Dear Chris,
We split the NYC run to half passenger and freight paint schemes.
Being they used the same paint masks, the cost was minimal for the
extra plates (different numbers). From our research, the passenger
F3s were purchased as ABA sets to be used on the "New England States"
passenger train #27 & #28. The passenger units were all converted to
freight units at Collinwood Shops in 1959 (remove steam heating units,
adding counterweights, and changing gear rations to freight).
