Thanks,
I tried this without luck. My Boom still goes mute for no reason.
This issue seems to be unique for the Boom (at least for me).

I must say its very annoying so any suggestions on how to fix this
would be very much appreciated.

Is this only happening for me? or its a general bug?

Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping

2010-10-30 Thread Freddy

Bumping this old thread since I am having the same problem with latest
version of Squeezebox Server.

When running synchronized with a SB3 my Boom suddenly goes mute.
The Now Playing screen is still there but no sound.
To get it working again I need to go into settings and select
synchronize again.

Then it starts to play

Both players are wireless with 85% connection strength.
I´ve only had this issue with the Boom.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I am also having this problem with 6.5.4 on WHS (Tranquil T7).

I never had this problem with 6.5.1 on XP home (my laptop), so I may
try 6.5.1 on WHS.

Currently it's wired via router to the WHS, and no IP conflicts, power
cable is in solidly, output from the SB3 is via glass optical to a DAC
(ie no interference from the DAC can make it back).

2007-11-29 Thread TomC

I have had most of the problems mentioned in earlier posts (difficulty
to get the SB3 to start, disconnects, slow remote control response,
sync problems, etc.)

I changed to static IP-adress for my SB3 which is connected via WLAN.

All problems I had was solved!!!

I run 6.5.4. I have both ethernet and WLAN with 6 devices connected.
Have been running DHCP for years using the same hub/WLAN-device without
any communication problems at all. When I checked I never had any MAC or
IP-adress conflicts!

Conclusion [ witout any proof, :-) ], there is a problem with the
IP-adress management in the SB3

Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping

2007-11-25 Thread vnvjeep

I hope this helps... but I just started developing this same issue over
the weekend. The squeezebox would all of a sudden stop playing right
in the middle of a shuffled selection of MP3s or internet radio.
Sometimes the squeezebox would continue playing, but the display would
go completely black. I hit the power button, and it would say Waking
Up SlimServer... and it'd start working again. Other times, the unit
would just shut off and stop playing immediately eventhough there was a
full buffer of music. Other times, it would continue playing as the
buffer slowly but surely depleted itself and stopped playing. I would
need to physically hit the play button, and it would continue right
away, where it left off. Then even other times, it would stop for
15-30secs (sometimes longer), then continue playing again by itself
after a while. If I reset my wireless switch, things would start
working again for a little while. This was starting to drive me nuts
thinking either my wireless switch went bad, or that my squeezebox
started going bad.

I ended up determining that this was all actually due to an IP conflict
on my network. Another workstation (which hadn't been on for about 2
years) was getting booted up and had the same static IP as my
squeezebox. Once I set that machine to start using a different IP, I

To SlimDevices QA - It does not take too much effort to reproduce with
firmware 81.

Set show buffer fullness in player display options under
squeezenetwork, play any long Rhapsody playlist, and at some point the
music will stop and you will see that left hand counter keeps
increasing while the right hand counter is stuck at 0.4s or so.

To all those having this issue, I advise you to read

http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=6060

Once activated, you will see that when music stops, the decode buffer
keeps increasing while the output buffer is stuck on a very low
number.

By the way, to SlimDevices support:
For a short while the SlimDevices FAQ was replaced by the Logitech FAQ,
and some answers such as the link above were not re-incorporated into
the SlimDevices FAQ when it was reactivated.

I can reproduce this problem - VERY interimently - being connected to
SqueezeNetwork directly rather than to slimserver. This would lead me
to suspect that this is a firmware issue rather than a slimserver
issue.

There are no wireless networks around me. No wireless phones being used
close by. When I am connected to Squeezenetwork my computer is
completely turned off.

When the squeezebox stops, if I press play again, the music will
resume.

My wireless strength runs at 80% or better virtually all the time - as
in I have never seen it lower than 80%.

Whilst I have not yet completely solved my problem, I have determined
the cause - the Windows Firewall.

If I turn off the firewall the problem disappears.
If I turn it on, it re-appears.

However, I need to do some more work on this as ports 3483 and 9000
appear to be included in my exclusions list, yet turning on the
firewall causes the SB3 stop (eventually...)

Hi again.

Still have not resolved my issue after spending part of the weekend
trying to fix it up.

My problem is that the SB3 will stop playing at a song. It will then
always stop at the same point in the song.

I can only replicate this problem when running SS on Windows Home

If I run SS on my xp laptop it will play perfectly - even with three
wireless hops (WHS music share - SS on xp laptop - SB3).

Is anybody else with 'stopping problems' using Windows Server 2003 (in
particular SBS SR2 which is underneath WHS).

I have had a similar problem intermittently for the past few months with
my SB3 (sound drops out or screen goes blank). Tried everything,
including Slimserver updates and Squeezebox firmware revisions.

Finally traced the issue to the cable from the Squeezebox power supply
picking up noise from adjacent mains power leads. Re-routed the
Squeezebox power lead away from the other power leads and problem
solved.

There could be many reasons for dropping out, including some of the
other good suggestions on this post, but thought I's share my findings
in case this is the problem others are having...

Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping

2007-11-01 Thread y360

I have the same problem. When I play a Rhapsody playlist, occasionally
the SB3 stops playing mid song. Pressing forward skips to the next
track successfully. I typically use show buffer fullness and on these
occasions I always see that the left hand side is very low (like e.g.
0.4) while the left hand side shows a large number (e.g. 126.2)
I'll try to take a photo next time it happens.
So it seems to be a problem with the stream decoding in SB3 rather than
a network buffering issue. I use firmware 81.

resumes) since 6.5.1. See bug report

For each release since, the problem surfaced again and was cured by a
rollback to firmware v.67. IMHO, this is a firmware issue as the
rollback always resolves the issue.

I find I'm getting the same problem at times but I need to check it's
nothing up with the ripped tracks. I fairly certain now it isn't.
Only noticed it on one SB3 at the moment.

It's wirless running from a QNAP TS109 Pro on a Netgear DG834PN.
Signal strength never lowe than 60%.

Symptoms are that a track will be playing then sound simply stops
coming from speakers. Track progress bar continues to move and the
'Now Playing' screen saver with the twin VU bars continues to show as
if playing. Often I find that either increasing the volume (and no
these are not quiet sections of tracks), re-strating the track or
skipping to the next seems to kick it back into life.

keep playing music but only repeating like 10 seconds.

It's quite annoying and I have to recycle the power to stop it from

I thought this was because of a firmware update to 6.5.4. I reverted

Is there any tests I can try to pinpoint what the problem is? I don't

Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping

2007-10-25 Thread mik63

I have lived with this crap for a while.
I have a dedicated high performance PC for Slimserver.
The connection is wireless but we are talking about the same room and
the signal never ever goes below 80-85%.
I use a channel that nobody else is using around my house.
I have no wireless phones and the microwave is not being used when this
happens.
TV is off and there is nothing else going on!
It is clearly an issue with the buffer and I suspect related to the
firmware.
Try to put your Slimbox display to buffer fullness and just look at
it.
At a certain point, you will see the buffer emptying out for no reason;
eventually the music stops and then it tries to rebuffer; at a certain
point the buffer shows as it is full, but the box is stuck. The song
title is on the display, the buffer is full, but no music comes up.
Sometimes it just restart from the start of the song. Other times it
just crashes and reboots.
Beats me

Try to put your Slimbox display to buffer fullness and just look at

Have you posted a bug report on this? It sounds, from the limited data
set here, that the SB2 may have a problem with WiFi cnnections (I'm
assuming that's what you're using; I know that's what the other folks
have).

Since you're in the same room, have you tried a wired connection? That
would help isolate a player / format / sofware problem from one with
your network.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping

2007-10-25 Thread mik63

I have just sent a very complete description of the whole set of
problems and setup.
If the wireless signal is always at 80% or above, I do not see how
there could be a problem, unless I am exceeding the wireless bandwidth,
but I have done tests with nothing else connected.
In nay case, wired or wireless would not explain why sometimes the
whole device crashes (today at least 7 times) and reboots.
There are too many people with similar problems, so the chance that we
all have the same problem related to something else but the SB3 is
quite slim.
I think that there is something related to their IP stack and how it
handles the handshake and synchronization with the server that
sometimes goes crazy.
This would explain crashes, skips, stops and freezes.
I will post back whatever I will discover with the Logitech support
guys.

Great. No one here is saying there's no problem -- we just need to
understand what the problem is so we can track it down. Obviously, it
doesn't happen to everyone, but we'd like to fix it if we can figure it
out.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping

2007-10-25 Thread redgum

Just to update you on my troubleshooting (with thanks to Slimdevices
support) and to clarify exactly what is going on in my situation (Now
with no wireless, ethernet cable everywhere, SB3, SS6.5.4, WHS).

I setup a playlist with about 100 songs from different albums and
started playing them. Here are the results:
1. Plays, but at about song 22 stops, 33 seconds from end of song.
Pressing “play” on remote starts song again and it plays without
failing.
2. Plays, but at about song 57 stops, 2:13 from end of song. Pressing
“play” on remote starts song again and it plays without failing.
3. Plays but at about song 65 stops after 0:54. Pressing “play” on
remote starts song again and it plays until 0:54 and stops. Display
shows “Rebuffering…0%” shows as playing but has stopped.
4. Replicate this three times for this particular song.
5. Change to buffer display. Indicates buffer at 100%, still stops at
0:54 shows “Rebuffering…0%” just as it stops playing, then shows as
playing but has stopped.
6. Played around with fastforward, if I go to after 0:54 it plays ok
from there.
7. Tested the FLAC file (FLAC -T) and the file appears ok.

This is the more intersting part
8. Play the song on its own in repeat mode. First time it plays
fine, second time stops at 0:54.
9. Can replicate this. (ie plays fine first time when in repeat
mode, then stops on 2nd play.)

Hopefully this will help the Slimdevices people identify what is going
on.

Same problem for me. Just stops playing intermittently. My computer
says the signal strength is very good. I got rid of my 2.4GHz phone
recently. But there's noise everywhere. Of course I have a microwave,
but it's not running when the problem occurs. When I check available
wireless networks, there are typically 4-5 signals I can see from
neighbors. Can't do much about that.

I went to check which channel I use for my Wifi and noticed that I had
forgotten there are settings for 'Super G' and 'Super G with Turbo'
which supposedly speed up the network. I wondered if that could be a
problem and a Google search brought up a few articles about how many
technical types think these modes can increase the potential for
interference. I switched my router to standard G mode without Super G
or Turbo. We'll see if this helps!

I've had this problem (and others I've communicated with) since

6.5.2. That cured the problem for me.

My issue is that the SB2 simply stops playing - doesn't turn off,
doesn't blank the screen, simply stops playing, although if you look at
the screen, the SB2 seems to think that it is still playing, because
that is what it says. Network diaganostics are fine, no apparent
interference.

Help...

That would be fine but I am using the old fashioned CAT 5 wire of which
I have a lot running through my house. ( I have grey hair) I have
thought about connection problems but I will have the Media player
streaming the same internet radio URL ( so I can listen without
interruption) and that will not skip, pause, etc. I know that Media
player may be buffering differently but I have gone into the slim sever
setups and set the buffering way up. My slim sever is just that, a
music server on a Dell Optiplex blah blah blah 1 gig of ram and is six
months old running XP Pro. The only other service it provides is print
spooling. It is a dedicated music box. But that is a good point as I
do see on a few of the digitally supplied channels on my Comcast
service some pixelisation on the image. A call to Comcast would not be
a waste of time. Thanks.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping

2007-10-23 Thread redgum

Hi

First post from me.

I have a similar problem.
Until last weekend I was running slimserver on a laptop and connecting
wireless between my SB and slimserver with no problems at all.
At the weekend I did a clean install of slimserver to a server I have
built from new components. I downloaded the latest version of
slimserver from the slimdevices website.
The server is running Windows Home Server and appears to run fine. The
server is connected with CAT5 to the router and there is now only one
wireless hop involved from the router to the SB.
However, songs will just stop for no apparent reason. This is the same
issue as minora and Mike White. It is not the same issue as JimC, where
he gets a power off situation.
I can navigate back and select another album and it gets going again.I
am also finding that the fast forward is not working on these songs.
I can replay a song that has stopped and it will play fine. I can load
up a playlist and at some point it will stop.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this further?

Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping

2007-10-21 Thread tboileau69

I have been fighting this for about 2 months. My problems started when
I loaded up SlimServer v6.5.1. It may play for 2 hours or maybe 2
minutes. (It should play for 2 years!) It does not matter if I am on
SqueezeNetwork, SlimServer of any version, playing an internet radio
station (which I mostly do), or playing from my music library. I have
changed my home network, tried 3 different computers, and it exhibits
the same problem. The one thing I have yet to try is take my
squeezeBox to a friends house and plug it in there. Provided he will
let me now. Most times it will stop playing and perform a reboot and
other times it just pauses and I must hit the play button again. I am
beginning to suspect my SqueezeBox is malfunctioning but I am afraid to
buy a new one just to discover it is some arcane software issue. Which
I know never happens! I will be watching this thread in hopes of
finding a solution or another thing to try so I may figure this one
out.

[slim] Squeezebox stopping

2007-10-19 Thread Mike White

I have an SB 2 running slimserver 6.5.4 on Windows XP with all relevant
patches. 2.2 Ghz system with 1.2 gig memory.

I can play selections with no trouble on my wireless squeezebox, but
periodically I have the following trouble:

1) Playing a playlist will stop playing after 'X' period of time,
although the SB shows that it is still playing, just no sound out of
the speakers.

2) Pressing play will start the playlist over again (I am playing
shuffled, so it took a while to figure this out).

3) Pressing forward will result in the music resuming, although after
another 'X' (which is not the same as the first 'X' period of time, it
seems to be shorter) the sound will again go away.

4) This also happens when I am playing music from a genre, although not
as frequently. Again I am playing shuffled.

5) This does not seem to happen at all when I am using Softsqueeze 3.4,
or at the very least it appears that I am not able to reproduce it using
Softsqueeze.

To the best of my memory, I have cleared and done a complete rescan,
which has done nothing to fix this issue. As memory serves me this has
been a problem for the last two releases, but I can't swear to that.

Has anyone else seen this problem???

Mike
