I have had most of the problems mentioned in earlier posts (difficulty to get the SB3 to start, disconnects, slow remote control response, sync problems, etc.) I changed to static IP-adress for my SB3 which is connected via WLAN. All problems I had was solved!!! I run 6.5.4. I have both ethernet and WLAN with 6 devices connected. Have been running DHCP for years using the same hub/WLAN-device without any communication problems at all. When I checked I never had any MAC or IP-adress conflicts! Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping
I hope this helps... but I just started developing this same issue over the weekend. The squeezebox would all of a sudden stop playing right in the middle of a shuffled selection of MP3s or internet radio. Sometimes the squeezebox would continue playing, but the display would go completely black. I hit the power button, and it would say Waking Up SlimServer... and it'd start working again. Other times, the unit would just shut off and stop playing immediately eventhough there was a full buffer of music. Other times, it would continue playing as the buffer slowly but surely depleted itself and stopped playing. I would need to physically hit the play button, and it would continue right away, where it left off. Then even other times, it would stop for 15-30secs (sometimes longer), then continue playing again by itself after a while. If I reset my wireless switch, things would start working again for a little while. This was starting to drive me nuts thinking either my wireless switch went bad, or that my squeezebox started going bad. I ended up determining that this was all actually due to an IP conflict on my network. Another workstation (which hadn't been on for about 2 years) was getting booted up and had the same static IP as my squeezebox. I have the same problem. When I play a Rhapsody playlist, occasionally the SB3 stops playing mid song. Pressing forward skips to the next track successfully. I have just sent a very complete description of the whole set of problems and setup. If the wireless signal is always at 80% or above, I do not see how there could be a problem, unless I am exceeding the wireless bandwidth, but I have done tests with nothing else connected. In nay case, wired or wireless would not explain why sometimes the whole device crashes (today at least 7 times) and reboots. There are too many people with similar problems, so the chance that we all have the same problem related to something else but the SB3 is quite slim. I think that there is something related to their IP stack and how it handles the handshake and synchronization with the server that sometimes goes crazy. This would explain crashes, skips, stops and freezes. Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping
Just to update you on my troubleshooting (with thanks to Slimdevices support) and to clarify exactly what is going on in my situation (Now with no wireless, ethernet cable everywhere, SB3, SS6.5.4, WHS). I setup a playlist with about 100 songs from different albums and started playing them. Here are the results: 1. Plays, but at about song 22 stops, 33 seconds from end of song. Pressing play on remote starts song again and it plays without failing. 2. Plays, but at about song 57 stops, 2:13 from end of song. Pressing play on remote starts song again and it plays without failing. 3. Plays but at about song 65 stops after 0:54. Pressing play on remote starts song again and it plays until 0:54 and stops. Display shows Rebuffering 0% shows as playing but has stopped. 4. Replicate this three times for this particular song. 5. Change to buffer display. Indicates buffer at 100%, still stops at 0:54 shows Rebuffering 0% just as it stops playing, then shows as playing but has stopped. 6. Played around with fastforward, if I go to after 0:54 it plays ok from there. 7. Tested the FLAC file (FLAC -T) and the file appears ok. This is the more intersting part 8. Play the song on its own in repeat mode. First time it plays fine, second time stops at 0:54. 9. Can replicate this. (ie plays fine first time when in repeat mode, then stops on 2nd play.) Hopefully this will help the Slimdevices people identify what is going on. -- redgum redgum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13679 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39473 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping
The only change I made to my SB, before it stopped playing was to put it in a slightly higher place and away from the amp. This improved signal strength from a an average 20% (which was usually fine) to and average 50% in preparation for a party this weekend. Now I have no music. The SB displays the song to be played, along with the duration etc. - but nothing starts up. I can change menu's and select new songs, just nothing happens. Any change made on the SB are reflected in Slim. Similarly any changes made in Slim are reflected on the SB. Just stops playing intermittently. My computer says the signal strength is very good. I got rid of my 2.4GHz phone recently. But there's noise everywhere. Of course I have a microwave, but it's not running when the problem occurs. When I check available wireless networks, there are typically 4-5 signals I can see from neighbors. Can't do much about that. I went to check which channel I use for my Wifi and noticed that I had forgotten there are settings for 'Super G' and 'Super G with Turbo' which supposedly speed up the network. I wondered if that could be a problem and a Google search brought up a few articles about how many technical types think these modes can increase the potential for interference. I switched my router to standard G mode without Super G or Turbo. Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping
My issue is that the SB2 simply stops playing - doesn't turn off, doesn't blank the screen, simply stops playing, although if you look at the screen, the SB2 seems to think that it is still playing, because that is what it says. Network diaganostics are fine, no apparent interference. ( I have grey hair) I have thought about connection problems but I will have the Media player streaming the same internet radio URL ( so I can listen without interruption) and that will not skip, pause, etc. I know that Media player may be buffering differently but I have gone into the slim sever setups and set the buffering way up. My slim sever is just that, a music server on a Dell Optiplex blah blah blah 1 gig of ram and is six months old running XP Pro. The only other service it provides is print spooling. It is a dedicated music box. But that is a good point as I do see on a few of the digitally supplied channels on my Comcast service some pixelisation on the image. A call to Comcast would not be a waste of time. Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping
Hi First post from me. I have a similar problem. Until last weekend I was running slimserver on a laptop and connecting wireless between my SB and slimserver with no problems at all. At the weekend I did a clean install of slimserver to a server I have built from new components. I downloaded the latest version of slimserver from the slimdevices website. The server is running Windows Home Server and appears to run fine. The server is connected with CAT5 to the router and there is now only one wireless hop involved from the router to the SB. However, songs will just stop for no apparent reason. This is the same issue as minora and Mike White. It is not the same issue as JimC, where he gets a power off situation. I can navigate back and select another album and it gets going again.I am also finding that the fast forward is not working on these songs. I can replay a song that has stopped and it will play fine. I can load up a playlist and at some point it will stop. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this further? -- redgum redgum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13679 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39473 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Squeezebox stopping
I have been fighting this for about 2 months. My problems started when I loaded up SlimServer v6.5.1. It may play for 2 hours or maybe 2 minutes. (It should play for 2 years!) It does not matter if I am on SqueezeNetwork, SlimServer of any version, playing an internet radio station (which I mostly do), or playing from my music library. I have changed my home network, tried 3 different computers, and it exhibits the same problem. The one thing I have yet to try is take my squeezeBox to a friends house and plug it in there. Provided he will let me now. Most times it will stop playing and perform a reboot and other times it just pauses and I must hit the play button again. I am beginning to suspect my SqueezeBox is malfunctioning but I am afraid to buy a new one just to discover it is some arcane software issue. Which I know never happens! I will be watching this thread in hopes of finding a solution or another thing to try so I may figure this one out. -- tboileau69 tboileau69's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13638 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39473 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Squeezebox stopping
I have an SB 2 running slimserver 6.5.4 on Windows XP with all relevant patches. 2.2 Ghz system with 1.2 gig memory. I can play selections with no trouble on my wireless squeezebox, but periodically I have the following trouble: 1) Playing a playlist will stop playing after 'X' period of time, although the SB shows that it is still playing, just no sound out of the speakers. 2) Pressing play will start the playlist over again (I am playing shuffled, so it took a while to figure this out). 3) Pressing forward will result in the music resuming, although after another 'X' (which is not the same as the first 'X' period of time, it seems to be shorter) the sound will again go away. 4) This also happens when I am playing music from a genre, although not as frequently. Again I am playing shuffled. 5) This does not seem to happen at all when I am using Softsqueeze 3.4, or at the very least it appears that I am not able to reproduce it using Softsqueeze. To the best of my memory, I have cleared and done a complete rescan, which has done nothing to fix this issue. As memory serves me this has been a problem for the last two releases, but I can't swear to that. Has anyone else seen this problem???
