[Dx4win] CW Keying Com Port issue

2023-06-25 Thread Rick Stoneking
All,

I have DX4WIN 9.0.9 running on a Windows 10 PC which has one build in
hardware serial port which is connected to my Kenwood TS-950SD via the
Kenwood IF-232. I then have a USB 2.0 to Serial (FTDI chipset) adapter
plugged in to a USB 2.0 port (COM9) and configured DX4WIN to use COM9 for CW
keying. I built a home brew interface and it works fine but the problem
that I have is that sometime when the computer starts up, after having been
turned off, and I launch DX4WIN I get an error dialog that says "Could not
open COM9 for keying: ie_Open - device already open". At first I started
going in to File->Preferences selecting a differenc com port (non existent)
for keying and saving changes (got an error that the Com port is not
available - which was expected. I then repeating this and re-selecting COM9
and saving and no error message and DX4WIN keying works fine.

I then tried something different - when the error occurs I just do a
File->Preferences->Save Changes and Exit - WITHOUT making any changes. This
results in CW keying working fine. I then found that if I repeat this
again, save changes without changing anything I will get the 'already open'
error. Every other time I save changes I get the error. And this happens
even when NO changes are made, just open preferences and immediately tell
DX4WIN to save preferences.

This is not a big deal but it is annoying and I am hoping someone out there
has a solution.

Thanks

Rick

Re: [Dx4win] CW keying in DX4WIN

2013-06-15 Thread Joe Subich, W4TV

See the example configuration for DX4Win and MK II in Router (Help
| Download Documents) or on-line www.microHAM-USA.com/support.html
in the microKEYER II area.

In all probability you are setting DTR = High in the radio set-up
and telling Router to use the same port for CW and Radio. Follow
the WinKey settings in the example.

Re: [Dx4win] CW keying via USB?

2013-01-05 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
DX4WIN can key to COM or LPT port only. If you are trying to do this
through USB, then you will need a USB-to-COM or USB-to-LPT adapter
cable (hardware). Those built using the FTDI chipset seem to work
best.

Re: [Dx4win] CW Keying

2011-08-11 Thread Kostas Stamatis
According help
cw keying is on pin 1 and pin 17
ptt 16 and 18 (only used when a ptt delay value exists)
Radio 2 is on pin 14 and pin 18
So it should work.
Sorry i have not tested an Lpt port.
Have you run the lptdriver.exe?
It is in dx4w805>drivers directory.
Also under file>preferences>control there is a box called reverse 1/2. It is
for changing radios but like an idea check and uncheck this also. Maybe a
bug there? Just thoughts

[Dx4win] CW Keying

2011-08-09 Thread Dennis Andrews, F5VHY
I find the following a bit difficult to believe - but it seems to be the case!

After many years as a DX4win user - starting with v4 but currently on v7, I
decided to try CW keying from the program using LPT and the same connecting
interface as used for Wintest and other programs - i.e. pin 16 for PTT and pin
17 for keying.

It didn't work with the TX seeming to be permanently keyed while the message
was being sent. However, trying it on v4, v5 or v6, it works OK. A little more
investigation shows that pin16 and pin17 seem to be reversed from v7 onwards -
the same happens with v8.

I notice that the reflector shows many problems with CW keying but no apparent
resolutions.

Is it really the case that the pin drivers were reversed at v7 but never
corrected?

Dennis - F5VHY.

[Dx4win] CW keying issue v8.03

2010-02-01 Thread Alexander Popov
I have the same problem here. I am using v8.03, Windows XP, SP3 , USB
interface RigExpert Tiny, virtuale: COM1 - CAT; COM2, PTT delay 0, DTR =
CW keying, RTS = PTT. When I start a CW keyboard message the FT1000MP locks
on key down. Changes and values DTR and RTS do not give positive result.
Ver 8.02 with the specified adjustments - CW works perfectly (CW device type
DX4WIN - not WinKey)

Maybe someone with the problem can try this to tell me if it works (it
worked in one of my friends).
Do a right click on dx4win icon and in properties choose to run it always as

I wonder if XP users with the problem have administrator rights?

Mel,

I did a ton of testing off-list with Guy, Paul, and Jim and reported
pretty much all of the info that you've mentioned, as well as doing
low-level traces showing the actual calls to the OS to manipulate the
status of the control lines.. As Guy said, the tough part is that
neither Guy nor Paul can reproduce the issue which makes it difficult to
troubleshoot. I don't want to flood the list with reports, but I do
agree that it would make sense for folks who are having the issue to
report in so that maybe some kind of pattern can be found.

Re: [Dx4win] CW keying issue?

2010-01-04 Thread Yann
Hello

I have also the same problem : locks on key down (cw via virtual serial
ports)
Equipement here :

Windows XP SP3
micro keyer II
Icom 7700

All work on 8.02 but not on 8.03

Hi Ian,
The discussion did not end behind screen but the biggest problem
Is that we (Paul and myself) can not duplicate the problem.
Paul has tested on W7 and couldn´t reproduce the problem, CW and PTT are
working ok
I have tested with real comports, microKEYERII with virtual ports and also
USB to serial(brand is Gembird)
on the following systems.
Vista home laptop (no real serials) with USB to Serial with FT920
(cat+cw+ptt) all ok
Vista Ultimate Quad PC (6 real serials, 3LPT ports, 10 virtual serial
ports(MKII) and 2 USB to Serial
Tested all possibilities out one by one and all is acting OK
EEEPC1000H XPHOME SP3 (no real serials) with USB to Serial to FT920
(cat+cw+ptt) all ok
Also tested with 10 virtual serial ports(MKII) to IC7800 and all is working
OK.

So I hope you understand that this is hard to find out what is going wrong
since Paul didn´t change anything to this part of the software, he only
added a protection
when the comport is not there or changed when the program is running to a
port that does not exist

Re: [Dx4win] CW keying issue?

2010-01-04 Thread Mel
Perhaps all having this issue could report EXACT details about OS
hardware and drivers being used as well as version numbers if possible.
Even information about the MB and BIOS might help find a common thread.
It's one of those times where pedantic detail is called for. I have
tried it on 2 computers with 2 OS's without issue. I have others if I
knew what we are looking for.

BTW, just for general interest, this is why most commercial enterprises
try to standardize their computer assets as much as possible. Tracking
down hardware dependent issues can be time consuming!

[Dx4win] CW keying issue?

2010-01-03 Thread Ian Trusson
I have been following the "CW Keying Issue" thread in the archive, but the
thread seemed to come to an end on 28 Dec 2009 without a resolution.

I have the same problem here. I am using v8.03, Windows 7, USB to serial
converter, COM1, PTT delay 1, DTR = CW keying, RTS = PTT. When I start a CW
keyboard message the FT1000MP locks on key down.

Is there any more info on this problem?

Re: [Dx4win] CW keying issue? Anyone?

2009-12-28 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK
Just as a follow-up, I switched the keying from COM3, which is on an
added-on card to COM1, which is the serial port located on the
motherboard (on the off chance there was something odd about the serial
port drivers) and unfortunately it made no difference.

[Dx4win] CW keying issue? Anyone?

2009-12-28 Thread David, K2DBK
So has anyone else got any thoughts about the issue with CW keying
locking up in version 8.03? As I posted to this list, I've tried
literally every combination of using CW Keying & PTT on both DTR and RTS
with no luck. I've tried a completely clean install on the same computer
with the same issue. (Specifically, sending any CW results is the rig
going into xmit and staying there, until I either exit D4W or go into CW
setup and select then de-select Tune). The only test that I haven't done
yet will be to move to a different COM port. (The problem is that if
that works, I need to reconfigure all the other software that I use.)

This works perfectly using version 8.02 (and prior) using the exact same
hardware configuration. I've verified the the keying setup continues to
work with programs that it worked with before I went to 8.03, and even
added a couple of new programs recently just as a test which all work
fine. (DTR on COM3 to be used for CW keying. I normally don't use PTT at
all since I run QSK, but it doesn't seem to matter whether I have PTT
configured or not.)

I'm temporarily using CWType (a 3rd party program) to send CW from the
keyboard, but I'd really like to have the functionality back. I know
that I'm not the only one complaining, and I do know this can be a busy
time of the year to get around to things, so I am just trying to remind
the folks out there that I'd really like to get this working again. I am
more than happy to try test/debugging builds, whatever it takes. (And
I'm trying to get my fist so that this would be a lot less of an issue,
but it's just slow going folks!)

Thanks.

Re: [Dx4win] CW Keying 8.03

2009-12-22 Thread ON4AOI
Hi All,
To Debug or solve this problem I like to know what
OS people are using. The new driver is ONLY for using the LPT port
If needed and has nothing to do with the serial port.
As far that I know there is nothing changed in version 8.03 what
Is related to the serial port.
Tests with reel serial ports and USB to SERIAL ports are working
OK here on XP-PRO an VISTA-ULTIMATE with IC7800 and FT920

Surely, the people who are using COM port keying successfully can help
us get to the bottom of this problem. It *should* work, and it's more
important to debug the problem than to give up.

Did you try all four combinations of RTS/DTR settings in the CW

Thought I had tried this before unsuccessfully, John. Maybe I was
thinking of that other logging program I used for a while. Oh well...

In any case 8.03 seems to be working just fine using the COM port here.
I'm using a standard COM port and Win XP.

I would suggest that Peter double check his settings and not assume the
configuration from .02 was correctly copied to .03.

Tried it here and it works fine. In fact I notice a major improvement.
You can now use the same COM port for radio control and CW. I use RTS to
supply power to the interface and DTR to key the CW line. I believe this
is new in Ver 8.03. This is going to be real handy with my laptop which
only has one COM port (which is one more than most ;-).

What kind of keying are you using? DX4WIN on COM port? on LPT port? Winkey?

If LPT, did you remember to run the driver install in the drivers
directory? You were told this during the 8.03 installation.

[Dx4win] CW Keying

2007-06-21 Thread Terrance Hines
Trying to get ready for field day and I need some quick help.

I have Version 5.03 running on XP with one of the few reasonably new laptops
that still has a Serial Comm port. I've used DX4WIN on previous field day
events and I have an 9-Pin RS-232 cable already made up to work with RTS.
The last time I did this I was running XT. I can hear DX4WIN sending CW
through the computer's speaker but I don't see it switching the voltage
across the base resistor of the 2N transitor. I am using an Icom 706
and the "Preferences/Radio" is set for Icom Radio and Comm Port 3, RTS and
a delay of 5 ms. I think the port is set for Comm Port 3 in Windows XP
because everytime I try to change it to a different Comm Port I get and
error message. I would appreciate any help that could be provided. I should
have done this before but other higher priorities prevented me from getting
this done until now.

I think you have to use different COM ports to control the radio and to send
CW. You may also use a LPT (printer) port to send CW while using the COM
port to control the radio. Note that the LPT port pinout is different from
the COM port.

[Dx4win] CW keying "change" in 7.01?

2005-06-10 Thread K2DBK - David
I recently converted from version 6.03 to 7.01. I noticed what seems to be
a change (perhaps a bug) with CW keying. It seems that under this version,
when I use the built-in keyer, PTT is behind triggered as well, which was
not the case previously. System is Windows XP Pro, I have COM2 set up with
PTT delay set to 0, DTR used for CW keying, and RTS for PTT. I know that
setting PTT delay to a non-zero value is supposed to cause PTT to fire
before CW keying, but that's not the case here. The net effect is that it
makes the radio (Icom 756 Pro II) act like it's not in QSK mode (which it
definitely is; using an external key confirms that there's nothing wrong
with the radio itself). (I can "hear" PTT being keyed as I'm using a
Rigblaster plus, and you can hear the relay click shut just before keying
starts, and open when finished. This was not the behavior in previous
versions.)

I did a couple of tests to make sure that I wasn't missing anything:
I turned PTT keying via RTS off, and the behavior returned to the
"old" way. (Unfortunately, I need PTT to use PSK, so that's not a permanent
fix.)

I turned PTT keying back on, then turned CW keying via DTR off.
When sending CW, PTT is engaged, but no CW is sent.

I tried setting the PTT delay to a non-zero value, saved, then set
it back to zero (figuring something was "stuck" somehow, but that didn't
seem to change anything.

None of my hardware has changed since I moved from 6.03, and
indeed testing with that version shows correct behavior. I have migrated
all my settings over, including the radio .RIG file, and have verified that
all the settings are correct.

Has anyone else seen this particular issue? Have I found a bug?

[Dx4win] cw keying problem

2005-02-21 Thread Bob Frey
I just reinstalled DX4WIN version 4.07 on a new computer.
I can't get the CW to send. When I type in "X ENTER", the rig goes into
transmit. WHen I type on the keyboard the letters are echoed in the program,
but the rig just stays in transmit and dosen't actually send the cw characters.
The LPT interface works because I can send using the CT program just fine.
ANy ideas?

Subject: [Dx4win] Pre 1975 CW DXCC confirmations
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I am a relatively new to DX4WIN and am happy with most of the functions it
provides but I am quite frustrated with the lack of support for CW
confirmations prior to 1/1/1975. This is the official start date for CW DXCC.
CW confirmations prior to 1975 count for the DXCC Mixed and Challenge awards
but are not valid for CW DXCC.

Mainly due to some long duration lapses in my amateur radio activity I have a
few CW confirmations prior to 1975 for current countries that have not been
re-worked since then. Also I have a number of CW confirmations for deleted
countries worked prior to 1975 but have not been electronically recorded at the
League. In both cases these confirmations are valid for overall totals, the
mixed award, and the Challenge award but not valid for CW DXCC. Since DX4WIN
is not sensitive to the CW DXCC start date a number of DXCC reports are not
accurate including the Listing, Needed, Summary, and Submissions reports. The
only solution that the product seems to offer is a Selection filter which can
be set to 1/1/1975. But setting a selection filter in this manner generates
inaccurate reports also since all confirmations including Phone, Mixed, and
RTTY are erroneously filtered. The Selection filter is not sensitive as to
mode. Further, when generating a Submissions report some of the Subm flags are
set erroneously, i.e. the mode flags are set incorrectly and in some cases the
Mixed flag is not set correctly. I have not used the spotting functions yet
but I would guess that users are not alerted to spots for those countries which
DX4WIN incorrectly assumes are already confirmed but, in fact, were CW contacts
confirmed prior to 1975.

With all of the functionality and automation incorporated into DX4WIN is seems
a shame that a user cannot receive accurate DXCC reports and needs to cross
check a number of reports with some head scratching to understand his/her DXCC
status. In my opinion, it would be a worthwhile effort to incorporate the CW
DXCC start date into the product. If completed it might be a good idea to
allow the user to determine whether or not they would like this support by a
setting in the Preferences file.

Am I missing something here or are there others who would agree that DX4WIN
should more fully support CW DXCC?

2005-02-20 Thread Bob Frey
Thanks to all for responding to my plea for an install of versiion 4.07. I'm
up and running again!

Next question. I can't get the CW keyer to work in DX4WIN. It puts the radio
in transmit with CTL D, but it does not send out CW neither from the keyboard
or the function key messages. I know the LPT interface works, because it works
fine in CT. I have the CW port in preferences/radio set to LPT1. I'm running
XP Home. The CW keying worked fine in the old computer with the same hardware
and radios and like I said it works fine in CT. Any ideas?

[Dx4win] CW keying on XP thru LPT3

2003-10-16 Thread Paul Ferguson
I have a new Windows XP system. I installed a SIIG Cyber PCI I/O card
to give me an extra LPT and two extra COM ports.

The additional LPT port is LPT3. When I configure DX4WIN (Version
6.02) to send CW over LPT3, DX4WIN says "Cannot find LPT3 for
keying."

I see that LPT3 is installed by looking at the Device Manager ports.
I also tried attaching a spare printer (an HP laserjet 5L) to LPT3.
Windows XP added the printer and it prints OK.

What does DX4WIN need to find LPT3?

[Dx4win] CW keying and the IC 706 MKIIG

2002-12-23 Thread <[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Kurt W. Zimmerman)
Greetings all and Happy Holidays;
I've been spending some quality time with my IC 706MKIIG since it is
the
only spare radio I have to use at my new station. I've investigated the
computer controlled interface I need to control the rig and found some
great resources on the internet thanks to many members of this group. I am
now interested in searching out CW keying. Now here is what I want to do
and I am wondering if it can be done. On my primary radio (Yaesu FT-920) I
can operate CW from my computer using DX4WIN as well as operate with my
paddle. Is there a way to do the same with the IC-706? I would think the
cable I use from the LPT port to key the rig would work but I would like to
use my paddle at the same time. Do I need to use an external keyer with my
paddle and use a Y-cable from it to the rig? I would like to see if there
are other possibilities before I go this route. Please advise.

... a slight oversight for Yaesu in an otherwise contest/digital/aggressive
user-friendly rig! The IC-756PRO line has a manual jack on the back and a
keyer input jack on the front. I happen to have an MFJ-492 Menu Memory

Larry, that is OK if your paddles are connected to an external keyer. The
LPT output should go to a manual key input, i.e. you can't attach that to a
paddle input to an internal keyer.

I've seen a lot of people use a Y connector from their rig's mono key
input,
one side to their computer and the other side to the output of an external
keyer. GL - 73 John, WA9ALS

Is there any reason that one cannot use a wye connector out of
the back
of the rig's key jack (in this case a 1000MP) and hook both a set
of
paddles and the LPT1 connection to the station PC? The LPT1
circuit is
the one shown in the Help file of DX4WIN, using a 2N.

Larry, that is OK if your paddles are connected to an external keyer. The
LPT output should go to a manual key input, i.e. you can't attach that to a
paddle input to an internal keyer.

I've seen a lot of people use a Y connector from their rig's mono key input,
one side to their computer and the other side to the output of an external
keyer. GL - 73 John, WA9ALS

Yes: Using paddles (implying you have the keyer turned on) is totally
different that LPT keying, which acts as an old fashioned straight key.
Conversely, if you have the keyer turned off, the LPT keying from DX4Win (or
most any other program) works fine, but your paddles are pretty much useless.
A major design flaw on the 1000MP, in my opinion.

Steve

Is there any reason that one cannot use a wye connector out of the back
of the rig's key jack (in this case a 1000MP) and hook both a set of
paddles and the LPT1 connection to the station PC? The LPT1 circuit is
the one shown in the Help file of DX4WIN, using a 2N.

[DX4WIN] CW Keying on Mark-V

2002-01-11 Thread Alan Clark
Thanks for the info. By turning the built-in electronic keyer off DX4WIN
started keying the Mark-V. I am using the W1WEF Model 3 parallel port CW
keying interface. I think I will just stick with the parallel keying, it
seems to work fine. It is funny though, using TR Log, it keys the rig even
if the electronic keyer is turned on where DX4WIN will not. Again, thanks
for all the help.

Hello Alan,

LPT keying problem is probably not caused bij DX4WIN but from your TRX.
I can simulate your problem with my FT1000mp when I set the MONITOR key ON
when OFF the garbage is solved.

[Dx4win] CW Keying on Mark-V

2002-01-10 Thread Alan Clark
I know this has probably been rehashed, but I am using a Yaesu FT-1000MP
Mark-V and am having problems with DX4WIN keying the radio properly on CW.
I have the computer interfaced to the rig and it is controlling everything
ok. I have the W1WEF Model 3 parallel port CW keying interface. I have not
tried it with TR Log yet. It would be nice to be able to key the rig using
the serial cable that you use to control the rig for keying CW via the CAT
port. In DX4WIN, using the parallel port interface, it keys the rig, but
sends garbage. In DX4WIN I can key a "T" and it sends an "I", key a "M" and
it sends an "S" and everything else is wrong, also. I was looking for any
insight you have garnished through your experience with DX4WIN?
