Re: Bug in FrameMaker 7.2 conditionals?

2007-11-08 Thread Seraphim Larsen
The problem might be when you have *more than one condition* applied to a
particular piece of text. If the system is set to show *any one or more* of
those conditions, the text will be visible.

For example, if you have a piece of text that is intended for ProductA, and
is also intended for Internal audiences only, and so you tagged it with
condition *ProductA *and condition *Internal*, if you show *either one* of
those conditions, it will be visible. So, you might be showing *ProductA *and
*External*, but this particular piece of text will be visible, because
ProductA is set to visible.

It's not a bug, it's a feature. :-)

have 35 conditionals (don't ask!) sprinkled liberally throughout the
 majority of my files.

With the recent additional of new conditionals, I have noticed a
phenomenon where I add some new text in a sentence and make it
conditional, but suddenly other hidden conditionals start displaying as
well. To hide them, I have to keep selecting them and clicking Apply,
or I have to select Show All, and then Show to display only the
 specified conditionals.

Is this a bug? Does FrameMaker only handle a certain number of
conditionals gracefully? Is there something else I should know?

includes new names for paragraph styles in many documents.

A problem with just importing formats is that all the old formats are
left in the files. You'll need to get hold of Paragraph Tools
first. Try this:

1 For each file in the old format create a new empty
file in the new format. (The new file does not
contain any content at all.)

2 In the old file, select all, copy, and paste into the
corresponding file in the new format. This leaves
all the old formats behind and does not contaminate
the Paragraph catalogue, Character catalogue, etc.
in the new format.

3 With Paragraph Tools:
a) Create a list of para tags actually used.
b) Create a list of para tags in the catalogue.
c) Create a conversion table that maps tags
used to tags in catalogue.
d) Rename the tags used to the names in
the catalogue.

4 File Import Format from the current document.

You can do likewise for character formats and table formats
with Character Tools and Table Tools.

Hedley

RE: Possible Frame6+SGML Issue only MIF to Native and OLE graphics

2007-11-08 Thread Dan Vint
This is my understanding of the process and I believe the issue is OLE
although one of the problem files we couldn't pin down an exact problem.
So I think I know what the coarse of action will be - remove all uses of
OLE. But its hard to understand why these documents seemed to work under
dzBatcher doing exactly the same steps. Its this aspect that may give me
trouble in trying to convince people to not do this.

Thanks everyone for the insights provided.

Dan Vint ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) asked:

To support OLE reading the graphic back in, do I need to have
the
original application? This is the primary difference I could
think of.
Out build machine might not have Office for something from
Word for
instance, but that would be common on our personal machines.

As far as I know, OLE requires not only that the originating
application
be installed on every machine that will use the file, but that
it's the
same version of the tool and is installed in a directory of the
same
name in the same relation to the FrameMaker installation. It's
an
unreasonably tall order unless you have a *very* methodical (and
dictatorial...) IT department, which is why it is so risky to
use OLE
embedding rather than simple file linking.

Easiest way to migrate from one FM template to another

2007-11-08 Thread Martinek, Carla
  OK, I'm embarassed. Mea culpa.

I thought I saw it there -- perhaps I had confused it with my own files,
where I just confirmed that I have a copy of TemplateMapper.

Is it Friday yet?

Umm, I don't think so. That site has the free Cudspan plug-ins, but
not TemplateMapper, which Chris always charged for.

Bug in FrameMaker 7.2 conditionals?

How to verify what was the last release of FrameMaker 7.2

2007-11-08 Thread Maxwell Hoffmann
I have a customer who has encountered a "known" bug in FrameMaker 7.2. She
wants to know how to verify whether there was a later patch for FrameMaker 7.2
available than what she has installed.

I did a search in Adobe/User Forum/FrameMaker and was unable to find the answer
to this.

Does anyone know how to verify what was the latest version of FrameMaker 7.2?

Possible Frame6+SGML Issue only MIF to Native and OLE graphics

2007-11-08 Thread Dan Vint
This is my understanding of the process and I believe the issue is OLE
although one of the problem files we couldn't pin down an exact problem.
So I think I know what the coarse of action will be - remove all uses of
OLE. But its hard to understand why these documents seemed to work under
dzBatcher doing exactly the same steps. Its this aspect that may give me
trouble in trying to convince people to not do this.

Thanks everyone for the insights provided.
