Remedy v7.0.1 with MS SQL 2005

2007-08-13 Thread Satya Gandhi
Dear Listers,

We are planning for a upgrade and our current set up is running on Remedy
v6.00.03 with MS SQL 2000 to Remedy v7.0.1 with MS SQL 2005.

Has anyone done this earlier and is there any known issues that I would have
to take care of?

Was this a seamless integration? Are there are considerations to be taken
care of as a pre-requisite?

2007-08-13 Thread CONDREA, Daniel
Hi All,

In my opinion the migration process should be split in two parts:

- database upgrade
- ARS upgrade

Between database upgrade and ARS upgrade 2 weeks should be intercalated.

Daniel

CSV import tool

2007-08-13 Thread frank liang

What is the best CSV (Excel) importing tool for Remedy? When I tried to
import CSV (Excel) file using Remedy Importing tool, I always getting
error item that could not be imported into Remedy.

Is there any good tool so it can read CSV (Excel) file format well and
import into Remedy without problem?

Re: CSV import tool

2007-08-13 Thread Sachin Salvi
I think you should look at the error messages. AR Import fails on conditions
(business ruels) written on the concern form, which is expected per
validation.

You may try AR Utility (freeware) as an alternate.
It will too throw error for incorrect data.

HTH,
Sachin

Re: Authentication problem in Remedy LDAP for passwords with special characters.

2007-08-13 Thread Hugo Visser
Fred is right here, you are building a new URL you should escape the special
characters in the url. Anything else does not count as a valid url and might
work (on IIS for example) or might not work (on anything else :P)

URLEncoder would be the class you'd use for this in Java.

 Hello Listers,

We have recently started using the AREA LDAP plugin to authenticate
our remedy users with the LDAP server.
We are cross referencing blank passwords and are having problems
authenticating users whose password contain special characters (#,@,
etc).
We are able to authenticate these users against the LDAP server
using a different client (like LDAP Browser), so the problem could be
with
the Remedy plugin.
The LDAP server is basically the Novell eDirectory used within the
organization.
If anybody here has faced similar problems before or if I am missing
something obvious (server settings?), please let me know.'

The server environment is ARS 6.3 patch 21, Tomcat 2.0.51 running on
Oracle 9i database.

Thanks in advance,
Prasan.

Re: Java Memory Leak?

2007-08-13 Thread Hugo Visser
When looking at Java memory usage you should be aware that when you allow a
certain heap size, this doesn't mean all of the heap is actually used at
some point. A good behaving Java app will allocate up to the max heap, both
active object and dead objects that are about to be garbage collected.
Over time the garbage will be collected by the VM and the memory usage of
java.exe might drop. Or not. It really depends on your JVM and the settings
you are using.

So what I'm saying is, don't look at the java.exe memory usage, it's just an
indication of what is going on. If you really like to monitor the memory,
hook up a tool like jconsole so see how the allocated memory is used by the
VM. Typically Mid-Tier sucks all of the memory available up to a certain
amount, depending on your application. Some would call that leaking, others
would call that design :P

I'm a part of the team implementing Topology and Foundation Discovery with CMDB
2.0. We had extended the CDM of CMDB to suite requirements.

Now, TF Discovery comes with its own dataset, which to our bombshell is not
extendable. So, you need to get all the discovered CI's and its relations in a
dataset in CMDB and then recon it (with additional workflow) to push it in the
sandbox/golden dataset.

Lesson learnt – You need to check what TF can discover and only then you
should design CDM for CMDB.

Another thing to consider is whether you need an agent-based tool. If many of
the IT resources you plan to track will not be usually accessible by the
Discovery tool (remote laptops, PDAs, servers behind another firewall, etc.)
you will only be able to track those with a local agent on those boxen. It
does cost more, though, so consider the gain/pain from your company's

The BMC tools are the easiest to work with from the Remedy Admin/Developer
perspective, but they may not be what the rest of I.T. wants. If you already
own LANDesk, SMS, or something else you might want to consider integrating with
those instead, even though it would be more work. For example, BMC's discovery
tools give you reconciliation rules. If you have multiple other data sources,
it would become more time-consuming to build them there (although it isn't a
huge deal.)

In my company's case, the management decided we had enough tools with an
overlap, so we didn't purchase them.

Multiple ARDBC LDAP servers?

2007-08-13 Thread Barber, Dave
We're using LDAP for pulling through user lists (rather than
authentication, we're not yet going down that route).

Is there any way to configure multiple ARDBC LDAP servers? We've got
two distinct companies in our offices, and need to be able to pull user
lists from both. As I see it, the standard ARDBC LDAP configuration
only allows one server?

Is it possible to use the AREA LDAP to just pull user names through, or
is this purely for SSO authentication?

Re: Exporting and Importing with the help of Remedy Java API 6.3 in ARX

2007-08-13 Thread Steynberg, Calman
Tristan,

The API does not provide the functionality needed to export or import
data to or from any format. This is true for both the C and Java API.

You will have to write your own parsers to parse the files and then
create entries from that data.

Calman

I recently went through a database upgrade myself, 6.3 9i to 10g but on
a linux server. I asked for advice here and was told 6.3 requires the
9i libraries to connect to a 10g database, a 32 bit oracle 9i database
client and cursor_sharing must be set to FORCE.

Following this advice we had no problems with the upgrade.

I don't know about the OS/64-bit question however.

Hi Himanshu,

We are on ARS 6.3, Sun OS 5.9, Mid-Tier 6.3 Web Logic 8.1, Java 1.4.2.
Have you any idea, they are on which Operating System. Actually OS also
matters in this case. Another thing 10g support 64 bits. Does Remedy
create any problem with 64 bits?

Is there any way to configure multiple ARDBC LDAP servers? We've got

Is it possible to use the AREA LDAP to just pull user names through, or

we're in separate branches. In theory, we could get access from the

UNSUBSCRIBE or

how do the f...... email attachments work ?

2007-08-13 Thread Serouche Rahimpour

dear listers,

please forgive my misspelling if you feel offended ... it was due to
lots of useless work which led to a frustrating loose of time ...

My problem:
1- users send emails with attachments to
the the AREmail
2- all emails are formatted with shell scripts in order to add the
appropriate template to the incoming email
3- all emails go into the Email messages form with a specific templates
added into the body
4- following the information given by the template (server, form, user,
...) the ARSystem creates an entry into the correct schema/form
5- only attachments are skipped, because incoming emails do not separate
them from the email. The attachments are inline.
6- so I wrote a filter which takes the Uniques Identifier (UI) found in
the Email Messages form and added it to the entry which gets created as
described at point 4- above. This filter uses a set field process to set
my field with a value = (LEFTC,23), because I noticed that on the 30
char used by this string only the 23 firsts one remain the same from one
form to another (Email Messages, Email Attachments and my form).
7- I wrote another filter which takes the UI and checks the Email
Attachments form with this UI. The filter uses a LIKE to check the
MyForm.UI with Email Attachments.UI.
8- upon this check I set the value of Attachment in my form to
EmailAttachment found in the Email Attachments. I also tried with
Attachment name and Attachment Pool. None of these work.
9- but apparently at least my checks work because if I don't use the
emails but instead I go on the web and I try to submit a ticket with
attachment the ticket is created without the attachment. So my guess is
that the checks work fine but I don't take the correct value or field.

Any help ?

Thank you.

Serouche

Oh, OK...I was just wondering about your thoughts about the escalation.
I would think you could just go to the vendor form itself directly and
make the change.

Currently just two - whilst both are on the same network (well, forest),
we're in separate branches. In theory, we could get access from the
root, but due to security, the root password is not available.

I was just considering something along those lines - setup an escalation
to run overnight to do that, all I've got to do is ask the guys on the
other side if they can setup a profile with the same credentials.

If both servers use the same username/password to authenticate, you can
manually change the IP address or server name of the target server in
the LDAP URL on the vendor form.

Subject: Multiple ARDBC LDAP servers?

**
We're using LDAP for pulling through user lists (rather than
authentication, we're not yet going down that route).

Is there any way to configure multiple ARDBC LDAP servers? We've got
two distinct companies in our offices, and need to be able to pull user
lists from both. As I see it, the standard ARDBC LDAP configuration
only allows one server?

Is it possible to use the AREA LDAP to just pull user names through, or
is this purely for SSO authentication?

Dave Barber

AW: ARERR 121 Error with an entry in the Entry ID List

2007-08-13 Thread Scharf Oliver
Hi everybody,

has a solution for this issue ever been found?

The problem also occurs on ARS version 7.0.01 patch 3. I analyzed it as follows.

Having four regular forms with data in a join key field:

Key ValueForm A Form B Form C Form D
1 1 1
2 22 2
3 3333
4 444
5 55

meaning that e. g. in Form B there are three data rows with key values '2',
'3' and '4'.

Then have join forms on the key value:
Inner Join Form A x Form B - Form AxB
Inner Join Form AxB x Form C - Form AxBxC
Outer Join Form AxBxC x Form D - Form AxBxCxD

Then you get the ARERR 121 error when clicking on all entries except on row '3'
in the results list of Form AxBxCxD. When Form AxB and Form AxBxC are
outer joins then the ARERR 121 error only appears on selecting the entries '4'
or '5'.

It is comprehensible that some data is missing when retrieving these entries.
But why is that error raised instead of just leaving the data fields empty?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks, best regards
Oliver Scharf

Betreff: ARERR 121 Error with an entry in the Entry ID List

Hi all,

I was creating a join form on my RAM application and received the
following error message when I tried to query the form:

ARERR [121] Error with an entry in the Entry ID list :
AST:AST-ContractRel-MainJoin

The results list is populated, but the form is not. Has anyone
received this error message before? What would be the solution?

The AR Error Message document says:
121 Entry error in the Request ID list.
During processing of a list of request IDs, one or more of the values
was invalid. An
associated message describes the problem. This error connects the
associated error to
the ID list instead of to another parameter in the call.

This is not really helpful to me... what to do??

Regards,

Michiel

Re: AR System 7.1.00 delayed until end of August / early September

2007-08-13 Thread Papolu, Appajee
In this release, the existing C plug-ins will be delivered as were before.
Remember we do still deliver native C based Plug-in server also note that the
new Java based plug-in server supports running C plug-ins too.

There is a newly implemented web service plug-in built in Java as well. Yes, it
will be part of the 7.1 deliverables. Hopefully you'll find this plug-in more
usable than the previous version offering.

Another side note though, we did not (get a chance to) implement all of our
previously delivered C plug-ins (like server admin console's backing plug-in
for example) as Java plug-ins. As Java based plug-in server is able to host
even the existing or newly developed C plug-ins, we believe this is not a big
problem.

Regards

Appajee

The C based web service plugins leak memory like a sieve...

ARS 6.3 Patch 21
Email Engine Patch 21
Solaris OS
incoming IMAP4

All,
This is a strange one since I am not all that versed in the various email
settings.
Our system currently receives incoming emails. We have noticed that
digitally encrypted email messages all come in as an attachments. The email
body id set in the attachment so the Body of the incoming email is blank
when the Remedy Email Engine processes it. The emails are in S/MIME formats.
I am told that if the email client can't display the digitally encrypted
message, then it creates an attachment of: smime.p7m. Is their a setting in
the Email Engine so the body can be displayed and not only saved in the
smime.p7m file?

Thanks,

Jackson

Michael,

Asking the obvious here but have the relogged in after you gave them sub
admin rights?

If so, try refreshing the user and group cache using the arsignal command
from the AR System bin directory and then ask those sub admins to relogin.

Re: Multiple ARDBC LDAP servers?

2007-08-13 Thread Doug Blair
Dave,

There is a white paper in the knowledge base that describes how to do this.
You basically run a 2nd instance of arplugin with a second ldap plugin as
the only thing in a second ar.conf file. Your primary ar.conf file uses an
alias to map the second arplugin ldap-ardbc to a different name. If you use
this for authentication then both ldap sources must use the same account
name and password to look for valid user accounts, but it does work.

After you have two different named sources for your two ldap servers, you
can make two different vendor forms to point to them, and run escalations
to copy date into regular forms

We're using LDAP for pulling through user lists (rather than
authentication, we're not yet going down that route).

Is there any way to configure multiple ARDBC LDAP servers? We've got
two distinct companies in our offices, and need to be able to pull user
lists from both. As I see it, the standard ARDBC LDAP configuration
only allows one server?

Is it possible to use the AREA LDAP to just pull user names through, or
is this purely for SSO authentication?

Re: AR System Developer Studio

2007-08-13 Thread Easter, David
Hi Warren;

The existing Remedy Developer Plus product will continue to work
properly with each version of AR System released. The 6.0 version of
RDP (patched to 6.3) works and is supported with AR System 7.0.01 and
BMC will ensure it will work with AR System 7.1.00 as well.

No enhancements are expected for RDP beyond the business basics of
ensuring that existing functionality continues to work with the latest
releases of AR System.

Re: Authentication problem in Remedy LDAP for passwords with special characters. -- RESOLVED.

2007-08-13 Thread Prasan Katti
Thank you all for pointing me in the right direction, it all seems very
trivial now.
The special characters were breaking the URL since the parameters to the
ViewFormServlet were not being encoded (the servlet expects encoded data).
The ARServerUser API of course does not accept the encoded parameters, so we
ended up passing plain data to the API and encoded data to the
ViewFormServlet.
Also, thank you Axton for suggesting that I use the forward instead of
re-direct, I have modified the code per your suggestion.

Thanks again.
Prasan.

** Fred is right here, you are building a new URL you should escape the
special characters in the url. Anything else does not count as a valid url
and might work (on IIS for example) or might not work (on anything else :P)

URLEncoder would be the class you'd use for this in Java.

  Hello Listers,

We have recently started using the AREA LDAP plugin to
authenticate our remedy users with the LDAP server.
If anybody here has faced similar problems before or if I am
missing something obvious (server settings?), please let me know.'

The server environment is ARS 6.3 patch 21, Tomcat 2.0.51 running
 on Oracle 9i database.

 Thanks in advance,
 Prasan.

  Michael,

Asking the obvious here but have the relogged in after you gave them sub
admin rights?

If so, try refreshing the user and group cache using the arsignal command
from the AR System bin directory and then ask those sub admins to relogin.

  Cheers

The ARS 7 documentation says that subadministrators can delete records.
I have given the appropriate groups Subadministrator permissions to the form
and I still can't get the Delete function to work. Any ideas?

thanks,

Refreshed user and group caches using arsignal, still no Delete functionality.

For my own verification, I'm expecting the Delete action to be
available from the toolbar - or being able to use Ctrl-D to delete. Neither of
these work.

Maybe I was unclear:

1. The user must have a fixed licence.
2. They must belong to group Sub Administrator in the User Form
3. They must belong to that group which is defined on page 'Subadministrative
Permissions' in Admin Tool.

When the log in to admin tool, they will be able to see those forms, for which
they are subadmins, no other forms will be shown.

Re: Subadministration / Deleting records

2007-08-13 Thread Joe D'Souza
Yes you have to create a specific sub administrator group for that form or
for that application say SubAdmin-App001 that this form is a part of, and
have this group added on the form as a sub administrator group. The user
then has to be a part of both this group SubAdmin-App001 as well as the
group Sub-Administrator.

With the new java api/plugin server, does the roadmap include ongoing
support for both c and java plugins?

the new Java based plug-in server supports running C plug-ins too.

There is a newly implemented web service plug-in built in Java as well. Yes,
it will be part of the 7.1 deliverables. Hopefully you'll find this plug-in
more usable than the previous version offering.

Another side note though, we did not (get a chance to) implement all of our
previously delivered C plug-ins (like server admin console's backing plug-in
for example) as Java plug-ins. As Java based plug-in server is able to host
even the existing or newly developed C plug-ins, we believe this is not a
 big problem.

Re: AR System 7.1.00 delayed until end of August / early September

2007-08-13 Thread Papolu, Appajee
Axton,

While I cannot give you a pretty concrete statement about this, the
general thinking is as follows:

Yes, plug-ins can be developed using the first class SDKs - C or Java.
Thus the plug-ins existing or newly developed with either language will
be supported. While the above holds true for the plug-ins themselves,
the plug-in server itself may be a different story though. Once we
attain equal or better functionality/stability/performance goals, the
plug-in server implementations in C and Java would simply be redundant
-- thus I see the possibility of consolidating into only one plug-in
server deliverable in future release(s). I am already seeing follow up
questions on this comment, so here go few answers:
1. Did you not attain these goals yet?
A. For most part yes, but not 100%. For example, we know that on Solaris
- hosting C plug-ins in Java plug-in server, we ran into some stability
issues especially if some other Java plug-in uses AR System native
libraries (like Java API or CMDB API). In such environment, we encourage
users to do side by side deployment of C plug-in server to host C
plug-ins and Java plug-in server to host only Java plug-ins ( disable
hosting any C plug-ins in it). Eventually we're hopeful that we'll
resolve such limitations.

2. Any other issues?
A. We would like to see the transition rate/ease for users from C
Plug-in Server into the new Java plug-in server. Or, at least
side-by-side deployment of both of them. Hopefully in 7.1 release we
accomplish this smoothly.

3. Which plug-in server would stay (OR) which one will go?
A. We implemented an all new implementation ground up now. So draw your
conclusions. Any way, the eventual decision will greatly be helped by
the readiness of users, rate of deployments of Java plug-in server and
of course the elimination of rough edges in the Java plug-in server in
all supported platforms.

Your questions/comments/concerns/suggestions are welcome.

Regards
Appajee

PS: Comments about future features/roadmap are just indicative of what
our current thinking is; by no means it is set in stone and is pretty
much subject to change depending on various factors.

Another side note -- in future, I see the possibility of filter API
plug-ins may indeed have SDK/mechanisms, so that they can indeed be
created using other (Java hosting friendly languages) such as JRuby,
Rhino/JavaScript, Jython and so on. As Filter API is the way to
integrate 'scripted/custom logic' into AR app workflow, I believe
opening it up for other languages is pretty powerful. (Lacking this,
users with such needs will either give up or resort to cooking up their
own plumbing code themselves.)
