Hi all --
This has been amazing. I have tried to stay clear because this really has
no effect on my personal modeling, but I think it is important to let you
know that based upon NASG statistics, at least 70% of us that run trains of
the 3/16” per foot variety do it on high rails with big flanges. As a
business person, that would tell me a lot about how to market my product.
That Lionel is now offering scale wheels is a big change in their attitude,
yet it still represents sound marketing sense. Dave's last remark is the
only one that shows some view of reality.
Considering that ONLY the U33 has ACTUALLY hit the market and appears to be
quite a nice model, it seems a lot premature to start a big ruckus over
something that is still in the vapor stage. I am sure Lionel is paying
some attention and will do what it thinks is right for its bottom line.
In the meantime, go build something that makes your trains run.

Remember guys buying toy trains increase the chances of more useful things
being made in S scale. Buildings, vehicles, figures, and details of all kinds
are a benefit of more modelers in the scale no matter what radius curves
they run...
