Download patch 9003 for ITSM 7 - this is the BMC Import Tool - install it, and then locate the EXCEL file which contains all the 'necessary configuration data'. Hi Susan Thanks so much for this info. What database are you running on and on what platform? Mel On 3/26/08, Susan Palmer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: ** Mel, I have found that for 'us' keeping less than 100k Help Tickets or Tasks in those forms keeps performance at an acceptable level. You have to remember that all workflow is affected by the number of records in the form and keep in mind any table fields that are refreshed. We generally keep 13 months of or closed records. Since we upgraded to v7.0.1P3 last year I was excited about the 'archive' option. In the last month I've used it on HTs, Tasks and email messages. For us it appears to require a huge amount of disk space for the copy/delete option. That needs to be planned for and it was greater than 1 for 1 which is logical since another table is now holding the same record. For us it was quite a bit more than that infact we nearly brought the server down. I only archive in the lowest of production hours (night) when minimal users are on the system. I was also notified yesterday that it is not recommended to archive system email messages, there is some unusal result related to it. Sorry did not get more info. I found the actual archiving to go fairly quick, was doing about 70k records both times. I liked the fact I didn't have to manually delete the records afterwards. hth, Susan ShopperTrak On Wed, Mar 26, 2008 at 8:28 AM, Melanie Snayer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: ** Hi Joe Thanks so much for this information. Hi Kalyani, You would probably need an SMS gateway (usually from your telecom provider) to send SMSs. This gateway will have an interface in the form of a web service / API call / Database record. Depending on the gateway, you could right workflow in Remedy to either make an API call, run a script, execute SQL etc. The parameters passed would be the message with ticket details and a mobile number. Re: BMC Remedy - Copy to Archive and Delete from Source
Hey Chintan Thanks for this info. As for your question, I have not come across any documentation with information regarding max number of records in a table and I doubt one would be released. The number of records that can be stored in a form would depend on many different elements such as: - Number of and types of fields in the form - Number of forms in the database - Database size - Disk space - etc. Regards Mel On 3/26/08, Chintan Shah [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: ** Mel, Last weekend we archived 120,000 records in less than 3 hours. We have 2 servers(production and reporting). Data gets DSO'ed from production to reporting all the time. So, we actually performed archivingon reporting server. We only used Copy to Archive functionality. There was no performance impact whatsoever during the entire proecess. I have not tested copy to archive and delete from source functionality. Our approach was like this 1. Take backup of all records you want to delete( in .arx file). 2. Have DBA take backup in a .dmp file. 3. Start Copy to Archive on the form you want to archive. Verify that we have same number of records(based on criteria u specify) on archived form as we have on source form. Now, the BIG part. We experience memory issues while deleting data using escalation. One of our consultants proposed an excellent solution for deleting data. 1. Export only ID's of the records that you want to delete in .arx file. Use same criteria as you used for archiving. 2. Use a filter that fires on Merge and that performs an Application-Delete-Entry operation. This approach is as good as deleting 1 record at a time and has NO impact on server whatsoever. So, as soon as you start importing the data through Remedy Import Tool, filter will fire and it will delete the record from production. As we have DSO in place, it will eventually delete from other server too. If you don't have separate reporting server, then you are pretty much done with process. It took almost 12:30 hours to delete all records with no user impact. By the way, I have a question. Is there any documentation available saying that This is the max limit that Remedy can handle for good performance. Some of our forms have more than million records. Thanks for help in advance. Hope this helps. Thanks Chintan. *Joseph Kasell [EMAIL PROTECTED]* wrote: Mel, We're running 7.0.1 with ITSM 6. Poor server performance
Hey everyone- Last night I came in at 11 PM when there should be little if any load on our server to make a form change. I was removing a table field from a view and then adding it back (a column was deleted from the view but was on others and that's the best way I know of to get it back). The form is CHG:Infrastructure Change, and it has been customized a little and there is an additional view from the OOTB version. I made my changes and tried to save but the server became unresponsive and after 20 minutes I restarted it. Of course, the phones started ringing as the crazy people logged into Remedy at 11pm started timing out. The changes I made did not get saved. My next step was going to be do it as a definition file save from the dev server, but we decided against it because we did not have a scheduled outage and didn't want to risk the server going down again. Can anyone point me in the right direction or have any suggestions as to why we can't make changes on our server? I tried the same thing Saturday afternoon with the same results, but it was over a VPN so I was hoping being here would make it better. Ver 7.0.1 fully patched, SQL 2005, Windows Server. User Tool can't see the server..???
I think I have our test 7.1 system installed but keep getting two errors. When I install the asset manager, I get a message about an error loading extensions. I run the extension loader which seems to run successfully but when I rerun the asset manager the error is still there. It doesn't give either an error number or any other useful information. Any suggestions? The second error is a bit more puzzling. I can go into the admin tool and see the server, forms, etc. with no problem. However, when I go into the user tool and want server information it shows an error that seems to indicate it can't find the server. One more thingI've gotten the trial licenses to test wth, but am not sure what information goes where..for example, is the key field the HOST ID or the LICENSE field in the trial license email. I've tried a lot of combinations but really don't know if it's working or not - we get an error for the ARServer license but it still seems to register it. Thanks for any directions that anyone can point me in to resolve these issues!! Re: Need help on sending SMS
This might not be an ideal solution, but almost all cell providers have an email address for the cell. i.e. number@vtext.com is for verizon wireless customers. As a quick and ugly fix you might just create a simple notification to send to their mobile's email interface. I wouldn't recommend this for a long term solution or for major usuage. But it could work if you have one or two individuals that want it, or as a quick fix in place for a better solution. Re: Mid-Tier 7.1p2 HTTP Error 400
From what I have seen with the new Mid Tier 7.1 (vs Mid Tier 7.01 or earlier versions) is that now when you are redirected to the login.jsp page it now will include the path that the login page will take you. Example is below: http://WebServer/arsys/shared/login.jsp?/arsys/forms/AppServer/Home+Page/ (example if you have ITSM 7.02 installed). It may be giving you the error because it expects you to provide a ? and the path with /arsys/forms/ and the application server and form that you want to open. In the past versions of Mid Tier, when a user would be redirected to the login.jsp page many of our users would bookmark the login.jsp page and when they accessed that bookmark then would log in and the Mid Tier couldnt take them anywhere so they would either relogin and call me in frustration or would click on a link then that would then take them to their Home Page. This new method now used can prevent this from happening with users going forward. How to change host for SOAP set-field action?
Hello everyone: I have a rather large collection of filters that call various SOAP webservices as set fields actions. In our dev environment, the SOAP services run on, say: devmachine.domain.com In our test environment, they're on testmachine.domain.com In our production environment, prodmachine.domain.com When the time comes to move our filters from one environment to another, we have a problem. If we use migrator, or if we just use import/export, the problem is the same: the filters still try to call webservices on the same host once they are ported into the new environment. The only solution appears to be to open each filter individually, reload a WSDL which specifies the new hostname, and remap each of the inputs and outputs. This process is time consuming, and highly prone to error. Does anyone know a method to make this change en masse? I had thought to try to export all of the filters with SOAP calls, then search/replace the hostname string. THIS WILL NOT WORK. thanks in advance everyone, -Andrew ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor: www.rmsportal.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are

Re: How to change host for SOAP set-field action?
This does actually work if you export to XML instead of DEF format, that's how we do it, the alternative that I'm planning on implementing here is to have a copy of each filter that fires on each environment, so if you have 1 filter, and 3 env's, you would have 3 filters, each with a run-if statement something like $SERVER$ = 'env1.longname', that way each filter would exist on all environments, but only the one for that environment would fire, and you wouldn't need to export/import when you get to your new server to get a filter functioning. -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Andrew Hicox Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 10:20 AM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: How to change host for SOAP set-field action? Re: Mid-Tier 7.1p2 HTTP Error 400
Mid-tier is 32-bit ONLY, so it will need the 32-bit tomcat and connector. I ran into this when testing with 64-bit IIS and ServletExec, which also wants to run 64-bit on Win2K3 x64. I had to manually replace the 64-bit connector with the 32-bit version in order for mid-tier to use it, per the BMC documentation. I have since eliminated that by using tomcat only for both app server and web server. I'm not sure why you don't just use the tomcat web server and skip apache to eliminate the connector, which just degrades performance - the same way it does if you are on Windows and use IIS. Mysterious gap in log files.
I am trying to tighten up the time it takes to create a new Incident in IM 7.03 (ARS 7.01, Solaris, remote oracle DB). I've checked the threads/queues quite thoroughly and they appears to be fine - there's plenty of available time queue time. However, in the filter log there are multiple places where this happens: Tue Apr 01 2008 11:08:03.6332 */ End of filter processing (phase 1) -- Operation - CREATE on SYS:Action - NULL Tue Apr 01 2008 11:08:06.6404 */ End of filter processing (phase 2) -- Operation - CREATE on SLM:Measurement - 095 Notice the three second gap between those two - there is NOTHING else going on anywhere else in the SQL or API logs to indicate some processing - it's just three seconds of the nothing in all of the logs. Every time there's a end of filter processing' phase message we just stop for 3 seconds. In my 39-second Incident creation time there are a total of 10 of these gaps - 30 seconds where absolutely nothing appears to be happening. Keep in mind this is a large solaris server and I'm the only one on it - there's no lack of server resources. We've got plenty of hamsters/wheels/etc to power this thing. Re: How to change host for SOAP set-field action?
We do it with the multiple filter method here as well ($SERVER$ like d%) ($SERVER$ like t%) ($SERVER$ like p%) In order to create the filters in the beginning we did the export to normal def file and search/replace the SOAP URL Fred -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of LJ Longwing Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 11:29 AM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: How to change host for SOAP set-field action?

Re: Mid-Tier 7.1p2 HTTP Error 400
Mid-tier 7.1.00.001 and .002 both install tomcat incorrectly on Win2K3 x64 systems - in the \Program Files\ path rather than the correct \Program Files (x86)\ path for 32-bit apps, and it is a known defect so you can't assume that it will install it correctly on your OS, either. For other reasons related to patch 002, support finally had me install the tomcat server manually, from a newer distribution - 5.5.26 rather than 5.5.17 - which also solved my SSL certificate problems. Re: Mid-Tier 7.1p2 HTTP Error 400
Actually I was talking about Mid-Tier into Tomcat, not where Tomcat was installed. I usually check the following http://webserverTo see if Apache is listening (You probably get the Welcome to Apache page) http://webserver:8080To see if Tomcat is listening (You probably get the Welcome to Tomcat page) If either of those do not work then you have to correct that problem first. I then try the Mid-Tier config page from Tomcat http://webserver:8080/arsys/shared/config/config.jsp If that works I check it from Apache http://webserver/arsys/shared/config/config.jsp If the Mid-Tier config page works under Tomcat but not under Apache then there is some problem with the connector It is not configured in the Apache server.xml or possibly not installed You can also check the Tomcat startup logs (in tomcat/logs) the catalina.out to see if it started the arsys properties Fred From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Masha Bench Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 11:55 AM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Mid-Tier 7.1p2 HTTP Error 400 I let Remedy install Tomcat where it wanted it, so I assume it is correct. Yep, I had just reinstalled the Tomcat (64 bit) manually, got that working properly without arsys deployed, and then installed Mid-Tier. It turned out to be a slew of problems... 32bit Remedy-Tomcat install and on my side I was running out of space on /usr... After manual reinstall of the correct Tomcat, it is working like it should. Re: Poor server performance
Hi Chris Hmmm - that's strange. I didn't know you could have a table field column in one view and not another. I thought all table field columns were included in every view that the table field is in. The only thing you could do was to hide or unhide it in different views or change the column order. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I have seen cases where table fields have 'ghost' columns left that do not point to any field on the current form or source form. The columns are there in the table, but if you look at the table properties they are not there. The only way I have been able to correct this issue is to manually edit the def file and import with the option to delete excess fields from destination server set. If you are sure that your dev server contains an accurate current def, I would export that to a def file and import to production with the delete excess fields option set. outside normal hours of course. The good news is that table fields are display only fields on your form so should not require a table rebuild in the database. Re: Migrations
Dave, From a technical standpoint, the initial Remedy installation is harder, because the BMC developers aren't as familiar with *nix as they are with Windows-based operating systems. There may be bugs in the installation code which don't exist in Windows. That said, the *nix versions use scripts in a lot of places, and you can troubleshoot most of the issues you will encounter on your own where you wouldn't be able to do so with a compiled executable in Windows. As far as the database goes, it really depends on which database you or your DBA are most comfortable with. MSSQL is easy to install and easy to script. Kathy, The setting to show a form in the application list is done of the form that you want to show up, not the Home Page itself. Open the form and select Form Properties from the Form menu. Re: Control Panel Home Page
Hi Kathy A couple of extra points for the AL Guide method: 1) If there's only one active link, you don't actually need to include it in the guide - just specify it as the Starting Active Link. 2) The text in the AL Guide Label field is what shows up as the link on your home page Regards. Set the Display Order field to control its position in your application list. Go to the default view of the form, Current View. Properties and the Aliases and Labels tab to set the text of the entry point to be used in the application list. This link will open your form in the default view. The other method which is useful if you want to open a form in a view other than the default view is to use an Active Link Guide. Create an active link to open the form in the mode and view you want using the Window Open action. Create an Active Link Guide and add this active link to the Guide. Check the Entry Point checkbox on the AL Guide and set the Display Order and Starting Active Link. After making either of these changes, close and re-open your home page to view the new links. Re: RKM 7.2 - Anyone integrated it with ITSM?
Alty, RKM 7.2 is very robust and surprisingly easy to install. It is fully ITSM integrated, and the integration process is exactly like the 6 and 7 versions. If you've ever installed RKM before, you'll have no problems. I had one issue with the war file because we have a lot of entries in our company menu, and it confused RKM to deal with so many operating companies. Re: Poor server performance
Thanks Dave- Apparently what happened is on the table/tree property tab someone 2x clicked a column name which removed it from the table. It seems to have only happened on some views, because it was still there on the default user view. When I removed the table from the view where it was missing the column and added it back, the column came back with it. I just don't understand why the server would die when trying to save the form. Hopefully doing it as a .def file will go more smoothly. If you are sure that your dev server contains an accurate current def, I would export that to a def file and import to production with the delete excess fields option set... outside normal hours of course. Is the JVM actually looking for libarjni63.so when it posts this error or is it some other file and is the java.library.path the CLASSPATH? Re: UnsatisfiedLinkError:no arjni63 in java.library.path.
It is looking for that shared object, plus everything that shared object links to. You can use ldd (list dynamic dependencies) against any library or executable to see what resolves and what doesn't. Any time java requires native libraries, a design called JNI (java native interface) is used. JNI allows java to load native libraries (your dll/so/a files) so that execution is performed using the native libraries instead of java class files. The method 'System.LoadLibrary' is used to load the native libraries. This method can be called from any class; the name of the class does not necessarily have to match that of the native library. You can tell java how to find the native libraries by using either the LD_LIBRARY_PATH (UNIX) or PATH (win32) or as a value passed to java via the java.library.path parameter. This (albeit a sloppyg/lazy method) is why dropping these dll's into the system32 directory addresses java finding the native libraries. See http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jni/html/design.html for add'l info on JNI. Re: Found out little problem was very big one!
The 7.1 api is almost native. I believe if you are connecting to 7.0.1 or later server, that you can force the use of native methods, thus eliminating the requirement for the native libraries. Other alternatives include: - web services - odbc (pl/sql, tsql, etc) - i know there are others, but I'm drawing a blank Axton Grams On Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 7:43 PM, Nicoll, Alan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: ** Forget my request about the arjni63 library; I found the problem. Re: FW: Remedy JAVA api question
Try using a 32-bit jvm. I am not positive on this, but loading 32-bit native libraries using a 64-bit jvm may be the source of your invalid magic number error. I believe the compatiblity matrix for mid-tier, fb, email, etc. all state that you must use a 32-bit jvm, I assume for this reason. http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/aix/j564/sdkguide.aix64.html Axton Grams On Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 4:01 PM, Matthew Kunkel [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: ** It's a 64 bit binary. Re: Configuring JSpell with Mid-Tier 7.0.1 Patch 6
All, I finally got this fixed. I am on ARS and MT 7.1 As per the documentation, the function is called spellcheck() but I scanned thru the jspell.js file and was unable to locate that function. It seems that in the future versions OR in the non-IIS versions of the Java HTML, the function is called jspellcheck(). Another thing which i noticed was that, JSpell worked fine for records which had been saved. It also works fine for records which have been modified and not yet saved. But for some reason, once you save the record, the text field reverts back to the incorrect text field. e.g. I have text field called Description and has the text I like. I modify that recrod [and not Save] and change the text to I like wrld and hit my custom spellcheck button. JSpell is invoked and it corrects the word wrld to world in the text area. However, once I save that record, I like wrld is written to the database. Has any one of you faced this issues [if its even an issues] ?
