I checked with SCID 4.5 and can confirm this. The trial mode is not there
anymore.

There used to be a shortcut for this. (Can't recall which - "a"?)  I'd have
to do tests.

I'm not sure I understand why you'd not want to have a trace of what you
are currently analyzing. If you want to delete it, all you'd need is to
right-click over it on the PGN window and choose delete. One more click for
the ability to keep a trace may be a good compromise.

I'm not sure I understand this. You'd like to always be able to delete the
current move and replace it with the move you're entering?
