Re: [JAWS-Users] clipboard and Google Chrome
Doesn't setting a temporary placemarker method work for you, Terry? 1. Go to the top (or bottom) of the text you want to copy, and set a temp placemarker with windows-control-k. 2. Go to the end of the text you want to copy and press the dual-layer keystroke insert-space then the letter M to copy between the placemarker and the marked point where your virtual cursor is located. 3. Press Control-C to copy to the clipboard. 4. If you want to append additional stuff to the clipboard, do the same thing as above, except instead of copying the marked selection to the clipboard control-C, use control-V instead. Re: [JAWS-Users] Additional Note Regarding Outlook Chrashing Issue When Entering E-mail Addresses Into A New E-mail
Tom, I know of two ways to get Outlook up in safe mode. You can use the Windows run command and type: outlook.exe /safe Here is what you want to do to keep opening it in safe mode by creating a shortcut: You can also create a new shortcut to outlook.exe and add the /safe switch; First, determine the location of outlook.exe on your system. In general you'll find it under; a.. 32-bit version of Windows C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office b.. 64-bit version of Windows C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office If you can't find it, do a search for outlook.exe or use OutlookTools (free) instead. Once you've found outlook.exe we create a shortcut to it with the /safe switch to prevent Outlook from opening an extra window each time you click the shortcut or use your keyboard shortcut. 1.. Right click on an empty space on your Desktop and choose New-> Shortcut 2.. Type the path to outlook.exe between quotes or browse to its location via the Browse. button 3.. Type a space behind that and /safe 4.. The entire line should now look like this (example is for a 32-bit version of Outlook 2010 on a 64-bit version of Windows); "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE" /safe 5.. Click Next 6.. Name your shortcut for instance: Outlook Safe Mode 7.. Go into Notepad and hit the save command. If you shift-tab four times, you should get to your default folder. Re: [JAWS-Users] Additional Note Regarding Outlook Chrashing Issue When Entering E-mail Addresses Into A New E-mail
Miriam: The only suggestion I have at this point is to hit enter on the item you get when you try to open Outlook in safe mode. For me, it says something like Outlook 1, and if I hit enter on it, I'm put in safe mode. Why this is all so necessary is beyond me. If you can't get things to work, I'd call Freedom Scientific Tech Support. I'm saying this for two reasons: 1. They really should help you with your issue, as they helped me; and 2. The more people alert them to this issue, the higher it will become on their priority list of things to fix. Please keep me posted, and let me know how things turn out for you. I couldn’t find that setting either to double check it. When you first start Adobe acrobat reader, you do get that Accessibility wizard. I was a little bit confused with that, but I did tell it to read all pages. But then there was something about should I display continuously or as a single page. I picked single page. Re: [JAWS-Users] version 2018
Agreed about MSFT and IE. But, this behavior has been occurring for at least a year; and it doesn't occur when using other screen readers. The problem is that it is not totally replicable; you can try the same thing and it might only happen ten percent of the time. I haven't had this issue with Googl3e Chrome, but since a lot of people still use IE, it is frustrating that this problem is so widespread. - Original Message - From: "George Martinez Sr"To: Sent: Thursday, November 16, 2017 2:59 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] version 2018 Microsoft is taking their foot off the pedal with IE-11. [JAWS-Users] Outlook Crashing Issue When Entering E-mail Addresses Into A New E-mail
Maybe I was not paying close attention to this. I am using Windows ten latest of Creator at 17.9 and jaws as of yesterday Jaws 2018 latest release. I also have Microsoft Outlook office complete Word and E-mails. With Jaws 18 it was ok with the up-date it did and then Outlook did a up date. So I said maybe and they do have it resolved in 2018 version latest release. I have no issues. There is another Jaws users group and sometimes asked, If in Windows 7 and running the programs is it necessary to go all the way to jaws 18 and the latest of Jaws 2018, which is a rename now for Jaws 19. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 2018 with Windows 10 mail app?
Section One Launching the Windows 10 Mail App So, let us consider how you can launch the mail app for the first time. The way I did it, was to press the windows key or CTRL+Escape and type mail. I heard windows mail app trusted windows store app. Now, press enter, and the mail app will open. There you go, you have launched the mail app for the first time. The first time you open Mail, you'll land on the Welcome screen. Press Enter on Get Started. Now, you are ready to start using the Win10 Mail App. If you have a Microsoft Account, your MS email account should already be imported into the mail app. Section Two: Putting the Mail, Calendar, and People apps on your Desktop, or pinning them to your taskbar: Finally, let us begin to learn how to use these three apps. You may want to pin all three apps, Mail, Calendar, and People, to your taskbar, or put them on your desktop as short cuts. To put them as short cuts on your Desktop, press Windows key+R to open the run dialog. just type: shell:appsfolder In a second, all of your apps will be in a list. Just press the first letter of the one you want until you hear, Mail, for example. Now, press your applications key or Shift+F10. Now, press the up arrow key once to hear: Create short cut. Enter on that, and you will hear: Short cut cannot be created here, do you want to put it on the desktop instead? Just press enter, and the Mail app will be on your Desktop. To pen it to the taskbar, just press the Windows Key or CTRL+Escape and type Mail, for example. When you hear Mail, just press the appllications key or Shift+F10 and arrow down to: Pin to taskbar and press enter. The Mail app will be on your Taskbar. You can do the same for the Calendar and People apps. Section Three A Few Key Commands to get started: Here are a few commands to use the mail app. Tab key: The tab key will get you anywhere you need to go in the mail app. Also, F6 will take you to different sections of the app. These three apps, mail, people, and calendar apps have been made so accessible, that you can use the PC cursor with JAWS. Also, no object navigation needs to be done in these three apps with NVDA. Narrator works great as well. When you read messages with Narrator, Scan mode needs to be activated by pressing: Caps Lock+Spacebar. That command toggles the Scan Mode on and off with Narrator. You only want to turn on Scan Mode to read messages. You want it off the rest of the time. Even when you type a message, Scan Mode needs to be turnned off. Scan Mode is just for reading. When a message is opened with JAWS, you are put in a virtual viewer so you can use the virtual cursor, just like in a web page. Now, to work with messages: to send your message, press alt+S. To reply to a message: press ctrl+R. to forward a message: press CTRL+F. to create a new message: press CTRL+N. As you type the email address, choices will populate to choose from. To insert an attachment, press Alt+I. You can then brows for the file you want to attach. All other key commands for all three of these apps, will be put at the end of this tutorial. Section Four: Importing your first account into the Mail App Now, let us add our first account. From the list of messages for your MS account, tab to manage accounts and press enter. If you do not have an MS email account imported in to the Mail app, just Tab to Manage Accounts and press enter. Next, tab to the Add account button and press enter. You will be in a list of account types you can add. In the Choose an account dialog, use the Down Arrow key to go through the list of account types (Outlook.com, Exchange, Google, Yahoo Mail, and so on). When you hear the name of your account type, press Enter. For example, if you want to add a Gmail account, press enter on Google. Next, Enter the email address for the account that you want to add. Now, tab to the password box, and enter your password. Press the Tab key to move to the Sign in button and press enter. Now, press enter again on the: done button. Your email account should import into the Mail app in seconds, and your emails will be in your in box from the last three months. Now, if it does not work to import an account by choosing Google, for example, any account will import into this choice: Go to the account choice: other account, IMAP or POP. Any account, Pop or IMAP, will import under this choice, even a Google account. Only a few POP email Accounts will have to be imported by hand with all of the settings. For most accounts, your email and password will be enough to import the account. The last account choice, is the advanced account. Enter on this last choice if you need to enter in all of your account settings by hand. The only reason why you need the advanced account choice is to import a few older POP 3 accounts and set them up by hand. To import all of your accounts: Just

Hi David, I think I have the correct tutorial. It was sent out to either the windows 10 list or the NVDA list fairly recently. One thing I really miss are hot keys. All this tabbing is going to give me carpal tunnel syndrome. Smile. If there are hot keys for things like sending a message et Cetera, how can I access a list of same? Also, when in the message list, pressing enter on the message with focus doesn’t always seem to result in being able to do a say all with Jaws key Plus down arrow. It’s probably operator error, but it is frustrating. Hi all, I have found the keystrokes that allow you to change the rate of the current voice on the fly, that is, without entering into the Jaws voices menu. But I’m not seeing any means of changing voices or languages within a given speech profile, assuming the one you pick has multiple languages installed. When used between two words instead of a regular space the two words can be forced to be at the beginning or end of the same line. Nonbreaking spaces can also be used to produce different alignment of text on the same line. The code you would enter on the number pad while holding down Alt key is 0160. You can enter a nonbreaking space by holding down CTRL with shift keys and pressing spacebar. The nonbreaking spaces should not be removed when replacing paragraph marks with tabs. You don't want to replace nonbreaking spaces with tabs because when converting to a table using tabs as column dividers you will end up with unwanted columns and text that is meant to be together in the same column being separated into different columns. I went to the web site you sent me and I think I found a way to get the information pasted with vertical bars dividing the columns. When pasted in Word I think the text can then be converted into a table and the vertical bars used as column dividers or they can be changed to tabs that can be used as column dividers. The site is quite difficult to navigate and copying information isn't really a straightforward process. Perhaps you can send the link to this list and see if someone else can offer a way to handle it. I will Email you privately as well but I won't be able to spend time on this until later tomorrow. If using 013 in a Find and Replace dialog box in Word you would need to put a caret (shift on 6) before the numbers. However, using caret followed by a lower case p does the same thing. Take care. I tried to find these values. How did you know that it is a paragraph mark? I did find that Notepad has a hex converter but had no idea how to add on this plug in. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Brian Lee Sent: Monday, November 13, 2017 9:04 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Id a blank character Hi Ann Marie, The character at the end of each line except the bottom line is a paragraph mark. To replace it in Word you can use a caret (shift key with 6) followed by a lower case p. In the Replace With box you can use caret mark followed immediately by a lower case t. Hi all, I have just joined this list with a new copy of JAWS 2018 installed on a Windows 10 64-bit pc. It has been years since I used JAWS, so I'm the next thing to a newby. I'm interested in the use of the Windows 10 mail client with JAWS. Because of issues with the Edge browser, and the fact that this mail app is apparently based on that engine, I am thinking that it might not be all that great with JAWS until the underlying Edge issues are fully solved. Is that true? I'd like to be wrong, as I really don't think I need a mail app as complex as Outlook, which I don't own in any case. Advice, please?
