Personally because my line is a non-existent one, the prototype is not 
really the issue. I'm not a rivet counter so having the wrong bell or 
smoke dome for my imaginary line is not an issue.

The issue is exactly the first thing you said. Why would I pay $1500 for 
a loco only to have to strip it and repaint it and change the lettering.

Adding lettering to a plain black or even unpainted model is not an issue.

I have an old PFM C-16 which will be sold used to my short line but it 
is unpainted. I can explain the C-16 being bought by my narrow gauge 
short line when the D&RGW sold it off.
