I have another wild theory:
Haven't you said, that the package build one time? And then not. Is this
correct?
The only thing I changed was updating the mercurial files, and then
commiting. Therefore I had to write the commit messages, and I do this in
kate. kate's standard encoding is utf-8. ( My computer's language is
german, so everything is utf-8)
This (or just packing it, because the encoding on my machine is not
unicode) did change something to the encoding.
What happens if you untar the package use the iconv from up there, and
repack it on your machine?
