Re: [JAWS-Users] protected file

2015-05-06 Thread Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)
Actually, any edition of Word since 2007 will save in PDF. I can't account for
the formatting, but this is one of the big reasons I upgraded to 16 and office
2013. Only minutes ago, I handled an image PDF concerning a payday anomaly
coming up at the end of the fiscal year. There were only two or three minor
typo's, which I could have easily resolved had I needed the file long-term.

Select all of the text in the PDF file using Control + A, then past it into a
Word document with Control +V. Now edit your document as you need to. If you
need it in PDF format again, use Adobe to convert the modified document into
that format.

Hello,
Is the file in word's protected view? If it is, you will need to get the file
out of protected view. To do so, press f6 to get to the area this file is in
protected view then tab to and press the spacebar on the button that states
allow editing.
Hope that helps

I am using W7, Outlook 2010 and latest jaws and jaws has completely stopped
working in anyway. My wife has vision and she looked at it but she can't
get it to work but she is in no way a very computer savvy person. I did a
system restore a couple of times but it did nothing. Is there anyway to
repair outlook 2010 or does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might
try? This is another computer and not the one I am on at present. Any
help will be appreciated.

Thanks much,

Alan,

Well, I spoke out of school with regard MS-Word. I just gave it a try there.
On my system I have MS-Word 2007 and the Insert+C key combination indeed
announces the phrase with the misspelled word. I'm using latest JAWS 16 on a
32-bit Windows 7 machine.

In my defense, I rarely use MS-Word, and do most of my spell-checking in
Outlook Express mail. There I use OESpell add-on, and that indeed does not
work with Insert+C, and perhaps has never done so.

Sorry for the initial confusion.

Re: [JAWS-Users] run Dialog Box

2015-05-06 Thread Michael B.
Hi Steve,

Try the following to clear the Run history manually:
1. Open the 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties' window. You can do it in two
ways:
Press the Windows Key to open the start menu, press escape to close put
you on the start button, Right-click the Start button and select Properties
Or you can open the Start menu, select Control Panel, click Appearance and
Personalization, and then click Taskbar and Start Menu

2. In the Start menu tab and in the Privacy area uncheck the 'Store and
display recently opened programs in the Start menu' option. If you need to
clear
recently opened files, uncheck 'Store and display recently opened items in
the Start menu and the taskbar'

so to clear the run dialog history, you uncheck the box which reads;
Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu
Apply okay your changes
Note: I forgot to mention, if you want to re-build your run dialog history,
you'll
need to go back and re-check the box,
Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu

Take care.
Mike

The keystroke for my Acer computer was ALT+f10, after
hitting the power button.
I held them down for about 25 seconds, then safeboot finally
came up.
I did not need my repair disk, just down arrowed to restore
to factory default, and pressed enter.
On most computers it is f8 or f2, but Acer computers are
ALT+f10.
Worked like a charm...

even read the thread of the message before moving to the next message in

Subject: [JAWS-Users] confused webpages

For the last few weeks I have been getting a bunch of crazy gibberish when
opening up certain webpages. It's always the same and I can't tell you what
it's saying, but it sounds like some alien language. I tried to copy and
paste it, but I cannot. It lasts for three or four lines, usually at the top
of the page, but sometimes it will show up again in the middle of the page.

I am using IE 11 with JAWS 14 and 15. Does anyone have any ideas as to what
this could be and how to get rid of it?

Thank you.

I do an automated virus scan every day. I use Nod32, so I know it is doing
the job. It almost seems as though there are some kinds of graphics. I
haven't had a chance to have anyone look at the page, but I may be able to
do that tomorrow.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will go ahead and do an extra scan just in
case.

2015-05-06 Thread LeDon
I am using windows seven, the latest Jaws release and MS word ten. The
procedure that I described works for me. I tried it out before I wrote that
post. It may be the way something is set up on the computer that is
different than mine. The procedure works for me in word and outlook ten. So
if that does not work, then I am stumped.

Try this, press the jaws key and the letter H key at the same time. That
will open up with the line that you are working on. Make your changes and
press the tab key. it will ask you if you want to make the changes. Accept
that and you are done. That works, I just tried it. What I did. I opened MS
word and typed the folloing sentence. I went to the zo to see the elephant.
I pressed F7 and started spell check. It stopped on zo and said that it was
not in the dictionary. I pressed cap lock and H. It opened the line that I
was working on. then I changed the Z O to the word zoo. I pressed the tab
key, It asked me if I wanted to make the change. It is that simple. LeDon. O

Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet explorer stopped working

2015-05-06 Thread Trish
I also have noticed this. I am using IE 10.
Also, I have noticed, when I open a web page, Jaws says the address bar, but no
links.
When I tab, I come across filter is checked, I uncheck this, then I hear
asking me if I want to turn off Java running controls or something like that,
gives me allow or not.
so if I choose allow, then the web page loads as normal.

I've noticed this happening on a recipe web site that I subscribe to. The other
day when it happened, I went to tools and options and too the programs page to
see what add ons were running. I turn off or disabled the ones I didn't think I
would need. Research, MS class something, BlueTooth. I left adobe flash and
something else enabled.

I had done that before with IE 9 and back with XP using IE 8. It did seem to
help.
That filtering check box doesn't rear up on all web pages though.

On my system I have MS-Word 2007 and the Insert+C key
combination indeed announces the phrase with the misspelled
word. I'm using latest JAWS 16 on a 32-bit Windows 7
machine.

In my defense, I rarely use MS-Word, and do most of my
spell-checking in Outlook Express mail. There I use OESpell
add-on, and that indeed does not work with Insert+C, and
perhaps has never done so.

Sorry for the initial confusion.

Re: [JAWS-Users] confused webpages

Hi.
The most likely explanation for this as far as I can figure would likely
be some sort of add-on that is doing things to your webpages. Try
removing add-ons, and resetting IE if that doesn't help.

I tested that by selecting all the keys after I highlighted run MRU and

too awful shabby.

The keystroke for my Acer computer was ALT+f10, after
hitting the power button.
I held them down for about 25 seconds, then safeboot finally
came up.
I did not need my repair disk, just down arrowed to restore
to factory default, and pressed enter.
On most computers it is f8 or f2, but Acer computers are
ALT+f10.
Worked like a charm...

to the manufacturer's web site. A little more work, but worth it.
Actually, my philosophy is that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. There
are times when a new driver may improve performance, but often this is
not the case, and sometimes a new driver can actually cause problems.

Alan,

Well, I spoke out of school with regard MS-Word. I just gave
it a try there.

Hi.
If this is the instruction I have issues with, you should be able to run

keeps saying it can't boot from this hard drive when I try to get it to

Hi.
http://www.askvg.com/how-to-remove-an-item-from-run-dialog-box-history-mru-l
ist/

I tested that by selecting all the keys after I highlighted run MRU and
deleting them. It did indeed clear my run history. I think CCleaner might be
able to do it. The registry trick for doing that though isn't too awful
shabby.

 Hi All,

Does anyone know how to clear the history when you bring up the run dialog
box? Using Windows 7 64 bit and JAWS 16.

It's not limited to IE 11.

Hi, I experience this exact problem using a desk top similar to yours on
certain web sites.
I have reported the problem on several occasions to F S tech support but they
have been unable to duplicate my problem.
As a feeble solution, I find that dropping back to JAWS 15 solves my problem on
these trouble sites where I E 11 stops working and such frustration with the
forced march to the next version and the SMA dance causes me to ponder when I
might exit this merry-go-round.

I am using W7, outlook 2010 and latest jaws and I am having a problem that is
very annoying. Jaws will often tell me that internet explorer has stopped
working. When this happens I still have jaws but all navagation
stops working. Jaws tells me to press Alt N and I do this but nothing
happens and often I have to reboot but sometimes if I fumble around long enough
it will start working again.I am using IE 11and I would like to know if I
uninstall IE11 will my browser go back to IE 10? I have been thinking of
trying this but I do not want to get myself into a bigger mess than I am
already in . I did a system restore but it didn't help. . Any
suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

How about when the error brings everything to a halt, and the highlight moves
slowly and randomly from program to program. You're told no window is active.
If you can get me out of that one quickly and with minimal damage, I'll owe you
big time!

Another little trick to get things going is to press the insert 10 for list of
active programs and enter on IE and all should work again.

Fred, apply one trick when ever your internet explorer hits your
system. It always worked for me, just press windows+u, it will open
ease of access center. But don't do anything here, as soon as u will
press windows +u, jaws will start to speek and internet page will be
 fully loaded!

I am also facing the same problem. In my case, it is not only
internet explorer but also firefox is getting hanged on cirtain
websites while working with jaws 16. However I don't face any of such
problem if I use another screenreader.
