After contemplating what to do with the cheesy original FA u-joints, I ended up
going down the Hobbytown path and am very happy with the end results. The hard
part was tapping some holes for set screws to snug up against the flat on the
shaft. I drilled out the large hole to fit the shaft diameter and then
drilled/tapped two holes going sideways so that the flat could be held firmly
in place. The set screw 180 degrees away is to balance the weight of the set
screws. Works very well. As well as that one custom machined u-joint a friend
made that also works well, but would cost a lot more. I like the Hobbytown
u-joints because of the large beefy plastic/nylon cups which are quite strong.
No more wimpy u-joints on the mighty NYC. Shipped them off to the PRR.
