Re: [Audyssey] Alteraeon Kinzhay quest

2017-02-04 Thread Keith S
I think you need to head to gads and head north to the 4 way stop just before
the mage school trainer and then head east 2 times and then north I believe.
there is a shop keeper that you talk to and I believe he gives you the tracer
crystals. then you head back to the fire world, give the tracer to the gate
keeper and he takes one and you get the other. then you have to hike back to
the village on the fire world and give the crystal you still have to the black
robed mage in the north most hut and you have completed the quest, unless the
admins have altered the quest since I last did it.

Yepas I thought something is wrong with this quest.
I paid the 250 gold to the gate keeper to get the supposedly replacement
tracer crystal, went back to the village and was told "you've either already
completed this quest or are trying to do it in the wrong order" when I tried
to give it to the blackmage.

I think there's a problem in that quest somewhere since I have no idea who
to talk to for the next step.

  All the best,

  Dark.

I was in the stone dragon earlier today and killed several ochre jellies.
Searching corpses got me a silver shield on the first corpse and shabby
mail on the third corpse. The second corpse offered up a strange rod I
couldn't take because I couldn't carry it at the time. My guess is that
was a key to the coffin east of the ampitheater which is why I couldn't
open that up. Morticia still lives this time. I may have gone through
that coffin or into it with a past character when that character killed
her but can't remember now. That character probably had good lockpicking
  skills.
The interesting thing about all of this is that that's the only quest in
alteraeon I've found to date that has different kinds of objects on the
same kind of monster. Thanks for doing that, it makes the game more
  interesting.

That well may be, but from that description it is not clear what stats can
be trained to fix the problems.
Constitution is some kind of base for it I think but that's all I've been
able to figure out so far.
I'm trying to be careful with how I manage practicesand was less careful

You know, you really oughtn't to make assumptions as to what I have,
or have not, done. Based on that last post, you are operating under
the assumption that I have not made any attempt at communicating Alter
Aeon's issues to Dentin. Guess what, I have, on numerous occasions. Do
you know what happened? Do you know what I was told? To put it
politely, I was told where to get off, and in most instances, in very
direct language. That was if they were feeling polite, in many other
instances, I was called a troll and much worse. So I think you need to
get off your high horse and stop making assumptions.

As for my years of experience as a gamer, it is what makes me right. I
have seen multiple game systems and see what works (and sometimes,
what does not). There is a reason things are done a certain way and
not simply because it has always been done in that manner.

As an aside, I had a look at the latest edition of the Dungeons and
Dragons rules and at the Knock spell. Guess what? it works as it has
  ever done.

I do not have confidence in Dentin and the rest, vis-à-vis development
and balance. They have proven, time and time again that they have no
  clue what they are doing.

For instance: the leatherworking skill. Great idea in concept; create
items and carve on them, perhaps for personal use or for sale to other
players. There is only one serious difficulty: the items in question
bind to your character. If you check the help file (and I just did to
verify this) there is no indication that when you use leatherworking
that the item will bind to that character. Had I known this from the
start, I would not have wasted the pracs on the skinning and
  leatherworking skills.

Also, arguing that no one would take pick locks if Knock worked as it
  ought is faulty logic.

Bash door would be okay, actually, but not as a skill. It ought to be
something that anyone can do, it is strength-based and can only be
  done to certain doors.

Also, I am fine with doors that specifically require a key to open.
Not every door ought to be pickable/knockable (it's a word now,
so...), but the majority of them ought to be (and, from what I can
  tell, they are).

I don't mean to be condescending with this question, Kieth, but how
many other role-playing games have you played?

Pretty much this. Every other role-playing game I have ever played
(and I have played a lot of them) has the knock spell a guaranteed
success when used. I understand the need for balance, but there are
far better ways to accomplish this than the current one in use.

The only way I would pick up Knock is if my primary was a Mage and I
had a lot of Mage cast gear on. Even then, I am not certain if it is
worth the pracs when I could simply take levels in Thief and the pick
  locks skill.

It seems to me that picking a lock with the skill doesn't burn through
your movement nearly as fast as the Knock spell will burn through your
mana. Running out of movement is not great, and can be lethal, but
running out of mana (especially in a place like the tunnels under Fort
  Magnesia) is asking to die.

To put it differently: the knock spell is a broken mess and needs fixing.

the knock spell is an alternative to the pick lock skill, knock uses mana and
pick locks uses movement.

  Hi.

I've been trying to do the drow city close to fort Magnitia, and ran across a
door that was locked.
I tried the knock spell a bunch of times, and despite havig 25 int and 18 dex
couldn't get through at all. I've neglected learning lock picking since as a
druid mage I really should be using magic rather than dex, however it seems
that KNock pretty much is just lock picking with a mana cost, which makes it a
bit pointless, and also a problem if you don't have high dex, indeed I got
killed because I ran out of mana on the bloody door (that and I didn't have a
livoak at the time).

I was therefore wondering if the knock spell could be made a bit more
effective as an alternative tto lock picking given that it costs mana to use.
Indeed what might be fun is if the knock spell, instead of simply replicating
the lock picking skill with a spell opened the door in a different way, for
example with the first casting having the mage concentrate and grasp the
tumblers in the lock one by one before turning them, meaning knock would always
work, but at an increased mana cost.

Heck necromancers could have a versio where they create a literal skeleton
key out of harvested bones, which could be more efficient on mana than the mage
version, but require teeth.

I know the game often has several ways of doing the same thing, for example
the spells candle, crystal light and continual light, but it'd be really useful
if in this case the spell did a little more than just replicate lock pick and
so could be a bit more useful to none thieves.

  All the best,

  Dark.

Done, and I got gauntlets of fire protection and 88,000 experience. I
defeated the archmage and got his staff and his skeleton key but
couldn't get his midnight black raven medallion. I know it's a bound
object but typing get midnight black raven medallion didn't get it for
  me.

The orb is on the wall of the secret study on 2nd floor. I didn't take
the orb yet and it is magical. The spectacles are on the table in the
library on the 1st floor. They're helpful in reading about Xenae a god
that hasn't gotten into the alteraeon realm yet. There's a candle book
but I don't have the levels to memorize it yet. So far I don't know
what to write where with the pen though.

Yes, you just need to knock the door where lora is standing and kill the
prisoner and then you have to deal with some demi-cats or kitttens. then just
follow the direction you did not enter from and you will find the pit fiend
sleeping. depending on your level and class, it is simple to kill. Of course,

  Hello,
I just got back into ALter a couple days ago after being absent for a
while. I’ve had a lot of fun but I’m stuck on my last unfinished quest before
leaving Slo. It has to do with defeating the lesser pit fiend in the sewers of
Bandera Azul. I can find my way into the sewers but I can’t find what I’m
supposed to kill. The furthest I can get is a cell with a locked door and a
naked swordsman. Any help would be appreciated.
Focus your powers and prepare for buttle.

  Hi paul.

Grep does sound useful and I will be glad to look that over.
With questsI do all the usual talking to mobs etc, it's more that some are
completely unknown, for example on arcase at the moment there is a quest
"stop the abuse of a child" and no idea even which area it is in. I don't
mind searching and talking to mobs, but Kordan is pretty big and other areas
are manifestly bigger, plus of course there are quests that don't really
have a specific start but only get fulfilled by doing something else in the
area, eg, there are lots of children kicking around but finding which
one is being abused is somewhat of a task :D.

That's why just saying what area quests start in would be handy, especially
on arcase and probably the mainland too.

  All the best,

  Dark.

Those blobs in particular are pretty tough. Given that you're a mage, I'd
highly recommend that you make use of your necromancer levels and make some
minions to take at least a few of the hits for you. Your strategy is
(relatively) sound, and at this point there's not really a lot more you can
do, other than making sure you have as many defensive spells up as you can.
Tactics will come in later once you have stronger secondary classes with a
greater variety of skills to call upon.

  Hello,

I have been playing alter aeon for a couple of weeks now. My
character is now an 18th level mage, with levels in thief, necro, and
cleric. I have made it to the second island, and have played through
quite a few of the quests there. My issue is that I have a couple of
the quests I just seem to get demolished every time I try them. I am
not sure what I am doing wrong. At level 18 I would imagine I should
be able to handle the 14th level broom quest in the Mad Alcomist's
castle, but the blue blobs there destroy me every single time.

I am wondering if there is some aspect of the game that I just am not
getting. My basic battle plan is to cast spells as quickly as
possible, but I tend to run out of mana very quickly, and then I don't
seem to have any options left but to flee. Are there commands I
should use in combat that I am not, such as ones to attack or defend
  myself?

  Thanks,

  Denny

Sonniss has released for a limited time, for free, a ten gig audio sound
effect bundle NOT TO BE MISSED by audio drama producers and creators. As this
article from bedroomproducersblog explains:

Sonniss has released GameAudioGDC Bundle, a completely free to download
sound collection featuring over 10 GB of high quality royalty free sounds for
video game development and other creative work.

The library was released on March 7th and it will remain a free download
until April 2nd. Sonniss states that they’re giving away this sound collection
in order to give back to the video game developers community, despite of not
being able to join the GDC2015 conference this year. They are also running a
huge game audio sale on their website at the moment, aka GameAudio Special.
So get on board Sonicateers! Grab your bundle while you still can. They
recommend the torrent for it!

I started playing this mud about 2 years ago. I was a pen and paper Palladium
role player and loved the game world, but it was a bit lacking in combat and
magic. plus, quests were given but if you didn't know - where in general terms
where to go, the only player race to take was the Wolfen class with the innate
tracking ability. Yes, other classes could learn the tracking skill, but you'd
have to level a bit before that skill was available. Plus, I didn't find the
people very helpful or friendly on the MUd. Just my observations and opinion.

you can get a list of common commands by typing help command and a list

then the item. such as your example drop sleeves. be careful though, once

[Audyssey] sound effect sites

2015-03-02 Thread Keith S
Hi, wondering if anyone has a good site or 2 to get free sound effect files for
muds? Can't seem to find any on the first 2 pages of google when I search for
free sound files.

Thanks

[Audyssey] A suggestion for subject lines

2015-02-24 Thread Keith S
I am not a mod or the owner of the list, but was curious to how others feel to
having platforms indicated in the subject lines of posts on this list. When a
new game is talked about I mean. This way for those of us who do not use MAC,
or smart phones to game on could just delete the post. Example. blah blah
blah smart phone game
or blah blah blah windows game

Any thoughts?

Re: [Audyssey] Clok mud

2015-02-09 Thread Keith S
actually, you can use mush z, you just have to disable the alteraeon plug in in
the client to make it work with other muds. Plus, there is no soundpack for
games other than alteraeon, so you will have to create your own if you wish to
have sound effects.

  Hi Caitlyn.

No. MushZ is specifically built for alteraeon and will not work with other
  muds.

The basic program MushZ is built on, Mushclient will work, though you'll
need to install some addons for things like output to your screen reader,
and I'm not sure how to do that, though there are others here who use
Mushclient in it's standard form and could likely help.

This is why while I use MushZ for Alteraeon, for all other muds I use
  Vipmud.

Clok is very much you about exploring the wilderness and fronteers, and
I don't think that stops further up the game either.

You can do amazing amounts of crafting (even making campfires is a quite
interesting and involved process), hunt, cook, mine, fight various
creatures and do magic. The game feels very realistic, it has the most
uniue damage and energy system I've seen. It's not for everyone sinse

The problem I'm finding is a lot of the game systems are pretty complex

handaxe rather than a lumber axe to chop wood and if it wasn't for one
particularly kind player I'd have had a good few more wilderness trips
   than I wanted.

I do like the need to prepare for journies and the idea of getting
skills by what you do is good, also the wilderness is certainly my
thing, although the game isn't exactly forgiving, I got killed by a
coyote after making the mistake of assuming that training in staffs
meant I could take something on, also it took me a while to work out
camp fires and I've not yet managed to carve anything halfway decent or
lucrative, (actually I am wondering what the heck all those branches
are for when I fell trees sinse it seems the only practical good you
get is making fires, particularly sinse it seems to be easier to find
little wild herbs in the forest than firewood which is very odd),
indeed I was just trying to cook the first thing I managed to kill (a
fox), when a brigand suddenly walked in, womped me in the chest with
his mace and killed me stone dead in one go!

Actually the combat commands arne't something I've fully got yet, sinse
at first it seemed unless I actively typed kill or battle I wasn't
   actually attacking at all.

I also wonder how the herbalism knolidge skill goes, sinse I've been
doing loads of foraging for herbs and firewood, but not seeing any sort
   of skill increase.

The game is good, it reminds me of when I started playing wayfare with
it's complex wildenress and crafting, and also slower over all combat,
though I suspect it won't have the problem wayfare ran into, namely
that once you'd setup your colony and were starting to build vehicles
and full on sapceships the game became a lot less interesting (or at

Re: [Audyssey] About pc games

2014-12-18 Thread Keith S
I think you both make points. Would it be nice to have more games to choose
from as a blind person? Yes, of course. But Creators of assistive tech
including games, do not make a lot of money, due to our numbers (the blind)
being so low compared to the sighted community. The sighted want more graphics
and realistic visuals, and we blind want clear text or sound effects. So, it's
kind of a catch 22 when it comes to mainstream designers creating games the
blind can play along sides the sighted.

As for morality, as a blind individual, you might have found yourself locked

   Hi Dark,
The sad thing about all this is that all these new things we are
currently getting in the audio game sector are partially old school compared to
mainstream games.
Seriously, I know of a mainstream game called Uprising 2.
You wouldn't be able to play it withouth sighted assistance just to tell
that first.
What I want to say is the following:
This game was a science fiction game where you have to fight in a war
against an alien race.
You had to go to over 30 planets and your task was to destroy all alien
bases on the planet.
The player controled a futuristic tank with different weapons.
He could build factories to produce other units to call during battles to
aid you.
These units were computer controlled of course.
   I have the game CD.
During these missions you gained more weapons and technology until you came
to the final level.
Every planet you had to go to was its own map file.
On the game CD (it was small enough for one CD-Rom) you had the game, the
full user manual as well as other documents.
The game itself had three extra levels which were a really big ingame
tutorial.
But that was not all the CD contained.
There was a level editor plus its own manual plus another file which
contained the technical specifications for one of the four main files you need
for level design.
And there was one last document explaining the scripting language which you
needed íf you wanted to create story events or define on what terms you won or
lost a certain mission.
This game let the user edit some but not all its files.
It did not require any form of hardware based registrations, nor was the CD
copy protected with the kind of copy protection which prevents legal use of the
product because it is buggy.

This title was released before the year 2000 and ran on Windows 98 systems
without problems.

This is just one example of what some games of the Windows 95-98 era could
do.
   Or remember Doom and Quake.
You could make your own levels and mods for them.

And if you like RPGs you know what Final Fantasy is.
That series goes back before PCs were common products.
But I also knew of a Japanese Play Station game which was originally listed
in the audiogames.net database.
But up to now we had little in audio RPG titles and the two we have while
impressive currently don't have official addons/expansions, nor do they support
user created game content as far as I know.

[Audyssey] AD and D muds?

2014-12-05 Thread Keith S
Hi, was wondering if anyone knows of some muds that follow the dungeons and
dragons rules? I have played Toril and shadowgate, but toril is more of a get
to the top level and then find better equipment to augment your character (
which I find kind of lame) and shadowgate is kind of a pain due to the fact
that when you leave the game, you either have to go to an inn and pay to have
your equipment stored in a vault in the inn, and and when you get higher more
powerful pieces of equipment, you pay increadibly high fees, or if you just end
the game without being in an inn, you lose all your equipment you have gathered.

Yes, I do play alter aeon, but after a while, I need a break from that one and
want to try out another.

Thanks

The underground chess tournament is a really old area on Alter Aeon.
The moves are set up using very old door opening code to make things
happen. It's a relic from a more primitive age of building. If the
audiogames.net walk through no longer exists for some reason, anyone
who is interested can contact me off list and I can provide a walk
through, assuming mine's still accurate. I know some changes were
recently made to that area to help deal with some of the whacky syntax
etc, but revamping the area would be tricky. When I completed the
deed myself, I was actually talking to the original builder Islaine.
She had me play through all the chess problems on a board. Took me
about 3 and a half hours one morning. However, it was something of a
  rush.

My personal advice would be to get a tactile chess set (sometimes called a
braille chess set, even though they don't have braille on them), and start
  playing live against a human.

To explain these are sets where there are holes in each square on the board
and the peaces are on pegs so you can put your mits on the board without
knocking them over, one side (usually the white, though not always), has
pins on the top to tell them apart. I'm not sure where you'd get one from in
your part of the world, they tend to be sold by the same places who sell
  braille cards, dice etc.

Personally, while I understand chess notation, I find it near impossible to
hold spacial information about the board in mind without the board. I want
to put my hand on the white knight and my other finger on the square it will
move to, and then put my fingers (and to a very much lesser extent my
disfunctional eyeballs), on the surrounding squares and see if that move
will be a bad or good one.

This is why I've never got on with the various audio Chess games like
BGChess challenge, Kchess elite etc. Sinse while they have some good audio
overviews for the board, fundamentally you are still just getting the
information square by square, and I don't find myself able to old enough
spacial information about the board in mind for that sort of overview to
really help me or make it possible for me to play chess.

Of course this is me, and I will freely admit my spacial coordination is
pretty cruddy, (even in mobility I tend to substitute routes and land mark
memory instead of working out where I am spacially), you might be different
though I'm guessing by your comment you could be in a similar position,
hence my suggestion of a tactile chess set.

  Beware the grue!

  Dark.

The game was called wayfar, as in way far.

the game's site can be found at http://wayfar1444.comm you can connect with
  host wayfar144.com on port .

The game is actually more like a browser game than a mud, you wander through
different environments on an alien planet, gather resources, build buildings
guns and other forms of technology, can hack devices and do all sorts of
  other things.

Unfortunately when i last went on I found several bits of my colony blown up
which was annoying and I can't quite remember where I was in terms of
building stuff now which makes it a trifle hard to continue. dam that pvp!

Hello Keith,

Shades of Doom, sometimes nicknamed SOD, is a first-person shooter
loosely based on the ?Doom game. You are a high-level government
official sent to a secret laboratory to find out the status of a top
secret experiment. You get trapped inside the lab and end up having to
fight off hoards of mutant humans, mutant dogs, rats, blobs, cyborgs,
and various other monsters. Your goal is to shut down the ill fated
experiment and escape the lab.

Hello Ishan,

Actually, in that scene you speak of Super Liam doesn't really die. It
ended that way because Liam was intending on creating a sequel, Super
Liam 2, where that scene is explained in further detail.

As for a main character or hero dying at the end of a game that's
actually been done many times in mainstream games. Usually it is
intended as a cliff hanger for the next game in the series and it
turns out the hero doesn't actually die but survives it in some way,
or is succeeded by an apprentice type character who picks up the
adventure.

For example, one game that comes to mind is Tomb Raider IV: Last
Revelation. At the end of the game after Lara Croft places the amulet
in the niche on the wall Set's temple begins to collapse and Lara
tries to escape only to apparently fall to her death only inches away
from the door way with Dr. Von Croy looking on. It actually turns out
in Tomb Raider VI: Angel of Darkness that Lara survived the fall, and
comes looking for Dr. Von Croy only to walk in when he is being
murdered by art thieves.

the point here is that Edos Interactive added a cliff hanger, a bit of
mystery to the end of Last Revelation, in order to get people
interested in what happened to Lara Croft. In order to get the full
story they had to get Angel of Darkness which basically explains what
happened. Same idea applies here with Super Liam.

Cheers!

[Audyssey] question about mush client

2014-05-13 Thread Keith S
Hi, i've been using mush client eexclusively to play muds online. Started
out with alteraeon (which is the game that mush client was designed for),
but I have also played cyberassault and Toril: the sojourner's home) as well
on it.

I recently uninstalled it because the mush client was acting buggy and the
window's title bar said HO instead of Toril when I would play that game.

I downloaded the full install from
http://backup.mush-z.com/

When I install it though, the installer does fine and I am then confronted
with an option to add jaws support, which I do not install. I click close
when the successful install screen comes up.

The client then does an auto update to the newest version and tells me that
the update is successful and the changelog opens in notepad. I read it and
closed it.

The thing is a window that has the title bar stating setup is still on the
screen, along with a window that has the location of the mush client
subfolders.

I cannot close either one of these windows and even using windows task
manager can't close these window.

Am i supposed to simply wait for these windows to close?

Window eyes cannot read any text in either window, so I am at a loss.

Also, when I try and enter the log on info for toril, I hit the combo for
new under the file menu option in mush client after restarting my system
(without closing those windows) and the output buffer opens (which should
be a shift control o command, but the new command is shift control N.

Any suggestions?

Hi.

I don't know if anyone remembers the game that shadow dragon posted about
a few weeks ago,k www.unchartedpeak.comm.

This is quite a unique new brouser rpg that has just started up
developement. What mnakes it particularly unique to me is the battle
system, sinse you fight on a grid, and have to move and attack monsters,
as well as using spells and the like. On the grid are also orbs which you
can move to to get boosts and other things as well. i suspect this one
could really go far if people support it, so I'd urge everyone to give it
a try.

The game master also seems great about access, for instance even though
there is a rather horrible capture to create an account, he's stated he'll
happily create accounts for any vi players who want to play, and once your
account is created everything is fine.

I haven't got far into the game myself from bring at music school, but i'm
already quite impressed and would highly recommend it.

thus far, my only cryticism is that the monsters have no flavour text,
which for me is always a downer in a game, sinse just being told I'm
fighting say a dingo or a molosc is pretty uninteresting, but the battles
are a lot of fun.

The game is also free, though you can buy some account upgrades for extra
inventory slots and the like.

Hope people enjoy this one.

All the best,

Dark.

I loved plyaing Diablo, both as a computer game and as a paper and pencil

Thanks for this, I'll gladly give this one a go.

Diablo is indeed one of those games I've always wanted to play, me being
an exploration nut, and it's good to here the developer has access in
mind.

I actually happened across this on mudconnector, which is a bit surprising
since it's not what I would consider a mud. But it is pretty cool for a
browser-based game. It's sort of like a mix between Diablo and a tactical
RPG. It's got diablo's randomly generated equipment system and quest path,
and it's got a turn-based tactical battle system that sort of simulates
diablo's combat system in the best way a browser-based game can. Unlike in
most browser-based RPG's, you actually complete your characters on this
game, as in, you can actually finish the storyline. Once that happens you
start a new character. From what I see the storyline isn't hugely in-depth
unless I missed some parts somehow, but it is fairly well-written, and
there are tons of other things to do and achievements to unlock. On the
battlefield there's orbs and items to collect, and from what I understand
orbs do various things, from curing all alements, to restoring HP, to
granting experience. Combat is kind of slow even once you get used to it,
but it isn't too bad once you figure out how it works. It's even got tons
of zones, monsters and events to check out. I'd definitely give this one a
look if you're an RPG fan, or even just a diablo fan and you always wished
you could play.

www.unchartedpeak.com

There's a more comprehensive features list on the website for anyone
interested.

One thing that really impressed me about this game was the developer's
willingness to add accessibility features. At first the combat was
unplayable because you couldn't tell where the monster was, and doing
things like equipping items was a little tricky. But within a day of my
asking, the developer went above and beyond my suggestions, implementing
all of my suggestions as well as a few things I didn't even think of to
make the game completely playable. I was very impressed. So if you're
worried about accessibility, I think he's got that covered and I'm sure
if you find anything else that's tricky to do he'd be willing to
implement it, as long as it doesn't unbalance gameplay.

Enjoy.

Hey Tom,
I tend to be suspicious of anything new or diffrent since going blind. I
have had situations come up all the time in the past that caused me large
headaches due to an accessible program or game becoming suddenly
unaccessible. So I have simply stuck to that which works and haven't gone
crazy with upgrades, updates and the like. Maybe not the best way to move
forward, but like you said, I am kind of comfortable now with what I
got, and probably won't upgrade to something if there is no real need to.
Thank you for explaining about firefox though. I did notice something
called a godville UI offered during a google search and I think firefox
was mentioned that went with it or was needed for it. Maybe I will check
out firefox and see what that Ui is all about.

Hi nickle.

the problem is for me, firefox itself crashes so often as to be unusable,
besides webvision as I understand it won't do all captures.

That's why no game that requires a capture will get an audiogames.net
entry unless there is an alternative way around.

usually I can get round audio captures myself by using a good pare of

[Audyssey] Entombed question about goblin card - spoiler

2012-06-24 Thread Keith S
SPOILER contained

I installed the 1.05B version of the entombed game after uninstalling the 1.02
K version. This blanked out all my found cards, so I started the adventuring
to recover those cards. I have found the crystal card in the dungeon after
defeating the drake, and the sapphinre card and the druid card after doing
what I needed to do to get those cards. But the goblin card still eludes me.
I have defeated the goblin kind in two seperate adventtures, and have not found
it. I have also fought to the 12th levels and have not found the goblin card.
Do I need to uninstall the gave and then reinstall the game to reset the game
parameteres to get access to the goblin card again?

Please email me off list if need be...email at bottom of this message.

I would have posted or looked up this info on the googlegroup, but since June
1st, I cannot use the site. It keeps track of what I have searched for, but
does not give me search results.

Also, what does the plague card from the bizarre do?

Thanks

Hi Kieth.

No idea on the ai thing, but lonewolf is on the gmagames site, indeed I am
surprised you didn't find it when you went to look up shades of doom and
gma tank commander.

kieth, I do very much suggest you look at the pcs games list at
www.pcsgames.net and the audiogames.net database at www.audiogames.net,
both are the best places to look at games and will give you a much better
overview than you just asking about whatever games we happen to mention on
list.

There are lots of good games we might not discuss, plus of course it's
always better to make up your own mind on these things and see for
yourself what is available. The audiogames.net db comes with hopefully
informative descriptions of the games with links to resources, and also
the facility to search by genre, while the fantastic games and where to
find them list at pcs serves as a massive list of websites so is great for
an overview.

Hth.

All the best,

Dark.

Hi Keith,

Definitely. Shades of Doom is one of my favorite accessible games. Its
one of the first games to truly explore the first-person shooter format
by cloning a game like Doom by ID software and making it available in an
audio only format. Of course, don't take my word for it and play the
demo yourself. That's the only way you'll know if its worth the $35 to
you personally.

Cheers!

Hi, what is GTC?

I'm kind of new to the audio game world. I've played trivia games from Jim
Kitchen, and the games from Babisoft, but other than that, I'm totally at a

Hi, I'd say it is well worth the money! It's my favourite accessible
shooter game, and has amazing replay value. There's also loads you can do
with the cheat codes, and quite a few different ways to play the game. It
also has a very good help system built into the game, just like Sarah and
GTC.

[Audyssey] Any sword and sorcery games for the blind?

2012-02-09 Thread Keith S
Wondering if there any sword and sorcery games out there for the blind? I used
to play a series called Might and Magic when I could see, but alas, it is all
graphically driven, and the game was seriously lacking in aduio components
unless you found treasure, but you couldn't figure out what you had as a blind
gamer.

I have played Zorks 1 to 3, and enjoyed them, but I'm looking for something
with more meat on it, so to speak. Perhaps something more in lines with the
Dungeons and Dragons genre, or the old SSI (Stratigic Simulations Incorporated
Pool of Radiance series, only for the blind.

Also, something like the Quest for Glory series would be great. Puzzles,
fighting, magic, etc.

Thanks

Hi Kieth.

Wow what a question! and probably one that requires a long answer. Asking
whether there are any sword and sorcerery themed games is a little like
asking whether there are any games that use guns :d.

firstly, I suggest you go to http://audiogames.net/dbindex.php and search
the audiogmaes.net by the genre catagory of rpgs (you might also want to
look under adventure games and gamebooks too), that's probably the best
way to get an overview.

Broardly speaking, there are four types of games that might fit the bill.

1: Audio rpgs, ie, role playing games that just use sound as interface.
There aren't many of these, but what there is is pretty good. The two best
in that genre are entombed, a full scale tactical turn based combat audio
roguelike dungeon hack with many random elements and literally hours of
playing even in the demo, see the entombed page on the audiogames.net
database for more details, and Airik the clerric, a more action rpg title
sort of like an audio version of Zelda, with lots of exploring and an on
going plot (though note you'll neeed windows 7 for that one).

There is also Sarah and the castle of witchcraft and wizardry. Though
strictly an adventure game more than an rpg, it is set in the harry potter
universe, is a full first person audio adventure, with many puzzles, magic
artifacts, and great stounds. If you like Harry potter you should try
that.

Lastly, there id castaways. Though strictly speaking a stratogy game more
than rpg, it does have much more of plot and mission structure than most
other stratogy games, involving controlling a small number of units in
more detail rather than controlling many hundreds of units.

For instance, the first mission involves being shipwrecked on a shore and
having to build a village, farms and sustain your population in order to
create soldiers and knights to fight back the hoards of attacking goblins,
and eventually build and stock a ship to hopefully sale back from where
you have come.

Further rpg games, such as another installment of the airik the clerric
may well be in the works too.

2: Muds.

These are similar to interactive fiction, accept that everything in them,
all events are real time sent from the mud server to your computer. So
you'll get into combat, and combat rounds will happen whether or not you
attack a monster, but typing in commands will let you do things like use
special attacks, cast spells etc.

Like interactive fiction you wander through rooms and areas, but many muds
do more than just offer puzzles. You can craft items, go on quests that
might involve killing monsters or talking to npcs, join together with
other players to form a party or fight against them.

all you need is a mud client to connect to the mud, such as vipmud from
www.gmagames.com.

Another point about muds however is that some muds can have sound and
audio, this is accomplished by creating a special script where your client
will play sounds when certain events in the mud happen. .

Alteraeon, a game we've been discussing on list recently, and imho one of
the best and probably most accessible muds ever, has a special sound pack
created by Oriol gomez that has so many sounds, keys to do one thing
instead of typing commands, helpful options and such that it virtually
turns alteraeon from a text game into an audio rpg. See the audiogames.net
db page for alteraeon for more details.

3:Brouser rpgs.

These are text games played in your web brouser, and are played online
against many other people. Rather than typing commands interactive fiction
style, you click on links to make stuff happen. So there could be a
description of your location and a link called attack monster

Most brouser rpgs have strong competative elements, many players online,
but also quests and other things to do as well. I'd personally recommend
the game's warriors 2, Sryth, Monster breeder (though that one hasn't been
pdated in a while), metroplexities and the comedy games Twilight heroes
and Kingdom of Loathing.

See the audiogames.net db for more information.

Another catagory of games that you can play online are gamebooks. These
are superficially similar to brouser rpgs, but you don't have other
players, just linked sets of html pages that run together to create a
story your charaacter progresses through based on your own choices and
sometimes dice rolls.

Occasionally you have to fill out your own character sheet and roll your
own dice for these, but for especially good gamebooks such as the
chronicles of arborell or the Project Aon lone wolf series (nothing to do
with the submarine game), it is worth it.

Hey Tom,
Just a correction here if you allow me. the Infocom games are not written
in Inform. The Inform programming language was created by Graham Nelson
after the Infocom games had been released. It was created to be abe to
create the z-code files that was produced by Infocom, and that is what you
will most likely find in the descriptions of Inform.

Hi Keith,

Yes, Shogun is playable. However, what interpreter specifically are
you using. I don't understand when you say, I am using the text
reader from White Stick. I'm afraid that doesn't make any sense as
the Infocom games were written in a language known as Inform and are
played using in interpreter like Frotz, Winfrotz, Zoom, and so forth.

I've been following the thread regarding the Shogun thread, but I am still at

[Audyssey] Grizzly gulch questions, no spoilers

2012-02-06 Thread Keith S
Hi, In Grizzly Gulch, is there any way to talk / haggle with the gernal store
owner? His prices are like buying a ring from Tiffany's.

Also, is there any other purpose to the target range other than practicing with
the gun controls?

Thanks

Are their more or different puzzles and quests on the gunslinger level, or does
it just make the aiming more difficult with 5 faces rather than the 3 in cow

similar to GG or Chillingham out there, by other companies?

Hi Kieth.

No, I'm afraid the game is exactly the same on gunslinger as it is on
cowpoke apart from having five direction shooting instead of three, and a
faster version of the shell game I believe.

Remember, Gg was made in 2000, and therefore is actually pretty primative
now, amusing though some of the acting is.

Beware the grue!

[Audyssey] Question regarding Gizzly Gulch

2012-02-05 Thread Keith S
Spoiler contained Be warned

Hi,

I finally got Grizzly Gulch to work after downloading the 1.2.1 patch from the
bavisoft site and then looking in the FAQ section on their site, and turning
the acceleration for my Direct X Sound option to the lowest setting (shooting
scenes would lock up on me).

I have gone to the bank and couldn't stop the robbery. I got shot.Cecil
suggested I get a gun. I took out a loan, and bought a gun. I held off the
next robbery and cecil told me that he would mention it to the martial. I then
went to the target range, and shot the place up and then missed one. (misfire
actually). The computer voice told me Amazing (rubs nails on chest).

I've been back into and out of the bank several more times (5) and there are no
more robberies., and the martial's office is still closed. Do I keep trying to
get a robbery in progress to show up in the bank, and try to bbuild up my
reputation in town that way? I doubt the martial would be interested in my
gambling skills (which I suck at, considering my wife once dealt blackjack and
poker in a local casino here in Illinois.).

Thanks for any tips.

[Audyssey] nEED HELP IN CHILLINGHAM - using the organ

2012-02-04 Thread Keith S
SPOILER

I have fixed the organ, and have the walkthough for chillingham. It gives
directions on how to play the parrot's song on the organ. I have done this.

I tap right until I get to use. I hit up key. A tone plays. I then hit the
following keys in order:

Right, left, up, right, left, up, right. Nothing happens. If I hit down, the
character says, well, I guess playing the organ isn't as easy as I thought (or
something like that).

I inspect the door. It is still closed.

Is there a certain amount of time I need to press and hold the keys to play
the song correctly?

Thanks

Hey, anyone.
I was wondering what games are out there where you are in the jungle? I
know about Hunter and Tarzan JR.
I was hoping that there might be more games like these, And/or games
where you go through stuff like Hunter wher you are looking for some kind
of treasure.

Thanks!
