Your discussion about GN steam brings up a vivid memory. Years ago, say in the
Seventies, I walked into a hobby shop in St. Paul. I was still clinging to my
Lionel but was unsatisfied with its truncated proportions and its fetish for
scrawling "Lionel Lines" on so many pieces of equipment. Anyway, the hobby
shop was somewhere on Lexington Avenue but was not the one that's there now.
The proprietor had a beautiful brass model in O gauge of Great Northern O-8
Mikado.

I had seen those things storming hell bent for election through Wayzata
eastbound into Minneapolis, a beautiful sight. I was visiting a friend whose
mother was the head nurse at the small Wyzata Hospital. I recall that the
windows of the old hospital that faced Highway 12 and the GN tracks absolutely
rattled. I never saw any other GN steamer live but those O-8s hauling the
freight through Wayzata, Minnesota.

I understand your point of view Butch. I personally think that competition is
good for business. I don't think we are in danger of having too many vendors
at this point. I am not in the business so I can't comment on the number of
manufactures we can support. From my standpoint, the more players in the game
the more likely I will be to see GN steam actually produced. I already asked
Dan about it, but there just isn't a big enough market for GN steam. I suppose
I'm going to just have to buy whatever steam looks good to me and repaint or
re-letter it into my fantasy Ohio Northern scheme. So far the lack of even the
possibility of steam being produced in my railroad is the biggest negative
(not that big a deal in the grand scheme) I have experienced in S.

Regards,
Jonathan

Jonathan, I don't think you ruffled any feathers, certainly not mine. And I
think your opinions are important to express as that is how we all learn on
this forum. Never hold back on stating your feelings and opinions, as no one
else does. <VBG>

I've owned many Sunset O scale steam locos in the past and have an E7 ABB on
ordered with them now that will need to be sold. Another important reason I
hope they are well received. <VBG>

I'm just not sure there is room for two brass importers in S these days. I've
had very good luck with my RRM models over the years and know Dan is very
quality minded, so I don't want to see anything jeopardize his business.

I know that thinking may not be in vogue, but that's how I feel about it.

Butch
