Hi Ed --
My Alco FA’s have not had truck gearbox troubles, so far. The universal
shafts have disintegrated, however... Should the drive give me that much
more trouble, I will replace the components with American Models trucks
which seem to be indestructible.

I have heard via the infamous S grapevine that the brass ALCO FA gearboxes
suffer from the same condition as the brass RS-3 -- namely expanding
contaminated zamac and axle/gear binding. I was wondering if this rumor is
true and if anyone has experienced this problem? And, if so, is there an
easy fix?
