Re: [AI] Excel query
Hello sir, I don’t want to apply filters. The sheet already contains cell highlighted in red, green, and orange colour. I need only those cells which are highlighted green, so how can I eliminate the other cells which are not used to me. I know the Keystroke insert plus F to check the font colour in a cell, but I was thinking of some other way, so I can directly eliminate the cel Rose which are not use to me. Re: [AI] Excel Query
vlookup has four arguments. 1. first argument you have to give which column you have to use for searching similar value in other database. 2. second argument is the row and column range of the destination data sheet in excel. 3. third argument is after finding the exact match, what related record you have to display from that match. for example, himanshu is the name you have found a match in another database. then you have to display himanshu's mark in a particular subject which may be in third position from your name. 4. give false. Re: [AI] Excel Query
Dear All, Many thanks for your valuable guidance. I've been able to perform series function now but my other query is still unresolved. I had asked: "How to instruct JAWS to read row and column heading while moving through all row and columns respectively in a sheet?" I meant to say that if I am browsing a sheet containing data in multiple rows and columns, what JAWS setting I need to activate so that while browsing through any cell in the sheet, it automatically reads column and row heading along with the value of the particular cell where the focus is? E.G., I've a sheet with the value "uncharged interest" in h column, and in row 55 the heading is "XYZ Pvt. Ltd." my cursor is in G55, and I moved to H55, it should announce the heading of that particular column and row , alongwith the cell value, like: H55 + "column heading "uncharged interest" +row heading "XYZ Pvt. Ltd." +cell value say, 3.1 Lac On 3/12/16, Mahesh Narasimhan wrote: > Hi friend, > > Just to share in continuation in what Nidhi has just shared. > > In a cell type 1 and select the cells by holding the shift key and > down or right arrow. Hi friend, Just to share in continuation in what Nidhi has just shared. In a cell type 1 and select the cells by holding the shift key and down or right arrow. Then press Alt + e i s and then a dialogue box would come and in that step value 1 would appear; if you want the common difference as 1, then press the enter key there itself. If you want the common difference as 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 just type the desired common difference in step value and press the enter key. If you have kept the common difference as 3, then the series that you would get as 1, 4, 7.. This is an arithmetic series with initial value as 1 and with common difference 3. If you wish, you can change the initial value as per your desire as well. Hope I could answer to your query. Enjoy learning! -- "Good friendship is like the relationship between eye & hand! For auto numbering, do * type 1 in that cell from which you want to have auto numbering begin. * move one cell down. * type the equal sign. * press up arrow. * type plus sign and 1 * press enter. * Copy the cell (press control + c) * paste the formula up to that range you want to have auto numbers be written automatically. Second method * decide the row number from which you want auto numbers begin. * type the formula in that cell. = row() minus the row number just above the cell in which the formula is being written. * copy the formula and paste up to that range of your desire. Do a "Paste special" instead of "paste" and select "value only". Re: [AI] Excel query, very urgent
Ensure that the cell coordinates in the formula pasted at the new location do not overlap. This error normally occurs when you paste the formula into a cell which is also included in the formula's calculation. In other words, if you are adding up A 6 to A10 and paste the formula into A10, you are likely to get this error. Geetha - Original Message - From: "Vamshi. Re: [AI] EXCEL QUERY
dear vikas when u write any formula u give reference of the cells. am i right, so there are three type of references in excel. 1. relative reference 2. absolute reference 3. mixed reference the reference which we use is relative reference. like if there is marks of english nd maths in column A and column B and in column C there is total of column A and Column B values. there is heading english in A1, maths in B1 and Total in C1. suppose there is data of 10 students. we write formula =sum(a2:b2) in c2 and press enter. total of a2 and b2 will appear in cell c2. so we copy the formula of c2 by pressing control plus C and press shift and down arrow and select upto c11 and press contro plus v and press enter. now if we navigate in c column. when our cursor reach on c2 it will say c2 has formula. press control plus F2 it will speak the foumula. it will say =sum(a2:b2). once press down arrow our cursor moves to c3. press here control plus F2, it will say =sum(a3:b3). vikas it is relative referencing. because the cell reference in the copied cells is automatically changed. we copied the formula one cell down so it also change the refence one cell down from a2:b2 to a3:b3 for c3 and a4:b4 for c4 and for other cells also. i think u know it already. now we will talk about absoulte referencing. give the heading as salary, increment, new salary, percent in A1, B1. C1 and D1. in A column employees salary is entered from a2 to a10. in D2 10 in entered, we assume that we want to know that how much will be the new salary if we increase there salary by 10 percent. when we enter the formula in b2 for calculating 10 percent of salary. we can do it in folowing ways. =a2*10/100 and press enter. it will calculate 10 percent of a2. copy this formula and paste it upto b10. it is relative referencing. we mentioned here 10, it is hard coded, but if we want to provide how much percent we want to calculate through cell reference we can do this as following: first try it: write =a2*d2/100 in b2 and press enter. copy it and paste it from b3 to b10. u see there is correct output in b2 but not in b3 to b10. because in b3 the formula chaged to =a3*d3/100. there is no value in d3 so the output is 0 from b3 to b10 cells. but if we want the correct output by using cell reference then we have to use absoulute referencing. write =a2*$d$2/100 in b2 and press enter. copy it and paste it from b2 to b10. now it will give u the correct result. Depending on the task you want to perform in Excel, you can use either relative cell references, which are references to cells relative to the position of the formula, or absolute references, which are cell references that always refer to cells in a specific location. If a dollar sign precedes the letter and/or number, such as $A$1, the column and/or row reference is absolute. Relative references automatically adjust when you copy them, and absolute references don't. so this is absoulte referencing. in mixed referencing if we preedes the letter with dollar and not precede the number with the dollar or we preceded the number with the dollar and not the letter then it is mixed referencing. like $a1 here a is fixed and a$1 here 1 is fixed. Re: [AI] EXCEL QUERY
Dear Vikas, If you want to copy a formula from a cell to a range of cells, do the following: 1. Be in the cell, whose formula you want to copy and press control + c. 2. To select the range of cells, where you want to copy, be in the north west corner and pressing shift and right arrow or down arrow, go to the south east corner and release the keys. 3. do control + v and your job is done. 4. please note that when you copy a formula, the input cells will change. For example, if you copy a1+b1 ,which you had defined in c1, when you copy from c2 to c10, the input cells will also change as a2+b2 and a10+b10. If you want a particular cell address not to change, put $ in the formula. For example, if you say $a1 and copy from b1 to n1, the cell address will not change, If you put a$1, then, when you copy from c2 to c10, the cell address will not change. If you put $a$1, the cell address will never change, where ever you copy. I hope this will help you. regards - Original Message - From: "Vikas Kapoor" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Sunday, July 09, 2006 12:30 AM Subject: Re: [AI] EXCEL QUERY > Thanks Sameer once again but this didn't solve the problem this time. Hi Vikas, The method explained will solve the problem in part only. E.g. if the number is 23.477, the format option will have it displayed as 23.48, but in all calculations it will be used as before. To round the number as 23.48 use the following method: Suppose the given number is in cell A1, and you want the rounded value in cell b1. Type the following in cell B1: =round(a1) and press enter. To round the marks of entire class displayed in cells a1 to a50, just copy the contents of cell B1 and paste in cells b2 to b50. Re: [AI] EXCEL QUERY
The Paste function will paste everything from the source cell to the destinationn cell including formulas and formats. Using the Paste Special function, you can choose only a certain characteristic from the source cell to the destination cell. For example, you can use the Paste Special command to paste only formats, or only formulas while retaining the original formatting of the destination cell. For the 60 students, select the entire range of cells where you want to paste and then do the Paste Special. As regards the Precision calculation, I will have to put on my thinking cap and do some investigation. Re: [AI] EXCEL QUERY
Thanks Sameer once again but this didn't solve the problem this time. By doing this, it is pasting only in the cell where I'm standing, it is not dragging for all 60 students. That simply means each time I have to repeat my action. If this be the case, then what is the difference between paste and paste special? Another thing that I would like to ask is that when I convert to 2 decibels, my result comes .1% less than the actual result. However, when in the option, in the calculation tab, I check the box, which says "precision as displayed", then the accurate result comes but before I press the ok button after clearing that box, it says, "all data will permanently lose accuracy!". What does that mean? In my case, instead of losing, it is giving me more precise accuracy, ha ha ha! Re: [AI] EXCEL QUERY
Try the following to copy and paste the same formula in multiple cells. 1. Place your focus on the cell from which you want to copy the formula and the number formats. 2. Press Ctrl+C to copy. 3. Select the cells in which you want to paste. 4. Go to Edit on the Menu Bar and arrow down to Paste Special. Press enter on the Paste Special option. 5. A dialog box will open containing a series of radio buttons. Arrow down through the radio buttons till you come to the button titled "Formulas and Number Formats". 6. Select the Formulas and Number Formats radio button and press OK. This should paste the formula and the number format of 2 decimal places in all the destination cells. Re: [AI] EXCEL QUERY
Thanks a lot, Ajay and Sameer for such a prompt response. My problem is now completely solved. One more thing please, if we have to copy the same formula for every student, we generally do by copy and paste command, while the sighted people would do just at a click of a mouse button for all the students, no matter hundreds of them, is there any way through jaws to drag the same way as it is done by mouse? Re: [AI] EXCEL QUERY
Try the following steps and see if they solve your problem. 1. In Excel, place your focus on the cell for which you want to restrict the result. 2. Press Ctrl+1 to open the Cell Format dialog. This same dialog can also be accessed from the Format menu. 3. Tab to the list box containing the various choices like General, Currency, time, date etc. Arrow down to Number and tab to the sub options. 4. You will find an Edit box where you can specify the number of decimal places. Set this to 2 and tab over to OK and press it. The result will now be restricted to 2 decimal places. You can do this for an entire row/ column by selecting the entire row/ column and repeating the above steps.
