what about keep the email up there but just have an internal program
do the calculations and put them in an html file or php with the
results you can upload.

At 06:31 p.m. 14/05/2012 +0200, you wrote:

Hi Quentin,

I actually thought about a PHP solution, but came to the same

look at other alternatives for the next competition though as you suggest.

As for Jim's statistics posts, I haven't actually read those -
believe it or not. Smile. Numbers scare me. But seriously, I'll
think it through for the next one and try to come up with a method
that works for everyone.

I can see your point, but my problem is that I don't really have

enough time to assemble a detailed diagram of all these statistics. What
I will do, however,
is for the next competition make it so that the votes go into a database
where I can easily retrieve all of this information. As I have it now,
since I
received the votes by email, it'd take a long time to get it as detailed
as that. It's something I'll think about next time though, for sure. I
just didn't
imagine that people would be interested in this, so I didn't plan for
that eventuality. I thought that an announcement of the ranks would be
enough. I
intend running another similar competition (probably with the same
criteria) either later this year or early in 2013, and then I'll take
this into consideration
from the start.

OK, don't worry then. Don't waste hours to do that if you can't fetch
again data easily. I know that it's very boring to do.

Small suggestion for the next time: you could make a vote page
containing a web form and little php coding, so that all results go
automatically stored into a database, and so that you can get the
results in a few seconds.
Of course the disadvantage of this solution is, cheating is much easier...

I'm a little surprised that you simply didn't think about that. People
generally like numbers and statistics, and whould like to know how
things are calculated and what were intermediate results. A simple way
to see that people like numbers: Jim's monthly posting report.

Actually Orin, it's not your hardware at all.

I heard zombi growls in the review of 1.9, but not in the current version,
so i assumed they'd been removed or toned down. I've actually had to
completely mute other players' steps and just use the ping to tell where
other players are to give me best chance of hereing a zombi, but I just

BTW, Aprone, is there a way you could implement the NVDA API DLL so that

Re: [Audyssey] Entombed dungeons

2012-05-16 Thread dark

spoilage ahoy!

the Drake is pretty much the end of the demo version, once you've defeated
it and gone down the stairs you've finished the demo. The full version
however has 25 dungeon floors, each of which getting larger as you go down
(floor 25 is gigantic!).

For the drake, well the best advice I can give is that in a long fight, you
should concentrate on anything that stops the drake damaging you and keeps
your party alive while you whittle it down.

any useful scrolls such as confusion, slow use, and if you've got a curse
scroll your laughing, even things like web and sleep have a chance of
working, though the drake is pretty resistant.

Also make sure one member of your party is on healing duty with potions.
Lastly, if your using melee attacks, remember that a dragon's skin is very
hard, so you'll need hard weapons like Iron or stone to go through it,
something like wood will do no good at all (one reason why ranged weapons,
and the ranger class generally aren't too useful in the game).

Iceblast and lightning bolt also help a lot, as does shrinking the drake
sinse any turn you can knock the drake to the floor is a turn the drake will
spend getting up rather than hurting you.

Hth.

All the best,

Dark.

everything should be exactly the same as it was before.

I'll keep my eyes open for any other reasons that people are

Having a wireless mouse and keyboard, I find myself the best way of doing
things is to have the keyboard on my lap with my left hand on the keys, and
the mouse along the front of my desk with my right hand so that I've got the
full front of my desk to move it along and my right hand is very mobile.

I actually originally started firing with my left hand, sinse it felt more
natural as I'm used to playing mainstream games with a joystick in my left
hand and my right on the attack buttons, but I found I needed my left hand
in typing position to hit all the needed keys, so I swiched, and don't
regret doing it.

Weapons wise, I haven't found the silencer too useful thus far sinse it
takes so many shots to drop a zombi, by which time all of it's mates are
after you.

my favourite weapon thus far is the winchester rifle, I really get a kick
out of playing sniper from a distance, then sneaking off somewhere else. I'm
looking forward to finding a scope.

Btw, is there a way to actually enter the trucks and abandoned cars to use
them as firing points? I've noticed there is a big concentration of zombies
around the streets, and a place to hide would be helpful.

Thanks Paul. Actually the zombie speed bug was a very minor issue so don't
downplay your skills too much. It only affected Tyrants I believe, and they
are already slow to begin with. They aren't any faster now than they used
to be, all I did was put them back to what they have been at all along. The
2.4 update had cut their speed by 90% while I was testing some stuff.

And just when I thought I was getting
really good at swamp it turns out it
was just the zombies giving me a chance and going slower,
 but their making
up for it now. Still love this game excellent work Jeremy
 and especially all
the extra time you put in with all the updates. Thanks for
 an awesome game

hi dark, i will have to get me a wireless mouse as i do find the wire
does get in the way lol, have you tried the m40? it only has 1 round
but you cover a longer range with it. don't know about the trucks and
cars, but the train in the second map is quite good.

I actually originally started firing with my left hand, sinse it felt more
natural as I'm used to playing mainstream games with a joystick in my left

in typing position to hit all the needed keys, so I swiched, and don't
 regret doing it.

I've noticed there is a big concentration of zombies

around the streets, and a place to hide would be helpful.

tips on using the mouse when firing, what i do is to have the mouse in
front of me and have both hands on the desk close together so i limit
the mouse movement between my 2 hands whilst centring the footsteps to
fire at them, i have noticed this is a good way of not accidently
hitting the fire button when running round the maps and especially
effective when in buildings. i have found that a silencer is a must
with this new version as you can take out a zombie without alerting
the others too much around the unfortunate critter you are focused on.

I must admit growls would be nice, sinse right now I don't really know

 Hi all,

I believe when I played in 2.3, Zombies when coming toward you would
 growl

as they came. Why has this been removed? I was in the gas station
 parking

lot and heard them or at least one, so I centered the footsteps as best

 as

I could and fired. I missed so it ran faster and i couldn't tel whether

 it

was running away or toward me, plus other player footsteps were in the
background. I wonder if it's my headphones and e not being able to
 center

things, my mouse cencitivity or maybe there's a delay with Vmware
 Fusion
though I doubt that because there are good Swamp players using virtual
 machines.
BTW, Aprone, is there a way you could implement the NVDA API DLL so
 that
Swamp could support System access/SA or SA to GO?
 Thanks.

Hi Dark,
If you're being told you have the wrong password, it's likely because
someone has already taken the name Dark. There have been player wipes
between certain versions, and it's possible that someone slipped in and

Hi.

I decided to give swamp more of a propper go, however when I try to log
in
with the dark account which I created a very long time ago (several
versions), I can't, i keep getting told I've got the wrong password.

this is weerd sinse I always! use the same password. Sinse I'd obviously
like to be Dark on swamp as indeed anywhere else, I was wondering if
there
is a way to reset my password, heck I don't mind if Aprone deletes the

of
actual play on there and I hadn't got anywhere at all.

I would however obviously like to play as dark on the game, so if Aprone

HI,

Unless you have copied over your previous files, you can open an old
progress.ini file. In there is your user name and password. See if that
helps.

Otherwise, it is possible your account did get wiped from 1.8 to 1.9 or so

Re: [Audyssey] Swamp: Zombie Growls?

2012-05-16 Thread dark

Hi simon.

I've not really tried the m40 yet, I'm still waiting on some of the weapons,
though it's always fun to see what turns up.

As to map 2, I've not been on their either, where is the entrance? Also,
what are the level requirements? I'm still level 2, though will be level 3
soon, but I'm not sure if that's high enough to reach the 2nd map, however
it would be interesting to have somewhere else to explore.

About the mouse, it's not the lack of a wire that makes it useful I find,
it's the fact that it's infra red, so I don't have to worry about pushing an
actual mouse ball around at all. This makes aiming and firing very quick and
easy.

It came with my wireless usb keyboard, and I've not really used it, but with
how good it is on swamp I don't think i'd want to go back to a standard
mouse after this.

All the best,

Dark.

Hey Dark,

It's level 8 to get on to map 2, but definitely worth putting in the
graft to get there as the second map safe zone has a few cooler things
to buy (better armour, some other weapons, scopes and silencers etc).
Whenever you get to level 8, head for the boarded up business, there's
a sewer pipe there that will take you through to map 2. Hint: take
plenty of medkits, a silenced weapon if you have one, and pay close
attention to figure out the quickest route through the sewers. It can
get pretty busy, so you'll want to find a route to get you through as
quickly as possible and stick to it each time you need to switch maps.

much better place for getting weapons and the like but when you start
exploring the hospital it can be dornting at first, i believe you have
to be level 7 or 8 to progress to map 2, its great fun when you get
there though.

About the mouse, it's not the lack of a wire that makes it useful I

it's the fact that it's infra red, so I don't have to worry about pushing

 All the best,

The confusion about the zomnbies seems to be generic. As a
general overall, tyrants and matriarchs have the most hp, and the
dogs have the least. Everything elspe is in the middle, but
giants have slightly more than others (about one round of 9 mm).

I heard zombi growls in the review of 1.9, but not in the current

to
completely mute other players' steps and just use the ping to

I must admit growls would be nice, sinse right now I don't really

I find that turning off player footsteps is the only way to
accurately aim at zombies. If the zombie starts walking faster,
it's seen you. This is easy to pick up on when player steps are
off.

Re: [Audyssey] Swamp: Zombie Growls?

2012-05-16 Thread john

Silencers:
As you play more (and start doing missions) they're the only way
to go. The problem with firing without a silencer is that the
other zombies will here you. If your not right on top of them,
you can easily take out a tyrant with your silenced pistol and
slip off. Better yet, reload and finish the group. They do take a
bit of skill to use properly (particularly with tyrants as they
can take a full clip of g19 ammo).
If you like the winchester, you'll love the m40. Yes, the ammo
costs almost four times as much, but it's got a scope and a very
distinctive hit sound, and can usually drop any creature in one
hit. I personally find that I prefer the mp5 to the winchester
though, as it's got the same range, about the same noise level
and a much faster firing rate and much larger clip size. It does
take a few more hits to bring something down, but the main
advantage that the winchester has is the scope.

You can't get in the cars. I personally find that the train gives
you a very limited scope of vision, and it's easy for the zombies

As to map 2, I've not been on their either, where is the
entrance? Also,
what are the level requirements? I'm still level 2, though will
be level 3
soon, but I'm not sure if that's high enough to reach the 2nd
map, however

it would be interesting to have somewhere else to explore.

About the mouse, it's not the lack of a wire that makes it useful
I find,
it's the fact that it's infra red, so I don't have to worry about
pushing an
actual mouse ball around at all. This makes aiming and firing
very quick and

easy.

It came with my wireless usb keyboard, and I've not really used
it, but with
how good it is on swamp I don't think i'd want to go back to a
standard

mouse after this.

All the best,

Dark.

I find that the zombie concentration is random. They like some of
the areas, but if you have speed and sneak maxed you shouldn't
have much of a problem. They don't really group along the main
rout.

Hey Dark,

It's level 8 to get on to map 2, but definitely worth putting in
the
graft to get there as the second map safe zone has a few cooler
things
to buy (better armour, some other weapons, scopes and silencers
etc).
Whenever you get to level 8, head for the boarded up business,
there's
a sewer pipe there that will take you through to map 2. Hint:
take
plenty of medkits, a silenced weapon if you have one, and pay
close
attention to figure out the quickest route through the sewers. It
can
get pretty busy, so you'll want to find a route to get you
through as
quickly as possible and stick to it each time you need to switch
maps.

I'm not in front of Swamp at the moment, but from memory the sewer

To be honest, I didn't check it out before getting to level 8, so not

HI,

Unless you have copied over your previous files, you can open an old
progress.ini file. In there is your user name and password. See if that
helps.

Otherwise, it is possible your account did get wiped from 1.8 to 1.9 or so

Hi Dark,
If you're being told you have the wrong password, it's likely because
someone has already taken the name Dark. There have been player wipes
between certain versions, and it's possible that someone slipped in and
stole the name out from under you.

[Audyssey] Swamp Rumor control

2012-05-16 Thread Jeremy Kaldobsky
I'm pasting this over from Audiogames.net.

I've been getting bombarded with messages about zombie growls, zombie speeds,
and the difficulty of the missions in 2.5. I have been answering them
individually because I thought I had already posted a message about it publicly
but I'm starting to think I only planned to write one but never did! Oops!

To set the record straight, zombie growls were not removed. I have no idea why
they stopped playing in 2.5 and I am still looking for a way to fix it. The
normal growling code hasn't been touched so it has to be some type of internal
conflict with something else. I just can't think of anything else I've changed
that would have anything to do with the growls.

After typing that last sentence imagine me getting an idea and running off for
10 minutes. Now I have returned to continue typing.

Well I figured out why zombies weren't growling and it will be fixed for the
next update. I guess all it took was for me to stop LOOKING for it and type
this message so that my brain could work on the problem from a different angle.
It's funny how you'll solve a problem the minute you stop trying to.

The speed of the zombies has not been increased. The message in the 2.5
changelog has confused a lot of people and many seem to believe that the
zombies are now faster than they used to be. I'll explain exactly what
happened.

While I was working on what was going to be version 2.4, I was working on a new
method for generating the Swamp sounds. One of these would be a feature that
will let people boost the volume on one side of their headphones. The idea is
to help people who have some hearing loss in one ear. Testing it was tricky
because there are so many zombies around so I set a map to have only a single
Tyrant that I could listen to as it walked around. I got annoyed because it
kept getting too close and I'd have to stop my tests and run away so I added in
a line of code saying that Tyrants would walk at only 10% of their normal speed
but that their footsteps wouldn't change. So I was able to hear the normal
number of foot step sounds but it was taking it 10 times longer to actually get
close to me. When I posted version 2.4 I had forgotten to remove that line of
code. When I fixed this in version 2.5 it only removed that extra line of
code, thus bringing Tyrants
back up to their normal speed. None of the other zombies were ever affected
and everything is now back to the speed they've been since ancient Swamp
versions. smile

I've received dozens and dozens of skype messages and emails about the
missions. The rumor network for Swamp is a powerful force, and the messages
people write me are usually affected by them. Messages start off asking is
missions were changed at all. Someone in Swamp will say they think missions
were changed, later someone will take that and say they heard missions were
changed. Someone asks if there are more zombies so naturally 10 minutes later
people are assuring each other that the missions have more zombies and each
person heard if from a different source. It's a little funny to see how the
rumors unfold, but it is also odd how people hold to them even after I explain
things. This explanation got a bit longer than I planned but I was leading in
to an example of what I'm talking about. Someone skypes to tell me that it was
a bad idea to make the missions harder and to make the zombies faster in them.
I explain that the zombies aren't any
faster and the missions were never changed. I'm assured that they were
because they heard that from so-and-so and they know it's true. I explain
again that neither of those things were changed. I'm told OK, but why did you
change them in the first place?! as if I just said I'd change them back
instead of me saying that I never changed them to begin with. ROFL! People
are very weird.

Anyway, back to my original post. Sorry about that huge side note that got out
of control.

The missions have not been changed at all. I haven't touched that code in
several versions but I even went in to double check just in case. There is
still the same number of zombies in each mission as there has been for a long
long time. The zombies weren't made any smarter, their random spawns are still
the same, and they aren't any stronger or faster. I don't have an answer to
why so many people feel they've had extra difficult missions lately, but I can
tell you it isn't anything different with the code.

I can actually say that with more confidence than I ever could in the past.
90% of the code I've added over the past 3 weeks has been nothing but security
fixes so it's very easy for me to remember the handful of things I've changed
in the actual game.

Well hopefully this will help clear stuff up. I've been short on free time for
the past day or two but when I can get back to coding I will try to finish up
the next update as quickly as I can. I

I guess I just need to pay more attention. Would it be possible
for you just to upload a new patch with the growling fix? I have
a sneaking suspicion that it's part of the reason people are
saying the zombies are faster (that most likely includes me) and
missions are harder. I know that I personally listen for the
growls a lot, and their absence (though not noticed) did manage
to kill me off and surprise my other character quite a few times.

Subject: [Audyssey] Swamp Rumor control

I'm pasting this over from Audiogames.net.

I've been getting bombarded with messages about zombie growls,
zombie speeds, and the difficulty of the missions in 2.5. I have
been answering them individually because I thought I had already
posted a message about it publicly but I'm starting to think I
only planned to write one but never did! Oops!

To set the record straight, zombie growls were not removed. I
have no idea why they stopped playing in 2.5 and I am still
looking for a way to fix it. The normal growling code hasn't
been touched so it has to be some type of internal conflict with
something else. I just can't think of anything else I've changed
that would have anything to do with the growls.

After typing that last sentence imagine me getting an idea and
running off for 10 minutes. Now I have returned to continue
typing.

Well I figured out why zombies weren't growling and it will be
fixed for the next update. I guess all it took was for me to
stop LOOKING for it and type this message so that my brain could
work on the problem from a different angle. It's funny how
you'll solve a problem the minute you stop trying to.

The speed of the zombies has not been increased. The message in
the 2.5 changelog has confused a lot of people and many seem to
believe that the zombies are now faster than they used to be.
I'll explain exactly what happened.

While I was working on what was going to be version 2.4, I was
working on a new method for generating the Swamp sounds. One of
these would be a feature that will let people boost the volume on
one side of their headphones. The idea is to help people who
have some hearing loss in one ear. Testing it was tricky because
there are so many zombies around so I set a map to have only a
single Tyrant that I could listen to as it walked around. I got
annoyed because it kept getting too close and I'd have to stop my
tests and run away so I added in a line of code saying that
Tyrants would walk at only 10% of their normal speed but that
their footsteps wouldn't change. So I was able to hear the
normal number of foot step sounds but it was taking it 10 times
longer to actually get close to me. When I posted version 2.4 I
had forgotten to remove that line of code. When I fixed this in
version 2.5 it only removed that extra line of code, thus
bringing Tyrants
back up to their normal speed. None of the other zombies were
ever affected and everything is now back to the speed they've
been since ancient Swamp versions. smile

I've received dozens and dozens of skype messages and emails
about the missions. The rumor network for Swamp is a powerful
force, and the messages people write me are usually affected by
them. Messages start off asking is missions were changed at all.
Someone in Swamp will say they think missions were changed, later
someone will take that and say they heard missions were changed.
Someone asks if there are more zombies so naturally 10 minutes
later people are assuring each other that the missions have more
zombies and each person heard if from a different source. It's a
little funny to see how the rumors unfold, but it is also odd how
people hold to them even after I explain things. This
explanation got a bit longer than I planned but I was leading in
to an example of what I'm talking about. Someone skypes to tell
me that it was a bad idea to make the missions harder and to make
the zombies faster in them. I explain that the zombies aren't
any
faster and the missions were never changed. I'm assured that
they were because they heard that from so-and-so and they know
it's true. I explain again that neither of those things were
changed. I'm told OK, but why did you change them in the first
place?! as if I just said I'd change them back instead of me
saying that I never changed them to begin with. ROFL! People
are very weird.

Anyway, back to my original post. Sorry about that huge side
note that got out of control.

I find that it becomes a lot easier to judge distance base on
footsteps once you get a little more practice. The max range of
the mp5/ar15 is about as far as you can easily here. There is a
little more room in which you can only slightly here the zombies,
but it's near impossible to hit them with anything (I'm
referencing the longbow here, as it's the only weapon that can
shoot farther than 60 without a scope).

As for the games you are asking about they are Monkey Business and Shades of

Re: [Audyssey] 2 question about entombed...

2012-05-16 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Keith,

Yes. There is a way to bring some of your party members back to life.
Several in fact.

One, if you hit them with lightning there is a good way they will come
back as a zombie. Not as cool as having them back for real, but a zombie
character retains most of their prior skills.

Two, if you have a necro you can raise them back from the dead as a
skeleton warrior. Not as cool as a zombie, but I guess if you want that

flaming, meaning fire related, and an opponent is more effected by fire?

Second question, one of my party members has been killed. Is there a way to
ressurect that character? I know you can dump the body, or sell it off in
Twilight Town, which I have found better than leaving a former party member in
the dungeon, because they have a tendency to reanimate and kick my butt for
leaving them down there. (smiles)

Hi Bryan,

Yes, it would be nice to bring characters fully back from the dead, but
I also see Jason's logic here. If a character gets killed, IE stone
dead, bringing them back from the dead should have penalties. Either
they are a zombie or skeleton, with low intelligence, or they are
reincarnated as a lesser creature. These are fair compromises to keep
the game challenging. After all, in most fantasy books, games, and so on
you can't just bring someone back to life without some sort of
necromancer involved, and even then its not the same as being restored
to real life. There are always consequences for that kind of magic.

I think that's why I got turned off of Sryth. If you died in the course
of a game it had no immediate or long lasting consequences. All you did
was lose a life stone, and you could purchase as many of those as you
wanted or needed to keep reviving your character. I like fantasy, but
even that should have some limits.

On 5/16/2012 5:53 PM, bpeterson2...@cableone.net wrote:
Personally I stil feel there needs to be a way to revive them outright,

you reincarnate them you could get them back as a Crypt Creep. And that's
hardly worth the fact that you can at least control them since even a
minor hit will probably kill them again.

As for the games you are asking about they are Monkey Business and Shades of
Doom. Monkey Business is about a number of laboratory monkey's that escape
taking various parts of a teleporter with them, and you have to recover them

I don't own or play 3D Velocity myself so can't testify to its behavior

Anyway, if I were you I'd go to the Logitech site and read up on how to

Hi to all.
This letter is for those who use the Logitech f510 duel stick gamepad.
I would deeply appreciate it if you would down load the demo for the Three D
Velocity hand to ear flight simulator.

Please test out the right hand stick.
I need to know the following.
When you pull the right hand stick forward or away from you, does it
increase the speed like it's suppose to do?

If it does not, I'd like to know.
If it does, I'd appreciate knowing this as well.
Then pull then right hand stick to the left.
It should only turn your aircraft to the left.
I'd appreciate it if it does turn your aircraft to the left.
Also, when you pull the right hand stick to the left, does it turn your
aircraft to the left or does it increase the speed.
For some reason, my increases the speed when I pull the right hand stick to
the left and it shouldn't be doing this.

A huge huge thanks to all in advance.
