  Hi Aaron,
Ummm...Are we talking about the same program? DOSBox is just a program
you install on Windows, Linux, or Mac and run it like any other program.
You can place a DOSBox icon on your Windows or Linux desktop, click it,
and bang instant dos environment. You do need to mount the folder where
your old dos games and other programs are at, but that is no biggy.

Nifty. I'd be interested to try it but I haven't any external synthesizers. Hmm
I have a braille n speak but don't know where the cereal cable is for it, and I
can't understand those things any more. Used to be good at it but now adays I'm
hopeless. Ah the good old days when understanding a computer voice was an art,
lol.

Re: [Audyssey] wondering

2009-03-18 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Aaron,
Gotcha. As a matter of fact there is a version for several different
platforms including: Mac, Linux, and Windows. One thing I have noticed
though it seams to run better on non-Windows platforms. I think that is
because Windows Vista and Windows 7 are such resource hogs they don't
give you enough resources at times to run a very large dos application
or game.
For example, I wanted to play a pinball game from my MS Dos/Windows 3.1
days via DOSBox. Well, under Windows Vista the audio and vidio would
breakup on me. So I tried the same game under Ubuntu Linux with DOSBox
for Linux. If I launched it from the console, not from in Gnome, the
game ran fine. Point being is that some times having a graphical user
interface uses a lot of extra system resources you may need for some
processor and hardware intensive titles. Though, if I am not mistaken
most VI gamers probably want DOSBox for text based games which isn't all
that resource intensive.

Smile.

[Audyssey] Blind Adrenaline's online fighting game

2009-03-18 Thread Che

 Hi all,
I've been getting lots of request for info on the online fighting game I
am working on, so I figured I would post some of the info I have here.
Keep in mind this is all subject to change, depending on what testing
brings about.
After the hold em and hearts card games are released in the next couple of
weeks, I am going to start testing with a basic boxing game to see what kind
of average latency we are getting round trip with my dedicated server.
If it is acceptable, I will flesh the game out and eventually release it
as a commercial product.
Based on tests we did with the Rail Racer Battle game, I think the
latencies will be good enough to do this, and I have already built the web
code for everyone to interface through.

So here is what I want to do with the game assuming all tests work out.
The game will be in the style of a 3D first person perspective fighter.
You will have basic moves that everyone shares, as well as special moves,
depending on what character build you start with.
The special moves will require combos, so if you are playing with the
mouse, you may have to draw an s shape to throw a energy strike for example.
As you move up in rank and training levels, you will unlock more combos,
but you will have to train these combos in the practice room to get them up
to 100 percent effectiveness.
you will be able to build up your character as you mature, adding skill
points to different categories such as strength, dexterity, etc.
The game will be set in a future world where technology and magic have
been bound together. Your sword may be blessed with the rune of Pyros for
instance, making it leave behind a flaming wound upon cutting your opponent.
Or perhaps your arm has been amputated and replaced with a hydraulic borg
appendage capable of ripping the guts from your enemies, assuming you have
enough money to keep it charged of course.
There will be tournaments for money that can be spent on armor, weapons,
and training.
There will be a room for fighters to meet and chat, arrange matches and
tournaments, etc.
I will be creating an integrated tournament system kind of like the
current rail racer tournament set up, except this one will allow anyone to
create a quick tournament if they want to fight their friends and it will
keep track of everything automatically. So for instance if 4 people want to
have a competition with an entry fee of $1000, with the entire pot going to
the winner, they can do that, no need for an admin to create a tournament
for them.
I am researching using the Wii remotes, something I am 90 percent sure can
be done, and will add a killer bit of interaction to the game.
You will have to spend your money wisely to be the most effective fighter
possible. Do you spend that last $500 on one more training lesson, or pay
for a frost protection spell for your plate armor, knowing your next
opponent will be armed with a negative thermo weapon. Your setup before
battle will be crucial.
Those are the things I will definately be aiming to do if I go ahead with
it.
In addition, I may include sword and light saber fighting, which would be
way cool with the mouse or Wii remote, if Lucas Arts wants to come after me
for making a light saber game, let them bring it on, I'm sick of being told
what I can and cannot do by game companies that won't put even the most
basic of accessible features in their games.
Additionally, you may be able to improve you weapons, pay to have spells
cast on them for better performance, etc.
If you have played rail racer, you know I can pull this off, other than
the Wii remotes there is nothing here I haven't done already in another
form, so I'm not just talking out of my rear end here.
So overall, I think it is gonna be a lot of killer fun. I'll be starting a
blog on development once we get rolling, but in the meantime, if you have
any questions or suggestions, now is the time to let me know before coding
starts in ernest. I want to make this the best fighting game for the blind
for years to come, and I need your input to do it.
Folks have asked me about beta testing as well. I have a great group of
dedicated testers right now. Once we get the game to beta stage, I will
start selling the game to folks that want to go ahead and join the beta team
and start playing as the game develops. But for now I'm good on testers, so
I won't be adding anymore until beta.

 So what do ya think?
BTW, if you respond to this long message, please be courteous and delete
what I have written, as there is a limit to message size on list, and this
bad boy is already pretty long.

 Thanks,
Che

Hi

Though I agree I'd rather play with a gamepad or joystick to have more of
the gaming feel, not all blind/vi gamers may have such devices and I'd think
without some method of keyboard input it might limit the customer. I've
still got the demo of rail racer and as much as I like using a input device
which was pretty much before collecting dust on the desk The keyboard will
allow me to initially learn the game then I can expand on using the mouse or
gamepad.

Well, if we were talking about a really expensive input device like a Wii
controller setup being required, I could understand the argument about some
folks not having a mouse. But you can get a basic mouse now for less than
ten bucks, and if keyboard input looks like it would limit what I can do
with the game, i will probably abandon it, either that or the keyboard users
would be left without the ability to pull off some combos, which I'm sure
they wouldn't like at all.

[Audyssey] [MOTA] Incomplete Gamepad Support

2009-03-18 Thread Kai
Greetings Thomas.

I recently purchased a Logitech Rumblepad II to replace my old gamepad which
was suffering from a short in the wire.
I decided to test MOTA's abilities with it, and here are my conclusions:

1. The menus (Both main menu and inventory menus) do not properly support
gamepad input. When I pres button 1 (the action button), it moves up in the
menu, and pressing button 4 moves down the menu. No other gamepad buttons are
recognized, and there is no way to select an item.

2. When playing the game, the program does not recognize commands via the POV
(hat) directional buttons (the four arrow buttons on most gamepads). Instead,
it relies solely on the analog stick for movement. While this is
understandable, it would be nice to be able to also move with the POV buttons.

3. There is no way to run when using the gamepad, so you're effectively stuck
walking. Seeing as it uses analog input, would it be possible to make the
character run when the stick is fully to the left/right/etc? Otherwise, perhaps
another modifier key?

4. You cannot switch between weapons on the fly with the gamepad, but I assume
this could be addressed if the gamepad/menu issue were resolved.

5. Related to both keyboard and gamepad input: When holding down the crouch
combinations, the program seems to be playing the crouch sound over and over,
at an extremely high rate, so that what you effectively hear is a kind of buzz.
Perhaps this is only on my system, though.

Greetings Charles et al.

OK. I did re-read the read me file, and I guess some of the earlier

I do, however, hope there will be a joystick configuration tool in the file

and I really don't like that I have to use the enter key on the keyboard to
open doors and get items (unless there are joysticks out there with an

Re: [Audyssey] Blind Adrenaline's online fighting game

2009-03-18 Thread Kelvin Tan

hey man. it's great to hear the the fighting game is in the works.

i totally agree that blind gamers should get into using the mouse for game
play. but of course the ability to use the keyboard should be still
available for the more old fashioned fighter who might just end up banging
on what ever key on the keyboard. but i definitely agree that some special
moves should only have the ability to be performed by the mouse or game pad
etc. it's time we should stop spoon feeding those who are stubborn. some
guys here, whenever they run into any difficulties in game play, they will
just comment that this game or that game is too difficult! is it possible to
make it easier for me so that i can complete the game please please? and
then some of the game developers here will just happily nod and comply, well
that's up to each individual, but i'm definitely not going to ask for a game
to be made easier just because i 1 2 win or complete them. to me, game
replayability is the most important, and when there is no longer a
challenge, where can the game replayibility be? multiplayer games like rail
racer, sound rts, and even a few games from vipgamezone e.g. galaxy ranger,
definitely have replayability in my opinion.

Subject: [Audyssey] Blind Adrenaline's online fighting game

 Hi all,
I've been getting lots of request for info on the online fighting game I
am working on, so I figured I would post some of the info I have here.
Keep in mind this is all subject to change, depending on what testing
brings about.
After the hold em and hearts card games are released in the next couple
of
weeks, I am going to start testing with a basic boxing game to see what
kind

of average latency we are getting round trip with my dedicated server.
The special moves will require combos, so if you are playing with the
mouse, you may have to draw an s shape to throw a energy strike for
example.

As you move up in rank and training levels, you will unlock more combos,
but you will have to train these combos in the practice room to get them
up

to 100 percent effectiveness.
you will be able to build up your character as you mature, adding skill
points to different categories such as strength, dexterity, etc.
The game will be set in a future world where technology and magic have
been bound together. Your sword may be blessed with the rune of Pyros for
instance, making it leave behind a flaming wound upon cutting your
opponent.

So for instance if 4 people want
to
have a competition with an entry fee of $1000, with the entire pot going
to

the winner, they can do that, no need for an admin to create a tournament
for them.
I am researching using the Wii remotes, something I am 90 percent sure
can

be done, and will add a killer bit of interaction to the game.
You will have to spend your money wisely to be the most effective fighter
possible. Do you spend that last $500 on one more training lesson, or pay
for a frost protection spell for your plate armor, knowing your next
opponent will be armed with a negative thermo weapon. Your setup before
battle will be crucial.
Those are the things I will definately be aiming to do if I go ahead with
it.
In addition, I may include sword and light saber fighting, which would be
way cool with the mouse or Wii remote, if Lucas Arts wants to come after
me
for making a light saber game, let them bring it on, I'm sick of being
told

what I can and cannot do by game companies that won't put even the most
basic of accessible features in their games.
Additionally, you may be able to improve you weapons, pay to have spells
cast on them for better performance, etc.
If you have played rail racer, you

I just manually did a find and replace, something about if reg== and
replaced it with 0001 ... can't remember, it was years ago that I did it,
