You mean serious modellers really don't do that?  Hmmm, maybe I should lighten 
up a bit, LOL;->

I do measure the height of rail that is still left on some of the areas that I 
model.  Here is what I found for those of you who are interested.  The rail in 
front of Palmerston station and Owen Sound station is 4.25" in height.  Code 70 
rail/track measures a little over that.  Code 83 is too high.  So, if you are 
doing a branch line on the CNR in that area of Southern Ontario, code 70 is the 
way to go.

This may apply to US roads as well.  I am not sure.

BTW, p64 wheelsets really look right on Tomalco's code 70 track.  And no I 
don't handlay any more.  I can do it but building turnouts using the Fasttracks 
method gives me enough pleasure in that area.  I do paint the ties though.  It 
really makes a difference in appearance.  That is just one of many things I 
picked up from the other members in the S Scale Workshop.
