Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word Question
I just added the shortcut. Patti Thanks. I finally found out how to remove the tables and keep the text. If you want the information, for future reference, here it is: 1. When the document is open, make sure you are in the table. 2. Select the first word in the table, then press alt to activate the ribbon. *And the shortcut is Alt J, L, and then V Don't need 4. Press Shift Tab until you get to the "Convert To Text" button. Press Spacebar. 5. Arrow down to "Separate by commas", then tab twice to get to "Okay". Viola. Thanks for the assist. -Original Message- From: Mike B. With the document open open your context menu with applications key or shift + F10, and turn off the detect table settings. 2. With the document open, open quick settings with the keystroke, Jaws key + V, and turn off the detect table settings. 3. Copy and paste the whole Word document into a text file. This will remove all formatting, then you can copy & paste the file back into a new Word document. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers. Sent from my iBarstool. Patti Hi Instead of Modifying the default.jss and default.jsb files for a new script, you could set up a keystroke to make the PrintScreen key be your applications key. There is already a script in JAWS 17, 18, 2018 and possibly earlier to invoke the applications key. It is dangerous to have a copy of the default.jsb file in your JAWS user folder. Any JAWS update can install a new version of default.jsb that can make your copy of that file useless. When I do that I get this error, and I don't know what to do. Microsoft Outlook The rule has a condition that the server cannot process. The action 'stop processing more rules' will prevent all remaining server rules from being carried out. Are you sure this is what you want to do? Yes No Was this information helpful? Hi, once you have created the rule this easy way go back into the rules menu under applications. Arrow down this list and you will find manage rules. This will bring up a list of all your rules. Highlight the rule you want the sound for then tab to modify and hit enter. In here you should be able to go through all your settings for that rule and find the sound option. I hope this helps, I tried going through the steps myself before sending but my computer refused to go into the rules menu option. >From Shaz. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of patti Sent: Tuesday, December 26, 2017 12:37 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] making a rule Ok what about making a sound different from your inbox. Arrow up and down through the list of folders in this tree view, find the new folder, press enter. 10. Re: [JAWS-Users] word docx to notepad txt
What about pressing F12 to save as? I'm not sure which version of Word you are using. But in most cases, there is a "Save As" option under the File menu. When you press that option, it gives you a list of choices, one of which is a .txt format. You will probably be warned about losing some of the configuration details, but the text will be saved. Re: [JAWS-Users] Message reading in Outlook 2010
Where did you do the insert V at? I was in my outlook, and when I pressed insert V, it did nothing. I have a hard time reading when I get emails in a table. Patti I'm posting this in case it helps others. Some email I receive is set up in table form. I struggled with one just now because JAWS 2018 distracted me with information I didn't need and seemed to have difficulty reading the entire contents. I went to JAWS quick settings with JAWS key+v and found two options under "Word," then "Tables," that I unchecked. One was for reading coordinates, the other for table detection. With both unchecked, JAWS read the message fine. Re: [JAWS-Users] Re-starting Jaws 18
I have my shortcut as jaws 17, alt, ctrl 7 And jaws 18, alt, ctrl, 8 That makes it easy for me, lol. Patti I agree with Adrian. I've found that I have to manually remove the shortcut from the previous JAWS version before I can put it in for the latest version installed. For me this is not a big deal as again, I have the same practice as Adrian. I usually have the current version, and the 2 previous versions installed on my machine. So I go in and first change the oldest version to Control+Alt+L, the version prior to the current version to Control+Alt+Control+Alt+k, and set the current version to Control+Alt+j. Someone posted a while ago that creating a shortcut for a new version of JAWS makes the shortcut go away in the earlier one, but that was never my experience. Sometimes I'll assign a hotkey to each version of JAWS on my system, such as control-alt-j for the current version, control-alt-k for the preceding one, etc. But you can see the problem. The logical shortcut would be control-alt-I, since I precedes j in the alphabet, but I've already assigned control-alt-I to Internet Explorer. In any event, be sure to remove an the shortcut from an old version of JAWS before assigning that shortcut to the new version. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mr. Ed Sent: Friday, August 04, 2017 8:01 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Re-starting Jaws 18 Hi Miriam, When you install a new version of Jaws you will have to put the hotkey back in again. Press the application key and arrow up one time and press enter on properties. 4. Tab two times and you should hear short cut key. If it says none then press the letter J If it says shortcut key ctrl+alt+J then just press the escape key. 6. Now tab until you hear ok, then press enter. Another dialog box may come up just press yes or continue then you should be done. Now you should have a shortcut key so when you press ctrl+alt+J it should start Jaws. Re: [JAWS-Users] non breaking space
Thank you for this, and it works very well. Hello Patti In the Replace page of the Find and Replace dialog box put ^followed by a small s in the Find what and then use a regular space in the Replace With field. Remember that nonbreaking spaces can be used to enable different horizontal alignment for words on the same line and that could be messed up. If that isn't the case then using the ^s should work for you. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Irregular text sizes in Word
The shortcut key for this is? 1, select all, ctrl A 2, press Alt, shift, ctrl, S 3, press F6 4, enter on clear formatting 5, press F6 again 6, press ctrl space bar 7, up arrow to close 8, press enter, and that will put you back on your document Patti Hello- What Adrian says works quite well. There is another option, if I am in a document that has different formatting features that I don't want I select the whole doc with Control a or I select a specific portion of a document if the issue are related to only one part of the doc. Then, I press the Alt key and make sure I am on the Home menu. I arrow down once and tab through the formatting choices until I get to "Clear formatting." I press enter on the clear formatting choice and all formatting returns to what the default is set for in MS Word. At that point I can make any changes I wish for the whole doc or portions of that doc. Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issues with Jaws and Outlook 2016
When I start losing focus this is what I do I go to my desktop, and put the mouse curser in the upper left-hand corner, and that helps. Patti Hello list, Using JFW 18 and Outlook 2016, I often encounter an issue where I'm working in Outlook, be it the calendar, mail or notes view and Jaws will lose focus and start speaking the content of another view in outlook. The only way for me to get focus back and navigate the window I'm in is to tab/shift+tab or control+tab/control+shift+tab. I have noticed this issue in earlier versions of Jaws 18/ 17, etc. Also in Outlook 2010. I'm not entireley sure, but it feels like it's happening more often with Outlook 2016. It could be though that this is the program I use the most throughout the day and thus deal with this focus issue more often because of it. Is anyone else dealing with this problem and do they perhaps have a fix for it that I'm maybe not aware of? That or is it another one of those Jaws buggy issues? I do encounter this problem on two separate machines. A Dell desktop and HP laptop. So I'm pretty certain it's not a system specific issue. Thanks. Re: [JAWS-Users] print screen
Oh I think I get what you are saying. When I press the print screen it goes to the clipboard, but if I copy something else it is covered up with the new one? Is that right? Lol I'm slapping myself, and the light just came on. Patti Patti, Here's what I find out courtesy of Google. Actually, Jorge gave you all the clues. Online post: When you press the Print Screen key, the screen- shot is copied to your Windows Clipboard. Each successive capture replaces the last. If you wish to save these screenshots they must be pasted into a program that can save them, Windows Paint for example. Back to me. So, it seems you've accidentally set up your system to save "print screen" pictures to your Paint folder. You can access that folder as follows: Press the Windows key Arrow up once to "all programs" Right arrow once Up arrow once Press a the letter repeatedly until you hear "Accessories" Press right arrow once Press p for Paint. Press enter. On my system, I can open the ribbon with the alt key. Beyond that, I can't help because I don't have any pictures saved there. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of patti Sent: Monday, April 17, 2017 3:29 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] print screen Ok let me clarify what I'm looking for, smiles. Re: [JAWS-Users] Issues after yesterday's updates to windows 10
I did not see your lesson on iTunes. Patti Good morning Jaws Users list. First of all, I hope you get this message and I receive it back. Thanks for helping me David. After yesterday's monthly updates to W-10, I am noticing some strange behavior. 1. Using Outlook 2016, after pressing Control+N, for new message, Normally I just type two letters and the email is filled in for me. Not now, it just says the two letters, I must Tab one time to see the entire email address. 2. Using Internet explorer, After pressing ALT+A, you just used the arrow keys to see your favorite websites, not any more, I just hear A, no matter what I press, if I read a current line, it is sitting on Ad to favorites, my wife said that she can see the favorites as I up and down arrow, but Jaws is not changing and saying what site I am currently sitting on. Is anyone else experiencing these strange issues in W-10 after yesterday's updates? So the Jaws Users list did receive both of my lessons yesterday? Did you find the Using iTunes 12 with Jaws 18 text file, useful in learning iTunes? Thanks for any help with these issues. Smiles. Hey Gang, How do you keep your passwords when you use C cleaner. I'm running Windows10, and Jaws18. Thanks Patti Hi Mike, thanks for the link. I have not used c cleaner for a while. But I had no issues downloading, installing and running it on my W-10 computer. I do not use the c cleaner registry cleaner, I believe it removes too much stuff, but I do use the other tools. I am just curious, what are some of your opinions about using the c cleaner, registry cleaner? C cleaner works very smooth in W-10. It responds very quickly while using Jaws 18. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. Re: [JAWS-Users] Another Excel question
Hi 1, be at the top of the column you want to copy 2, press shift+space bar That selects the whole column Ctrl+space bar selects the whole roll Then you can copy to the clipboard Hi Adam! The brute force method would be to make a copy of the entire sheet, then delete the columns you don't want. A more elegant approach, would be to select each column you want to copy, then use copy and paste to copy it to the new sheet. Unfortunately I don't think there's a keyboard equivalent to clicking the column header buttons to select the entire column, so you'll have to locate the end of each column and select all the cells from there to the beginning of the column, then, use copy and paste to copy the column to the new sheet. I'd love to be proven wrong by someone who knows how to select entire columns or rows. hth Cheers! Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 18 updates available
Thanks Brian, It worked. Patti Hi Patti, I just recompiled my SkypeWatch script and JAWS is announcing when someone comes on line. Try the following to see if it works for you: When focus is in Skype use insert with 0 to open the Skype.JSS file. Go under the File menu and press enter key on the Open Shared Script menu item. Type SkypeWatch (one word) into the edit box and oppress enter key. This opens the SkypeWatch.JSS file. Press CTRL with S to recompile the script. You should then be able to use Alt F4 and hopefully things will work right. The default.JSS in the shared scripts might also need the line "Use SkypeWatch.jsb" But I checked the default.JSS file and the line is already included. This worked for me. If it doesn't work for you then hopefully someone else on the list can help. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] skype
Hi Brian, I checked out everything you wrote, and all the settings in Skype are check. Now when I went to Notifications and Actions I couldn't find anything that said Skype, and I did it twice. I copied my Skype scrips from J17, and put them in J18 E N U folder, but still Skype doesn't tell me who is on or off line in J18. Now in J17 my Skype works fine, so do you have any other thoughts? Patti Hello Patti, Here are some settings you might check in Skype and in Windows 10. According to the JAWS help the notifications are supposed to be automatically spoken. I don't use Skype notifications but I hope that when the following Skype and Windows settings are set that JAWS will announce the notifications for you. Go into the Skype notification settings by pressing Alt with T, press enter on options, and arrow down to the notification category. Tab across the options in that category. Enable Skype for Windows desktop notifications should likely be checked. As you tab across check or uncheck the checkboxes to reflect what you want. The checkboxes are "Comes on line", "Goes off line", "Starts an IM with me", "Sends me a video message", "Sends me a file", "Request my contact details", "Leaves me a voice message," "Has a birthday," "Sends me contacts", "Sends me a message", "Recording a video message or sharing screens." The next Skype category is notifications sounds. In the Skype options the "Accessibility Mode" should be checked under the accessibility category. The following is from the JAWS help system regarding Skype: When Skype alerts you to an incoming call, JAWS automatically speaks the text of the notification regardless of what application you are currently using. The notification is also shown on the braille display as a flash message. You can also press INSERT+SPACEBAR followed by SHIFT+R to repeat the incoming call notification. If you are in a chat window typing messages back and forth with another Skype user, JAWS automatically announces incoming messages as they are received. Incoming messages are also shown on the braille display as a flash message. If you are involved in multiple conversations and you are using the Compact View, which opens each conversation in a separate window, JAWS will also read incoming messages from other conversations in the background. To repeat the last background message, press INSERT+SPACEBAR followed by SHIFT+R. In Windows 10 Skype should be allowed to give notifications. Use Windows key I to go into settings. If you have the anniversary edition of Windows 10 then each time you go into a new level in settings focus goes to the search box so you need to tab to the list of items. After using Windows key I choose System from the list. After choosing System choose Notifications and Actions. Tab to the checkbox "Get notifications from apps and other senders" and have it checked. You will then need to tab multiple times to find Skype preview and other Skype related items. Make sure they are checked. Take care. Unfortunately, the results were the same when I attempted to make Internet Explorer the default browser using the control panel as when I had used the Default Programs app. I also tried changing the default browser back to Edge, which allowed me to open that browser with no dialog when I opened a link in an email. Then I used the Control Panel to again make IE the default browser. But again every time I open a link in at email I first get the dialog that says; How do you want to open this web site? [JAWS-Users] Speak Dropbox & updating all the time
Hey Aaron, Can you tell me why SpeakDropbox is updating all the time? No one is putting anything in my dropbox, but about 3 times an hour it makes the sound, and then it says updated. I'm running the latest of your SpeakDropBox. This is happening to a few of my friends. What can I do?
