Actually, the sideframes result in this being an S-4, since they are AAR switcher sideframes, yet that is not exactly right, either, as the hood louvres represent the pre-war kind found on early S-2's only (and the horizontal ones during some of the WWII era S-2's are presumably unavailable in S scale unless they were included with the Overland imports, as they did in O scale).

I agree with Bob that it would have been no trouble to configure the gear tower to fit inside the hood, leaving the cab interior free for detailing if the owner wished. I have more of a problem with the poor design of the tower itself, where the delrin gears are spaced so that there is too much lash in the chain; if I should find myself with unaccounted-for time I am considering replacing or at least relocating the heavy sheet brass vertical member in the tower to improve both that and to swap the drive end-for-end. Turning the motor and resoldering the leads would also permit a flywheel on the unencumbered shaft. On the other hand, unless one must actually have an Alco switcher (and not pay the premium for an Overland brass import), for what the Miller and drive are likely to go for, several S Helper EMD's have recently gone for very little more (and Don's sale back at the end of June not much more yet--which is why I succumbed and bought two I didn't particularly need), and their drive is state-of-the-art.
