For this kind of pieces to look good one really would need
alpha channel and more than 256 colours which would require
the use of another format than gif. Tried to render such
themes (the shadows are especially impossible) to a flat
format without alpha, it just does not work out at all. :(

(Though I admit I still prefer Merida in ivory with a thin
light border everywhere ;)
