How to install other local during AR upgrade

2013-09-18 Thread Ajay Bandil
Hi,

Currently AR is support only 6 locals in my environment. I am upgrading the AR
from 7604 SP2 to SP4 and selected the Unicode option in the installer. But
installer is showing only 6 locals, which are already supported. It is not
showing other local to install. How can i get other local install for AR.

Re: Web Service Get Operations behavior...

2013-09-18 Thread Terry Bootsma
Joe:

I have seen this in the past as well.

In order to get around this, I designed the web service a little differently.
It may work for you as well, in your situation, but it depends upon the amount
of information you are querying and how you want results returned.

Rather than publish a Get service, I published a submit service.

The concept is that an interface will 'submit' a query request to a custom
form, specifying the query criteria in a single field or a series of fields.
Through workflow, i search the target form (or series of forms) to produce the
answer in a field (or series of fields). This approach gives me the following:

- the ability to ensure that query criteria is specified properly. If not, I
can specify the error response in a formatted manner.
- no need for complex join forms for the source of the get operation. This is a
major benefit!
- all queries and their response are logged in my form.

The detriment to this design is what happens when you expect multiple rows
returned, and how do you want to format the results.

Hope this approach might work for you in this situation.

If you cant, ask your network team to fix it for you. When ie is launched
from the user that is used to start ars service, you should be able to load
the url.

We get this problem in a lot of places.

Re: ARSystem 8.1, install patch 1 with disabled email engine fails

2013-09-18 Thread Walunjkar, Parshuram
I think here is the problem as you have installed Email engine service manually
by using bat file. There might be chances that Email engine Service name
generated different than which installer create.
While email engine upgrading 8.1 , installer search email engine service name
for specific format and it did not found the service.

It seems odd that the forms and related objects would not be imported just
because the Email Engine isn't running? I didn't think the Email Engine was
use for much more that processing incoming and outgoing mail.

We routinely install/upgrade/patch with the Email Engine service disabled. We
get a message stating the email engine wasn't enable or something like that at
the end but never a failure. I had one issue a year go upgrade AR 7.5 to AR
7.6.04 where the email service would get removed and not recreated. I just
added the service back after the install using the batch file.

installer can restart it and import upgrade version of remedy email engine
forms and related objects if disabled installer will fail to import the objects
thus all further components install.. in 8.1 whatever components comes under AR
components , they will be installed as a part of installer (you need them or
not). Hence installer expect email engine be enabled.

Re: Blank out password for bulk of people profiles

2013-09-18 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

Just tried this on an version 8.1.00 patch 002 server using Mid-Tier and a
7.6.04 SP5 ARUser.exe.

In ARUser.exe it worked fine to do a Modify-All and set the password to $NULL$.

In Mid-Tier it also worked fine to do a Modify-All and typing in $NULL$ in the
password field.

So if this does not work, it seems that patching/upgrading should do the trick.

I am quite sure that this is a client thing.

I have never encountered this NOT working though, but I have not tried it much
on Mid-Tier.

It is proper behavior. Remedy does not allow comparisons on password fields,
among some other operations due to security reasons.

You could try if you really need to do some legit workflow like you appear
to want to do, by setting some other field to null in your workflow,
exporting the def to xml, and then switch the field you changed to null to
the password field and then import it.

The dev studio generally does not validate the contents of those mappings
when done that way as long as the basic structure of the def files are solid
so it might get past the fact that you cannot do it using the dev tool the
 regular way.

 Cheers

I think because it is the password field it takes $NULL$ as the password and
encrypts it, rather than replacing the password with null.
Assuming I got that right, it has been years since I worried about that one,
I would consider it proper behaviour not a bug.

 Hi!

If this does not work with a Modify-All, it would seem to be a bug.

Which version and which client are you using?

You might create a display-only-field named ClearPassword with a Yes choise.
Then create a filter to clear the password filed when this field is set in a
 Modify-transaction.

 Hello Listers,

I'm trying to blank out passwords for bulk of people profiles.
Generally in normal cases I do a modify all and type $NULL$ in the
field I want to set it to NULL(or blank). This doesn't work in
password's case in User form. I know this can be done from backend.
Any other ideas to do it from user tool(front end).

 Karthik.

want emails going out until everything is completed.

Why did you disable the service? Wouldn't just stopping the service, and have
it set to Manual work for not letting it run on the server? Disabling the
service perhaps puts some sort of a system lock on the service to perform a
start of the service during the install to let the installer do what it has to
and then stop it.

As far as I know , this is what might be happening , If this is an upgrade
install , then in 8.1 email engine is a part of AR Components. 8.1 patch
installer expect that existing email engine process has to be enable so that
installer can restart it and import upgrade version of remedy email engine
forms and related objects if disabled installer will fail to import the objects
thus all further components install.. in 8.1 whatever components comes under AR
components , they will be installed as a part of installer (you need them or
not). Hence installer expect email engine be enabled.

2013-09-18 Thread Carl Wilson
Hi,
I would check out the Process log to see what is says as it appears from the
below that there was an event triggered and sent to CDP1 for processing, but
I do not see a distinct error message on the failure of the processing.

Also, have you restarted your CDP since loading in the Rules/Module - AO can
sometimes be touchy on not picking these up correctly until restarted?

Kind Regards,

BMC acknowledges the Jetty vulnerability and we are working on a plan to
address this.

Here are more details on the issues involved.

1. DevStudio and Data Import Tool
- Eclipse framework which is a Third party bundles Jetty for use by the Eclipse
Help System.
- DevStudio and Data Import Tool are Eclipse plugins that use the Eclipse Help
System.
- Note that DevStudio and Data Import Tool are typically used by Admin Users
and are not installed on all boxes.
- We are investigating if we can disable the Eclipse Help System and instead
make it point to BMC online documentation portal doc.bmc.com for Help on
DevStudio and Data Import Tool.

2. Jetty used by AR 8.1 Installers
- AR 8.1 uses Pentaho Data Integration (PDI 4.1.0 Kettle Project) which is a
Third party component.
- The Carte Web Server (part of Pentaho Data Integration – PDI 4.1.0) extends
Jetty.
- Carte is internally launched by installers for starting ETL Tasks as part of
the Install process.
- In general, Carte is not a general Web Server that will be accessed by other
User’s.
- Latest PDI version 4.4 also uses the vulnerable Jetty version.
- PDI is tightly integrated with the Carte Web Server only (embedded Jetty) and
does not give an option of using any other Web Server.
- We are investigating re-building PDI with a Jetty version that fixes the
Jetty vulnerability.

For both issues while the Jetty vulnerability exists in a Third party
component. This vulnerability exists only for Admin Users using these products
on certain boxes. Vulnerability does not exist on all boxes. Vulnerability does
not exist for the end users.

The above 2 issues are tracked internally as defects and we are working on a
plan to address these in a Service Pack.

If anyone has any specific concerns on the Jetty vulnerability mentioned above
or has some useful inputs to share, do get back to us.

For some reason there were rooms on the web site that the front desk doesn’t

Lowest rate if it still shows up as $186.00 plus taxes. Next is $250.00 if
those are all gone. Then you get to regular rates of $359.00+

Let me know off line if you can’t get the room nights you want, although I just
looked and Sept. 28 – Oct. 4th worked.

Still seems to be 3 left even though the room count went up. I think rooms are
appearing out of thin air at this point, but that won’t stop the system from
closing our discount on Friday. You wouldn’t believe how many twinkies I had to

Disabling the outgoing mailbox records should take care of most of it. I
think inflight emails, say in the case of emails already in the AR System
Email Messages form from doing a db restore to another environment already
have referenced the mailbox config and I think would be sent if they had
not been send in the original environment.

Our process run in Remedy from a SHR:Escalation form looking at AR System
Email Messages records. That is a great enhancement idea though... We
could improve the process to look at the mailbox configuration first to
verify it is even enabled before searching pending outgoing records.

 Jason,

So, disabling the outgoing mailbox record in the form should prevent this

Or does the process run inside the ARSystem by looking at the AR System

To counter it, you could have a batch script on startup of the server to
stop the email server if its started by issuing a net stop against the
email service if you are on windows, which I’m assuming you are on as you
mentioned it below on your email..

It is disabled because we don't want any emails to be sent. The Email
Engine will still automatically be started at times if the service is set
to manual. Often times we are working on a clone of a server and
reconfiguring the email engine to work in its new environment is the last
thing on the list. We don't want emails going out until everything is
 completed.

Why did you disable the service? Wouldn’t just stopping the service, and
have it set to Manual work for not letting it run on the server? Disabling
the service perhaps puts some sort of a system lock on the service to
perform a start of the service during the install to let the installer do
what it has to and then stop it.

It seems odd that the forms and related objects would not be imported just
because the Email Engine isn't running? I didn't think the Email Engine
was use for much more that processing incoming and outgoing mail.

We routinely install/upgrade/patch with the Email Engine service disabled.
We get a message stating the email engine wasn't enable or something like
that at the end but never a failure. I had one issue a year go upgrade AR
7.5 to AR 7.6.04 where the email service would get removed and not
recreated. I just added the service back after the install using the batch
 file.

You didn't specify which version of ARS...

It sounds like you imported something to the system and that changed the
default next field ID for the form you are working on (and an ARS patch can do
this). Setting the ID before you save the field when creating it should reset
the next ID to whatever you set + 1

installer is showing only 6 locals, which are already supported. It is not

Visited Links in Application List

2013-09-18 Thread Elyse Bond
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone might have an idea about changing the color on
visited links in the Application List. Our current environment is 7.6.04, and I
have users telling me this used to work in 7.5. I was not around very long for
7.5, so I don't remember whether this is true or not.

Basically they're asking for it to work like browser links, where they would
turn purple once you've clicked on them. Any thoughts on whether this is
possible would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Sorry about that. Our system seen the field IDs and thought I was trying to

My comment was that in version 8.1 it warns you whenever you save a new field
with an ID outside the reserved range. Previous version worked the opposite
and warned when trying to save an ID within the reserve range. It drives me

Re: BMC Cloud

2013-09-18 Thread SUBSCRIBE arslist Aditya Sharma
Customers are given full access to development environment; customer
development team, those can be BMC professional services, external consulting
partners or customer's Remedy knowledgeable staff. All dev work done on DEV
environment are migrated to QA and PROD env by BMC Operations staff who are
actual admins of these cloud hosted sites. Since BMC owns the availability SLAs
for PROD site, no one other then BMC Ops can make any change in QA or PROD
themselves and so is the access restriction policy is there.

All customizations developed on DEV are reviewed by Customization Review Board
(CRB) to make sure this is a valid customization and will survive future
upgrades and does not have adverse impacts on environment performance. Once
approved by CRB, customer's can raise Support ticket requesting the
customization migration to other environments. No customization is promoted and
not approved by CAB (Change Review Board) until they are approved through CRB.

Hi,

We are using the cloud technology with BMC for ITSM applications.
When you have an Admin account – what changes can the Customer’s development
team make to the application?
How does changes to Remedy applications work within the cloud?
BMC mentioned they make changes – however we want to make the changes ourselves.
Is this a situation where we have to quarrel about each change we want – how is
this handled?

Lowest rate if it still shows up as $186.00 plus taxes. Next is $250.00

Let me know off line if you can’t get the room nights you want, although

ARX extract including attachments with Japanese characters in the filenames

2013-09-18 Thread Schryver, Curt
7.6.04 SP2
Oracle 11

I've attempted this a number of times and the process keeps dying. I have a
custom form with around 20,000 records. On the form is an Attachment Pool that
can handle up to 6 attachments. The form is used globally so has a variety of
languages within the data, including the names of the files in the attachments.
I've used both the Windows client and the Mid-Tier. Knew I'd have issues with
the Windows client but was willing to accept strange data if I could get the
attachments intact. I would get several thousand files in my data folder and
then suddenly the process would just die - it was trying to save a file with a
Japanese character in the filename. So, I moved over to the Mid-Tier and tried
the same thing. At least here I could tell it to save the data in UTF-8 so
everything should be good. It appears that it is trying to write all of the
files to one big ZIP file, which is fine by me, but again, it just dies in the
middle.

My question is... how can I extract attachments that have Japanese characters
in the filenames?

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Visited Links in Application List

Our system seen the field IDs and thought I was trying to
send out an ssn so it encrypted it.

My comment was that in version 8.1 it warns you whenever you save a new field
with an ID outside the reserved range. Previous version worked the opposite
and warned when trying to save an ID within the reserve range. It drives me

Lowest rate if it still shows up as $186.00 plus taxes. Next is $250.00 if
those are all gone. Then you get to regular rates of $359.00+

Let me know off line if you can't get the room nights you want, although I just
looked and Sept. 28 - Oct. 4th worked.
Still seems to be 3 left even though the room count went up. I think rooms are
appearing out of thin air at this point, but that won't stop the system from
closing our discount on Friday. You wouldn't believe how many twinkies I had to

I've attempted this a number of times and the process keeps dying. I have a
custom form with around 20,000 records. On the form is an Attachment Pool
that can handle up to 6 attachments. The form is used globally so has a
variety of languages within the data, including the names of the files in the
attachments. I've used both the Windows client and the Mid-Tier. Knew I'd
have issues with the Windows client but was willing to accept strange data
if I could get the attachments intact. I would get several thousand files in
my data folder and then suddenly the process would just die - it was trying to
save a file with a Japanese character in the filename. So, I moved over to
the Mid-Tier and tried the same thing. At least here I could tell it to save
the data in UTF-8 so everything should be good. It appears that it is trying
to write all of the files to one big ZIP file, which is fine by me, but again,
it just dies in the middle.

My question is... how can I extract attachments that have Japanese characters
 in the filenames?

 Thanks!

Re: 7.1 to 8.1

2013-09-18 Thread Karthik Nagaramu
Hi Teresa,

We have successfully done a upgrade from 7.1 to 8.1. But there are
important points to be considered. We used the 7 step staged approach which
you find details in the docs.bmc.com.

One main issues we faced is with the CMDB architecture change to remove
attributes from CMDB and place it in Asset. This required a lot of process
and integration changes in our environment.

Before the upgrade please perform and analysis of areas/process impacted
because of the changes or new functionality introduced in 8.1. Which will
help to have a plan on the upgrade.

Regards,
Karthik
