I have also gone as far as measuring rail height.  The rail I need (IIRC) is 5" 
high and has a 5" foot.  Don't remember the width of the head. 



Micro Engineering's code 83 rail is actually code 82 if memory serves me right. 
So if you measured the ME rail to determine your calculations (below), you 
might be looking for somethingalong the lines of code 80.  That is nothing more 
than a wild guess, though.

I do measure the height of rail that is still left on some of the areas that I 
model. 



The rail in front of Palmerston station and Owen Sound station is 4.25" in 
height.  Code 70 rail/track measures a little over that.  Code 83 is too high.
