Hi Muhammed, I think we are all aware of the dangers of smoking. Besides that warning on the cigarette packs the media constantly talks about the dangers of secondhand smoking and so on. However, if Jim or anyone else wants to smoke that's their choice. Your warning, regardless of how well in tended, really has no place on this list. Thanks. [Audyssey] jim's baseball game
Hi, Would Jim kitchen or anyone mind if I made an alternative sound pack for his baseball game and put it on sendspace for people who wanted it? Once downloaded they could rename the sounds and use whatever sounds they wanted from the sound-pack in Jim's baseball game. Also, Jim if you decide to make a baseball version 4, and if it's ok with you that I put this sound pack up, for people if they want it. In your game, could you make the announcement of the umpire instead saying "and here comes our first ever female umpire..." instead maybe make it say the umpire comes out onto the field," or something like that. If you make the umpire nutral either able to be male or female, then people could use either the default sounds that come with your game originally with the female umpire, or they could use the other sounds. If this is ok and if Jim makes a version4 with these changes let me know. Making the umpire strictly male or strictly female wouldn't work for including sound packs. But making the umpire more ambiguous would allow for sound packs and also would allow you to keep the female umpire if you want to. Also for the football game, could jim add commercials that you could add to as well? This way if people want to they could have the game play random comments and things like that. Or, you could make an option in the football game that if it sees wave files such as comment1.wav comment2.wav or footcomment1.wav or footcomment3.wav etcetera, it will play the random comments from the wave files. But if those files do not exist, then it should use the sapi5 to say the game's built-in comments. Could Jim and others give me feedback on these ideas? I've been thinking about this and this is what I came up with keeping in mind that Jim likes the female umpire, making it ambiguous or nutral would allow you to keep the female one, or get rid of it. But anyway Jim your games are really great. I'm just throwing out ideas to maybe make them better if people want to. I think adding the ability for people to add their own recorded football comment wave files if they want to which would be played at random after each play or to use sapi comments would greatly enhance the game. And it may not take that much more code to implement either. What thomas proposed was a complete re-write and a whole new baseball and football game. But Jim's games are already really good. But if we tweek the baseball and make the umpire nutral and give the football the ability to check for and play comment wave files if available that would really enhance the games I think. ok. I rembled on enough. you can write me on list or off list with your comments about this. Re: [Audyssey] jim's baseball game
If the pitcher throws a ball that is outside the plate, too high, or too low, it is called a ball unless the batter swings at it. Otherwise it is a strike. It is, however, not a foul ball unless the batter hits it with the bat, sending it out of bounds. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Willem Sent: Tuesday, February 06, 2007 10:03 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] jim's baseball game Uh he can. Re: [Audyssey] jim's baseball game
Hi Nicol, Personally I don't think that it would help in batting practice to know which pitch is coming. My reason is that you will not know in the game, so it is better practice to be more like in the game. I also do not at this point have any plans for a new version, but if I do I will think about making it an option. I am sorry, but I am not going to be able to explain the entire game and rules of the game of baseball to you in an Email. It has been played in the United States for over a hundred years. You would probably be able to find books and books maybe even on line about the game of baseball. I'll try to answer a couple of things quickly if I can. A baseball is round with stitching around it to hold it together. I believe that it is something like 2 and a quarter inches in diameter. It is covered with cow hide. A bat is made of a hard wood. Ash maybe. It is round and vary widely in length, weight and circumference depending on the batters preference. Of course the batter is the man standing at the plate trying to hit the baseball that is pitched. Ultimately he would like to hit it over the wall which is a home run and means that he and any men on base run around all four bases and score runs when they cross home plate which is where the batter stands waiting for the pitch from the pitcher. First second and third base are square. Home plate is five sided. Yes there are nine innings in the game of baseball. An inning is both teams get to bat. They do get three outs each. A man on base is like when the batter hits the ball and no one catches it and he is able to run to first base before anyone of the nine fielders picks up the ball and throws it to first base. The batter may run to second, third or even home base if he thinks that he can make it without the ball being thrown there before him. At first base they do not need to touch him with the ball to get him out. The fielder just needs to have his foot on the base and the ball in his glove. At the rest of the bases they need to touch him with the ball unless it is a force out. A force out happens because there is a man on first base and the batter hits the ball and runs to first base so the man that was on first base must make it to second base before he is tagged or the ball is thrown there. Well you see what I mean about how I could not possibly write about the entire game and rules of the game of baseball. One other thing before I go, no there are no sounds in the game of baseball like the sounds that I put in my game to represent the baseball being pitched. And it is not against the rules to throw nothing but fast balls. However in a real game the batter would soon figure out that a fast ball was coming which would give him a much better chance at hitting it. I hope that helps some. BFN Jim No one ever says " It's only a game, " when their team is winning. [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.kitchensinc.net (440) 286-6920 Chardon Ohio USA ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] jim's baseball game
Hi Willem, A pitcher does not throw a foul ball. It is either hit by the batter, hits the batter or is called by the umpire as either a ball or a strike. It is a strike if it goes over the plate and is not lower then the batters knees or higher than the letters on his jersey. Oh yeah there is also a wild pitch or a passed ball which is a pitch that is not a strike and so far off the plate that the catcher does not catch it. Sometimes a wild pitch hits the batter. HTH BFN Jim I was always taught to respect my elders, But it keeps getting harder to find one. [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.kitchensinc.net (440) 286-6920 Chardon Ohio USA ___ Gamers mailing list .. [Audyssey] jim's baseball game
Hi all I enjoy the baseball game a lot. The sounds makes it feel like a real contest. There's just a couple of things I noticed. First, I would like to make a suggestion, jim. When I'm having a practice round, don't you think it will help if the type of pitch throw is announced? If I know that a fast ball is going to be pitched, then I am just a little bit more prepared. Because currently I'm not aware at all which ball is going to be pitched, and then I am too slow if it's a fast ball, but if I'm warned beforehand then I will be prepared. Its just so that I can practice the different pitch throws better. During the real game its not necessary for the pitcher to announce which ball is going to be pitched, but in the practice round it would help if the game can say for instance the moment I press space to bat: A fast ball coming up, or a curve coming up. Because as far as I know, each of the 7 types of pitching makes a different tone so if I'm warned which type of pitching is coming up, I can better associate the tone. Let me rephrase this: The game asks me would you like to get some batting practice? press y or n. I press y. then the game say: press any key to swing if the bat is 85 percent from left to right, press space to step onto the batterbox. Then the moment I press space I would like the game for instance to say: fast ball coming up and then the sound of the fast ball. Then I noticed something very interesting. Well, first of all could you guyhs please explain to me how baseball actually works? Well I managed to win a game, rhinos 7 boles 2. but what is actually happening on the baseball field. What does batting mean? Is baseball like cricket? How does a baseball ball and a baseball bat look like? How does it feel like? Those pitching tones is really a funny sound, in real baseball are these sounds also used? What does it mean if the game says: there's 3 outs. Does it mean that 3 people get a chance to bat? In other words for each inning does the baseball team consist of 3 batters and 1 pitcher? And what does it mean if the game says: there's 2 basemen standing, 1 basemen standing, etc. After the game says: there's 3 outs. It sometimes say for example: 1 baseman left, what does that mean. What does it mean if the game says : the bases are empty? What does a base look like? Something very interesting which I have noticed: I can actually easily cause my opponent team to get 3 outs easily. I just pitch fast balls all the time. Isn't the manager suppose to judge the game? Isn't it cheeting if I only pitch fast balls, number 1? I have NOTICED THAT WHEN I pitch fast balls, most of the times the batter gets a swing and a miss and in this way 3 outs is easily reached. In south African rugby for example, rugby is almost like American football, there is a ref and he judges the game to check that no cheeting exists. How does baseball works? Is there also managers or refs that prevent cheeting? I'm just very amazed that I manage so easily to cause my opponent to have 3 outs. And I also like the commercial music in the game a lot. This is just my observations, but the game is rocking jim. I think ian humphries can learn something from you lol! Concerning your concentration game, I added a line to the .dat file: Braille monopoly game 75. do you think this will prevent the game from only sayhing: worth 75 dollars. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's baseball game
I know what you mean. Trying to hit the ball at eighty five percent across the field of sound must be possible since others do it, but I was never good with hand ear location. This is why I normally avoid games that require excellent precision in that regard. Not that I wont buy a game like that if I like it, but it isn't my first choice. Maybe, if jim ever felt the urge, he could put in a small function that makes a beep when a ball gets into the sweet zone. Or maybe just a wav file that is like a practice pitch that gives a nice location beep to get a feel where that eighty five percent is. I am sure some people would disagree, but whatever, it is still a fun game. The truth will set you free... Re: [Audyssey] Jim's baseball game
Hi Liam, You are correct, the point of view is similar to that of the visiting manager in the dugout. It would be better if the game gave you a sound indication when to swing, like a little chirp. Of course if you got the swing sound before you swung you would have missed the ball. This is what PCS did with several of our games. After some practice you could anticipate when the PC speaker chirp would happen and get a higher score. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's baseball game
Hi Bean, I tried to have the game be from the batter's perspective. I think that it is fairly close except that the pitch should come from more like the center rather than from all of the way to the left. I think that about 85 or maybe 95 is correct as if you do not swing at the pitch it will go passed you and the catcher will catch it. HTH BFN Jim Why do "overlook" and "oversee" mean opposite things? Re: [Audyssey] Jim's baseball game
Hi Ken, It is very difficult to tell if a pitch is a ball or a strike. The sound will play at one of five speeds. Normal speed as well as one above and one below will be a strike. The slowest and the fastest are balls. However this is only just before the ball enters the batting zone as it changes speeds several times on the way to the plate. You can just not swing and listen to allot of pitches to see if you can then tell. I suggest that you do that in batting practice though. I have the same question about bad pitches from good pitches, but I just swing at most anything, lol. If it was a bad pitch I foul it off most times. Although there is(or sounds like) there is a little difference in one of the pitches when it is a bad one, but could just be my hearing. But as far as swinging at the ball when it is 85% from left to right, that is because you are standing at the plate and that is approxamatly the position at which you would swing the bat if you were standing at the plate. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's baseball game
Hey Al, well what I do is turn up my volume so that I can tell better when the ball is about 85% to the plate, then I swing. Now I am not going to say that I don't hit the numerous of foul balls, cause I do, but it works for me. Also, I do a little bit of batting practice before each game to get me ready because it will let you swing at all the pitches in time and the announcer will tell you if your swinging too early, too late or whatever the case may be. But seems that most of the time when I hit foul balls, they always catch the catcher where the announcer doesn't want to tell me where that foul ball hit the catcher, lol. That is one of my favorite sayings. Anyways hope this helped some. BEAN ___ Gamers mailing list .. [Audyssey] Jim's baseball game
Hey listers, I was just playing a game of baseball and achieved my highest score ever. My top amount of runs ever scored is 20 runs. Not only that, but I also held the opposite team to 0 runs, which I had never done as well. I was just curious, what is everyone else's highest amount of runs scored in Jim's baseball game? Re: [Audyssey] Jim's baseball
Hi Bean, No, there is no special sound if you hit a grand slam, just the regular home run explosion sounds. well I knew you got 4 runs in, but I was wondering about the sounds. I meant to say in the e-mail that I knew you would get 4 runs, guess I should have made my inquiry more specific. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's baseball
You score 4 runs. I don't remember if there is any different sound, though. It's been a long time since I've done it. - Original Message - From: "Richard Bennett" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "blind gamers" Sent: Thursday, May 18, 2006 3:00 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Jim's baseball > Hey Jim or anyone else, I am just curious, what happens when someone gets > a grand slam in the baseball game? [Audyssey] Jim's baseball
Hey Jim or anyone else, I am just curious, what happens when someone gets a grand slam in the baseball game? I have had the bases loaded many times, but can never seem to hit a homerun when they are loaded and was wondering if anything special happens when a grand slam is hit.
