I’m going to see if I have any records for them. Do you have any records for
these names in Vila Franca?

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Raleza, Antonio Soares

2018-06-04 Thread JR
May I ask, which Raleza line you are you researching, because obviously,
this Antonio Soares Raleza is the brother of Manuel Soares Raleza; Also
found record where Francisco Soares (married Antonia Julia), father of both
said people, was named as Francisco Soares Raleza (aka Francisco Soares de
Oliveira). So Francisco, the father, is the source of the Raleza apelido.

*Descendants of Francisco Soares Raleza*

*Generation No. 1*

*1.* FRANCISCO SOARES RALEZA was born Abt. 1837 in Matriz de Sao Miguel,
Vila Franca. He married ANTONIA JULIA 24 Apr 1859 in Matriz de Sao Miguel,
Vila Franca, daughter of MANUEL GRACIOSO and FRANCISCA. She was born 19
Nov 1830 in Sao Pedro de Vila Franca.

Children of FRANCISCO SOARES RALEZA and ANTONIA are:

2.i.MANUEL SOARES RALEZA, b. 17 Jun 1866, Matriz de Sao
Miguel, Vila Franca.

3. ii.ANTONIO SOARES RALEZA, b. 05 May 1864, Matriz de Sao
Miguel, Vila Franca.

 iii.FRANCISCO SOARES JUNIOR, b. 10 Aug 1869, Matriz de
Sao Miguel, Vila Franca; m. ANTONIA DE JESUS, 05 Feb 1894, Matriz de Sao
Miguel, Vila Franca; b. Matriz de Sao Miguel, Vila Franca.

*Generation No. 2*

*2.* MANUEL SOARES RALEZA was born 17 Jun 1866 in Matriz de Sao Miguel,
Vila Franca. He married MARIA JOSE VENTURA 06 Sep 1893 in Matriz de Sao
Miguel, Vila Franca, daughter of JOSE VENTURA and MARIA. She was born Abt.
1879 in Matriz de Sao Miguel, Vila Franca.

Children of MANUEL SOARES RALEZA and MARIA VENTURA are:

i.MARIA, b. 05 Dec 1894, Matriz de Sao Miguel, Vila
Franca.

ii.JOAO, b. 05 Sep 1896, Matriz de Sao Miguel, Vila
Franca.

iii.ANTONIO SOARES RALEZA, b. Matriz de Sao Miguel,
Vila Franca; m. HORTENCIA LUIS PIMENTEL; b. 1921; d. 2015.

*3.* ANTONIO SOARES RALEZA was born 05 May 1864 in Matriz de Sao Miguel,
Vila Franca. He married MARIA DA ESTRELA 04 Nov 1889 in Sao Pedro, Vila
Franca, daughter of JOSE COSTA MACETA and MARIA. She was born Abt. 1871 in
Sao Pedro, Vila Franca.

Child of ANTONIO SOARES RALEZA and MARIA is:

  i.VIRGINIA, b. 20 Aug 1900, Matriz de Sao Miguel,
Vila Franca.

2018-05-18 Thread Cheri Mello
Hi Priscilla,

On Sao Miguel, you need to know an ancestor that was born, married, or died
in 1905 or 1910 or before. It depends on the freguesia.

Let us pretend you have an ancestor who married in 1903 in Vila Franca (Sao
Miguel Arcanjo/Matriz). You go to that marriage book in 1903 (they are
online) and you look for your ancestors names. Once you find them, it will
say that they are the son or daughter of ___. And where they are from.
You follow the paper trail back from there.

Use Tombo.pt to navigate. It's much easier to use than the Centro do
Conhecimento dos Azores (CCA) site. Tombo.pt will link you there once you
are done navigating.

1) Tombo.pt
2) Left column: You can type Vila Franca do Campo in the search box. Or you
can scroll down the left column to Acores, then Sao Miguel, then Vila
Franca do Campo (concelho), then Vila Franca do Campo (itself), then pick
the church.
3) Look for the series or record set: baptism, marriage, or death. Vila
Franca has some indices too for certain time periods. They are a little
hard to use online, but it will definitely save time.
4) Click on what you want and Tombo.pt links you to the book on the CCA
site.

This is amazing how do you do this? I’m finding that I don’t know where to

 Priscilla,

I checked your results on Family Tree DNA. You have no tree up for your
matches to look at. You really need a tree up so the Parental Matching
 feature can be activated.

If your parents are alive, talk them into DNA testing. If any of your
grandparents are alive, talk them into DNA testing. The more relatives that
you test, the more that we "stack the deck" in your favor. I don't know
what the Portuguese expression for that would be.

Your matches seem to indicate that you have both Vila Franca lines and
Ribeira Quente lines. You need to get those sorted out. What you start
working with what you know, the unknown will start to come into focus.

I don't know who your comment was directed towards. We have 2000 or so
people on this list. To find out if the person is matching you on FTDNA,
just run their first name or their last name through the search box and
 take a look.

I will be on Sao Miguel in July and can meet up with you and show you
how to maximize your results on FTDNA. You'll need your tree up. Make a
Gedcom from your genealogy software program and upload it to FTDNA. Thanks,

2018-05-17 Thread Cheri Mello
Hi Priscilla,

Yes, you can make a Gedcom. Go out on the Internet and type: gedcom
ancestry.com OR gedcom myheritage.com

You will find links on how to make a Gedcom. Once you make it, save it
somewhere, like your Desktop. Then log into FTDNA. Click on your My Family
Tree button and upload it there (it will tell you that you are going to
override what is there, which is nothing). If you have problems, send me
the file and I will upload it for you.

Yay, you got your great-grandmother's DNA! That is wonderful! Be sure to
add her to the Azores DNA Project. We will be able to active the Parental
Matching. Over time, get any of your living grandparents and your parents
too. It helps "stack the deck" in your favor.

This is your lucky day. They appeared in Vila Franca index. In the marriage

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Raleza, Antonio Soares

2018-05-17 Thread Cheri Mello

I will be on Sao Miguel in July and can meet up with you and show you how
to maximize your results on FTDNA. You'll need your tree up. Make a Gedcom
from your genealogy software program and upload it to FTDNA. Thanks, Cheri
Mello, Family Tree DNA Admin (volunteer), Azores DNA Project

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Raleza, Antonio Soares

2018-05-08 Thread Cheri Mello
Hi Priscilla,

You can transfer your AncestryDNA to Family Tree DNA (FTDNA). The Azores
DNA Project is on FTDNA. The transfer and all your matches are free. The
ethnicity estimates and other tools are $19 USD.

I don't know which company you used for your great-grandmother's sister. If
it is a company that uses saliva, it may be hard for her to make enough.
The swab test (FTDNA and My Heritage uses) is much easier. It's a big Q-tip
inside of the cheek!

There's a cluster of matches from Vila Franca do Campo starting to form in
the Azores DNA Project over on FTDNA.

Sorry, I didn't address your question completely,

This site is in laymen's terms is the index site for the Archives.

There's a *basic* search option

http://www.arquivos.azores.gov.pt/

And an *advanced* option which is in English

http://www.arquivos.azores.gov.pt/search

Search

In this page you can locate and retrieve existing documents in the Archive.
The page is divided in two sections: basic filters - destined to the casual
user with few knowledge about the structure of descriptive information data
and advanced filters - where it can combine different possibilities and
search criteria.
Basic filters

In the "basic filters" section the user may select the search terms and/or
the documents production dates. The option "inclusive dates" allows search
records whose dates are in the defined extreme dates in the search
criteria. You may also indicate if you only want to search records with
associated digital representations, meaning only to show the documents
which digital version can be consulted online through the Web.

Fernando,

Is it possible that the Raleza surname was originally an alcunha and that
the spelling has changed? The word "realeza" means "royalty" in both
Portuguese and Spanish. Maybe one of Mr. Soares' ancestors was a descendant
of royalty, or acted as if he was. Just a guess.
