[BlindHandyMan] worm container

2010-07-20 Thread Geno
So why don't you instead of using what you want... Use a small tuna fish can
or something like it and pour some cheap beer into it. That being no pet of
your own in the yard. The grubs and slugs love it and get in it and die!!

I don't know about the worm container inside, but, bought a small box of 200
night crawlers for my back then New yard and each time I build a new raised
bed, buy a box of night crawlers and my son Erik was totally surprised at
the number of worms I have almost anywhere in my raised beds and lawn!! I
have different spots in each of the large beds and the smaller beds where I
bury the coffee grounds that are used and their coffee filters!! The lawn I
just save a container and when full spread all over the good size lawn!! I
don't want anything crawling around in my home!

[BlindHandyMan] Snowblower?

2010-03-01 Thread Geno
Bill, I would agree with you! Though there has not been much of a need for
my snow blower this year. I use it all the time!!
The first one that I learned on to do my 75 foot incline driveway,
black-topped and the 120 feet of brick sidewalk was a Snow King, it was a 18
horse power and large cage for grinding snow. With the four gears forward
and 2 reverse, a crank for changing the direction of the snow to fly. Along
with a set of half rubber half tracks instead of wheels! After 14 years of
wonderful work I retired it to my son's, Erik, for him to help his Mother
and her country home. I bought this year a Snapper 18 HP a little different
but after three times of one the shop buying from and twice my son Norman I
grasp all the controls on the panel between the handles. Yet as said, sadly,
we have only received to this date 48 inches of snow. Where normally we
would be up to 6 feet of snow for the season. So the snow blower only used
twice. So the only thing I would say if a person has a problem with
direction, might have an issue. The other is with the electric ones? It
would be a way to keep track of that cord!!

[BlindHandyMan] clearing driveway

2010-01-19 Thread Geno
This is amazing to me price you speak of $150 to plow a driveway. I don't
know what my brother pays in the Hudson outer area, but up here my driveway
that is normal width, 65 feet and inclined up to the garage, if plowed, it
was priced at $50 to $60. Then if removed.. Well, we won't go there as one
might have a heart attack. So I've had a snow king for 15 years and retired
it with it's wonderful rubber cleat half tracks. I now own another new equal
to the snow king (called the Snapper) and 18 horse power and love it too.
Except when it did not work yesterday, after the 13 inches of snow. Come to
find out a defected gas cap. But, as of today it is all good as he came to
the house and looked over and replaced the gas cap. Along with a little
silicone on the cables for the turning of the shot and the top part of the
shoot for further distance. Oh yes shoveling ones driveway or sidewalk?
Starting is $15 to $30. So I just do all the work as a team with my son. I
still use the snow blower.

[BlindHandyMan] Blocking the wind.

2010-01-11 Thread Geno
I am thinking that Dale might be able to give a better answer to this. But:
I go to Home Depot or the other big large hardware store, The foam comes in
large 4 by 8 sheets, there is this, according to my son, Norman, a silver
color to one side and a little different silver to the other side. The
sheets come in 1 inch all the way up to 4 or 6 inches thick. So using my
tape measure measuring off from, in my case Black-top that I originally
black-topped around the back of the house - foundation out 10 feet into the
back yard area. This is where the Deck was built over that service and the
Sun-room was installed on the deck. So on the south end 10.2 feet across I
measured the deck to the black-top and just a little extra, then slid into
place with the deck frame. As on the North end the same thing. Now with
this metal they are used for many different things, I was told, they come 14
inches in depth and 2 feet across, fitted them into place and underneath the
flashing of the sun-room down over the deck. This on the south end. Then
took Out-door silicone and sealed very good along the black-top and entire
area and each section that came together and also the flashing for a tight
seal. On the North end being the Black-top was right to the edge of the
deck. The deck a small amount to the lawn, I dug a trench and placed the
sections in. carefully sliding up underneath the flashing of the sun-room
and the rest into the ground right up to the black-top and then the out-door
silicone sealed each section and the flashing. So it is all air tight. Of
course making sure underneath was totally dry still first. In front of the
24 foot long sun-room I had placed a tarp, heavy grade, but now as said this
spring, early summer, will be digging out the rose bed, right after trimming
back the rose bushes and removing the tarp from underneath the flashing,
leave in place and put in the foam strips and the metal or tin, strips and
fasten and seal and then back with the top soil and never have to worry
about it again. I took Dales' ideas in gaining even more solar heat to the
house. I can tell you since just doing both ends and our winters in Maine,
let alone living on a peninsula, that reaches out into Casco Bay of te
Atlantic Ocean.. Well we see cold up here.. The wind chills can be well
below zero.. Especially now for January.. We call today 30/31/ a heat wave
here.. Anyway as long as there is a good quality of sun that sun-room takes
little time to heat up once the sun hits the three walls of windows!!

2010-01-11 Thread Geno
I have a sun-room over top of a wooden deck. I got tired of the cold wind
going underneath the deck. Yet also concerned of moisture build up. So did
first just foam lining of the areas (that is the sheets with a silver liner
over the foam.) After removing 2 years ago - been there for two years, Found
out nice and dry. The only thing found was Gardener snacks made a home
underneath the deck and the black-top.. Anyway Replaced with foam and then
bought light weight tin panel strips to fit the area and to go into the
ground and fasten into place on either end. Works like a charm! This spring
will dig out the back side of the Raised bed, remove the tarp and install
foam and the tin sheets in the tarp place. All I can say is what a
difference and I get lots of solar heat from the sun room now!

[BlindHandyMan] property dispute

2010-01-07 Thread Geno
I have no idea if all states and more than likely it is not the same. In
saying that I bought a two city lot and at the time according to the map
given to me It was said that the lots together were 100 feet all the way
around. This last summer a guy bought the house on one side of my back
property line. One now belonging to the Samolian Church that formerly
belonged to the Servant of the Lord, which I bought from. Then changed hands
to the root-cellar and now this Church. Well this new neighbor with his 50
feet across my back property line was making a fuss. So I said this is what
I am going to do. To which found out the map at sale was not a legal survey
map. So surprised but hired a legal city/county certified surveyor and her
team came over. After some research was done the pins were put into place.
Findings? The sides from front to back I owned 1.5 more feet on each side.
The rear fence because of the street behind and in front of the Church runs
at a bit of an angle the back line I found out that I owned 4 extra feet and
tapered down to the other side to 2.5 feet. So once the map was certified,
mapped out for me in two copies and stamped with her stamp and the
Cumberland County stamp and a legal letter and $1,500.00 and the pins in
place...
The first thing she informed me:
A: you can leave the fence where it is and the extra land in 20 years will
go to the people abutting your property. Being I've been here since, full
year, 1994 as moved here in 1993 of November. Well you can see that I needed
to do something, as the 20 years closing in. So, one fence was moved and the
rest will be moved next String/Summer.
This is another law that I did not know about. That is no structure can be
within 6 feet of the boundary line, but, a fence can be within 1 to 3 inches
of the line, it can't be on the line.
So, in some cases it is not a big deal. Yet as you can see in your
situation, as here it is a big deal. In fact the first fence moved the guy
that owned the open parking lot, I thought he was going to have a heart
attack. Yet calm down and said I guess it is legal with the map and legal
letter stamped with the proper seals. The new guy behind me with his new
fancy small home and fruit trees, my son says, is having a fit as he ran -
between him and the Church a cedar 8 foot high solid board fence and heavy
duty cedar post right up to my present fence. Yet showing him the documents
and reminding him he is the one that filed the complaint and he is the one
that all he had to do is clean up to the fence line, but, no, make a fuss.
The Church is really up-set with that much but seeing the paper work ok..
The more serious one a little concern is the drug house next door and their
very large husky shepherd guard dog and stuff piled up against the fence. So
why mess with it? Simple as Lenny 's family is or did find out and if I am
going to sell one day..

We use to be: with a nuclear plant producing: 1 cent per unit.
Then when that went off line because of age, still the water power for
electric, it went to 4 cent per unit.. Neither including the carrying fee to
the home or apartment or condo.. Nor the 7 extra taxes thrown in there.
Then we joined the New England grid to help provide a consistent flow of
Electric to New York City... Also a choice in companies as Central Maine
power was going to be switching to delivery only...
Well we are up to 18 cent per unit now, plus the delivery charge, plus the
now 8 item taxes included...
I hate humidity on all levels and thus the two energy efficient recommended
window Air Conditioners, new this year, that keeps the entire small home of
mine cool. Down stairs 74 level and the up-stairs at 70 level...
I have all the life savers bulbs and don't run them all that much.. Most
people say going by the house, only one florescent 4 footer in the hallway.
As the same I have up-stairs, which run 24 hours a day. With the TV flat
screen, Son's flat screen and his game, the electric stove, refrigerator
that run the most. The computer the only time the flat screen comes on if I
need my son's eye sight 98% of the time just the tower for the day and shut
down at night. Then add in the air conditioners... Whether just the fan most
of the time or the unit kicking in... This time of the year or during the
heating season.. I have yet to see my bill now drop below $125 per month
Times are a changing I know and I ask them why the delivery rate adjustable
to the cost of the units used. "That is just the way it is to keep the lines
in top shape." is the answer.. The taxes? That is Maine..
Those are on all utilities up here..
Yet, I would not give up living where I am living here!!
Just bear and living with the cost..

We had a rash of these type of contractors and even those that started or

local WGAN Channel 13 for the last year has assigned a person to cover such
contractors and if necessary they will not only show video of the site, but
give out the offending contractor, a history on the contractor, and his
picture so people are aware.
Which I think is a great thing!

"...more facts, supervision belonged to her, It is all in the written

Is there such a thing as project Insurance..."
I am speaking from personal experience and I am sure there are others here
that might be part of or a contractor still...
Anyway, in this state: One of the things people are always advised of is
find a contractor with insurance on all people working for them on site.
This would include carrying a bond that if there is a issue that all one
does is go through the process.
My son's business, Stone Hill company that did lawn and gardening and small
home remodeling. I managed it and made sure He had it to go on site to show
his insurance and a certain level of a bond.
If these things are not there it falls back onto the home owner for the
damages to the working person or person's or the home.
I have learned from experience in my home and all the remodeling through
contractors, red and reread the contract to cover all that you want done and
handled.
There was one time only and that was in installing a deck and sun-room. When
digging for the cement pods and sunk down below the frost level. It was in
the contract, my request, remove the said gravel/dirt off site. This was not
done and stopped them from continuing to build the deck over top of the
black-top and the gravel and dirt. The manager or boss man came by and I
showed him the contract. Needless to say, though unhappy, they had and did
remove all said gravel and dirt to what the surface was.
There is another issue and that is if it was a fly by the night contractor
or some call Gypsies contractors. Fancy looking contract with no meat and
potatoes.
Good luck with the fight

[BlindHandyMan] ME. Gardening/Built

2009-05-05 Thread Geno
On topic as built another raised bed. 4.5 feet in width, 10 feet long and
the height above ground is 3.5 feet. With the use of landscaping timbers,
12.5 spike nails. The only thing my son Norman made sure was the marking for
the proper length before using my woodsman medium size saw. Along with
making sure Dad was on straight line cutting! Just used a 5 pounder hammer
in nailing down the spikes. Which he assisted in after Dad's arms got a
little tired at nailing.
The area was picked out where this was going to go. Then spade shovel and
digging up that area of the lawn. The sod off to the side, as there was,
areas of the lawn that could use some of it. The rest was pounded by hand
till all the top-soil was removed into the box. Then moving it around after
the frame was set into place and worked the top-soil back till down to the
gravel base. Which is only 14 inches down. Lined the bottom, across the
gravel, with card-board and newspapers on one side and sifted and made sure
all roots and etc were out of the soil on top of the card-board and
newspapers. Then repeat to the other side and move the top-soil over equally
across the entire bottom. Added in some nice rich cow manure, thin layer. I
also ordered, thinking 4 yards is not too much, of Compost soil. Delivered
and dropped into the top half of my black-top driveway, by the garage. So
with buckets my son and I gradually working over the compost soil and doing
layering of it and cow manure and compress packing. Finally topping it off.
So it is ready now for planting. Realizing what we had for a load of compost
soil? Well, went around the entire lawn and spread a thin layer over the
entire open lawn. We have an interesting neighborhood and being I paid $156
for the load, the rest filled the center of the garage floor. I am going to
Wal-Mart Store and getting two large Rubbermaid bins. These are very good
size and great storage bins. So will fill two of them up and compress pack
the compost soil into the two bins and cover them for little projects here
and there. A friend of mine has a pick-up truck. So I decided being my
gardening place is a little drive and I usually have them just deliver at a
cost. I'd do a little bartering with the price of gas and the truck. The
soil that is left over? Well, he has a 6 foot bed and if I had to guess the
rest of the soil that is left that it would fill a 3 foot area and right up
to the top of the frame of the bed easy. So called my buddy Lance and he
said, sure! My wife needs some good soil for her flower bed, you, got a
deal! So now I can have my garage back and still have enough of the compost
soil in two storage bins for little projects later!
So, that is my little project of building.

Can't make it clear or loud enough!! Unless you have someone that knows what

Here in the city of Portland in Apartment buildings and homes, we have lots
last winter 4 homes and 3 badly apartment buildings. This year and not all
that long ago being winter is just beginning here. Already 6 chimney fires,
two small houses burned to the ground, One Apartment, this one across the

for a smart alert young man no one was burned, hurt, or died.
I am asking and not begging but pleading with you, DON'T do what you are

[BlindHandyMan] brice: home structures

2006-11-29 Thread Geno
brice,
The answer is no. There is very few of these homes left in the city. The
larger homes have been revamped and modified to Condo's along the entire
Eastern Prom Street, One side of the street is the Large what was Colonial
or Victorian homes now condo's with decks and the other side is the tip of
the peninsula and that is the Eastern Prom Park. Our city is known for the
number of parks we have.
Almost all homes have been bought up and converted to Apartments for low
income or middle class or Upper class. Here on the hill they have been the
last 4 years converting large Victorian and Colonial Three stories into
Condo's adding Decks to each level.
Their is One that was an old brick Fire House and that a two story that was
converted to Condo's and even added another level to it. In what they call
the old Port area use to be large factories and some have been converted to
Apartments and some to condo's. The Normal for the large buildings Three
story and the highest building in Portland, 14 stories. Those are all flat
roof's.
There are still some smaller houses like mine around.
I could never understand, considering normal winters here, Flat roofs.
Just across the street They are converting an apartment building, after a
serious fire. The three story Narrow 15 by 80 feet long. Flat roof and three
stories. Turning into condo's.
Odd? Well the gentleman paid $450,000.00 for the building and that is the
lot size and no parking. This was two summers ago. Making $1,000.00 per
floor from HUD. HUD would not resign with them and So, because of the damage
of the fire it was tear it down and if so can not rebuild. Empty lot. Take
what he had and add with new. He took the last and had to gut the entire
building and then meet the new codes of 2006 by laws for buildings now.
Here each floor first second up half bath and first full bath. Either end is
the kitchen. It fits my needs and fell in love with the size.
You guys on the handy man list helped a lot in the remodeling that I've done
over the years separate of the contractor.

[BlindHandyMan] gutter guards

2006-11-29 Thread Geno
brice,
First off let myself start out. Here on the peninsula of Portland Maine. Has
a unique history. First that one has to drive up the hill to get to the
peninsula from several different streets. Second is that Portland Suffered
three major fires through it's history and we were known as Tent City here
in this area. some of the homes from the last fire were brought back to life
and mine was one of them. So that puts my home at the age of 173 of the
style back then for single family homes. They were simple and to the point.
First off the house has a rock foundation with the older style cement to
hold it all together. After the last fire the house was raised from a four
foot basement to a 8 foot basement with cement blocks. Then the house was
lowered down to the cement blocks. When, I obtained the home It was a
preachers home and lacked for care. So, talk to a few people for remodeling
the entire home and garage. As, well as turning the rest of the two city lot
from a gravel parking lot to trees, gardens and lawns. The style home they
gave it's name back then was a New-England Salt box. The house is 14.5 feet
in width and 45 feet long. The roof (easy to describe it) is A Frame has a
very steep pitch. So, The previous people only lived on the first floor and
that was limited area. given the width and length. So, in remodeling, with
the big beams. Over the years All of the walls were torn down and replaced
the two by fours and as going all the wiring to meet all the new codes.
Along with better insulation and sheetrock.
The Attic, was well turned into what was surprising a wonderful, in my
opinion , 3 bedrooms while the boys were growing up and one now my office.
Which has a very large sky-light window that can swing 180 degrees so easy
for fire escape if needed.
The other thing that is unique about this house because it sites at the end
of Turner street. That use to come across Merrill Street and what is now my
driveway and Garage. Anyway, Turner is a straight down run to Casco Bay.
That means on a windy day, some strong some mild, which is almost every day
here on the peninsula.. The house is sitting at a slight angle so when the
wind hits the house especially the A frame roof, it is deflected off easy
and can handle all the winds that we have seen to this point. That being the
highest so far of 73.5 mph. Because of that too. I was fortunate that living
next to myself was a man of early 70's then and lots of experience in his
trade of building homes. So, In listening to him talk. I Knew he was the man
to take and pick out the proper shingles and direct the two young guys for
installing them correctly. I've been here since 1993 and the new roof
shingles and sky-light was installed in 1994 of July. To this date there is
very little and mean little wear to the shingles With all the beating the
wind and rains and snow... Now for the height of the house. With the amount
of the foundation that is sticking above ground and to the trim of the
roof/eve is fifty maybe a little less maybe 48 but some where in that area.
The peak of the A, I would not have a clue. As, I was looking through my
hard drive on my folder "Home-Repairs" and I seen nothing for the peak
height of the A. If I had to and second thought I would not guess. I say The
second floor is 8 foot ceilings and above that there is a far crawl space.
As, discussed on this group, the Sun-room was added, guessing now 3 years
ago. Which I've been keeping track and It has been a very good energy saver.
Yes, what you speak of in birds that can be an issue. But every so often the
cat population gets a little out of control and well then the bird situation
disappears for a year or two.
Sorry to run on. I am thinking that if the market ever turns around again to
the interest rates drop into the low 4.5 like this mortgage is, that I'd
like to jack the house and yank out the entire foundation and install a
complete new cement foundation. This would mean raising the sun-room and
digging out the driveway black-top underneath it for a larger basement.
Difference? So it is raised, I can have a slight angle to the cement
sidewalk from the front side walk to the front entrance and good size
sliding windows, developed for cold and wind, for the front. Then the
basement would be the first floor with kitchen, dining, Full size bathroom,
Living-room and furnace/Boiler and the water and sewage line and the water
line. Then the second would be two bedrooms and.. With a Bathroom and the A
Frame roof would be the loft. Yet, that is a dream.

and brush. The brush that I found the best? the same kind used for toilet
bowls (Stiff Bristle) and kept in the garage . All my tools have set places
and easy to find.
On the garage and the front of the house. I have the heavy duty plastic
gutters and the guards that either can be snapped in or slide in while the
sections are apart. These, guards are with small dime size holes in it. For
the most part they work in keeping a lot of leaves out of them. The problem
is the city has planted crab apple trees and the blossom's sometimes get
through the holes and or on a strong windy day I have to check for broken
branches stuck in them. With the use of a good extension ladder and first
time out a sited person giving a hand. Since then I put them up myself and
take them down myself.
It is a easy being careful thing to do to snap them into place and unsnap
them and take them down. Warm day! I've learned it is a lot tougher putting
them up on a cold day. The front of the house is 50 feet up and the garage
area a good size step ladder works fine!
Some people ask why I take them down. Well, here in the Northeast, one never
knows what the weather is going to be. Like this year can be lots of rain
and freezing rain. Causing a lot of ice and that is a lot of weight. The
other is the snow build up and it's weight. The last thing if left there,
I've seen work under the shingles and eve of that area and do a lot of
damage. So, for myself, I don't mind going up and taking them down. That is
why I went with the heavy duty plastic gutters, their covers and the
snaps/hook to fasten into place and their connectors. I've been doing this
with the same gutters since 1995 with no issues.

[BlindHandyMan] Lennox Boilers/Furnace?

2006-10-26 Thread Geno
October 26, 2006 sent at: 11:09 AM EST
Though I, have had, my boiler/furnace Natural Gas Forced Hot Water unit,
checked out. It is now 18 years old. I thought it would be smart in
investigating other units for that possibility of replacing.
I seem to remember some talking of the Lennox brand.
So I was wondering if any have the Lennox Boiler/furnace Forced Hot Water
unit and their thoughts on it.
Thanks in advance.

the color you wanted? Of course how long would it hold up to the sun rays?

If you don't mind getting the hands a little dirty and don't mind touching
the worms. a bucket of sort to put the worms in. Using the bare hands pick
up a clump of dirt and sift through the fingers and put the worms in the
bucket. If you have some old leaves put them in the bucket first and then
the worms. Then, when you have the entire cooler sifted of the worms you
can change the soil if that is your need.
Then, add in the leaves and the worms back into your little worm farm
cooler.
If you have cool temperature now you may find a lot of worms wrapped in a
ball. Don't bother to separate them! Unless the need to create another
container.
Another tid bit? They love used coffee grounds!

[BlindHandyMan] electric: Hot water heater

Richard,
I am guessing as Dale has kindly suggested. Especially that you have mention
electric hot water unit.
I would do a test on both heating rods. Guessing the bottom one is showing
wear. Do you do a yearly empty the water tank to keep the cramp out of the
bottom of the tank? I learned that in my other home I use to have. As, here
in the city with a Boiler that handles my hot water and forced hot water
heat. The pipes need to be cleaned
I am not a plumber or want to mess with a Natural Gas boiler, so every two
years, I have this Guy Jeff come over and go through my entire system.

[BlindHandyMan] Neighbor's Pets

2006-09-26 Thread Geno
Haille said:
"I have a front porch that extends the length of my house and 4 columns to
support the roof overhang which I suspect that is why my neighbor's cats
like to laze away the day on my bench on this porch and they have a dog too
who likes to run back and forth in between the little bushes that sits in a
row in front of the bench on the porch. I have asked my neighbor to better
monitor her pets she works all day and leaves them outside to roam the
neighborhood so my question is how can I rid myself of these pests. I like
animals but just not unwanted ones.."
Geno: Haille, If you don't have a fence to enclose the property. You might
want to think of. This will take care of the dog or dogs. Yet, will not
solve the problem of the cats. As, if there is a way and there is they will
be there. As, I had to install a Chain-link fence three sides of the double
lot is 5 feet tall and the front is 4 and even had to go to the extent of
gating the front entrance and the driveway. It solved the problem of the
dogs coming in and doing their business. But the cats forget it. Though, my
guide dog does a far job of keeping them out when he is out side. Still have
to deal with their messes.
I have heard of dog and cat repellent but no nothing of it.
Maybe someone else does?
Good luck on the nice neighbors!

[BlindHandyMan] crack in new concrete driveway

2006-09-02 Thread Geno
As Dale noted and also the advice of Cliff if he has the same is all good.
My comments below Re-Dales again:
"Concrete will crack unless it is designed with stress or slip joints in it.
It is very rigid and brittle. You can fill it with rebar, fiber and what
ever else but any subsidence in the ground and you will have a crack if it
is any size at all.

Just covering the ground with a slab of concrete will keep water from
getting to the soil below and the ground will shrink away allowing the
concrete to subside and crack.

I doubt ;you will have any satisfaction from the contractor but you could
try.

When a large expanse is poured the answer is to do it in blocks or to cut
cracks into it after it has set up.

At this point you might back cut the crack, clean the crack thoroughly then
force expanding concrete into the crack. Once it has set you should then get
a circular saw with a really good abrasive wheel in it and then cut fairly
deep grooves at intervals the width of the driveway. You should probably
also cut some lengthways too so that none of the surface is much over two
feet without a relief crack cut into it.

Up here we have a really big problem because including water in the soil,
that water expands when frozen and concrete tends to walk all over the yard.

Good compaction of well draining sand and gravel as a sub-base helps a lot
but cement just cracks.

Asphalt and tarmac tends to be a little more forgiving particularly if it is
continuously rolled as happens on a road or highway. The very action of
traffic, though it wears the surface also keeps it moving. This is why it
persists in better condition on the road than on a parking lot or driveway.
It too cracks on a driveway though.

You could just fill the crack with a tar product to help keep grass and weed
from growing up through it

Otherwise, it is probably pull up the cement and begin again."
I am guessing by Dale you are in the South.
Up-here in the top Northeast, Portland, Maine.
Dale's suggestion is used. The difference is in those that are long and a
little wider than a car/truck/van.. Or the really wide driveways. They first
dig completely out the area being done. I am not sure of the compact mixture
they use. Yet this mixture is used for both Black-top and Concrete
driveways.
The difference is in the concrete driveways they put a good layer of sand.
If I remember correctly with a friend of mine. It was 12 inches of sand.
Sorry I can't remember the thickness. But the long and wide driveways they
did as Dale suggested in reinforcement in it. The other was they did it in
sections of blocks.
I am guessing it too depends in what you have for ground there if clay,
sand, gravel, or all good top-soil. My friend's driveway has been there for
4 years and other than a little discolor because of cars/vans etc there has
been no issue.
As, suggested it all depends on what your contract said in if you can get
them to do anything.
His driveway is 250 feet long and the width of two 250 pick up trucks.
Good luck on getting it repaired.

[BlindHandyMan] Building a ramp

August 8TH: sent out at: 8:10 AM
Good luck with the project. This building two ramps.
As, I am sure Dale will jump right in! Along with the other guys that know!
My only input here would be in this would be:
A: if in a city and requires permits?
B: If the first is true and have to follow them what are their regulations
and requirements to follow?
I was going to do this exact project for the sun-room on the rear of the
main house. As right off the black-top or some call tar-max driveway. When,
I was informed what had to be done and each step had to be inspected to met
their spec's and the total cost? I said no and went with steps.

[BlindHandyMan] installing a sat-dish

2006-08-10 Thread Geno
August 8TH: sent out at: 7:59 AM
One of the most important things to look at even before setting up or
spending the money on the dish is to see what level you are receiving
satellite reception. I can't remember the level required for the least
interruptions.
This being rain storms, snow storms and etc. Or if you have a clear shot to
the Satellite to receive a clear reception. That being in the city tall
buildings and etc. or in the country Trees and etc.
When, I bought mine for the first time. I did not even think of this and was
not mention in the store. I happen to be lucky that I was on the high end
and it was great.
The down side at the time was Local TV Stations for news and etc. So, after
two years of enjoying it. I switch back to Cable and never went back, just
for the reason of Local news.
If this is no longer the issue.. Good luck and have fun!!
