Hi Mike,

This can be done but it's really tricky if you are a novice at technical
stuff. I too have the same problem, I can't play any videos in winamp.
Somehow, the idea of playing videos in winamp does not appeal to me either.
However, winamp is my best music player and organizer. I would recommend you
to use VLC media player instead for any video formats. You can obtain VLC
media for free from the site: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

If you are not comfortable with that follow this link for instructions on
how to make winamp play your video files (not personally tried this though):

The version of Adobe reader is 10 point something. By the way, thanks, Mike,

the step by step fix. Anyway, I went to secutity enhanced thing in the tree

When I arrowed down to it, it said, Security Enhanced, like it was the title,
not
a check box. The only check box I found was, the second one, enabling web,
whatever it was. I unchecked that. I went to update in the help and it said it
was updated. Another message from someone else said something Adobe 11.

Alt + V to invoke view menu, arrow down to sort by submenu, right arrow to
invoke it, arrow up to and make sure ascending and name are checked, and

Does the screen reader that Mac uses, work better than jaws, or is just as

I also know, it's natural for one to defend their choice for things, but

Well, to say it's better is not a fair statement. Voice over, the screen
reader for the mac is very good! But it all depends on your preference.
I've been using a mac for about 2 months, and love it. The only down fall
for me is the internet
But that's all suppose to change with the release of lion today is suppose
to take care of all of that. With letter navigation on the web, and the
launch pad on the doc. I run windows virtually on my mac, but only do
that so I can still use the Microsoft suite, but use my mac for everything
else. I use my mac cold turkey for the first month so I could get use to
it all at once without trying to jump to windows when I got frustrated
with the mac. But I am not sorry I made the switch. The difference
between voice over and jaws is night and day. Voice over is a great
alternative, and will be equal to jaws one day, but in my opinion, it's
not quite there yet. Good luck

David, as per usual, you hit the nail on the head.
So I'm assuming things worked out for him.
As I indicated,
Choosing small or large icons, eather one will work.

It really depends on the user,
Some folks with vision may want to see the icons,
Myself, I prefer to choose small icons,

Hello Jim;

Regarding your question on Microsoft outlook not
Completing email addresses;
Try the following;

When you create new message,
You now type in the person's email address, and you hear no response from
jaws,
Use the keystroke ctrl+k,
This will bring up a list of your contacts which begin with the first
letter

of addresses for example;

If you were writing me an email, you would type davi,if outlook doesn't
complete the email address, ctrl+k will bring up a list which start with
the

letter d.

Hope this helps some.

Hi Jim,

Below are some notes that I have saved on your issue just in case I got
the

nerve to graduate to Windows7.

From: Ann Byrne
This is from Inthane's grab bag of windows 7 amazing things:

tentive instructions:
go into control panel, tab to appearances and personalization, and
enter on it.
now tab to task bar and start menu. and enter on it.
now control tab to start menu tab, go to customize, scroll down to
control panel, and instead of
display as a link check display as a menu. You will get a list of
control menu items.
Ann

From: Ann byrne
Here's another explanation, also from Inthane.

You can set it to show as a menu. Here's how to do it:
1. Press alt+enter on anywhere but the desktop. Try the start button.
2. Ctrl+tab to the start menu page and click the customize button.
3. Down arrow to Control Panel, make sure it is opened, down arrow to
display as menu, press space to turn it on, tab to ok button and
activate it.
Hope this helps.

I do not think it is possible to view the Control Panel as a list in
Windows 7. It is possible to view it as a grid of icons. At least in
this view, first letter navigation works.

Do the following:

1. Open the Control Panel.

2. Press Control + e, to get to the Search box.

3. Tab once to what is labeled the Category button.

4. Press Space on this button. It is actually a drop down list. Arrow
down to Large icons, and press Enter.

Hope this is what you are looking for.
*Don Marang*

From: tim
z200...@gmail.com
Yes, you just check list in view menu and its the same in folder
options. They did add a few more to the view tab menu list, but still
doable.
Tim

Hope these notes help fix your problem. Take care.

get to the list of messages. Once there, I can read them, but why doesn't
outlook go directly to my unread messages and read them? I have the read option
set to on. the reading pain is set to off. I have to tab over past research
inquiry etc. to get to my list of messages. In the past, I have been able to
just go to a folder, and hit enter, and the messages would appear.
On this computer, I have office 2007, which includes outlook 2007, on a windows
home premium with Jaws 12, latest update. Jim

Re: [Blind-Computing] items in system tray

2011-06-19 Thread jim rawls

Pam, try this.
1. go to your start menu, and hit escape.
2. now tab over to your task bar, and hit alt, enter.
3. Now, you are in the properties menu, and you should go to customize.
4. Now, tab through the items listed there, and one of them will be
Microsoft security essentials. It says something like, Microsoft interface
client or something like that. Now, by every item, there are 3 boxes. the
top one tells you to show notifications. Make sure that any item you want in
the system tray is in that check box. Tab over to ok and I think you will
have what you want. Jim

Hello there. After all the items there should be a checkbox that says show
all items. It has been a week since I have seen the machine I did that is
like the one which you speak of. I am not totally sure exactly what it
says

but it is there. Just tab past through all the other stuff.

2011-06-06 Thread jim rawls

Hi All,
First of all, I don't seem to be able to write to this list, unless I reply
to someone and change the subject line. Why is that?
Secondly, I am using my sighted wife's computer, and displays are slightly
different than mine.
Thirdly, last Friday Evening, I turned on my computer, and rollback was on
it. I never downloaded the program, and have no idea how it got there.
Anyway, it froze my computer completely.. I could do absolutely nothing. So
we used the restore disks from Sony. The program now has windows on it,but
nothing works. I used narrator, and all it says, is right arrow, left arrow,
etc. I wanted to get on the net, so Sony could tandem with me,and perhaps
fix the darn thing. I can't even get on the net. My wife is having surgery
tomorrow, and she won't be able to drive for awhile, so I will use this, till
we get mine working again. Anyone have ideas on what I might do to get
it working? It is a Sony Vaio laptop. And, it's wonderful, when it works.
smile. It has windows 7, on it. home premium. Jim

I assume you have gone through the process in Control Panel of setting up

[Blind-Computing] Outlook won't me send emails to my wife now.

2011-05-03 Thread jim rawls
I have outlook 2007, and am running windows 7, on a 64 bit machine, with
jaws 12, latest update.

Since yesterday, I can't send anything to my wife, and I could before. Also,
all her stuff she sends to me, ends up in the junk mail folder. What do I do
to remedy this? Jim

Hello Jim;

As I indicated in my last message, you can get the same results if you
press,
Ctrl+shift+b=book,
As you would if you press alt+t=tools, and b=book,
Just as long as you have the name only selected.

person to the list. How do I do it? I know how to set up the list, but don't
know how to add another person to it. I am running windows 7, jaws 12,
outlook 2007, on a 64 bit machine. Thanks for your help here. Jim

Janie, a category is like a group list. I have just created a new category
called, forwards. So, when I want to forward something to the group, I

put my name in the group to test it, I can't find it in my list of contacts.
What do you do to find the group you just created, and what do you do to

Jim,
Try this.
Open the address book and highlight the distribution list to which you
want

to add the member.
Press the application key and enter on Properties.
In the next window press Alt H, then T
Now arrow down the list to the name you want to add
When that name is highlighted tab to OK and press enter.
I think that will do it.
Blessings,
Tom

3, now tab until you see;

highlight the one you wish to remove and then shift+tab, to remove and

another way is;

[Blind-Computing] forms mode in jaws 12 isn't working right.

2010-09-04 Thread Jim Rawls
Hi all,
In windows live mail, which is in windows 7 of course, when I try to reply to
someone, I can't. I went to the settings center, and wanted to put forms mode
on manual. That is, I wanted it to work only when I pressed enter to make it
work. So, when I put it on manual, nothing would happen. When I have it on
automatic, forms mode comes on when it sees an edit field, and I may not want
it to come on. In other words, it won't work when I want it to work. It will
work on automatic setting, but, it works too well then. smile. so how to set it
up in jaws 12? I tried merging utilities with jaws 11, and that didn't solve
the problem. I don't know what to do. Temporarily, I have to reply to messages
in jaws 11, if I want them to work. Is anyone running windows 7 with WLM having
the same problem? I'm running windows 7 jaws 11, at this time, on a 64 bit
machine. Jim

Last night trying to set all of my lists back to normal and deleting some
emails, I had a problem where the computer froze. After the restart there
were 3 messages in the in box that I could not delete. I would get windows
live mail encountered an unexpected error. I had problems shutting down
when the message appeared. I tried everything that I could think of with
no good results I planned to call the computer manufacturer this morning.
Late last night I went on to see if my groups were reset and out of
curiosity tried to open one of these messages and got the same error. Out
of desperation I used the shift delete and got the message are you sure
that you want to permanently delete the message. When I clicked yes it was
deleted. It worked for the three messages. These messages I tried to
delete when the computer locked up. I guess that the reset had them
partially deleted causing the error. I am using win 7. I think this is
something to share if anyone ever gets an unexpected

error trying to read or delete a wlm message.

Judging from what I knew about my computer, this is what I did! But I am
not

Well, if the file says win 32 in the file extension, I would not touch

If it said like i tunes program or yahoo messager, I would uncheck the

Hi,

It might be difficult to pinpoint the actual programmes you are to stop
since most of these show their executables only.
To control start up programs, why not try a program like WinPatrol which
gives you the easy interface for managing startups and services?
Winpatrol

can be found on this mailing list Programs page and the latest version is
version 18. Its homepage is http://www.winpatrol.com. It is shareware,
but

its trial is fully functional except that you will only miss out a few
tweaking functionalities. I think it's worth its billing considering its
usefulness.

the 30 day trial is free but the full program certainly is not
it is a 3 figure number as far as i am aware
i know people that use and love it to bits but i am informed that it is
mainly for total beginners
those that can use jaws really have no need to use guide but some people
that try guide out may prefer it to jaws or windoweyes
although any reading voice has to be better than dec talk that is used
on

windoweyes
well with the exception of Microsoft Sam that is
i would like to try it myself but am hesitating as to what it can do re
my

jaws
if after 30 days the program stops working then fine
delete it and decide to buy or reject
however if it takes over the settings for jaws i may not be able to get
jaws

back as the default reader
perhaps someone can rectify this for me

Re: [Blind-Computing] deleting media player 11, ghost in the computer

2010-08-20 Thread Jim Rawls
Heather, You can't really delete media player 11. If you try to do it,
windows will roll itself back to an earlier version of windows media player.
what I would do is this.
Reinstall windows media player 11 right over what you have now. It will
install ok, and will correct the windows media player you have, and make it
ok again. I've done it before when I had XP and it works. Once you do that,
your WMP will work just fine.
You can Google the link for windows media player 11, or go to Microsoft.com
and find it. It will look at your computer and note that you have XP on it,
and all will work well when you reinstall it again. Jim

My friend installed media player 11 after he reinstalled windows xp

program files on the c drive, would that be okay? I found media player by
doing the following: start minue, control escape, r for run, c:\ for the
drive, p for program files, w for windows media player. It is on the
drive and I cant seem to get it to uninstall from the add remove programs.
I did properties and it said it was installed on August 5th at 1 PM., the
day I had my windows reinstalled. It is acting weird, ever sinse I got
it, if I play a file in the media player and close the media player, the
file still keeps going even when the media player is closed. I even look
in the tasks minue to see if it is still running somewhere, it cant find
it. So I have to reopen the file and hit control p to make it stop
playing. Or I have to take the cd out if it is playing from the cd
instead of just closing mediaplayer. I am starting to think my computer

Chris, try this.
Go to wherever the songs are stored on your computer. If they are scattered
around, put them into a folder.
Now, hit your applications key, and go down to where it says, send too.
Then, send it to your Drive.

Now, you should hear, insert a disk into the drive.
After doing that, Go to the drive and open it. The file folder you sent
should be there.
Now, hit your alt F key, and go down till you hear burn to disk. hit enter
there, and follow the prompts. Hope this helps.

Chris, try this.
Go to wherever the songs are stored on your computer. If they are
scattered

around, put them into a folder.
Now, hit your applications key, and go down to where it says, send too.
Then, send it to your Drive.
Now, you should hear, insert a disk into the drive.
After doing that, Go to the drive and open it. The file folder you sent
should be there.
Now, hit your alt F key, and go down till you hear burn to disk. hit
enter

there, and follow the prompts. Hope this helps.
Jim

Hi I'm using Windows Media Player 12 and Windows 7.

I'm confused on how to burn songs with the upgraded player. Before, I
would
copy and paste the songs I wanted to burn into the CD drive in My
computer.
Now when I try to open the CD drive folder in Windows Explorer, it won't
let
me. It asks me to insert a disc instead.

So, I guess what I'm asking is how do I now begin the process to burn a
CD?
Thanks.

Jennifer, have you tried a system restore to the day before all this
happened? That might solve the problem. Jim

Hi Listers

I'm running Windows XP Home service pack 3, and JAWS 11 with the latest
upgrade.

I was playing a game in the cd drive and the computer froze. Outlook was
still open at the time. I couldn't reset and had to hold the on/offonoff
button in until shutdown. Now I cannot open Outlook. The message I get
is that Windows cannot open outlook. I've run Microsoft Diagnostic with
no problems found and still cannot open Outlook. Can someone help?
