[Audyssey] Crash's spin on Raceway trailer

2007-11-04 Thread Gary Whittington
Hii Tom

Here is my spin or thought on trailer.
AS I understand a demo only have just little as possible to make it a quick
download to here is why certain things are left turned off and one tune
plays.
Smiles listing to one ture for 300 miles may casue me to turn right into a
wall.
So, I guess you will have a mult track player.
Fine job on the tune and the other suggestion were good.
Here's a few more and MIDI files player could be a nice option in the game.
That can help in not doing all the tures but able to play our own.
Thinking of driving fast music first comes to mind is
BTO tunes.
Deep Purple tunes from Machine Head. There should be a few keyboard tunes
on that album. Smiles.
Throw in some classics like Queen Champion, Plant and Beck,
Well, I could go through the Alphabet and come back to start again with
Areosmith to ReO Speed Wagon.
Pretty much the 1970 music rock music was not only driven by Sex, drugs but
driving fast in those
Big V8 American Cars and with the 8 track players..
I like to see a way to change tracks or stations and then where the 8 track
player change or where the station being switch when I hit a certain key.
This could be a nice thing to listen to music where you may be way behind
the leader say 15 laps but still need to get points.

Second item
Turning IN the demo it sounds like you have the nack for turning with the
voice, so it sounds like you got the timing down.
What I see or hear is what would be nice is what I saw in the first response
to the thread.
The voice being a turning signal . The problem may be when to turn when one
may be traveling at different speeds and differt place on the track. Is the
turn 10 yeards or a 100 yeards.
It was the phrase Turning Signal. You know that Click, Click, Click
sounds when a driver has the turn Signal turned on.
This sound is suttle enough to give the racer the first indication to start
turning.
This turning Signal can be a great to like in Ten Pin Alley to line up a
shot the car can also be used to help to lineup how to come into a turn.
Say , if the driver want to go low into the turn they would start turning
after a few click. May too that if go into too early the car could end end
up in the infield..
And if you need to ake a high groove cause of traffic the driver would need
to listen for a few more click. Then too many click meanings a date with
the wall.
When to know when at the apex of a turn and when to to start straighting out
the wheels for the straight.
With the click volume could be lower at the start of the turn then loudest
at the center of the turn then lowers the volume when comeing out of the
turn.
The reduntant of North letting me know where the turn is at is nice tool for
driving blind, but to know what angle at a certain speed with the turning
signal would be much better during a full monty of cars.
I understand too that you wanted to get something out there and the Voice
turning may not even be in the final product.

Lastly for the Wall sound effect have an echo may be the way but could be
confusing with may cars on the track.
A little echo could be good, but my thought is this for the Wall and for the
inside of the track boarders.
There are several terms for being to close to the wall, The grey area, the
rough and the ice.
This area of a NaSCAR track becomes dirty with pebbles, track trash, sand
dirt so so on.
Before maying contact with the wall what about a sound of crackleing, pebble
crucning or other sound to give the driver better move down the track a bit
before rubbing the wall. A racer should be able only to run in this area
before something serious happens like running over a bolt or over debris.
Blowing a tire is most likely.
For the sound on the inside of the track. A rumbling sound as though one is
driving up to a toll both.
If both sides of the stereo speakers have this sound then all four whells
are below the white line..
The Yellow line is used for the pit stops, but where not cover that here.
To help guilding your car to the pit would requried a different system of
sounds for sure.

Well, thats my spin on the first trainler for ideas to be added to the game.
So, please Tom no ABBA for the radio is a must!
INstead check IToons for the Vamps and a little tune called
Rev it up! The Vamps was the 90's version of Hear.

PS Don't forget the classic Wedding dance song
Wipe Out!
That was my request at the party.
Crash

Hi Soren,
Angel of Darkness was volume 6 in Edos Tomb Rader series.
Basically, the game picks up after Last Revilation with Lara Croft going
to visit Dr. Von Croy in Paris. However, while she is visiting Von Croy
he is murdered by unknown assassins, and Lara Croft is framed for the
murder. Through the course of the game Lara must find a way to find the
real murderors, clear her name, as well as obtain what they were looking
for. if I am not mistaken they were after some valuable paintings.
One reason the game didn't get as high marks as others is it was more
combat oriented, less puzzle solving, and spent allot of time in Paris
and Prog rather then the normal treasure hunting and puzzle solving we
remembered from games 1 through 5.
Tomb Rader Legends sort of went back to the triditional TR format/story
line, and Anniversary is just a glorified remake of the original game.

Well yeah, you'd obviously have to be using the same programming language.
It'd probably be a royal pain to exchange code and have different people
work on different parts of the project as well without everyone being in a
singular location. I know it's more complicated than I made it sound and
will likely never happen. But we really need to see more dev teams like
lighttech interactive or the guys that made audiogame maker. That's all I'm
saying.

[Audyssey] Raceway answers was USA Raceway trailer.

2007-11-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi everyone,
In order to save posting 100 different emails individually here is my
answers for as many emails as I can in this message.

The Backgroundmusik is bad I think.
End quote

The music you hear in the current trailer won't be the music in the
final version. Probably not even in the first playable version. I have
already started searching for new music. I haven't decided on what kind
of music I will use, but it probably will be something with allot of
rock guitar, high energy, and really hard rock sounding.

Quote
the Sound of the Car is not what I expected from your describtion on the
net.. I hope you can find better carsound and better background musik.
End quote

Well, the car sounds I have are professionally made sounds for Nascar
games produced by a reputable sound designer company. I am not sure I
can do any better than these, but Iwill look. Mind telling me what you
found wrong with the ones I have?

Quote
Yeah, I think there should be some lycenced music. I remember that music

in the trailer before this one and it was nice.
End quote

I still have it on my backup drive somewhere. I believe it was one of
Robert nearies pieces. He plays really hard rocking metal, and if you
liked it I know where to get lots more of his heavy rock pieces. His
music tends to be very energetic with lots of wripping guitar.

Quote
If I could make a suggestion, I feel it might not hurt to allow
players the option to put their own midis in along with the existing
ones in order
for a wider selection. Would something like that be too difficult to
code? If not
End quote

Well, actually Raceway isn't playing the midi files directly. I
converted the midi file to wav, dropped it in the sound directory, and
it played it back in the trailer. However, based on end user input so
far I am not certain any kind of midi is advisable no matter how well I
can play them or not. I think people are looking for a real rock type
sound rather than hearing midi sequenced versions of the songs they know
and love.

Quote
After thinking about my phrasing, I mistyped. Sort of hard to describe,
though. It doesn't have the rock sound I'm used to, no guitars, no lyrics,
and no drums. It's, I guess, different.
End quote

I'm not sure what you mean by no drumbs, but there is certainly drumbs
in the music I created for the trailer. In any case point well taken,
and I will look for something more to the general opinion expressed on
list for something more rocking and upbeat.
Quote
As far as the echo, I like how Jim Kitchen's racing game indicates a turn.
Maybe you could do it that way, but eliminate the noise heard before the
turn. Maybe you could even eliminate the radio announcement that a turn is
coming up on higher skill levels if there are going to be difficulty levels.
End quote

Well, as is stated on the web site there is only one difficulty level.
So if you want the turn indicators disabled they will have to be
disabled in the options menu. Does that sound agreeable?

 Hi,
Well, I do think most of the game of Halo could be converted over to
audio. For copyright issues it probably should be given it's own name,
characters, while keeping some of the basic plot and action.Though, it
 should be doable.
Most of the levels in Halo 1 seam rather 2D with the graphics being 3D,
and I don't recall any instances where you have to do allot of shooting
up, down, and other angles outside a 2D field.

Re: [Audyssey] Crash's spin on Raceway trailer

Hi,

Quote
Smiles Listening to one ture for 300 miles may cause me to turn right into a
 wall.
So, I guess you will have a multitrack player.

End quote

My hope is to have the game cycle through a list of songs. If I use
songs I create I can make several tracks for the game. If I license
music and then there will be considerably less to choose from, but I
hope to make it customisable on this point.
I realise all of us have our own taistes in music weather it is heavy
metal, Country, Wrap, Techno, etc and I want the users eventually to be
able to choose what they want to hear while driving.
For obvious copyright reasons I can not just rip songs like Step And
Wolf's Born To Be Wild, BTO's Let It Roll, the Beach Boy's Fun Fun Fun,
Golden Earings Radar Love, etc off their cds and drop them in. The way
the music industry is about sharing mp3s today that is somewhere I won't go.
However, I can theoretically make the game so you can drop the songs in
and play them on your own.

Quote
MIDI files player could be a nice option in the game.
That can help in not doing all the tures but able to play our own.

End quote

In perspective I think an mp3 or ogg file player might be better since
allot of folks have mp3s of their favorite tunes, and it is better than
searching the net for midis that don't quite have the same quality of
enjoyment.

kind of relative. When Your car reaches a certain spot in the array the
announcement is fired.

At this point I don't have any plans of removing the voice turn signals,

racers that don't want it.

[Audyssey] Cricket and FIFA games

2007-11-04 Thread ari
Hi all,
Just to report, Cricket 2005 is not accessible, there is so much you have to
get right to play the ball, like foot movement, etc, and you can't hear the
bowler bowl. It's really not like 97 where we could have a go, the crowd's
loud, you just are not sure when to play. I'm thinking of trying Sensible
Soccer and Pro Evolution Football, does anyone know whether these are sort of
playable? The new FIFA's are no-nos, as you have to see an arrow moving across
the screen when attempting a shot, and you also have to measure passes. These
days, because of making things realistic, developers have taken many helpful
sound effects away. By the way, on another note, my friend says that on the
Playstation, after learning and his brother helping, he has found strategies to
play Athens 2004, with no inaccessible events.

2007-11-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Soren,
From the blind gamers perspective it is extremely difficult to play
with out sighted help. For example, the game begins with a French
reporter putting out the APB for Lara Croft. After that scene finishes
the game picks up with Lara Croft standing in a vacated back allie in
Paris. You have to go passed this barking dog, jump onto a crate in the
allie, and then climb hand over hand up a drain pipe to the buildings
roof. That is the easy part. From there you have to jump between gaps in
the roof tops, pick up health and ammo reloads, and assuming you make it
there is this guard dude standing outside someones apartment or
something and you have to eliminate him to get inside.
Anyway, the point is those jumps have to be done exactly right or Lara
goes splat on the Paris Streets below. It is not something you or I can
do without sight.

Yes, it is possible to apply pitch changes on effects above and below
the player, but sometimes that isn't always desirable. With certain
sounds beeps, techno sounds, it fits well. However, something like a
step sound or monster growl etc may come out sounding weird or very
strange when the pitch is changed.
For example, let us say there is a bear on the cliff above you. You are
using the bear's growling as the locator for the bear as well as cool
effect. However, if you do a pitch change on the bears growl it might
come out sounding extremely weird and not anything like a bear when the
pitch is changed. In an instant like that pitch change is undesirable.

Subject: [Audyssey] teraformers spoilers

Hi all.
I need some serious spoilers for terraformers.
In poticular the main lab for the northh part of lab.
There are 2 more remaining computer parts.
How to get them is another issue.
in each room there are 2 bots.
well one bot in each room.
I can't seem to target them, even with sonar.
So I get shot, ok, I am in range but now no matter how many shots I
shoot I can not get the bots to get hit.
Not that there is a shortage of amo, I can retreat, however If I
could only get this part done I could move on.
Also once I get to the main computer room I keep getting shocked and dieing.
So I suspect I have a time limit but I can't seem to find the
required part slots, unless I need all parts.
Also in the flooded area, I can't find a second door.
I go through the first one and unlock the gate.
I go through but find no other door, I find 2 more parts but I don't
pick them up on sonar either.
Otherwise I have managed to finnish most of the game.
Are their any solutions files or something on the site, as I really
would like some help now.

Speaking of last crusade, I eventually managed to beat the game.
I saved the game at the point where I was fighting the king and each time I
get killed, I just load the game at that point, because the number of hit
points me and the enemy looses is random.
So I loaded the game until I managed to kill the king.
I found the last crusade on audiogames.net long ago, I don't know if its

Re: [Audyssey] Developer input was Re: James North?

2007-11-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Sean,
Well, yes and no. It is true .NET was designed to share classes and
objects between .NET languages since they compile directly to the same
MSIL language which makes it possible. What you end up having to do in
such a case is put one languages classes in one dll file, another
languages in another dll, and then write the application up in whatever
language you wish in order to share everyones work. While it makes
sharing between .NET languages possible it still isn't advisable from a
programming standpoint.
When programmers work together on a project the first key to
successfully designing anything is standardisation. Standards on how to
format the code, how to comment the code so everyone on the team
understands what person x did, standardised language, etc. For example,
look at the two different styles of a C# function.

// Sample function 1.
private void MyFunction()
{
// Enter code here.
}

// Sample function 2.
private void
myFunction() {
// Enter code here.
}

Both styles are valid styles of coding a [program, but the manner is
such that without an agreed upon standard two very different coders
would drive each other nuts trying to share code. Especially, with
capitalised words. For example, I like to capitalise the m in My and the
F in Function. Some one else might like humpback notation having the m
in my lower case, but the F in Function capatilised. That is two
different standards that would make a project of any complexity unreadable.
Similar things happen with a project that is split among languages.
While it can be done it can be difficult at a later date to maintain.
Especially, if the parties involved aren't able to understand clearly
the other languages he/she isn't working on.
For example, let's say I write all my code in C++ and C#,and my partner
does VB. Ok, we managed to get this killer game made, and I ride off
into the sunset never to be heard from again. My partner wants to make
upgrades to the game, but he/she doesn't know the languages I wrote my
portion of the game in. He/she either needs to rewrite or learn those
languages to be able to edit and upgrade the portion of the game. It
would have been more practical in the beginning to just have agreed upon
one language so we both could access the source for every part of the
project.

Sean Mealin wrote:
Or you could use .net, that would cover vb, c# and others. The beautiful
part is a c# developer can call classes and the such done in vb, and vice
 versa.

Just downloaded beta 4 and am playing it. The only issue is. There's no

tends to hack it down. Wouldn't it be a lot more of a challenge to let
 the skull
get in a certain range and then have the player hack it manually? That
 way people
could decide when to use the swords instead of watching them being
 usedwithout a
chance of saving them for later?

Keep in mind here that Montezuma's Revenge is an atempt at an audio
based clone of a sighted game by the same name. Using swords
automatically is one of the features of the sighted Montezuma's Revenge.
Personally, I would like to manually use the sword myself, but if I
begin making too many changes like that the game will become so unlike
the sighted game that it will no longer be a clone. In fact, I feel I
have made to many changes already to please the customers rather than
 stick to originality.

Hi Soren,
Angel of Darkness was volume 6 in Edos Tomb Rader series.

[Audyssey] Twilight Heroes

2007-11-04 Thread Orin
Hi all,

A new web-based turn based roleplaying game has just came onto the scene due to
an inspired KoL player. He made this game where you have to be a hero and save
twilight. It's like KoL superhero style.

Yes, there's quests, just like in KoL. And yes, he attempted to make the combat
screen look the same, even the frames. But gagetears are cool, they can make
computers. What exactly we can do with these computers, I am unsure. I play KoL
allot, and Jick was talking about this game on the show because since he was a
tester he can talk about it now; it's in public beta.

Check it out at:

Enjoy, still trying to figure out where a mode of transportation is...

2007-11-04 Thread Davy Kager
I don't see the point of limiting the amount of weapons you can get--the
more the better, to my mind.
Alright, but it would force you to go backwards in the game if you need some
more swords. That would definitely increase the complexity and you'd need
more strategy skills.
Also, the fact that I sometimes die right before the end of a level kind of
annoys me. I've been thinking about a system where you will be put back to
halfway through the level if you die after a certain point. That would safe
you from a lot of walking. smile

[Audyssey] Gears of War was James North?

2007-11-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
I haven't yet taken a look at Gears of War myself, but it sounds like
accessibility would be tough. Your example of the spider is an good
example of difficult to program and make accessible. It is hard enough
to get the accessible gamer to point and shoot at a target let alone a
specific spot like a belly etc... I don't disagree it presents a very
interesting challenge, but there is only so much we can do with audio.
It can not and will never be a perfec means of transfering the same kind
of data as sight does.
It is kind of like trying to tell a blind person from birth what colors
are. Without true sight they have no real unhderstanding of yellow,
green, white, and so on. We can describe them as hot or cold, cool,
warm, happy or sad, but those are physical and emotional sensations
without the visual description you can only get with sight.

Shadow Dragon wrote:
It'd be sheer luck if you could. Its not accessible at all. Killing the
bigger monsters especially would be impossible. You might be able to get a
few lucky shots in here and there but I doubt it'd hold. It'd be like
walking around in Halo with the trigger held down. I'd love to see an
accessible version of Gears of War though.

For those that don't know, Gears of War is a game that came out a year or so
back for the PC, XBox360 and I think maybe the ps3, though I'm not entirely
certain. Basically the human race has expanded into space and has
terraformed and colonized other planets. One of the planets they hit,
however, apparently didn't appreciate being colonized. These monsters of all
shapes and sizes, called the locust hoard, come bursting up from the ground,
and start destroying cities and waging war on humanity. For a while we've
got the upper hand, but then they pull out all the stops and the game kind
of starts you off after humanity's pretty much been totally decimated.
Basically you play as this agent guy that's supposed to be humanity's last
hope. Some of the monsters in that game are freaking amazing. I remember
listening to my brother fighting this gigantic armored spider. And by
gigantic I mean somewhere in the range of 15 feet tall, maybe bigger,
absolutely huge in diameter, and so well armored that if I remember right,
its only vulnerable spot was its underbelly. I love strategic elements like
this, since you can't just open up on full auto and hope to defeat it. I
really hope we can see something like this come to the Accessible Games
 community sometime in the future.

 Hi all,
Just to report, Cricket 2005 is not accessible, there is so much you have
to get right to play the ball, like foot movement, etc, and you can't hear
the bowler bowl. It's really not like 97 where we could have a go, the
crowd's loud, you just are not sure when to play. I'm thinking of trying
Sensible Soccer and Pro Evolution Football, does anyone know whether these
are sort of playable? The new FIFA's are no-nos, as you have to see an
arrow moving across the screen when attempting a shot, and you also have
to measure passes. These days, because of making things realistic,
developers have taken many helpful sound effects away. By the way, on
another note, my friend says that on the Playstation, after learning and
his brother helping, he has found strategies to play Athens 2004, with no
 inaccessible events.

 Hi Everyone:
Where can I get The Blind Eye? Also, I downloaded some other vehicles and
tracks from Audiogames.net. How do I go about adding them to Top Speed 2?
X-Sight Interactive had many more mods for TS2, but it is no longer
functioning. Can I get more elsewhere?

Re: [Audyssey] Raceway answers was USA Raceway trailer.

2007-11-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Claudio,

Quote
If i accelerate in need for speed the sound of the car will get higher
and higher
like rail racer.
That's not so in your game.
End quote

As I mentioned in an earlier post on this very same subject this will be
changing once I go to work on Raceway full time. I do not plan to leave
the car as is. It isn't the car sounds at fault, but I simply have not
put in place the rate/frequency shifts to simulate the car accelerating
and decelerating as it will when this game is released for a public
demo. There are reasons I haven't put the game out as a playable demo,
and the reason is allot of the things people have been suggesting,
bringing up, etc simply have not been introduced yet. I guess by
releasing the trailer allot of people got the impression the game is
further along in development than it really is. There are hundreds of
miner and major things left to do before I even put it out as a demo.
I've learned one lesson from this experience is not to release a trailer
on a half baked pre-Alpha. Far too many people drew the wrong
conclusions about the game, and I only hope it won't hurt ssales, or
scare end users off when the game is further along in development.
Comparing an unfinished game like Raceway to say Need For Speed is a bit
unfair in my opinion, because Need For Speed is complete and Raceway is
barely playable. I don't plan to release a demo until next spring
earliest and summer latest so there is allot of work from now until then
that needs done.

Actually Ron, the place you mean is Colnea. To the best of my knowledge
Kirnwell isn't even playable aside from that mission from Thane Pyrond.

It ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you with no place to go.

Hi Daniel,

Will USARaceWay have multiplayer capabilities later on?
End quote

Way to soon to know that yet. I am just still trying to get the tracks
and driving working let alone stuff like there will be network play etc.
To be canded here I think version 1.is likely to be pretty bare bones.
I'll see how sales go before I jump over backwards and do everything
Rail Racer does, Topspeed, etc. I haven't recieved a dime for this
project, and I have already lost $4000 on this game, because James North
kept the initial capital for the game which was suppose to be for
development. So gamers need to understand if they want more features
they will have to buy units, and give me some operating capital or I
will do the best I can and just get it out there to settle the $4000
taken for pre-orders and get myself off the hook.
over the passed few months i have come to hate the deal I made with
James North, and it is for that reason I've been less interested in
going all out on these two games. Sure I will do the best I can, but
remember I won't be making breakthrough sales. I'm no longer certain I
made the right choice in taking them over. I know I would be further
ahead right now if I hadn't taken on this responcibility.

Re: [Audyssey] Gears of War was James North?

2007-11-04 Thread Shadow Dragon
Not entirely true. What you could do is have the spider walking around in
stereo, and when you're locked onto it it makes a sound of some kind, like a
beep, but when you're locked onto the vulnerable spot the beep increases in
pitch. It wouldn't be too hard given the size of the creature, and we've
already seen examples of 3d gun movement. It'd be very challenging, but I'm
almost certain something like it could be done. I don't know anything about
programming physics or 3d environments, but I do know from experience that
almost anything conveyed through imagery can be conveyed through audio or
force feedback. Just my thoughts on the matter though. I should probably
learn something about programming before I make judgement calls on the
diffaculty of things, lol.

Hi Tom,

Why does the music for RaceWay have to be only from the 70's/80's? More
importantly, why does it have to be something you could play on your keyboard?
Are you joking? You'd think that Rock music would normally be the theme for a
race, something that can really get you into it. That's one feature I
definitely liked about RailRacer is that you could play your own music.
Just curious. Sorry if it came out rude..

Re: [Audyssey] Cricket and FIFA games

2007-11-04 Thread ari
Hi Soren,
What I used to do with the earlier FIFA's is that you listen to passes,
crowds, and you use soccer logic. What I mean, I'm Liverpool, I know that
Hamman plays in the centre of midfield, so when he gets the ball, I expect
him to be in that position, and so try and can iether pass to the side or
back, or forward, or, if brave, try and run. A lot of the time he is out of
position, and I end up passing the ball out!, but that's part of the sort of
fun. You have to listen to the crowd, if they are louder, you're nearer the
oponent's goal, and can try and have a shot. The commentator might say your
name louder. I don't know about the new fifa's, but with 2002 till 2004, I
don't think they could really be played, since the sound effects of the ball
were softer, the commentator didn't say the names much, and, most important,
you couldn't really hear tackles. I'm surprised that your friend can play
2006 and 2007, no judgment here, but I've heard that to shoot you have to
hold the d in and then let go when you see the arrow or angle at the right
place in the goal. Iether it's not as visual as I've heard, or, if your
friend is totally blind, I'd love to know how he gets his shots on target,
and not sailing wide, since I think they were using this on fifa 2004, and I
couldn't play it, since I could run, but everytime I shot, it went wide,
please ask him what he does, would be very interesting. Of course the bad
thing about the FIFA games is that you definitely need sighted assistance,
because you can only move through menues and go to the next matches using
the mouse. I've decided to buy Pro Evolution and Sensible soccer, will tell
you if I can play them, talking about taking risks! One hint I can give you
is, if you want, for example fifa 2007, wait till 2008 comes out, then
2007's price absolutely falls, so you sort of can take a gamble without
regreting it too much.
I do think that us blind football players should try and network to find
solutions.
Ari

Hi Ari.

I'll ask him how he play the game. As I know, you can just use the arrow
keys in the menus in the newer games.
Fifa 2008 is already out, and my friend told me the sound of the ball is
louter in this game. By the way, you should be able to turn down the volume
of the croud in the sound options menu.
I'll find out how he plays the game, maybee try it on my own, and let you
know how it works.
Do you have a playstation? I think it's easyer to play on a ps2.

 you
is, if you want, for example fifa 2007, wait till 2008 comes out, then

 Hi all,
If anyone has any of these text games, could they please attach them for
 me, or get in touch.
 1. The World Is Mine
 2. WORLD
 3. Supernova.
 4. Landing Party.
 5. The Path To Fortune.
 6. Time: All Things Come To An End.
 7. Supreme Ruler.
Another question, if there's a blind child who is 8 years old, where can I
find some games for her to learn from and enjoy, not just educational, but
where do I get very easy text stuff, does such thing exist?
 Thanks

Rock music would work, or country music, as this game is NASCAR oriented.
Copyright issues might come into play, though.

 Hi Tom,

Why does the music for RaceWay have to be only from the 70's/80's? More
importantly, why does it have to be something you could play on your
keyboard? Are you joking? You'd think that Rock music would normally be
the theme for a race, something that can really get you into it. That's
one feature I definitely liked about RailRacer is that you could play your
 own music.
Just curious. Sorry if it came out rude..

 Hi Soren,
What I used to do with the earlier FIFA's is that you listen to passes,
crowds, and you use soccer logic. What I mean, I'm Liverpool, I know that
Hamman plays in the centre of midfield, so when he gets the ball, I expect
him to be in that position, and so try and can iether pass to the side or
back, or forward, or, if brave, try and run. A lot of the time he is out
 of
position, and I end up passing the ball out!, but that's part of the sort
 of
fun. You have to listen to the crowd, if they are louder, you're nearer
 the
oponent's goal, and can try and have a shot. The commentator might say
 your
name louder. I don't know about the new fifa's, but with 2002 till 2004, I
don't think they could really be played, since the sound effects of the
 ball
were softer, the commentator didn't say the names much, and, most
 important,
you couldn't really hear tackles. I'm surprised that your friend can play
2006 and 2007, no judgment here, but I've heard that to shoot you have to
hold the d in and then let go when you see the arrow or angle at the right
place in the goal. Iether it's not as visual as I've heard, or, if your
friend is totally blind, I'd love to know how he gets his shots on target,
and not sailing wide, since I think they were using this on fifa 2004, and
 I
couldn't play it, since I could run, but everytime I shot, it went wide,
please ask him what he does, would be very interesting. Of course the bad
thing about the FIFA games is that you definitely need sighted assistance,
because you can only move through menues and go to the next matches using
the mouse. I've decided to buy Pro Evolution and Sensible soccer, will
 tell
you if I can play them, talking about taking risks! One hint I can give
 you
is, if you want, for example fifa 2007, wait till 2008 comes out, then

[Audyssey] memory lapse? - Re: Raceway answers was USA Raceway trailer.

I listened to the trailer again, and, yep, there are the drums. Not sure

 Hi everyone,
In order to save posting 100 different emails individually here is my
answers for as many emails as I can in this message.

 Quote

I remember that music
 you had
in the trailer before this one and it was nice.

Sort of hard to describe,
though. It doesn't have the rock sound I'm used to, no guitars, no
 lyrics,
and no drums.

Maybe you could do it that way, but eliminate the noise heard before the
turn. Maybe you could even eliminate the radio announcement that a turn
 is
coming up on higher skill levels if there are going to be difficulty
 levels.
 End quote

Well, as is stated on the web site there is only one difficulty level.
So if you want the turn indicators disabled they will have to be
disabled in the options menu. Does that sound agreeable?

Re: [Audyssey] Crash's spin on Raceway trailer

2007-11-04 Thread Charles Rivard
Once a car runs across old tire rubber and other debris along the wall,
known as the marbles, you're most likely to lose traction, and into the
wall you go! Sometimes, suttle use of the wheel can help, most of the time,
though, you're in for a wild ride.

 Hi,

 Quote
Smiles Listening to one ture for 300 miles may cause me to turn right
 into a

The way
the music industry is about sharing mp3s today that is somewhere I won't
 go.
However, I can theoretically make the game so you can drop the songs in
and play them on your own.

 Quote
MIDI files player could be a nice option in the game.
That can help in not doing all the tures but able to play our own.

 End quote

In perspective I think an mp3 or ogg file player might be better since
allot of folks have mp3s of their favorite tunes, and it is better than
searching the net for midis that don't quite have the same quality of
 enjoyment.

 Quote
Thinking of driving fast music first comes to mind is
 BTO tunes.
Deep Purple tunes from Machine Head. There should be a few keyboard
 tunes
 on that album. Smiles.
Throw in some classics like Queen Champion, Plant and Beck,
Well, I could go through the Alphabet and come back to start again with
 Aerosmith to ReO Speed Wagon.

 End quote

This is why at some point an built in mp3 player might be good. You
could wrip these to mp3 using gold wave drop them, in and race and rock
 away.

 Quote
Turning IN the demo it sounds like you have the nack for turning with
 the
voice, so it sounds like you got the timing down.
What I see or hear is what would be nice is what I saw in the first
 response
 to the thread.
The voice being a turning signal . The problem may be when to turn when
 one
may be traveling at different speeds and differt place on the track. Is
 the
 turn 10 yeards or a 100 yeards.
It was the phrase Turning Signal. You know that Click, Click, Click
sounds when a driver has the turn Signal turned on.
This sound is suttle enough to give the racer the first indication to
 start
 turning.

 End quote

Well, I can look into the possability of adding a true turning signal in
the game. As far as distance the way tracks are designed distance is
kind of relative. When Your car reaches a certain spot in the array the
 announcement is fired.

 Quote
I understand too that you wanted to get something out there and the Voice
turning may not even be in the final product.
 End quote

At this point I don't have any plans of removing the voice turn signals,
but I will probably add to the options menu a feature to disable it for
 racers that don't want it.

 Quote
Lastly for the Wall sound effect have an echo may be the way but could be
confusing with many cars on the track.
A little echo could be good, but my thought is for the Wall and for the
 inside of the track boarders.
There are several terms for being to close to the wall, The grey area,
 the
 rough and the ice.
This area of a NaSCAR track becomes dirty with pebbles, track trash, sand
 dirt so so on.
Before making contact with the wall what about a sound of crackleing,
 pebble
crunching or other sound to give the driver better move down the track a
 bit
 before rubbing the wall.
 End quote

I've already got a sound in place for this. You won't hit a wall before
your engine gets loud, you will hear ruff surface, and once ff support
goes in your controller will be rumbling like mad on a rough surface.
 Cheers.

I would like to point out something here that I have noticed time and
time
again on this list and has more than once made me consider joining the
ranks
of the developers that don't bother subscribing even though this is one
of
the very few gaming lists available out there.
When a topic that derives negativity is posted, people come out of the

woodwork to comment on it, but when I post a message asking for
commentary
or suggestions for a new online RPG game, something that is potentially
revolutionary and has not been done before, something that I have proven
I
can do based on the features of Rail Racer, I get maybe 3 or 4
responses. I
don't know if this is due to the average age of the members of this
list, or
just the general indifference people have toward putting some effort in
helping grow our little community, but it is very disturbing to say the
least.
I will leave it to other developers to comment on their own
experiences if
they wish, but for me, the response to Rail Racer was overall a
dissapointment. The demo was downloaded over 2000 times, with around
200
sales to date. Most of the time I get comments like It is too hard to
learn or I don't want to put the time into figuring out how to get
good
lap times. I just don't get this. Gamers ask for deepr games with
more
replay value, and when it is delivered, they shy away from it. Rail
Racer,
like any endeavor that is richly rewarding is not a game you jump in and

start doing well at at first. You have to work at it a bit, but that
time
and effort will be rewarded, just ask anyone that is currently playing
in
the RR tournaments.
Please don't get me wrong, I really appreciate those that have offered

their support, both in ideas , suggestions and by buying my game, but
the
amount of complaints about difficulty and the posts on other forums
regarding trying to crack my hard work are about equal to the number of
supportive posts. This is not the way to a healthy and thriving gaming
community folks.
I am afraid this is a hard lesson that USA Games is about to find out
when
they release their first commercial game hopefully later this year.
Based
on the amount of enthusiasm shown on list for the free beta versions, I
hope
not however, I do not wish any develop the demoralizing experience of
dealing with the negativity towards their work I have had to endure.
I wonder if a gaming list devoted to adults only, where the overall
level
of discussion might be on a higher level would be beneficial to the
gaming
community.
There are a few hundred members of this list, something like that?
But
look at the statistics Jim put out, there are only about a dozen members

actually posting much, that is very disappointing.
On the topic of North, I came into the party pretty late, right at
the
time he left the list in fact, so all I know about him are the actions
he
took from that time on, and as Thomas has said, perhaps I only got the
Mr.
Hyde side of things, but if any of you think that James North was a good

samaritan for handing over the rights to Raceway and Montazuma's
Revenge,
think again. He was only hoping to hold onto the pre order money he had

already collected, several thousand dollars worth in fact. Thomas was
stuck with code he had to completely rewrite, resulting in him
ultimately
giving away several thousand dollars worth of sales for all his hard
work,
and hoping that the post release sales will be worth it. North pulled
one
there, no matter how you cut it, and I have read some of his comments
about
the blind commmunity posted elsewhere, and trust me, they are less than
flattering, basically calling us a bunch of bozos. As far as I know, no

comment I made about North was ever read by him, so I had nothing to do
with
his quitting the AG community, but back to my first point, people on
list
are too worried about jumping on one bandwagon or another on this list,
and
not concerned enough with giving us developers potential support.
Please remember, this community is only as good as we make it, and
developers cannot make it without the communities help.

Re: [Audyssey] Raceway answers was USA Raceway trailer.

2007-11-04 Thread Charles Rivard
Only hundreds of changes?? As I see it, I've waited for a long time for
this game to co me out, and waiting will not kill me, or even bother me.
Because of the very nature of game development, I know it will take time,
and I hope that most people realize that a trailer for a game never means
that the game is nearing completion. Making a comparison between any game
under development and a finished product is totally unrealistic.
Suggestions can be made as to features you like in a finished game being
incorporated into the game in progress to boost sales and playability,
though, and are probably welcomed by the developer who can possibly check
out the finished game and see how the suggested features work.

 Hi Claudio,

That's
one feature I definitely liked about RailRacer is that you could play
 your
 own music.
Just curious. Sorry if it came out rude..

Hi Claudio,

 Hi Soren,
What I used to do with the earlier FIFA's is that you listen to passes,
crowds, and you use soccer logic.
One hint I can give
 you
is, if you want, for example fifa 2007, wait till 2008 comes out, then
2007's price absolutely falls, so you sort of can take a gamble without
 regreting it too much.
I do think that us blind football players should try and network to find
 solutions.
 Ari

Re: [Audyssey] Cricket and FIFA games

2007-11-04 Thread ari
Hi Jimmy andd Soren,
I'm applying to play hattrick again. I didn't enjoy it last time, since the
page kept on refreshing, but now if I use Firefox it seems better.
Unfortunately, I don't have a playstation, I'll have to play it with PC.
I'll wait till next year before getting 2008, can't spend so much money and
find out I don't enjoy it. I still love 99, but it's a bit easy since I've
worked out strategies, and if I put it on normal or hard, no chance, 16-0!
You need sight for those levels, as you don't have enough time to digest the
sound.

Best regards:
Søren Jensen
