[JAWS-Users] Questions Regarding migration from XP to Windows 7
Hello everyone. I am finally going to join the Windows 7 community but have several questions about converting from XP. I am considering using Image for Windows to be sure everything gets backed up but I don't want to restore everything only to find XP has been put back on my system. I have many folders within Outlook express and don't want to lose these e-mails. Will I be able to open them with Windows Live mail? Also, do I have to reformat my hard drive before putting Windows 7 on it or can I install it over XP? Finally, I am currently using Jaws 11. Will this work with Windows 7 or do I have to upgrade to a higher version of Jaws? All suggestions are appreciated as I have never done this before without sighted assistance and I'm just a little nervous about doing this. Thanks in advance. If you use Windows Easy Transfer, it may transfer your messages to Windows Live Mail. Problem with that is that you aren't going to be able to do that if you are upgrading an existing computer instead of going to a new one. So, you can get the messages over but you will probably have to create an export file and then import it into WLM. You can't upgrade from XP to Windows 7. You need to do a clean installation, or at least that is the heavily recommended way. - Original Message - From: Pedro Romero phre...@comcast.net To: Jaws Users jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Saturday, April 19, 2014 12:01 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Questions Regarding migration from XP to Windows 7 Hello everyone. [JAWS-Users] Question Regarding Excel 2007 and Jaws
Hello all. I am using Windows XP, Jaws 11 and Excel 2007. Is there a way I can get Jaws to read the contents of a particular cell without having to navigate to it. Also, does anyone know of a good totorial on Excel 2007? As always, all help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Re: [JAWS-Users] Smiley face saying J
Hi Stephanie, You might want to try putting it in to your Jaws dictionary and telling it to pronounce it in whichever way you prefer. Hope this helps. Pete For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] Smiley face saying J
Hi Stephanie, I don't use it that often but I go to the Jaws window then type insert+d to get to the Jaws dictionaryManager. Hopefully this will get you started. Pete For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

[JAWS-Users] Question about program compatibility
Hello all. My friend found two programs on the Jaws-users site and is wondering if they are compatible with Windows seven. The programs in question are Audiograbber and Burn at once. During the installation of these programs, she got a warning about how these could potentially harm the computer. Are these simply standard warnings or should she refrain from installing them at all? Any advice is appreciated. Pete For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] Total Recorder and JAWS
Hi Susan. I don't know of a work around other than to suggest that you purchase an inexpensive USB sound card then you can have Jaws go through this new card and I don't imagine it would then get in the way of your recordings which would be heard through your regular soundcard. Hope this helps. Pete For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
[JAWS-Users] Copying a table
Hi all. I am using Jaws 11 and Windows XP and am wondering how to copy a table so that I can paste it in to a Word document and read the data using standard table reading commands. I tried it by highlighting the table but when I pasted it in to a blank Word document, Jaws said table not found. I then tried insert+Z while in the Word doc and got the same message. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Pete For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] winamp and playing more then one song
Hi Brad. I am using a fairly old version of Winamp but here is how I make playlists. If I want to play more than one track at a time, I open Winamp then press letter L then shif-tab in to the folder where my songs are located. Select the ones you want then press Enter and they should start playing. If you want to create a playlist, you might press Alt+E then control+tab to open the playlist editor. Press letter L to add tracks to the playlist. Add as many tracks as you like even if they reside in different folders. You can move from folder to folder using either shift+L or just backspacing to the various folders. You can then save the playlist with control+S. Note: you can obtain a list of winamp keystrokes specifically for the playlist editor by pressing insert+W while in the playlist editor. Hope this helps. Re: [JAWS-Users] winamp and playing more then one song
Hi Brad. If you copy the files in your playlist to Victor Stream there will be no problem. However, if you move the files from your computer to your Stream, they will no longer be in your computer and the Playlist file will not work because it won't be able to locate the files you've asked it to play. I'm wondering whether you are able to highlight the date then delete it before typing in the new one. Also, if you can't read the numbers with forms mode on, try turning it off so you can at least read the numbers to be sure they're correct. Hope this helps. Re: [JAWS-Users] How to access Thesaurus
Hi Janie. Here are the steps I received from Brian Lee and they seem to be working quite well. Hello, I am using Word 2010 but I think getting a list of synonyms is the same in Word 2007. Select the word that you want a synonym for and use your application key. Use up arrow a few times and you should find a menu choice for synonyms. Use right arrow key into the list and down arrow key to hear the various synonyms. In Word 2010, after selecting the word and using the application key, the letter Y puts focus right in the list of synonyms. You can also launch the thesaurus from that menu. When you are in a document, use F6 to switch between the panes. Take care. Brian Lee For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

[JAWS-Users] How to access Thesaurus
Hello all. I am currently using Windows XP, Word 2007 and Jaws 11. When I try to access the thesaurus using Word, it's hit or miss. Sometime it works and sometimes not. I am pressing Shift f7 then the context key then Y to get jaws to read the list of synonyms. Does anyone know of a more reliable way of accessing the thesaurus? Thanks in advance.
