The discussion about full-body kits or flat panel kits is interesting. One way
or another Bud Rindfleisch and I hope to come up with a resin kit Milwaukee
Road box car. For now let the production of an SAL turtle-back box car
suffice. I certainly hope people on this list are sending their money in to
make this a possibility. If the SAL car is a go, then perhaps--and I have not
spoken with Jim King about this recently--we can also find enough people
enthusiastic enough to commit to the Milwaukee Road car.

The point about such cars is that they were unique, and no mass production
company--if that ever starts up again in China--is going to produce for S
scales either an SAL turtleback car or a Milwaukee Road horizontally-ribbed
car. No company could ever sell enough of them to make the tooling worth the
investment. Neither car could be alternately lettered for Minneapolis & St.
Louis, New York Central, or Rock Island or whatever other road one might wish
to name: The cars were absolutely unique respectively to the SAL and the
Milwaukee. Oh, yeah, I'm aware that a few Milwaukee ribbed cars did go to the
WP, but that was later in their life.

Let's give John Degnan our support.

Sure, 1-piece kits are faster and easier to assemble. However, recent events
have demonstrated that the S market is borderline at best for supporting the
level of investment necessary for them. Flat kits may be the only way to reduce
the "buy-in" to a level that S scale will support. Would you buy a flat kit
Gla? I doubt it will ever be done as a 1-piece.
