This might seem somewhat of a stupid question for some but, are any of you who are experiencing bugs using a 5s with iOS 8.1? Im running just that and have had no problem. The only bug that I noticed is that vo will take you back to the start of a menu sometimes, but yeah thats all. Trying to 3 star every level just because.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

I have slash had been quite excited for this game since it was announced No matter how simplistic the gameplay may turn out to be (which it shouldnt be really) up to a certain point, anyway. The sounds, as youd expect from a somethinelse release are quite fantastic and that alone makes me want to play it again and again.Unfortunatly I am suffering through the crash bug, the screen autolocking after a minute or whatever amount the screen is set to lock automaticly no matter if I shoot, flit around etc bug, and the slot machine level bug as well. Quite unexpected and surpriseing these bugs were, imo.Meanwhile here is what they say. which is good news but still a wait of a week or longer, depending upon apple and the audiodefense team. Thanks for all your comments and bug reports! We are listening and working on the
m now and will post an update with fixes soon.A good place to send more detailed comments and bug reports is audiodefe...@somethinelse.com. Thanks for your input! If you are getting stuck on Spicing things up, try shooting the power up before you kill all the zombies. That will allow you to progress. We are of course working on fixing the problem with the power up in an update! But we dont want you to get stuck meanwhile.copyed from their twitter timelineIf you submit a bug report or such remember to mention the device you experienced it on,and your ios version as well.At dark, the bugs are not just limited to ios8, I am using ios7 myself and yet am experiencing the bugs I mentioned above.grryf

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

I myself am experiencing the following bugs:In the shop, I cannot select the weapons I want to use in endless mode. When I try to go to that screen, it simply pops up an alert saying that Dr. Bastard will select my weapons for challenges but I can select my weapons for Endless. I already know that, now how do I select said weapons? LolAs Dark said, there is a bug with diamonds. I also cannot change the cards in endless mode.I do wish the music wasnt quite as loud as it is sometimes, as it makes things hard to hear. Endless mode can be pretty chalenging at the beginning because youre not introduced to most of the higher level zombies that tend to show up. Collecting coins can be a dragging process, at least for me... Im getting better though. I cant wait until I get really good. Challenge mode isnt too easy either... but I do like it. I really hope they release more challenges soon! But Id rather the bugs be fixed first. It
;s not unplayable for me, but bordering on frustrating.

This is a lot more challenging and strategic than I first thought it would be. I have found that an iPhone restart has made the crash is a lot less frequent. Especially in endless mode. I wonder if the game is leaking memory? I absolutely love this.it would be great if they could add more staff in the future, even if they went to be app purchase route.I would be more than willing to support them that way. Though I have noticed that the game is missing quite a bit of content already. It still feels kind of like a beta to me.

WARNING! THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! I DOUBT IT THOUGH!Hi all. So Im suffering a bug was wondering if anyone else is, too. In the zombie horde level in the city crossroads arena, I kill all the zombies, but then theres no buzzer. I just stand there and nothing happens. I can shoot, I can turn around, I can switch and reload weapons, I can swing my melee, but nope. nothing. And in endless. Sometimes, the game will just freeze. Therell be a zombie within my melee range, for example, then it just disappears, as with all the zombies, and I can do nothing. when I turn voice over back on, Im not in the pause menu, the game is just frozen.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

@Sebby, the equality discussion might be fun elsewhere, but for the immediate point I agree, on the one hand sighted gamers do need an intro to audiogames, on the other that intro should not give sighted gamers the impression that all audiogames are essentially bopit. However, just because mechanics are simple doesnt mean the game cant be addictive and have gameplay that requires more complete thought. Look at blind swordsman as an audio game designed as a novelty for sighted gamers with very simple mechanics, but mechanics worked out to be addictive and challenging. After all, there is a reason that a lot of 80s games like packman, space invaders etc became so popular and addictive even though the principles and mechanics were simple.

Agreed Dark. Well, I dont object to bop-it; it can be fun too. Of course, I think many early games were addictive purely on the face of the limited interface, i.e. the story was all you could really go on. PacMan is fun just as much because its a reaction test as because it puts the central character into an entertaining and exhilarating position IMO.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

Well now the game is out, see This announcement I have my copy but cant say much thus far as Ive only just downloaded it and cant play currently sinse I need to wait while the counsel fix my door. As to your previous comments Sebby, I agree there is a place for boppit, but weve already seen far too many audiogames like that. I disagree though that packman is a simple reaction test. If you analize the gameplay of the graphical version, its calculating a number of factors into the future, the movments of all four ghosts across the maze both currently and in the future, the necessity to track those predictive pathways along side packmanns current position and the position of the dots packman needs to eat, and the need to balance this against the limited resource of the power pills. Additionally, all of these factors need to b
e learnt, sinse a gamer who initially picks up packman and isnt fully aware of the speed at which packman moves, accellerates and turns relative to the ghosts is going to be far less successful than a gamer who is fully familiar with all the movement intrinsic in the engine. If Boppit is a game of catch, packman is juggling five balls, and that to me is what makes for interesting game mechanics, giving the player a number of factors to micro manage and mechanics of movement and control that the player needs to master, effectively giving the player more balls to juggle.Whether Audio defense will be successful with this I dont know, though I intend to spend the next while finding out .

Hi,Ditto with the diamond bug. Thats kind of big because some of the upgrades require them, the final weapon requires 30 diamonds, for instance. Also, Ive actually managed to make the game freeze in endless mode. I think I might have encountered a whisperer, I shot one, which was fine, I then shot the next one that appeared and the game froze, I could turn but couldnt shoot, tapping made no sound, no zombies were appearing.Only thing I could do was press the home button to get out of the app.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

Audio Defence Blog:How we came up with Audio DefenceOctober 30th, 2014 So, how did we come up with the underlying idea for Audio Defence you ask? Well, we’ve done loads of research on the game play of our last audio game Papa Sangre II. We’d implemented loads of new ways to interact with an audio world in that game : clap your hands, extinguish fires, stabbing enemies, throwing stuff, and … shooting! We soon realised that shooting was incredibly fun and accurate despite the fact that you cannot see your enemies, and pretty much all our testers loved the duck shooting level at least as much as we did! We’d thought about having more shooting levels in Papa Sangre, but soon realised that wasn’t quite right for the game. However, a shooting game using the Papa Engine seemed to be well worth a try.So we created a prototype. One of our main concerns was to keep it as simple as possible. Papa Sangre allows you to walk, run, swim, look around, use your hands, and do many other things. That means that the players have to complete a few tutorial levels before being able to fully enjoy the game play, and not just contemplate the 3D audio scenery. That’s why we decided to make Audio Defence only about aiming and shooting. We wanted anybody to be able to grab an iPhone, and enjoy the game even if they were playing for the first time. In that sense, the prototype was a success as we manage to get people with no experience on our previous games to have fun. When using gyro control players also told us they felt immersed in the game world much quicker. We put this down to consistency between what you do in the real world and what you do in the game. When you turn in the world you turn in the game. We’ve built the game around this boiled down control scheme and immediate effect, creating depth by introducing new weapons, enemies or type of challenges. We’ll talk about these aspects of the game in later blog posts.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

Glad you sent the tweat jonnyboy. I played endless mode and though I believe I killed several diamond zombies, I didnt get a single diamond, also when I suffered death by chainsaw zombies in the last of the Roman arena challenges, the game crashed. In fairness it had to be the worlds creepiest crash, the game just froze, the background music went on playing and I continually heard my character scream as he was continually sliced and diced by the zombie over and over again, but all commands were inoperative and I had to close the ap with the ap switcher. It was an annoying bug, but quite a hilariously grusome one! :d.As to the game, I like the idea behind it and the challenges are I admit more fun than I thought and do require stratogy, I also like the way endless mode has the taro card deck to give conditions, though I do wish you could specify whether to play with cards or not.Doctor Bastard is just as much of, well a bastard as I though
t, (I love the bit where he insisted you dance), and the audio ambience is nice, although the thing I like best is gyro control, swipes, shakes and taps for use of weapons, a far more immediate way of challenging the player particularly with how fast you need to spin sometimes, and shaking the phone to get rid of a close by zombie is quite a nice sensation.Oh, and if you have some vision, the blood red screne on death is really quite unnurving and a nice effect, it gave me quite a shock when I first saw it.The audio is great as always, I particularly like the way that now that the physical motion of the player is employed, telling what is behind you (which was a miner problem I had with enemies in Night Jar and the first Pappa Sangre), is really not a problem. I do hope they fix the bugs, especially the diamond one, though with a new release some bugs are at least slightly expected, however I will say Im not disappointed in the game.

There was a lady on the audeasy list who couldnt start the game and was stuck on the select your control method screen, and I wonder if she had the Ipad problem you mention. I wouldnt be surprised if we see a bug fix in a few days, sinse hay this is fairly standard for new software of any sort. Im sorry the bugs are stopping you entirely from enjoying the game rather than just being a miner irritant as they are in my case.

Pretty show stopping bugs. I wouldnt say they were miner. Also the whisperers game breaking bug isnt voice over specific. Something else Ive noticed, different parts of the user interface get mashed together. For example I die in endless mode, back out of there and start a challenge. Swiping through controls with vo lets me still read the game over screen and all its buttons. The game shouldnt have released in this state imo.

This game is incredibly buggy. To get past the second powerup machine, hit the skip dialog button while Doctor Bastard is talking. When I play the endless mode, the screen will literally freeze for no reason whatsoever. Ir evived for one diamond and tried that wave again, but after a zombie killed me, I was still whacking it with a melee weapon. No sound was playing, but I could turn and hit. I couldnt fire though.Selecting info from the main menu shows no text whatsoever. The tilting seems rather unresponsive.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

Im still amused at the deadly wok, well its sort of like the traditional housewife style frying pan of death, but more eligant and oriental. @Avid gamer, How can there be find objects when you are standing still and shooting zombies. Of course! the missions will involve killing zombies, but the important question I suspect is what zombies you need to kill. What combinations they come in, what weapons you can use, how fast the zombies move, how long you have to kill a certain number or how long you can survive against a certain hoard. There are still lots of factors that can be played with to create different types and styles of challenge even if the game is limited to the previously mentioned zombie types and you cannot move. That is why I said the important thing will be the game mechanics, sinse if you can still practically kill most everything by reacting as fast as possible when you hear them and just hammering away, then whate
ver combinations wont matter (just as in Troopanum 2 while it had the different types of ships, not many actually required you to change tactics beyond kill them fast). On the other hand, if the mechanics are addictive enough and require you to think and judge the zombies as they appear, then different combinations and styles of challenge will require different methods of thinkig and taking them down, which could! make for a highly satisfying and addictive game.

I agree with those cautious about too great an emphasis on simplicity. Of course, its easy to forget how sighted people would react to the kind of depth and mechanics were after, but I do worry that they may also be given the wrong impression about the kinds of play wed enjoy. Not that Im ungrateful for anything, but just as a sighted person might not like to have their happiness damped by the abilities of another, so we would expect the same. Of course this leads nicely into a political discussion about equality which I will _not_ entertain on this thread.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

October 28th, 2014 We are really proud to announce that we are soon going to release our new game: Audio Defence: Zombie ArenaIt has all the cool stuff you’d want in a zombie game, but is quite unlike anything you’ve ever played before. Unless you played our last game Papa Sangre II, which was Metacritic’s iOS game of the year 2013 (and had Sean Bean doing voice over). We see it as the quicker, dirtier successor to Papa Sangre II. We’ve kept the horror and immersion, but chucked out almost everything else in favour of SPEED AND FURY so you can just pick up and play. You are the Blind Warrior, trapped in Dr Bastard’s arenas, forced to fight off wave after wave of his zombies. As you progress you’ll need to master the Pistol, the Sawn-off Shotgun, the Hunting Rifle, the Machine Gun, the Bazooka, the Grenade Launcher and the Sonic Cannon, among others. If the zombies get too close you’ll have to resort to a range of melee weapons … a Wok, a Banjo, some Golf Clubs, a Cattle Prod and a Claymore. Reassuring? It will be quite unlike any zombie game you’ve played before. The zombies and playing environment are all rendered in high fidelity binaural sound. There are no graphics to represent them. You can only hear them, which is why gameplay is so immersive. Because the sound is binaural (3D audio), using only ordinary headphones you actually hear the zombies in the world all around you, and you are situated right in the middle of the game. It’s like AR* for the EAR. Oculus thrift. This game has no In App Purchase – everything you need to complete the game, is available within the game itself. How long will you survive? That is up to you and your aural shooting skills…Did we mention that the evil Dr Bastard will do anything in his power to entertain its crowd, even if it means throwing you to the mercy of lurching zombies? We are a few days away from release now.. your patience will be reward Blind Warrior.

I suspect Avid gamer from the writup, yes, it will go on forever, or possibly have an endless mode, but it will also have individual missions and awards to complete meaning your not just sitting and zombie slaughtering. Hopefully the gameplay and mechanics will be enough to stop things becoming tedius however. Indeed, with it now confirmed there are no in game ap peurchices, clearly the in game currency previously mentioned needs to be earnt by zombie slaughter alone, which has a goal in itself, and after all every good game show needs big money prizes, and what better use for your big money than converting it into big, zombie slaying guns!Ill certainly be picking this up as soon as it comes out.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

@Brad the analogue physical movement is a good idea and could provide some interest for the game (I like it in papa 2), though whether it will make for a sustaining mechanic or just something that looks cool at first but fades into the background when your used to it I dont know.@Raygrote, good post, and not just because of the zombie descriptions, a thumbs up from me for your structured thoughts on this one. Looking at the way the zombies work out I can see that somethinelse have thought somewhat tactically, eg, having the Berserk zombies as zombies you actively dont want to shoot, and having other types that complement each other, eg the chainsaw zombie moving sideways and the circling clown, or the fast snufflehog and riot gear zombie. However whether this proves effective will depend upon the subtleties of mechanics, distance and speed of movement. Troopanum 2 was obviously planned to have similar varieties of complementary ship types, however the pro
blem was that the speed at which the ships appeared and the speed of your rate of fire necessitated that apart from the swinging liquidator ships that could only be shot in the center of the arena, you were still reacting to each ship in roughly the same way, ie, hitting it as quickly as possible. Even judgement day tended to run down to similar basic reaction tactics despite the enemies differing in style. If we are faced with a massive hoard of standard or reject zombies interspersed with the odd other type and the mechanics are entirely just based on speed then the game becomes mostly a reaction test. If the zombie and player movements, along with the rte of fire are better calibrated to go for a more tactical method of playing, then this might not be the case. Ultimately it will come down to does a person progress in the game simply by reacting faster, or does a person progress by learning the engine and needing to make crytical judgements about w
hat enemies are presented. Even in the first case we could have a fun game, but probably not one that will have much replay value or incentive to try and ged kill many zombies, get a high score, earn achievements etc sinse reaction is fundamentally just reaction and not by itself addictive. After all which game is more fun, snap or or uno.I agree sound design of somethinelse has always been good, and this is one area where I fully expect them to deliver particularly well. While I wouldnt knock audio games for bad sound design, if it is done well it really helps and every one of somethinelses games has done sound design superbly.Im now just wanting to try the game and see whether it lives up to expectations or justifies my apprehention .

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

Well I dont personally like that Blind game phrase, but leaving that aside I take your point, however this is perhaps why on the simplicity front I can understand why Somethinelse are building a game essentially as an introduction to audiogames for sighted gamers who have not played games like Troopanum or Superliam before, much less something more complex, sinse after all part of the reason Papa Sangre has court the attention of sighted gamers is Im afraid, novelty value. So I do understand the thinking behind having a simpler, introductory, arcade style game for those new to audio, in the hope that people will go on To Papa Sangre etc later, however I am still concerned over the mechanics issue sinse far too often when simpler games have been tried they do boil down to audio reaction tests, ie, boppit. This was one reason I was hoping for a closed arena shooter, sinse it would provide some tactical play requiring the player to judge their pos
ition and that of enemies, not just hear it, hit it. Obviously as Blind Swordsman proves it is possible to have good, addictive mechanics that work on judgement in a simple game, but on average that is far less common, which is why I say I have a few missgivings but want to play the game before making up my mind.

Heart racing, as you here the moans of the undead, you realize theres one to your rite, so you turn your body, ( your actual body, not just swiping a finger.) And shoot!. So you will have to actually get some exercise whilst playing this game. You will be using your body to find the monsters. Now if thats not advancement of Audiogames. I dont know what is.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

Although I understand that a turn and shoot style of game could be simple, boring and tedious, I do have high hopes for this title. After all, Sixth Sense is similar, and it does get hard relatively quickly though I do confess that after youve gotten some of the bettter weapons, the first 5 minutes of a game are quite boring as you dont gain anything but currency and are only fending yourself from zombies which were previously difficult but are now almost mindlessly easy. But it does get harder relatively quickly. Secondly, the sound design alone on this game will keep me occupied for at least a little while, not only because I am into sound design, but because if the game sounds anything like the kickstarter video, it will be quite satisfying to take out scores of zombies. In mainstream games, and I have a feeling in Audiodefense as well, you feel the recoil a little bit just because the crack of the gun is so exaggerated, you cringe a little, perhaps victoriously at the gore because it is so grossly overstated, and you sinically grin as your foe hits the ground with a deep, loud thud. Perhaps the reason I like it so much is that the sounds are meant to pull you in, dont have any obvious flaws at least in the mix, and have been recorded and mastered by professionals and foley artists to have about a billion times more impact than would be the case if you were to do it in real life. Less violent games can still do it as well, Im just using Audiodefense as an example because there are so many ways to push up the in yo face aspect that I like. Not to criticize audio games, because I love them to death, but in my opinion, a decent amount of audio games dont have that sonic impact, you just cant feel the sounds hit you although you know whats happening. Thirdly, Audiodefense advertises many zombies, and the voice acting in all their games is quite nice. Ill go into that later. So while I am not opposing or defending the turn and shoot style of gameplay, I am just expressing why I have high hopes for the game, whatever the style is. Whether it meets my expectations or not remains to be seen when its released. The level of difficulty, I will leave to no pre-judgment, only that I expect at some point to be challenged and beaten mercilessly while at the same time having a chance to learn the mechanics first. Somethin Else games are pretty good about starter levels, actuallly I feel llike sometimes theyre too easy even for a tutorial, but still I dont think getting used to the game will be an issue. Now for the zombies: The Zombiepedia on Audiodefenses web site talks briefly about the zombies. It sounds to me like enemy descriptions that youd see in the manual of Super Liam, for example. Very direct but brief, not giving you much in the way of just figuring it out on your own. But I dont mind that, and I bet a mainstream audience would appreciate the direct writing, as most have not played audio games before and really have no clue what to do. Ill copy and paste it here so you can read it more easily. If you go on the actual page, there are sound cloud links for most of the zombies so you can hear what they might sound like. Some of them are quite exciting!Classic ZombieThe show is called ‘Dr. Bastard’s Zombie Arena’, so he has to deliver some classic zombies. That means the slow, feet-shuffling kind. They can take a couple of bullets more than a Reject, but are easily beaten if they come alone.-BerserkA formidable Zombie you don’t want to mess with. The Berserk is a blind zombie who looks for his prey by sniffing around. If you don’t shoot him, he will go away in a few seconds. A single bullet that hits him will cause him to go into a frenzy and charge towards you very fast, and be warned: he can take a lot of bullets!-ChainsawThe crowd’s favourite. This crazy undead is smart enough not only to wield a chainsaw, but also to run at you moving sideways. You want to keep your ears on him, ready to notice which direction he’s turning, to make sure your bullets keep hitting him!-ClownDr. Bastard likes to dress his craziest zombies as clowns. He likes to give them rusty knives, too. The Clown’s main mission is to annoy the Blind Warrior running in circles around you, but don’t let that fool you. Clowns slowly close in and will eventually attack if left alive for too long!-ColossusDr. Bastard’s masterpiece, a gigantic zombie so big its tiny brain can only handle two motor skills: walking towards the closest human and smashing the closest human with a massive club it carries. The Colossus is the toughest zombie you’ll ever meet. If you don’t focus on it the moment it appears, you won’t have enough time to sink enough bullets into it to down it.-FartyAs a fan of old action movies, Dr. Bastard likes explosions on his show. Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

@Brad the analogue physical movement is a good idea and could provide some interest for the game (I like it in papa 2), though whether it will make for a sustaining mechanic or just something that looks cool at first but fades into the background when your used to it I dont know.@Afrim, good post, and not just because of the zombie descriptions, a thumbs up from me for your structured thoughts on this one. Troopanum 2 was obviously planned to have similar varieties of complementary ship types, however the proble
m was that the speed at which the ships appeared and the speed of your rate of fire necessitated that apart from the swinging liquidator ships that could only be shot in the center of the arena, you were still reacting to each ship in roughly the same way, ie, hitting it as quickly as possible. Ultimately it will come down to does a person progress in the game simply by reacting faster, or does a person progress by learning the engine and needing to make crytical judgements about what
enemies are presented.

Interesting you say the gameplay is a step backwards Astral, sinse as I said that was my concern, though i am looking forward to the missions and extras and what not. I do think there is room for simpler arcade games, and certainly i can see the arguement that to a sighted gamer who hasnt played with audio before something simpler would be a better intro to the genre than say papa sangre, for all that experienced audio gamers see Papa Sangre as not a tough game. However, that doesnt really overcome the arguement that most audio games are simple and often boppit style reaction based already. Of course simple doesnt necessarily mean bad if the mechanics are up to the task, look at blind swordsman, and I do have confidence in Somethinelse on that score so well see, and if nothing else a game that I can play for 10 minutes while waiting for the buss wont be a bad thing.Ill certainly be getting the game, though I do hope some
thinelse will engage in some more audio complexity next time, either a more complex adventure title building on what Papa 2 started, or something entirely different.

Hi,I think they wanted to go more arcade style on this one, maybe as an experiment to see if people like it. the trouble is, I also hope they will create more games in the future but Im also a little worried that this could be their last audiogame. It hasnt really got much attention though either, their marketing has been, for want of a better word, but theres no two ways about it, lackluster.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

Well, well see how the marketing goes sinse theyre now doing competitions such judging by the above message, and one thing Arcade games do do well with is the hole score board business which ought to be good for publicity. I disagree that they couldnt have done arcade but still given you the ability to move, indeed if an arcade game has more tactical options than just react and shoot, then it will likely prove more addictive. This is actually what worries me with the game sinse even for sighted gamers if its just a case of turn to zombie and fire I dont know how popular the game will get, but as I said Im prepared to reserve judgement, sinse obviously theyre working on lots of extras to keep people interested such as extra missions, achievements and what not, i just hope the gameplay itself is up to the task.Still, Ill be buying it as soon as it comes out, or if it is free with extras for sale, Ill buy some
extras to support somethinelse sinse the work theyve done in the past has been awsome, and who knows its entirely possible this game will be too.

Well, As i read somewhere the game will be completely premium, so no freemium model this time what is excellent for me as I dont like games where paying means playing very often. So, probably the game will be paid without any inapp purchases. As you can read, there is ingame currency. As for movement, yeah, it can be weakness of the tittle. Turning around and shooting sounds really standard and basic. Hope to see some extra interaction, reloading manually, changing weapons in the fly etc.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

@Arq, It might have a similar atmosphere to swamp, though given they gave some hints about it being some sort of murderous game it probably will be a little more theatrical in atmosphere (I look fforward to hearing Doctor Bastard). However gameplay wise as I said it sounds more like an advanced sixth sense, with you fixed in one position, turning and shooting zombies before they reach you, ie, basically another audio space invaders remake with zombies. Of course tthat doesnt preclude it being a good game, but I will say it will probably have to work harder to grab my interest, although gyro control in that style of game could be fun. @Seal, Your correct that this is likely a commercial game rather than freemium, and I dont know what in game currency means, whether it means currency that can buy in game stuff which is purchiceable with real money or just currency you get in the game as you play that is a reward. I could see that bei
ng a fun mechanic and a way of making you play longer, say if you got a coin for each zombie you slay and each new weapon or mode of the game costs so many coins. I wouldnt myself mind a freemium model as long as A, you were buying something substantial that had a point to it, and B, the game didnt specifically restrict you for no reason as Seal said, for example forcing you to buy life refills in order to play again, but Ive had a better impression than that of somethinelse thus far, so if there is something to buy it is hopefully something that is worth buying.

Cant say without spoilers. Honestly, Im not really looking forward to this. And this is coming from someone who gave such high marks to their most recent title. This is in some ways simplifying the game play too much. Movement would be a good thing. It wont be as easy as you might think but still, it is a step backward in my view. Also, the lack of true story depth is disappointing. And dont get me started on the atrocious marketing. Ive beaten that horse to death. Will I review it? Frankly, Id have to be convinced.

AUDIO DEFENCE: ZOMBIE ARENA, the follow up to Papa Sangre II is coming very soon. We mean very soon.If Papa Sangre II was a gourmet meal, then Audio Defence is the dirty, filthy, delicious burger from the van parked outside. It’s a zombie shooter. You play a blind warrior who can’t see the approaching waves of zombies. You can only hear them and shoot them, and as you know, with binaural audio, they will swarm ALL AROUND YOU.Weve boiled down the game play so all you have to do is turn and shoot. You can use the gyro for maximum immersion. All the zombies are the master creations of the evil Dr Bastard, who takes pleasure in your gruesome death. There is a badass range of special Zombies and weapons - Chainsaw Zombies will give you a really close binaural haircut, Farty Zombies explodes in a towering inferno of noise and gore. You start with little popgun pistol and eventually graduate to the sonic cannon. There are missions, challenges and in game currency, Game Center support - everything youd expect. Our developers really have had fun making this. If you’re a journalist or a games blogger or vlogger or an p-ogger (i.e. you podcast) we’d love it if you’d do a review. Please mail audiodefe...@somethinelse.com. If you can think of any ELSE you can do to help get the word out write to us too. We’ll give a free copy to the best suggestions.http://www.audiodefence.com/

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

@SLJ and others ... heres the email.Hello everyone! As you can attest, the second round of testing hasn’t begun yet. The reason for that is mostly because we had a very, very good first round, with peoplefinding critical bugs and accessibility quirks, and reporting the gameplay reactions that we were expecting. This means we’re headed in the right direction, and we’ve chosen to invest all of our time in pushing the game forward with this data instead of trying to collect more.We may want to double-check with more testing right before release, but please don’t keep your hopes up for a second round anymore. I know this is a bitof a bummer for all you who have been expecting to get involved with the game, but again, this only means the game is in very good shape, and you’ll getto play the action audio game we were aiming for. Now, a note about our Kickstarter, which by the time you read this will have officially ended without reaching its funding goal: it’s a pity we didn’tmake it, but we’ll release the game anyway, and sooner than most successful Kickstarters.  The lack of Kickstarter funding will mean we can’t invest inproper marketing, which is quite bad because we wanted everyone to know about how Audio Defence is the most action packed audio game on iOS.That’s all in the future, though. From the present I can assure you this: Audio Defence is currently feature and content complete, and has been for thepast two weeks. That’s the fancy way to say the game is finished! That doesn’t mean we’re done, however. We’re investing all of our time balancing thegame, tweaking sounds, squashing bugs, checking performance issues and getting accessibility navigation as smooth as possible. That’s a lot of work andwe’re a very small team, and we’ll keep working until we reach a premium level of quality.Speaking of small teams, ours is about to get a bit smaller. I was taken in to work mostly on game design and like I said, that part is done already! I’llbe replying emails personally from today until friday, but from then on please direct any further questions to audiodefe...@somethinelse.com,and someone from the team will get back to you.It has been lovely to see how passionate you guys have been.Cheers!Carles SalasURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=171150#p171150

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

No one knows when the game comes. they havent started the second beta testing round yet, because they are still fixing bugs in the first beta version. Last friday, the small team got even smaller, because the game designer has finnished his work, which I think means all the design of the game is finnished. So now they just need to fix lots of bugs, maybe add more features and go through lots of beta testing.Im sure the people behind the project will announce for sure when the game is out. If not, the beta testers will! URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=171052#p171052

Hi,As of oday, theres no blog post on the audiodefence.com website saying whats going to happen next. So, my question is now, how will we know when the games released? I thought by now wed at least have a post saying that yes, the games definitely coming. Not a release date, but just an assurance, for those who arent subscribed to the newsletter or beta team.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=171019#p171019

They told all of us Beta testers that the game is definitely coming. for one thing, it would be silly for them not to release it after all the work already put into it and how close to complete it is. The kick starter page suggested that it would be done and released sometime in May, so thats when Id start watching for it, personally. As Dark said though, I wouldnt worry about missing it. Im sure theyll let us know when its coming out!PS. It rocks, let me just say that now...ShadowURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=171028#p171028

Well Marketing for any independent developer is getting harder these days, which is why even established indi devssuch as Niels bauer have problems. My issue with kickstarter isnt what the money was used for, simply the amount, particularly since kickstarter is an all or nothing deal, indeed this is likely why donating to their aps would help. Either way I agree with Aaron, and hope they will create more games in the future.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170475#p170475

Hi,OK, now this is really quite annoying. Why cant they just send out a quick tweet that says OK, this kickstarter campaign has failed but the game will be coming. Heck, they could have scheduled the tweet a day before if theyd known it would fail. Im a bit surprised at this, and I just hope this does not mean they are giving up.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170483#p170483

They are down-sizing. Id copy and paste the email we received but I dont want to get flack for it. The game will be made and is done so be happy for that. it is just a shame that they didnt plan things out well. Remember, the whole game idea was thought of spur of the moment as stated in the Kickstarter description.@DarkWe agree. You just are viewing things from a purely audio game perspective whereas Im taking the broader and more mainstream approach to the problem that exists.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170499#p170499

The game is comming for sure. Ive recieved a mail because Im one of the beta testers, telling that they wont properly get all the money from Kickstarter, but theyll still keep working on the game for sure.Things are going great. People are reporting lots of positive feedback and the guys behind the project are interested in fixing as many bugs as possible, which means the second test round hasnt started yet as planned. Well, thats only good news I think. Keep working until all the bugs are fixed instead rrush out and release something which is full of bugs! So, just be patient and look forward to the most epic action packed zombie shooter for IOS, ever! @AstralAudio, I think thats a wee bit unfair.Certainly, they could have done things better. But theres also a lot to be said for integrating one of the biggest targets of this game (i.e. us blind folk) into a mainstream marketing campaign. And indeed there are plenty of inclusionary benefits to doing that.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170332#p170332

Myself I think they over estimated the amount from kickstarter and the time needed. practically Vi gaming doesnt generate much cash, and though there are certainly of people in the community who will contribute, your not talking ten thousanddollars. That is one reason I suggest in ap purchices as a way of generating income sinse then you are not reliant only on support either from the Vi community, or from some random press releases through social media gaming sights such as penny arcade that are already glutted with news and projects.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=170343#p170343
