Well that is completely different than a kit. Could be an interesting tie-in. Perhaps a 'basic kit' could be produced with minimal detailing (a la the old AM kits) and detail parts or patterns could be offered as a upcharge through the same or separate vendor. The modeler could choose to trick out his car at extra cost. This is similar to the Fast Tracks approach to turnsouts - sell the tooling for the modeler to make the parts.
I had an email conversation with Gerry Siegel when he announced his speeder project about making kits. It reinforced a previous conversation I had with Jim King that kits with parts is a commitment of time and resources. The simpler and fewer the castings and parts offered, the less the cost of the kit. Let's keep the ideas flowing...
