To whom is this being addressed? .... Dear Sir??? Many question marks over
my head!!! Anyway as far as I know, any posting made on this SaligaoNet is
read by ladies & gentlemen..
Anette's letter was that of a typical goan ......., the goan member got up
and said "But what if >the ship sinks".
Huh! Even if I thought that, I wouldnt bother to say it aloud as - if I've
really moved with the times in all respects - I wouldnt care if the ship
sunk/sank???.... you see I'm moving with the tide (the term ship was used
wasnt it?) /times or am I moving against it? And the tide/times are such
that nobody cares about the others, some of us are becoming quite callous
eh? We generalise...We move with the times in one way, but regress in the
other!
What or who is a typical Goan? No Goan is typical, each is unique. I have
yet to find out a typical Goan... after that, if I am one, then no problem
since I'm proud of inheriting the intelligence & traits. But... didnt get
this one about the pessimistic attitude of particular Goan in the story ...
is it the usual Sardaji type of jokes & stories that we all are familiar
with? Never mind! I dont need the answer, finding out things for myself &
using my grey matter/cells (as opposed to white), is one trait I inherited
anyway....
I have been using reliance phone for the last two and half years without
any complaints......
Good for you Albert, as I said before, you are blessed with luck. But from
the rumblings of some friends (once again, it is some rather than all or
most), they have switched back to their old phone system whatever it was....
I dont make postings unless I'm sure of my facts or have had relevant
experiences.
We have to be with times. ....
I agree with you there Albert, but am doubtful if we all are moving with the
times with the right attitude & thinking
People in the gulf have been using ATM for decades without their money been
robbed.
Exactly my point, I'm one of those people in the Gulf who has been using ATM
for decades. But times have changed & people are changing with them, hence
right here on our road, outside our bank, outside the ATM kiosk, people have
been robbed of the money that they withdrew using ATM ..which proves your
point & mine,Albert, that most people are changing with the times... more
savvy, more smart, smart enough not just to rob you of what you withdrew but
to go in after you & clear out your whole account, but their attitude
towards mugging, thieving, hasnt changed, moral values have changed for the
worse rather than the better..... so it depends how we change with the
times....
It looks as if the banks are very safe and you cannot be robbed in the
bank.
Statistics prove otherwise, you can be robbed in a bank or outside the bank
where the ATM kiosk is located, at least that is how it is here.
from the bank where everyone knows how much you are withdrawing. Many times
when you want to update the pass book the clerk shouts out your balance and
every one knows how much you have and when you do not bother to write the
bank slip yourself then you tell loudly the amount you want to withdraw and
then the amount figures on the counting machine where every one knows how
much the cashier has counted .
Oops! Really? Well then, all I can say is that some of the people in Goa
havent moved with the times since yours truly hasnt had this problem in the
bank here at all. Everything is as silent as a tombstone & I've withdrawn
(cash) to the tune of equivalent of Rs.2 lakhs (required to send to my son's
a/c in India of course) in the small branch of a Bank on our road (not the
main bank) quietly, without anybody being any the wiser.... then carried it
along with me in my bag to a finance co. on another road, handed over the
cash & got a telex transfer done... again quietly....From description above,
it doesnt seem as if Albert was carrying out transactions in a bank, ....
I've had cause to visit Saligao Bank, the banks in Mapusa & Panjim but didnt
hear the racket he writes about (perhaps my ears were plugged due to the
excessive air travelling I did the previous day). Must check out the
secnario next time I'm in Goa...Looks like some (people) in the banks there
havent moved with the times, but then we cant generalise that all are the
same can we?
And Albert has a point... but this was way back in the 60's, I recall some
in the bank calling out etc.
Time to put on one's thinking cap & let the thoughts flow freely & the
fingers fly nimbly (sorry couldnt get another word starting with "f" instead
of nimbly, to continue the alliteration ... I wait in happy anticipation
