Maybe, but you insisted Sri Vidya

You might want to look at
what I did originally say:

   Ok.

Sri Rajareshsvari is a form of
the Goddess worshipped in Sri Vidya
and popular in the cult of the Shankaracharyas.
A very old pagan and
tantric Goddess.

i must politely take exception with your

As when i *google* your Rajareshsvari name i

It has a long association with these
  traditions,
 esp. the
 southern seat.

I gave you the link to the southern seat
  here it is again.
Why not email the southern seat directly and
  ask them if the
Shankaracharya there at Kanchi worships a sri

5). Kanchi mutt- here is the link go see if
  this mutt engages in
  worship of Sri Yantra

I'm guessing what's confusing you is that
they refer to it as a Sri
Chakra.
FYI this is synonymous with Sri Yantra.

No Sir. As i pointed out to you before.., when Adi
  Shankara
presented gifts to Devi Tripurasundari at the
  temple in Kanchi. He
gave Her earrings as gifts the earrings were
  called Sri Chakra.
Please check the wedsite i provided for the
  Southern Seat.
   http://www.kamakoti.org/peeth/aboutpeetham.html

The worship(or devotion/bhakti) of Sri Devi
  Tripurasundari is
related to Sri Chakra, and practrised in the
  Kanchi mutt. The
   devotion/bahkti done to Sri Tripurasundari
  involves puja(or Arti)
   and homage(or prayer) and RoopDhyana(or
  rememberance of Her divine
form) and does not involve secret rituals.

The sri yantra are mandalas painted on concrete
  or stone or paper
or made with sand-(as in the Tibetan Buddhist
  practice of sand
mandalas) and involve a mental concentration on a
  yantra.

Perhaps you might
want to look at the description of what
Adi Shankara carved into the
rock there (at the Sharada temple site)

   Where?

and what Vidyaranya installed
at numerous other places.

BTW, just a casual glance at itineraries
shows participation in Sri Vidya rituals.

 Please- *Specifically Identify from those
  itineraries which
 are sri yanta rituals?
I want to know what you are calling sri
  yantra rituals.

I think you're just playing games.

I think you are playing games, and attempting

Are those mandalas my wife paints

Maybe you should ask her?

Well on occassion i assist her, as some are very

However when the- frequent So. Indian

Quite honestly, I think *that's* a thought-stopper,
a way of avoiding dealing with what I said, and a
pretty classic way of arguing for your own limitations.

In my belief -- *and* in my experience -- the answer
to Jim's question is that there is NO limit to human
experience. Anything one can imagine can be done, can
be done. The issue is the breadth of one's imagination,
and the accompanying down-to-the-core belief that the
thing really *can* be done.

Those who cannot conceive of being able to have a
certain capacity can't. Simple as that.

And, the corollary, those who *can* conceive of
having a certain capacity can, given that other
conditions are fulfilled.

But without the precondition of believing it
possible, the capacity is beyond them. It will
stay beyond them as long as they do not believe
it possible.

So, again, Argue for your limitations, and sure

for them and about them. :-)

  Mike Hutchinson wrote:

Namaste Sir Mike Ji
I must politely take excetion with your comment regarding,-
you come accross as so arrogant.

Simply because Vaj Ji posted spurious claims regarding a Goddess
that simply can't be found.
And i simply inquired where his information could be found.
And then Vaj Ji claims that this *Unfound Goddess* is some how
involved in a cult that Adi Shankara founded, and is allegdly
practised in Adi Shankar's mutts.

And, then Vaj Ji confused Buddhist / tantra contemplation
practises of staring at yantras / mandalas with the Bhakti of Devi
Tripurasundari at Kanchi Mutt.
So i politely informed VajJi of the facts...
The two- Sri Chakra and sri yantra are not inter-related as in the
way Vaj Ji has suggested.

Then i was kind enough to politely inform Vaj ji where he may find a
living disciple (108 Swami Vishva HiteshJi Maharaj) of Sri Swami
BrahmanandJi Sarasawti (refered here at ffl as Guru Dev).

 I don't think you would
be privy to any inner teachings,

Most respectfully Sir Mike, there are no inner teachings anywhere.
So i don't think the 3 of us.., you me and Vaj Ji would be privy
to them.., as they simply don't exist.

i am guessing here but the *Mistaken Subject* VajJi is *attempting*
to write of is(i think)- *Guru Kripa*(or grace of the GuruJi).

Often times called inner teachings by us confused westerners.

Perhaps is was some of the first 19th century westerners that
visited Ramakrishna Paramahan's ashram that recieved
his blessing/Kripa that coined the term inner teachings. Fro
example Annie Beasant and her Theosphy teaching.

Or, maybe it was some westerners trying to make $$$.$$ off an non-
existant concept.

The Guru Kripa is not an inner teaching.

The process of Devotion/Bhakti is started by the *personal*
Kripa/grace of a true GuruJi(as Ramakrishna Paramahans and Sri
BrahmanandJi was).

The practise of Bhakti is *the same everywhere in India* the only
difference is the chosen from of- Ishta Devata or Sakar Brahma or
Divien Personal Form of God.

The Bhakti is- Puja(Arti) and Homage(prayer) and RoopDhyana
(Heartfelt loving-rememberance of Divine Personal Form of God as i
said before.

For Sri Adi Shankar it was Govinda(Sri Krishna) that is whay He
composed 'Bhajo Govindam' (if you don't believe me the *google* it).

In the Kanchi mutt it is Devi Tripurasundari.
For Sri Ramakrishna Paramahans it was Devi Kali.

For Sri Swami BrahmanandJi Saraswati its was- ??.. i asked and i was
told it was a devotional secret.
But from other eyewitness accounts that attended His satsangs it was
said-, He was once sighted silently mouthing Om Namah Shiviya
that according to Paul Mason (PremanandJi) who has intvestigated the
matter. Now Om Namah Shiviya is as you are no doubt aware related
to worship to God Shiva.

Now if Vaj Ji(or you) wants to find a true GuruJi and recieve His
grace/Kripa who btw is said to have Sri BrahmanandJi's praksha(Light)
then i may politely suggest finding 108 Swami Vishva HiteshJi
Maharaj in Corona, New York.

[FairfieldLife] The Amish way

Amish prepare to bury shooting victims
By MICHAEL RUBINKAM, Associated Press Writer

As the Amish prepared to bury four young victims of a horrific school
shooting, they asked to be allowed to do so in private.

National mourning of similar tragedies, such as the massacre at
Columbine High School, has been enabled in part by media coverage —
something the Amish generally shun and specifically spurned in a
statement Wednesday that pleaded for privacy.

Instead, the Amish are coping with the slayings by looking inward.
They are relying on themselves and their faith, just as they have for
centuries, to get them through what one Amish bishop called our
9/11

The Amish say they are quietly accepting the deaths as God's will.

They know their children are going to heaven. They know their
children are innocent ... and they know that they will join them in
death, said Gertrude Huntington, a Michigan researcher who has
written a book about children in Amish society.

The hurt is very great, Huntington said. But they don't balance
the hurt with hate.

In just about any other community, a deadly school shooting would
have brought demands from civic leaders for tighter gun laws and
better security, and the victims' loved ones would have lashed out at
the gunman's family or threatened to sue.

But that's not the Amish way.

In the aftermath of Monday's violence, the Amish have reached out to
the family of the gunman, Charles Carl Roberts IV, 32, who committed
suicide during the attack in a one-room schoolhouse.

Dwight Lefever, a Roberts family spokesman, said an Amish neighbor
comforted the Roberts family hours after the shooting and extended
forgiveness to them. Among Roberts' survivors are his wife and three
children

Roberts' relatives may even receive money from a fund established to
help victims and their families, said Kevin King, executive director
of Mennonite Disaster services, an agency managing the donations

This whole technology sounds a lot to me like
people trying work with the human brain using
a hacksaw and a chisel for tools. I can't believe
that anything truly useful (not to mention safe)
can come of this.

However, I do have personal experience with drugs
that prevent short-term memory from forming, and
I can tell you that it's a really unsettling
experience. I had to have a minor operation, the
kind where they push a tube with a videocam on
it down your gullet and take photos along the
way. One has to be awake for the operation, and
being as weird as I am, I was actually looking
forward to watching my own innards, real-time.

But just before the operation started the doctor
turned to me and said, I'm going to start this
IV drip now. It's a sedative and a mild amnesiac.

The next thing I knew, I was coming to in a
recovery room, having had two hours of my life
*excised* from my brain. I was awake the whole
time; one has to be to help the physicians guide
the tube to the right places. But I have zero
memories of the entire event. It never happened
for me, subjectively.

I was really *pissed* at the doctor for not
telling me in advance he was going to give me
this drug, and thus offering me the choice of
not taking it. I don't like folks messing with
my brain.

But having had my short-term memory effectively
erased, I can certainly believe that they could
come up with some drug that could do the same
thing for long-term memories. I just can't
believe that anyone would be so foolish as
to allow them to experiment on them, that's all.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Tinfoil-Hatter Foolerly

2006-10-05 Thread TurquoiseB
In my belief -- *and* in my experience -- the answer
to Jim's question is that there is NO limit to human
experience. Anything one can imagine can be done, can
be done. The issue is the breadth of one's imagination,
and the accompanying down-to-the-core belief that the
  thing really *can* be done.

So why did you flee to France instead of sticking
around and fixing what you don't like about the U.S.?

Why haven't you become a famous writer, a literary
giant, a legend in your own time?

Uh, I didn't *want* to do either of those things? :-)

For the second, I've seen enough of fame to never
want it for myself. For the first, what is there
about America *worth* fixing? :-)

Those who cannot conceive of being able to have a
certain capacity can't. Simple as that.

And, the corollary, those who *can* conceive of
having a certain capacity can, given that other
  conditions are fulfilled.

Oh, wait, what other conditions? Who's responsible
 for fulfilling them?

You are, of course.

Why don't you just conceive that you can fulfill
those conditions, and then proceed to fulfill them?

 Let's start there.

There are techniques available for seeing into
other dimensions or planes of awareness. If you
don't believe that this is possible, you'll never
avail yourself of those techniques. You have, in
fact, disallowed the possibility of it ever
happening, by arguing for your own limitations.

If, on the other hand, you firmly believe that it
is possible to do this, but don't know how, you
still can't necessarily do it. Find out where the
techniques are taught and learn them, and you can.

But you don't really care about any of this. You
just want to argue. Go argue for your own
limitations with someone who buys your story
that you didn't impose them on yourself. :-)

Namaste Sir Lawson,
Then please allow to clarify, and give you the gest of the
tired Old Anoop Chandola Story,
and the fabrications of truth
contained in Swami Shantanand's book
-'Om Sri Jyothirmath'.

First of all:
(1) Regarding the will of Sri BrahmanandJi.
None of the civil lawsuits were framed
 around the vaildity of
the will.
..Thus, none of the civil suits in
this dispute seems to have been
framed in terms of contesting the
legal bona fides of Brahmananda's
will...
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~ucgadkw/position/shank-jyot-ascii.html
   snip
As I said, one of us is misreading
   what the court has said...

As I quoted to you twice from the
higher court's summary, the lower court
 found that the
 willl was valid... O well...

Namaste Sir Lawson,
The validity of the will means exactly this..
there were five names on a piece of paper that was *Published after
Sri BrahmanandJi passed away*..,that is an *Undisputed Legal Fact*
by the Lower Court and Supreme Court and by both parties-,
the Resondent/Ramji Tripathi-Shantinand, and the Plaintiffs.
http://www.austlii.edu.au/~andrew/CommonLII/INSC/1974/153.html

The plaintiffs in the court case suggested to the court the order
had been reversed, as Swami Shantinand was the last choice and the
poorest choice..,as it was *Factually Established* Shantinand/Ramji
Tripathi could not comprehend nor read sanskrit
http://www.austlii.edu.au/~andrew/CommonLII/INSC/1974/153.html
and - http://
www.mail-archive.com/fairfieldlife@yahoogroups.com/msg20687.html

That being said lets, look again at the *Facts* that Sir LawsonJi
continues to ignore(as that is afforded by *Blind Faith*).

It is a Historical Fact that Ramji Tripathi aka Swami Shantinand
fabricated a story and published his *Om Sri Jyotirmath*.

Now my question to you- Sir Lawson Ji is..
*Why was it nessaccary for Swami Shantanand to LIE about his
past*??..
And, what would motivate Swami Shantinand to *LIE*?...

(Although to his credit Swami Shantinand quit his charade and-,
gave up this nonsense of claiming the title of Shankaracharya.)

Herewith are the *lIES* (and the facts you ignore)..
a. *legal Fact* the publication of the will, which surfaced weeks
after Sri BrahmanandJi's passing.
Inspite of Swami Shantanand's claim-,
Item #1). A fully executed will of
  Sri BrahmanandJi was deposited in
  Allhalabad on December 18, 1952.
(1st paragraph page 2 of 'Om Sri Jyothirmath')

b. Swami Shantinand was a poor choice because of the *Legal Fact* he
could not comprehend sanskrit nor the Vedas.
Inspite of Swami Shantinand's claim-,
He was completely qualified the hold the
seat as he was literate in
  Sanskrit and the Vedas.
(2nd paragraph page 2 of 'Om Sri Jyothirmath')

c. At issue was the fact that Swami Shantanand was installed in Sri
BrahmanandJi's gaddi by Brahmachari Mahesh and few friends that
thought the will could be credible. As, Dana Sawyer Professor of
Religion and Philoshpy at Maine College of Art has pointed out.
Inspite of Swami Shantinand's claim-,
Item #2). He was installed in Varansi
in the presence of hundreds of
scholars from all over the country
(2nd paragraph page 3 of 'Om Sri Jyothirmath')

d. At issue were the suspicious behavior and motivations of
Brahmachari Mahesh at about the time of Sri BrahmanandJi's passing.
..In fact, the earliest doubts about the will left by Brahmananda
Saraswati were linked to suspicion of the motives and actions of
Mahesh Yogi (then called Mahesh Brahmachari)...
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~ucgadkw/position/shank-jyot-ascii.html

e. From the Kropinski interview of Oct. 1986 with the *ONLY LEGIMATE
LEGALLY RECOGNIZED* Shankaracharya of Jyosimutt.
...He said, word came to me that he (Shantinand) had
requested to be allowed on the stage. I allowed him to be present
only because he has given up this nonsense of claiming title to
Shankaracharya.
He said Vishnu Devanand, Mahesh's so-called
Shankaracharya, was also here in Vrindaban, he also requested to
come onto the stage, but I refused. Then, he (Vishnu Devanand)
stated he would sit on a lower, undecorated seat if I allowed him to
attend. I refused him. Then, he again begged to simply sit on the
floor of the stage at my feet, if I allowed him to be publicly
present. Again I refused. He said, if I allow him to be seen with
me, and all the while wrongfully claiming title as Shankaracharya,
it will appear as if I approve of his activity, and I do not.
Therefore, he said, I have ordered that he may not even come into
the tent to sit in the audience

They may be college teachers and students, but they're also pioneers -
exploring strange new worlds that exist nowhere on Earth. That's
because their classes and field trips take place only on computers,
using an online digital world called Second Life (http://secondlife.com/).

Some 60 schools and universities have set up shop inside Second Life -
most in the past year. They join a population that includes real-world
business people, politicians, entertainers, and more than 800,000
other residents of the virtual world.

For the first time this fall, a Harvard University class is meeting on
its own Berkman Island within Second Life (SL). Avatars, visual
images that represent the students and teachers, gather in an
outdoor amphitheater, head inside a virtual replica of Harvard Law
School's Austin Hall, and travel to complete assignments all over the
digital world. (If SL could be magically brought into the real
world, it would cover about 85 square miles.)

Simply because Vaj Ji posted spurious
  claims regarding a Goddess
  that simply can't be found.
And is some how involved in a cult that
Adi Shankara founded, and is allegdly
  practised in Adi Shankar's mutts.
And, then Vaj Ji confused Buddhist /
  tantra contemplation practises of staring
at yantras / mandalas with the Bhakti of Devi
  Tripurasundari at Kanchi Mutt.
So i politely informed VajJi of the facts...
The two- Sri Chakra and sri yantra are
not inter-related as in the way
  Vaj Ji has suggested.
Then i was kind enough to politely informed
Vaj ji where he may find a living disciple
(108 Swami Vishva HiteshJi Maharaj) of
  Sri Swami BrahmanandJi Sarasawti
(refered here at ffl as Guru Dev).

   I don't think you would
be privy to any inner teachings,

Most respectfully Sir Mike, there are
  no inner teachings anywhere.
So i don't think the 3 of us..,
you me and Vaj Ji would be privy
to them.., as they simply don't exist.
i am guessing here but the *Mistaken Subject*
VajJi is *attempting* to write of is(i think)
  - *Guru Kripa*(or grace of the GuruJi).
  Often times called inner teachings
  by us confused westerners.
Perhaps is was some of the first 19th
  century westerners that visited
  Ramakrishna Paramahan's ashram that recieved
his blessing/Kripa that coined the term
inner teachings. For example Annie Beasant
  and her Theosphy teaching.
Or, maybe it was some westerners trying
to make $$$.$$ off an non-existant concept.
The Guru Kripa is not an inner teaching.
The process of Devotion/Bhakti is started by
the *personal* Kripa/grace of a true GuruJi
(as Ramakrishna Paramahans and Sri BrahmanandJi was).
The practise of Bhakti is *the same everywhere
in India* the only difference is the chosen
from of- Ishta Devata or Sakar Brahma or
  Divine Personal Form of God.

The Bhakti is- Puja(Arti) and Homage(prayer)
  and RoopDhyana (Heartfelt loving-rememberance
of Divine Personal Form of God)
  as i said before.

For Sri Adi Shankar it was Govinda(Sri Krishna)
that is whay He composed 'Bhajo Govindam'
(if you don't believe me the *google* it).

In the Kanchi mutt it is Devi Tripurasundari.
For Sri Ramakrishna Paramahans it was Devi Kali.

For Sri Swami BrahmanandJi Saraswati its was-??.
i asked, and i was told it was a devotional secret.
But from other eyewitness accounts that
  attended His satsangs it was
said-, He was once sighted silently mouthing
  Om Namah Shiviya
that according to Paul Mason (PremanandJi)
  who has intvestigated the matter.
Now Om Namah Shiviya is as you are no
doubt aware related to worship of God Shiva.
Now if Vaj Ji(or you) wants to find a true
GuruJi and recieve His grace/Kripa who btw
is said to have Sri BrahmanandJi's praksha(Light)
then i may politely suggest finding
  108 Swami Vishva HiteshJi Maharaj
  in Corona, New York.

Namaste TurquoiseB Ji,

[FairfieldLife] yr query dt 4th Oct on Brahmcharya (celibacy)

2006-10-05 Thread rama krishna

Atman Robert, Jai Gurudev! This has refrence to yr query dt Oct 4th on Celibacy. Both the Hindu and Tibetan spiritual practices lay a great emphasis on Brahmcharya(Celibacy). The Patanjali Yog Sutras also talks of importance of continence. Here are some quotes from various sources:-"Brahmacharya or spotless chastity is the best of all penances; a celibate of such spotless chastity is not a human being, but a god indeed... To the celibate who conserves the semen with great efforts, what is there unattainable in this world? By the power of the composure of the semen, one will become just like myself. "- Lord Sankara"Caution in diet is of threefold value, but abstinence from sexual intercourse is of fourfold value. The Sannyasi had, and has a rule never to look at a woman. "- Atreya
"Let not a Brahmin see a woman naked." - Manu"There is no doubt that people die prematurely by letting the semen out of the body; knowing this, the Yogi should always preserve semen and lead a life of strict celibacy." Siva Samhita-"And those students who find that world of God through chastity, their is that heavenly country; theirs in whatever world they are, is freedom." - Chhandogya Upanisad -"A wise man should avoid married life as if it were a burning pit of live coals. From the contact comes sensation, from sensation thirst, from thirst clinging, by ceasing from that, the soul is delivered from all sinful existence." - Lord Buddha"These sexual propensities, though they are at first like ripple, acquire the proportions of a sea on account of a bad company. Whenever the mental image of a woman crops up in your mind with evil thoughts, repeat mentally "Om Durgaa Devyai Namah " and do mental prostrations." - Swami Vivekananda"Know that in this world there is nothing that cannot be attained by one who remains from birth to death a perfect celibate . In one person, knowledge of the four Vedas, and in another, perfect celibacy- of these, the latter is superior to the former who is wanting in celibacy." - The Mahabharat"All men and youngmen in particular, can experience the immediate benefit of chastity. The memory is quiet and tenacious, the brain lively and fertile, the will energetic, the whole character gains a strength of which libertines have no conception, no prism show us our surroundings under such heavenly colours as that of chastity, which lights up with its rays the least objects in the universe and transports us into the purest joys of an abiding happiness that shows neither shadow neither decline. " - Prof. Montagaza "This seed (semen) is marrow to your bones, food to your brains, oil to your joints and sweetness to your breath and if you are a man, you should never loose a drop of it, until you are
fully thirty years of age and then only for the purpose of having a child which shall be blessed by heaven and really one of the inmates of the kingdom of heaven by being born again. " - Dr. Molvil Keith M.D. Chastity no more injures the body and the soul, self-discipline is better than any other line of conduct. - Sir James Pagen"It is a singularly false notion... the notion of imaginary dangers in absolute continence. Virginity is a physical, moral and intellectual safeguard to youngmen. " Here are some links on

Sorry, but this is just complete bullsh*t, and I'd bet my life
Buddha never said this. I guess the first thing that comes to mind
is why sensation leads to thirst. Sure it does if the Self is not
realized and someone is lost in the play of the senses. (But even if

don't experience it?)

How weak would someone be that the only way they could avoid
attachment would be to avoid sensation. The whole thing is so
perverted. What do we do, go through life wrapped up like mummies,
or encased like fetuses? A rediculous, immature and poorly thought
out quotation from someone who hadn't a clue about Buddha's teaching.

The other thing that occurs to me when reading all these high-minded
quotations about celibacy, is Who Makes The Babies? All the
supposedly lowly ignorant folk? And if this is so, what do you think
their kids would be like?

Stupid stuff. Maybe for monks, but nothing of value here for worldly
folk. Only adds to sexual repression and confusion, and um, seems
like there's enough of that to go around already. No more

  Namaste Vaj ji
Please tell me of this external ritual?
  For example puja?

  Samaya practice is internal

  a practitioner doing anything
  obvious externally).

Please tell me is this samaya the
  same tm-samya?

There are different ways of classifying
 tantric practice. In one of
 these ways-of-seeing, samaya tantra is
 internal tantric practice, not
relying on external ritual but rather
 an internal practice.

Namaste Sir Vaj Ji,
I humbily request your *Source* of your samaya Tantra??
And, are you sure you are not mis-spelling samaya?
i think there is supposed to be another m in there..,samayma..
maybe?

 For a
 great example, see Shankara's tantric
 works like Saundaryalahari--but
 as I indicated before,
not everyone accepts Shankara as the author...

Good point Sir, as no one in Kanchi Mutt(your- southern seat)
*ever* claimed Sri Adi Shankar ever wrote any tantric works.
And, that comes straight from the source.., at Kanchi Mutt.

   Not
finding a secret practice on a web site
is no indication that it is
  not practiced,
nor should we be surprised it is not practiced
  everywhere.

Maybe, but you insisted Sri Vidya
  was practised by Adi Shankara
  and at His established mutts.

You might want to look at
  what I did originally say:

  Ok.

Sri Rajareshsvari is a form of
the Goddess worshipped in Sri Vidya
and popular in the cult of the Shankaracharyas.
  A very old pagan and
  tantric Goddess.

i must politely take exception with your statement.
As when i *google* your Rajareshsvari
name i come up with nothing!!
However if i *google* the name i told you-
  Tripurasundari i come up
  with 16,000 sites related to
  Devi Tripurasundari
  http://www.google.com/search?hl=enq=tripurasundari
  Results 1 - 10 of about 16,000 for tripurasundari. (0.58 seconds

 Try the transliteration Rajarajeswari.

Ok..i did and you know what?.. She is same Devi Tripurasundari!!
And, She did in fact recieve earrings as a gift from Sri Adi
Shankar. And, the earrings gifted by Sri Adi to Devi Lalita
Tripurasundari Rajeshwari were knwon as Sri Chakra!!

It's not Her only name, she
 has many names.

Correct

 It seemed such common knowledge,
 I assumed you would've known.

You mis-spelled it.

It has a long association with
  these traditions,
  esp. the
  southern seat.

I gave you the link to
  the southern seat
  here it is again.
Why not email the southern seat directly
  and ask them if the
  Shankaracharya there at Kanchi
  worships a sri yantra'??
5). Kanchi mutt- here is the link go
see if this mutt engages in
  worship of Sri Yantra
  http://www.kamakoti.org/peeth/aboutpeetham.html

I'm guessing what's confusing you is that
they refer to it as a Sri
  Chakra.
FYI this is synonymous with Sri Yantra.

No Sir. As i pointed out to you before..,
  when Adi Shankara
  presented gifts to Devi Tripurasundari

gave Her earrings as gifts the earrings
  were called Sri Chakra.
  Please check the wedsite i

  The worship(or devotion/bhakti) of

[FairfieldLife] Pulling your plonk in Iran

2006-10-05 Thread shempmcgurk
Khameini: Don't masturbate during Ramadan

Iran's supreme leader answers questions on masturbation and other
topics on his website

Deliberate masturbation during the month of Ramadan renders a fast
invalid, Iranian Supreme Leader Sayyid Ali Khameini has ruled.

Khameini, who is Iran's most powerful political and religious
figure, was asked on his website : If somebody masturbates during
the month of Ramadan but without any discharge, is his fasting
invalidated?

If he do not intend masturbation and discharging semen and nothing
is discharged, his fasting is correct even though he has done a
h#803;ar#257;m (forbidden) act. But, if he intends masturbation or he knows
that he usually discharges semen by this process and semen really
comes out, it is a h#803;aram intentional breaking fasting, the Iranian
leader said, posting the reply on his website.

Another reader asked: Once in the holy month of Ramadan, I forgot
to brush my teeth, and some tiny bits of food remained in my mouth.
I swallowed the bits unintentionally. Do I have to perform the qad#803;a
(repent) for that day's fast?

If you did not know that some bits of food remained between the
teeth, or you did not know that they would reach the throat, and
they were swallowed unknowingly and unintentionally, then you are
not liable to make (repent) of the fast, said Khameini.

'Drink water while standing'

On the website, Khameini also tells Iranians that only jockeys are
permitted to gamble on horse races.

He is also asked whether it is permissible for a man to marry a
woman only in order to be able to live in his wife's country. Can a
man conclude a marriage contract for a year with a European girl
after getting her agreement with the purpose of going to her
country? A reader asked.

There is no problem in that if they are serious in contracting
marriage and it is done with her father's permission if she is
virgin, Khameini ruled.

The Iranian leader also told readers they were allowed to to drink
water while standing at nights. It was not permissible to take
part in meetings attended by both men and women, he told another
reader.

In Islam's view, rulers and governments exist just to serve people
and carry out works in the interest of the public and this is what
God demands us, as authorities, to fulfill, Khamenei was quoted
Tuesday telling Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

I know that more people died at Columbine and at Oklahoma City but
what happened at the Amish school sickens me much, much more.

It was, simply, horrific and it makes me ill just thinking about it.

Amish prepare to bury shooting victims

As the Amish prepared to bury four young victims of a horrific

National mourning of similar tragedies, such as the massacre at
Columbine High School, has been enabled in part by media coverage —

something the Amish generally shun and specifically spurned in a
statement Wednesday that pleaded for privacy.

Instead, the Amish are coping with the slayings by looking inward.
They are relying on themselves and their faith, just as they have
for

The Amish say they are quietly accepting the deaths as God's will.

They know their children are going to heaven. They know their
children are innocent ... and they know that they will join them

written a book about children in Amish society.

The hurt is very great, Huntington said. But they don't balance
 the hurt with hate.

In just about any other community, a deadly school shooting would
have brought demands from civic leaders for tighter gun laws and
better security, and the victims' loved ones would have lashed out
at
the gunman's family or threatened to sue.

But that's not the Amish way.

In the aftermath of Monday's violence, the Amish have reached out
to
the family of the gunman, Charles Carl Roberts IV, 32, who
committed
suicide during the attack in a one-room schoolhouse.

Dwight Lefever, a Roberts family spokesman, said an Amish neighbor
comforted the Roberts family hours after the shooting and extended
forgiveness to them. Among Roberts' survivors are his wife and
three
 children

Roberts' relatives may even receive money from a fund established

director
of Mennonite Disaster services, an agency managing the

If he do not intend masturbation and discharging

There is no problem in that if they are serious in

The Iranian leader also told readers they were

 permissible to take

[FairfieldLife] Tell Democrats that terrorists are gay Republicans...

2006-10-05 Thread shempmcgurk
...and they'll support the wiretapping law!

---

Who Knew Mark Foley was a Closeted Democrat?
By Ann Coulter
FrontPageMagazine.com | October 5, 2006

At least liberals are finally exhibiting a moral compass about
something. I am sure that they'd be equally outraged if Rep. Mark
Foley were a Democrat.
The object lesson of Foley's inappropriate e-mails to male pages is
that when a Republican congressman is caught in a sex scandal, he
immediately resigns and crawls off into a hole in abject
embarrassment. Democrats get snippy.

Foley didn't claim he was the victim of a witch hunt. He didn't
whine that he was a put-upon gay American. He didn't stay in
Congress and haughtily rebuke his critics. He didn't run for re-
election. He certainly didn't claim he was saving the
Constitution. (Although his recent discovery that he has a drinking
problem has a certain Democratic ring to it.)

In 1983, Democratic Rep. Gerry Studds was found to have sexually
propositioned House pages and actually buggered a 17-year-old male
page whom he took on a trip to Portugal. The 46-year-old Studds
indignantly attacked those who criticized him for what he called
a mutually voluntary, private relationship between adults.

When the House censured Studds for his sex romp with a male page,
Studds – not one to be shy about presenting his backside to a large
group of men – defiantly turned his back on the House during the
vote. He ran for re-election and was happily returned to office five
more times by liberal Democratic voters in his Martha's Vineyard
district. (They really liked his campaign slogan: It's the outfit,
stupid.)

Washington Post columnist Colman McCarthy referred to Studds' affair
with a teenage page as a brief consenting homosexual relationship
and denounced Studds' detractors for engaging in a witch hunt
against gays: New England witch trials belong to the past, or so it
is thought. This summer on Cape Cod, the reputation of Rep. Gerry
Studds was burned at the stake by a large number of his constituents
determined to torch the congressman for his private life.

Meanwhile, Foley is hiding in a hole someplace.

No one demanded to know why the Democratic speaker of the House,
Thomas Tip O'Neill, took one full decade to figure out that Studds
was propositioning male pages.

But now, the same Democrats who are incensed that Bush's National
Security Agency was listening in on al-Qaeda phone calls are
incensed that Republicans were not reading a gay congressman's
instant messages.

Let's run this past the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals: The suspect
sent an inappropriately friendly e-mail to a teenager – oh also, we
think he's gay. Can we spy on his instant messages? On a scale of 1
to 10, what are the odds that any court in the nation would have
said: YOU BET! Put a tail on that guy – and a credit check, too!

When Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee found unprotected
e-mails from the Democrats about their plan to oppose Miguel
Estrada's judicial nomination because he was Hispanic, Democrats
erupted in rage that their e-mails were being read. The Republican
staffer responsible was forced to resign.

But Democrats are on their high horses because Republicans in the
House did not immediately wiretap Foley's phones when they found out
he was engaging in e-mail chitchat with a former page about what the
kid wanted for his birthday.

The Democrats say the Republicans should have done all the things
Democrats won't let us do to al-Qaeda – solely because Foley was
rumored to be gay. Maybe we could get Democrats to support the NSA
wiretapping program if we tell them the terrorists are gay.

On Fox News' Hannity and Colmes Monday night, Democrat Bob Beckel
said a gay man should be kept away from male pages the same way
Willie Sutton should have been kept away from banks. If Willie
Sutton is around some place where a bank is robbed, Beckel
said, then you're probably going to say, 'Willie, stay away from
the robbery.'

H, let's search the memory bank. In July 2000, the New York
Times ethicist Randy Cohen advised a reader that pulling her son
out of the Cub Scouts because they exclude gay scoutmasters was the
ethical thing to do. The ethicist explained: Just as one is
honor bound to quit an organization that excludes African-Americans,
so you should withdraw from scouting as long as it rejects
homosexuals.

We need to get a rulebook from the Democrats:

Boy Scouts: As gay as you want to be.

Priests: No gays!

Democratic politicians: Proud gay Americans.

Republican politicians: Presumed guilty.

White House press corps: No gays, unless they hate Bush.

Active-duty U.S. military: As gay as possible.

Men who date Liza Minelli: Do I have to draw you a picture, Miss
Thing?
This is the very definition of political opportunism. If Republicans
had decided to spy on Foley for sending overly friendly e-mails to
pages, Democrats

Muslims are waging civil war against us, claims police union
By David Rennie, Europe Correspondent
(Filed: 05/10/2006)

Radical Muslims in France's housing estates are waging an
undeclared intifada against the police, with violent clashes
injuring an average of 14 officers each day.

Interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy was warned of an 'intifada'

As the interior ministry said that nearly 2,500 officers had been
wounded this year, a police union declared that its members were in
a state of civil war with Muslims in the most depressed banlieue
estates which are heavily populated by unemployed youths of north
African origin.

It said the situation was so grave that it had asked the government
to provide police with armoured cars to protect officers in the
estates, which are becoming no-go zones.

The number of attacks has risen by a third in two years. Police
representatives told the newspaper Le Figaro that the taboo of
attacking officers on patrol has been broken.

Instead, officers – especially those patrolling in pairs or small
groups – faced attacks as soon as they tried to arrest locals.

Senior officers insisted that the problem was essentially criminal
in nature, with crime bosses on the estates fighting back against
tough tactics.

The interior minister, Nicolas Sarkozy, who is also the leading
centre-Right candidate for the presidency, has sent heavily equipped
units into areas with orders to regain control from drug smuggling
gangs and other organised crime rings. Such aggressive raids
were disrupting the underground economy in the estates, one senior
official told Le Figaro.

However, not all officers on the ground accept that essentially
secular interpretation. Michel Thoomis, the secretary general of the
hardline Action Police trade union, has written to Mr Sarkozy
warning of an intifada on the estates and demanding that officers
be given armoured cars in the most dangerous areas.

He said yesterday: We are in a state of civil war, orchestrated by
radical Islamists. This is not a question of urban violence any
more, it is an intifada, with stones and Molotov cocktails. You no
longer see two or three youths confronting police, you see whole
tower blocks emptying into the streets to set their 'comrades' free
when they are arrested.

He added: We need armoured vehicles and water cannon. They are the
only things that can disperse crowds of hundreds of people who are
trying to kill police and burn their vehicles.

However, Gerard Demarcq, of the largest police unions, Alliance,
dismissed talk of an intifada as representing the views of only a
minority.

Mr Demarcq said that the increased attacks on officers were proof
that the policy of retaking territory from criminal gangs was
working.

Mayors in the worst affected suburbs, which saw weeks of riots and
car-burning a year ago, have expressed fears of a vicious circle, as
attacks by locals lead the police to harden their tactics, further
increasing resentment.

As if to prove that point, there were angry reactions in the western
Paris suburb of Les Mureaux following dawn raids in search of youths
who attacked a police unit on Sunday. The raids led to one arrest.
They followed clashes on Sunday night when scores of youths attacked
seven officers who had tried to arrest a man for not wearing his
seat belt while driving. That driver refused to stop, and later
rammed a police car trying to block his path.

The mayor of Les Mureaux, Francois Garay, criticised aggressive
police tactics that afterwards left the people on the ground to
pick up the pieces.

Sorry, but this is just complete bullsh*t, and I'd bet my life
Buddha never said this. I guess the first thing that comes to mind
is why sensation leads to thirst. Sure it does if the Self is not
realized and someone is lost in the play of the senses. (But even if
they are, how will they develop a desire to transcend that if they
 don't experience it?)

No more
 puritanical ideas, please.
I think most of these rules were made by priests at the behest of kings
or by priests turned kings themselves to control the populace. In fact
the celibacy thing is probably an early attempt at population control in
times of drought and famine. There is some credence to *excessive* sex
increasing vata but other than that there is not much of a reason for
celibacy.

Caution in diet is of threefold value, but abstinence from
sexual intercourse is of fourfold value. The Sannyasi had, and
has a rule never to look at a woman. - Atreya

Let not a Brahmin see a woman naked. - Manu

There is no doubt that people die prematurely by letting the
semen out of the body; knowing this, the Yogi should always
preserve semen and lead a life of strict celibacy. Siva Samhita

   etc.

 Another quote:

Rejoice and be thankful that guys actually believe

 Khameini: Don't masturbate during Ramadan

Deliberate masturbation during the month of Ramadan renders a fast

You must not have been sexually active in the TM
movement back during the mid-seventies. If you
walked into a TM center and emitted a non-celibate
vibe, you were home free.

Female TM teachers during the mid-to-late seventies
were the easiest women on the planet. I think it was
the same kind of panic reaction that one sees in women
who live near the Castro district in San Francisco.
Oh my god...a man who actually likes having sex with

[FairfieldLife] A room for the Sidhis Course?

2006-10-05 Thread Dick Mays
Title: A room for the Sidhis Course?

A friend in Houston just called to
introduce me to a 49-year-old TMer who is coming to Fairfield to
receive the TM-Sidhis for free, and then to join the Invincibility
America Group for a year. This lady sounds very bright and
positive, and she is looking for a free room beginning October 25
while she takes the course (and probably for a few days afterwards
until she can receive her first $500 check. She says she could
stay in a corner somewhere or sleep on the floor. If you or
anyone you know might have such a corner or floor - or even better a
spare room! - would you please call or email me to let me
know?

Thank you very much.

[FairfieldLife] I AM, the Movie

2006-10-05 Thread Vaj
I-I Friends Presents: I AM, A Breathtaking Movie ExperienceIntegral Institute Friends includes organizations and individuals with whom we share an integral approach. We’re constantly in dialogue with our friends on new initiatives, collaborations, and other ways that we can support and inspire each other. In this light, we are proud to present I AM, a film about the unity of all things in the Kosmos. This groundbreaking movie was brought to our attention by one of the founding sponsors of Integral Institute, Joe Firmage, who helped to create the film.Hello friends,I write today to announce that a new film—I AM—has been released online at IAmAwakening.org. A background briefing on the film is enclosed.I AM reveals Earth’s evolution through a young girl’s journey of self-discovery and awakening. Set to breathtaking imagery and music, I AM tells the epic story of our Cosmic genesis and the beginnings of life on Earth, and narrates the evolution of cultures creating our modern world.I AM presents the vision, in philosophically simple and emotionally rich _expression_, for the unity of being of all things in the Kosmos, past and present and future. The film takes us on a sweeping tour through time, from Cosmic origins through the birth of suns, planets, our own Earth, the evolution and wondrous diversity of life, and human history.I AM can be a powerful vehicle to foster unity among competing traditions of thought. It can catalyze understanding among nations and religions, and between religion and science. During these troubled times, I believe it should be seen by as many people as possible. It can be watched now in English, Spanish, Arabic and Farsi languages. If after experiencing I AM you agree that its message is timely, please feel free to share it with friends and communities within your reach.100% of profits from sales of the hi-res, hi-fi DVD of I AM will be donated to foundations focused on the integral movement and children’s well-being. 25% of such funds will be donated to I-I, in recognition of Ken Wilber’s unequalled efforts in establishing the kind of durable institution capable of altering the inertia of modern civilization in directions supportive of these goals. For those that have given to I-I, your contributions are making a difference. I gave $1 million for Phase 1 and will be giving 25% of the profits of this film for Phase 2. It is our support that is helping to bring the Integral Vision to an ever-broadening audience. What will you offer?JoeJoseph P. teeth, or you did not know that they would reach the throat, and
they were swallowed unknowingly and unintentionally, then you

 'Drink water while standing'

On the website, Khameini also tells Iranians that only jockeys

 are

permitted to gamble on horse races.

He is also asked whether it is permissible for a man to marry a
woman only in order to be able to live in his wife's

 country. Can a

man conclude a marriage contract for a year with a European girl
after getting her agreement with the purpose of going to her
 country? A reader asked.

There is no problem in that if they are serious in contracting
marriage and it is done with her father's permission if she is
 virgin, Khameini ruled.

The Iranian leader also told readers they were allowed to to

 drink

water while standing at nights. It was not permissible to

 take

part in meetings attended by both men and women, he told another
 reader.

In Islam's view, rulers and governments exist just to serve

 people

and carry out works in the interest of the public and this is

 what

God demands us, as authorities, to fulfill, Khamenei was quoted
Tuesday telling Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Shemp, sometimes I think you would have been happier with Rajneesh

 than

 with Maharishi.

If I would have been guaranteed to get some of that free loving that

I believe that is how they got so many people there. I wonder how many
TM'ers and even TM teachers joined that crowd?

You must not have been sexually active in the TM
movement back during the mid-seventies. If you
walked into a TM center and emitted a non-celibate
 vibe, you were home free.

Female TM teachers during the mid-to-late seventies
were the easiest women on the planet. I think it was
the same kind of panic reaction that one sees in women
who live near the Castro district in San Francisco.
Oh my god...a man who actually likes having sex with
 women...don't let him escape! :-)
That was just the seventies period. It got more and more crazy until
AIDS came along and scared everybody. I was just watching a little of
an old Night Stalker episode (the one about the rakshasa) and noting how
much more open things were on network TV than they are now.

In our center we probably did not have as many monks as you had. What
I'm talking about is people's karma when it comes to relationships (even
one night stands) and how that corresponds with their horoscope. A weak
7th lord may mean that person may find even one night stands daunting
even if they want them. A sannyasi yoga in the chart may bestow the
same results for a different reason.

Then please allow to clarify, and give you the gest of the

 -'Om Sri Jyothirmath'.

 First of all:
 (1) Regarding the will of Sri BrahmanandJi.
None of the civil lawsuits were framed

 the will.
..Thus, none of the civil suits in
this dispute seems to have been

As I said, one of us is misreading
what the court has said...

As I quoted to you twice from the
higher court's summary, the lower court
  found that the
  willl was valid... O well...

 Namaste Sir Lawson,
The validity of the will means exactly this..
there were five names on a piece of paper that was *Published after
Sri BrahmanandJi passed away*..,that is an *Undisputed Legal Fact*
by the Lower Court and Supreme Court and by both parties-,
the Resondent/Ramji Tripathi-Shantinand, and the Plaintiffs.
 http://www.austlii.edu.au/~andrew/CommonLII/INSC/1974/153.html

The plaintiffs in the court case suggested to the court the order
had been reversed, as Swami Shantinand was the last choice and the
poorest choice..,as it was *Factually Established* Shantinand/Ramji
Tripathi could not comprehend nor read sanskrit

 and - http://

As I said, you appear unable to understand what you furnish theURL for. The
higher court
said that the lower court said that the will was valid and that SBS was of
sound mind when
he wrote it. No mention was made to the order of the will in the URL you
provided.

As to the rest, the question now arises: who is vomptent to choose SBS's
successor? SBS or
the group of scholars? The fact of the matter is that THEY ignored SBS's will
completely
and chose someone who wasn't even listed.

Samadhi is drawing the senses into the shell and all that. The activity of the

Re: [FairfieldLife] inspiring comments from Seelisberg Ladies course

2006-10-05 Thread Peter
Seelisberg is an amazingly sattvic place perched on
the edge of a mountain overlooking lake lucerne. My
TTC was there in '73.

INVITATION TO LADIES PRACTISING THE TM-SIDHI AND
 YOGIC FLYING PROGRAMME

Join the special Invincibility course for Ladies and
 enjoy the most precious
blissful environment of Mother Divine in Seelisberg,

 each Saturday.

 Dear Ladies

The special Invincibility Course for Ladies has been

running since the beginning of August. All the
 course
participants are very happy with the extended
 TM-Sidhi
and Yogic Flying Programme. They are enjoying
deep experiences of higher states of consciousness
 and
many good things are happening in the field of
 health.
We would like all of you to share these good
 experiences
and join the course. This is a great gift of
 Maharishi.
This special Invincibility Course will allow ladies
 the
opportunity to awaken 24-hour bliss in daily life
 and
as a side effect radiate an influence of harmony,
 bliss
and invincibility in the collective consciousness of
 the
 whole world.

Some comments from course participants in Seelisberg

This course is a real blessing. I am very grateful
 that I could
be here. The Invincibility Programme opened a door
 for me
to a new dimension. During my stay here I felt so
 much bliss
and happiness and also had deep and wonderful
 experiences,
so that I can hardly express them in words. I wish
 that this
feeling of deep happiness will last in my daily life
 for a long
 time. -- Claudia, Germany

In Seelisberg you are closer to heaven but on this
 course
you are in heaven. Words cannot describe the divine
 level
that is experienced. The long flying programme
 dissolves
physical blocks and body and bones become liquid and
 seem
to be made of Soma. This course is a wonderful gift
 of Maharishi
and I am infinitely grateful for it. --
 Christiane, Germany

During the flying I had a feeling as if something
 like a bud
opened at the end of my spine. From the bud warmth,
 love,
energy was flowing into my body. It was an
 indescribable,
real, holy feeling. I felt very touched. --
 Viviane, Germany

For me, the Invincibility Course for Ladies fulfils
 a lifetime
wish: It is a Mother Divine course for
 householders. It is
such a privilege to participate in it and to meet
 such enlightened
ladies who, on a daily basis, have experiences of
 realisation
of the Sidhis, of higher states of consciousness and
 of amazing
results on the level of health. As I leave I can
 only plan for a
'coming back' and wish for a life where I can return
 on a
regular basis again and again. Punah, Punah... With
 thanks
to all those who made those days so heavenly and all
 gratitude
to Maharishi and the Vedic Masters who kept this
 knowledge
alive for us to enjoy as a living reality. --
 Susan, Lebanon

I had a wonderful time here at the Invincibility
 Course. I
came with a lot of stress, up and down depression
 and I didn't
know what to expect. I really found myself back
 again. I`ve
been experiencing lots of bliss, specially during
 the programme
but also after the programme. I feel now much more
 centred
in myself and stronger. I also feel that my energy
 now streams
through. Before, it blocked towards my belly and
 with the
flying I feel it went completely through. I haven't
 been flying
for many years, say 10 years, and now I hardly can't
 stop. I
didn't know what bliss was until I came to this
 course. I
feel with lots of energy and I am willing to take my
 life in both
hands again and live with my heart. I am feeling
 much more
compassion and love towards my family and I am not
 afraid
anymore of expressing it. -- Marie-Theresa,

CLAIM: FILTHY FOLEY ONLINE CHATS WERE PAGE 'PRANK GONE AWRY'
**World Exclusive**
**Must Credit the DRUDGE REPORT**

According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan
Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to
the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by
mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE
REPORT can reveal.

According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well,
Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded an unwitting Foley to type
embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of
young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions
got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats.

The primary source, an ally of Edmund, adamantly proclaims that the
former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a
second associate of Edmund. Both are fearful that their political
careers will be affected if they are publicly brought into the
investigation.

The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not
necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former
congressman and others.

The news come on the heels that Edmund has hired former Timothy
McVeigh attorney, Stephen Jones.

[FairfieldLife] Remember the Coalition of the Willing in Iraq?

2006-10-05 Thread jim_flanegin
Ever wonder why you never hear about them anymore?

I did some research just now, and this is what I turned up
(primarily on the www.globalsecurity.org website). Not much of a
surprise, but speaks volumes to the Republicans' lack of
accountability once again...

Original levels of the Coalition of the willing in 2003 were
~50,000 troops. Current levels are as follows:

1 United Kingdom 7,200
2 South Korea ~3,000 (~2,000 by end of 2006)
3 Italy 1,785 (0 by Dec. 2006)
4 Australia 1,400
5 Poland 900 (0 by end of 2006)
6 Romania 865
7 Denmark 515
8 El Salvador 380
9 Georgia 300
10 Azerbaijan 150
11 Bulgaria ~150
12 Latvia 136
13 Mongolia 131
14 Albania 120
15 Slovakia 104
16 Czech Republic 100
17 Lithuania ~50
18 Armenia 46
19 Estonia 38
20 Bosnia Herzegovina 37
21 Macedonia 33
22 Kazakhstan 29
23 Moldova* 12
TOTAL =  ~17,500

Original levels of the Coalition of the willing in 2003 were
~50,000 troops. Current levels are as follows:

 1 United Kingdom 7,200

Politically Britain is preparing to be able to leave within a year,

[FairfieldLife] 'TMers Win 1st Battle In Oz (Kansas)...' The Associated Press'

2006-10-05 Thread Robert Gimbel

Kansas county backs off plan for moratorium aimed at "peace palaces"The Associated PressPublished: October 5, 2006SMITH CENTER, Kansas A rural Kansas county has backed off a plan to keep an affilaite of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and his Transcendental Meditation movement from building a dozen marble "peace palaces" on prime farmland near the geographic center of the lower 48 continantal U.S. states. The organization, called the Global Country of World Peace, bought large tracts of land in Smith County earlier this year, usetting some residents. The three-member county commission on Monday repealed a zoning moratorium passed this summer designed to "preserve the status quo while it could be determined whether zoning regulations could be used to prevent the Global Country of World Peace from using land for the purposes announced by such
organization."There are no zoning regulations in the rural county area, although a planning commission is studying the idea. Most of rural Smith County is used for farming wheat and corn or as livestock pastures.County Attorney Allen Shelton said Thursday the commission "passed the moratorium to see if zoning could be used to keep the TMers out."He said the repeal came after the commission was told the peace group planned to file a federal lawsuit, claiming violation of its civil rights. Shelton said the group likely would have prevailed."The reason they urged the moratorium is they didn't want the Transcendental Meditation people to locate here," Shelton said. "You couldn't use zoning to exclude people for their beliefs. It's hard to think of a reason for not having an education center in the middle of the county."But County Commissioner Arthur Khulmann said the clash is not over."We lost
this battle, but we're still hoping to win the war," he said. "We just hope there's something else down the line that hasn't came up yet."Altogether, the Maharishi wants to build 2,400 peace palaces in 250 U.S. cities. The TM movement began in the 1950s and traces its roots to India. Practitioners repeat a thought — a mantra — over and over to achieve relaxation, typically for 15 to 20 minutes every morning and evening.Supporters say TM is a technique, not a religion. But several local pastors earlier this year signed a letter to a local newspaper saying: "They are welcome, but they must understand we are competing for the eternal souls of people."SMITH CENTER, Kansas A rural Kansas county has backed off a plan to keep an affilaite of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and his Transcendental Meditation movement from building a dozen marble "peace palaces" on prime farmland near the geographic center of the lower 48 continantal

Just to add, he originally broke the Monica Lewinsky
story and is enormously influential, a right-winger
who is utterly without scruples. A lot of the time he
posts sensationally scandalous gossip that has no

If you're a journalist, you can't afford not to check

On the website, Khameini also tells Iranians that only

He is also asked whether it is permissible for a man to

There is no problem in that if they are serious in

[FairfieldLife] Affirmative Action gone awry

How Not To Dismantle the Caste System
By Jayant Bhandari
Posted on 10/2/2006
[Subscribe at email services, tell others, or Digg this story.]

According to a recent news item, the Indian government will start
offering a dowry of INR50,000 (about US$1,100) to anyone who
marries someone from a lower caste. This money is more than 1.5
years of Indian per-capita GDP.

As per-capita GDP is an average, it is easy to imagine that this
money is much more than what the majority of Indians will see in
their lifetimes. Most cannot even imagine what this figure is.

I cannot but shudder at the social corruption this policy will cause.

This issue reminds me of my university days. I was brought up in a
well-off family. I did my schooling in a private, missionary school.
We all wore the same kind of uniform. And we had to sing a
relatively secular prayer in the mornings. All this meant that our
understanding of the caste system of India was mostly academic. This
equanimity about the caste system did not last. After school when we
went to the state-run university, most of us soon learned to look
down on the lower caste — courtesy of the state.

After finishing the school, I went through an extremely competitive
entrance examination to get admission into engineering. Those who
gained admission were to become social heroes. I remember that the
minimum required of the higher caste to gain admission was a score
over 70 percent. Because of affirmative action, those of the lower
caste had reserved seats.

Unfortunately, the state of public school education — in schools
that often had no buildings or teachers — is so utterly bad that
most of the lower-caste people who joined us knew close to nothing.
Most of them had entered the university with exam scores under 10
percent. (Even negative scores were not unheard of.)

As a part of the social engineering process, I was not to get my own
room in the student hall of residence. I was allotted a room with
someone from a lower caste. We had nothing in common. Even our Hindi
was so entirely different that we hardly understood each other. My
roommate had probably never seen a proper road or slept under a non-
thatched roof until he moved in. He certainly had no concept of gas
cooking and was unaccustomed to the usage of electricity.

I ran from post to pillar to get someone more sophisticated and
educated to join in my room. I wish I could have avoided hurting my
original roommate, but I would have, eventually, anyway. I created
all kinds of crazy stories to achieve my aim. Growing up in India,
you learn to do this as a natural part of life. I hated the state
for forcing me into that situation. Most of my peers began to use
derogatory words against those from the lower caste.

There was more to come. Hardly anyone from the lower caste knew any
English, the language for an engineering education. I soon saw that
in the first-year class there were many more people than there were
supposed to be. The reason is that most of the lower-caste students
never passed. Scores of lower caste people had been there for more
than a decade — several for twice as long. A lot of them eventually
went back home with worse self-esteem than when they came. Many of
those who matriculated with us were still in the first year when I
left.

As if this were not enough, I was soon to realize that the lower-
caste people had a special privilege. Any police report by a lower
caste person against a higher-class person meant a non-bailable
arrest warrant even without evidence. I quickly learned that it was
safer just to keep my distance.

My classmates who joined the state-run institutions came to realize
that those from the lower caste were on a fast-track program from
promotion. You junior soon became your senior.

Certain lower-caste individuals benefited from the privilege;
collectively, their situation only got worse.

Coming back to the case of the dowry that the Indian state is
offering, all kinds of ugly things will happen to the poor people.
They will be pawns in the hands of politicians looking for votes.
Poor girls will be put in positions where they will be forced to
prostitute themselves.

Several years from now when the horrendous effect of the dowry
start becoming visible, Indian politicians will start talking about
all the good intentions with which they started the policy. But
instead of abolishing it, they will fiddle with it, and the cycle of
corruption in the society will carry on.

Fortunately, this will not come to pass.

  It's wrong
Such a policy, were it delivered by honest public servants, would
quickly plunge the whole of the lower caste into utter moral
corruption. The redeeming feature is that corrupt Indian bureaucrats
and politicians will swindle away most of this dowry. Thank
goodness for corruption!
Call me sexist and casteist, but really, it is the poor people that
I care to write for. The rich look after themselves

[FairfieldLife] They who bear cruelty

2006-10-05 Thread authfriend
A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and
cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and
injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended
gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an
indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where
they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate.
