Re: [Felvtalk] resending: ?prices for raltegravir and generic Truvada?

2019-03-01 Thread Pam Doore
Yes that is worth a try if your pharmacist will do that. NYS requires a
script for compounding and they don't compound anything we bring into them
i.e. cat is given pills, cat won't take pills, they can't compound those
pills into something they will take, they need a script from vet and then
will get all ingredients and compound to a liquid, trans-dermal, etc.

I have not but you might talk to a compounding pharmacy in your area to get
a cost idea. I recommended a compounding pharmacy because they tend me to
be better able to get meds because of their ability to make them. Also Vets
First Choice is an online pharmacy that compounds. They may need to be

Re: [Felvtalk] Batman Felv Positive Having Neurological issues.

2018-10-22 Thread Pam Doore
Kelly did they check him for a blood clot. There is a specific kind that
happens middle of the back. I believe it is called a Saddleback due to the
location and they come on very suddenly.

I have had a neurological issue with one of my babies but it affects her
eyes. her pupils are not the same size and when they did her neurological
exam at the local that's office her reaction time on her right side was
slower than on her left side and that right pupil is alays razer thin no
matter what the light is.

She also had an episode this summer when it was super hot that she had a
head tilt drooling and stumbling by the time I got her to the vet she had
been in a cold car long enough to fully recover.

Ardy, I had similar thing with Sweetie Peetie having mammary cancer.
Looking back I would never put her though that surgery again. I got a few
hours with her at clinic after her surgery and she died in her sleep. Does
that had called to tell me she had stopped breathing on the operating
table and was "shockey". I have struggled with that but your post about
them knowing we were doing it out of love for them is very helpful and
true! Thank you Ardy!

I have observed the same thing. I appreciate all support to give quality
over quantity. I did not know that my cat Trixie had lung cancer I thought
she had developed a allergy to the Christmas tree. She crossed the bridge
before majority of med was in her system. They did give her all of it.. I
ended up having her put to sleep three weeks later and the vet told me at
that point that a cat will hold on as long as possible just for the sake of
their owner.

Re: [Felvtalk] Diarrhea...

2018-02-24 Thread Pam Doore
Hi Bob, My friend's cat I mentioned was a shelter cat who was treated by
both of our vets repeatedly and nothing worked. She was fostering and
finally gave up and took him to her own vet who saw everything that had
been tried and had not worked and went and did very expensive blood work
and then came up with the diagnosis the B12 prednisone and hydrolyzed
protein food. We were both disappointed that neither of the vet practices
that the cat had been to repeatedly and previously had never even
considered this condition as a possibility. If she had not adopted him he
would have been euthanized even though it's a no-kill shelter Praise the
Lord different leadership is at the shelter now and that is not a
possibility anymore.

My Ally also got picky about food near the end and I definitely don't want
to mess around with the kitty not eating and doing anything to make them
even less inclined to eat.

It would be more expensive but if you could get the script compounded into
a transdermal to be absorbed through the skin in the ear that would make it
so the meds were not in the food. I am very grateful for transdermal
meds:-D.

kitty. Some say there must be adequate time between cats in order to have
honored the one who has passed. Perhaps. I, on the other hand, believe
there is a cat waiting for me at the shelter. In fact, last Sunday when the
staff of our shelter arrived to work, they found several U-Haul boxes of
cats at the door! In total there were 40 kittens to four-year olds in the
boxes. I saw a Tux among the mix and am going to see him today. I'm also
going to ask the vet to test him for FeLv at my cost. Also, I believe we
must get rid of the litter pan from Zorro just to be on the safe side.

You could vaccinate one of yours against felv. or maybe a different
species for him to watch like a fish tank, bird feeders outside of room, or
if you have a smart tv..paul dinning videos on youtube are a favorite of

Mozart and Miko did everything together. Their mom, Ally tolerated being
with them but would have been fine as only kitty. After Miko died,
eventually she started playing with him. He is definitely more dependent

Re: [Felvtalk] Gilbert...

2017-06-25 Thread Pam Doore
I have been a foster failure 4 times. Once I saw how well the foster's did
with the the other cats and I fell in love, they had to stay :-D.

As far as treating shelter pets, I know that at my shelter there is a set
amount per pet and anything above that comes from a special account which
has been newly set up. We do not have a vet at our shelter, we have to
take the cats and dogs to the vet clinic and there really is no shelter
discount for medicine or office visits. I can't make decisions for pets
based on money alone. My goal is always the quality of life.

I wish you and Gilbert all the best in getting him the right meds to keep
him pain-free :-D. I love the image of a 15lb kitty snoozing on your chest
:).

Hi Marilyn, I have been using lysine gel to help my Mozart who has herpes
virus on top of the FeLu.
There was a powdered supplement that a FeLu rescue outside of Boston gives
to all of their cats to help build up immune system. I don't remember what
the name of that was. It was originally given to humans with HIV.

What kind of infection is Destiny fighting?

Re: [Felvtalk] Shelters and Sanctuaries for FelV

2017-06-08 Thread Pam Doore
Thank you, Bob. I will be in touch with the two that you mentioned.
Before I adopted my momma and her two boys I was looking for rescues to
take them. I found two; one required $1,000 surrender fee and the other
was a $3,000 surrender fee. Unfortunately though, and I understand the
financial need to shelters caring for FeLv cats, those two surrender fees
were cost prohibitive.

I am looking forward to learning from this group :-D.

[Felvtalk] Feline Leukemia rescue groups...

2017-06-07 Thread Pam Doore
Hi all, I am with a shelter in Western NY. I have adopted several FE LV+
cats. I was asked if I could take on one more for the shelter and did.
Last night I was asked if I would be willing to take two more from a
neighboring shelter. I was unable to do that and they were euthanized
today. That shelter is not interested in rescue groups or putting any money
or other resources into cats that are Fe Lv+. I am looking to find Fe Lv
rescues that are in the NY/PA/OH areas that I could contact to see if in
the future I could take cats in need to so that they are not euthanized.

Thank you for any suggestions and assistance!!
-Pam
