Re: [JAWS-Users] Facebook Question

2018-01-24 Thread JM Casey
Yeah, this works, and is ok if you've only liked a few pages. But
m.facebook.com is designed to have barely any text on the screen, for mobile
users. This means you have to keep hitting the "see more" button over and
over and over again until you find the one you want. Not a very efficient
solution, in my opinion. Better to just type in what you are looking for in
the search box, even though in a way it circumvents the way we are told
facebook is supposed to operate.

Yes, Dennis, that is the option I am talking about. However, it's not ideal.
You should be able to have the names appear in links, say, in mid-sentence.
That's what most people do. When they make a post, tryping in a person's
name highlights that name and automatically turns it into a link. It looks
like, unless someone has another solution, "tag friends" is pretty much the
only thing you can do with m.facebook.com.

using the search box. I know, we want all this stuff to come up
automatically in our feeds. But that's just not the way facebook works.
Believe me, people complain about this stuff all the time.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Facebook Question

2018-01-23 Thread JM Casey
Yes, Dennis, that is the option I am talking about. However, it's not ideal.
You should be able to have the names appear in links, say, in mid-sentence.
That's what most people do. When they make a post, tryping in a person's
name highlights that name and automatically turns it into a link. It looks
like, unless someone has another solution, "tag friends" is pretty much the
only thing you can do with m.facebook.com.

HI Judy.
I think I know what you are talking about, and I have come to the conclusion
that m.facebook.com is just kind of broken. The only way I have found to tag
people is to use the "tag friends" option in the "more" section you can open
when making a post. There just does not seem to be any other way to do it.
You might have better luck with the regular facebook site, but I don't blame
you for not wanting to use it as it's quite a bit more cluttered.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Facebook Question

2018-01-22 Thread Judy Jones
Good ideas, and thanks for the clarification.

Yes, using Jaws 18 with m.facebook.com.

I would like to know how to do a hyper link on Facebook when writing the
post. For instance, gone shopping with daughter Jada, Jada being the hyper
link, as she is on Facebook also. I know I can tag her, but like the hyper
link idea, as I have seen others do it and wanted to try.

Thanks.

Judy

Face book is a perfectly fine topic to discuss on this list so long as you
are using JAWS to access it. So far as I know you use JAWS or you wouldn't
have been on here for such a long time.

Just to clarify for all concerned, when ever you are not certain about a
given topic write to the owner address on the help page and one of us will
answer you.

No, there should be a alternative captcha. If you can't hear the audio, you
may need to use Google Chrome or Firefox with a plug-in to one of the
captcha solving services. But, if you can hear the audio, it is accessible.

Hello Miriam,

I have Jaws 18 and IE 11 too and also do not have a lot of knowledge
regarding computer technology. That being said, setting up a Facebook
account for me was very easy, done without sighted help, and is quite
accessible. Trying to use the regular Facebook site was a nightmare for me
and quite unaccessible.

I would go to m.facebook.com, enter on create an account, and pretty much
follow the instructions from there. If you need further help don't hesitate
to ask .. Good luck!

2017-09-13 Thread wayne smith
I just went to my FB account using the m.facebook.com mobile version. After
reading my notifications I returned to Facebook by clicking on the Facebook
link at the top. Now I have my Home page and I arrow down past where I can
post an update and then right above my first article is a clear button that
say Clear notifications. I hit enter on the button and away they go. Look
right below where you can post an update and right above the first news
article and there it should be. If you are using the full FB page that
could be your problem.

Try to press the Notification Options button that appears after each

At least in the Facebook app for Android, you can hold a notification with your

Hope it helps!

2017-06-25 Thread Fernando Gregoire
I usually find friends or people I am interested in by using first and last
names. Often the first result is not the one I want, but in the desktop website
the search box has auto-completion, which is accessible by pressing Down Arrow
to drop down the list box, which in addition to listing results eases the
search for us by displaying additional information, such as college or work
data, next to the person's name.
Once you found the result you want, you can press ENTER on it and Facebook will
open that user's profile page automatically. If the desired result is not in t
first quick list, you can press ENTER on the See More Results item; the
complete results page is browsable using normal navigation and reading commands.

If you type in the facebook username exactly as it appears in the search box,
they will (probably) come up if they are your friend. Just a first or last name
is sometimes not enough. Also make sure you select search for "people", which
will narrow down results if it's needed.

Hi Justin!
Type the URL:
m.facebook.com
You will be on the mobile site of Facebook, by far the easiest to use. Make
sure you use IE 11. Other browsers do not render the mobile site quite right,
and it is confusing. Just press e, for edit, and go into forms mode. You are in
the search field. Just type a friend’s name and press enter. Press H for
heading, and arrow down to the choices. Sometimes, there are some choices that
is not your friend that has the same name. You will know which one is your
friend, because it will not say add friend. That is the one you enter on!
Hope that helps!

message in the messages section. I can find my recipient, and it appears to
be in the recipient edit field, but above the field, there is a message that
says No Recipients.

Any advice on any workarounds?

Other than that, I'm loving Chrome, and have only been using it for a few
hours. BTW, I am using the mobile site for Facebook, but have found the
same problem with Messenger on the regular Facebook site. Using Jaws 17
with Windows 10.

Thanks.

Judy

[JAWS-Users] Facebook Edit Boxes in Google Chrome.

2017-03-01 Thread Judy Jones
Hello, Listers,

I have not been on a JAWS list since the freelists days.

I am using Jaws 17, and have just discovered Google Chrome, love it, but
find I am having problems in filling in edit boxes on Facebook. So far, I
am not seeing the same problems on other sites. For instance, Jaws will
make the click that opens the edit box, but when I think the letters I am
typing are showing, they are not, nothing is being typed in.

Any advice or ideas?

BTW, I tried both the regular facebook site and the mobile site.

Thanks.

Justin, I can answer your first two questions. If the person that added you to
the private Facebook group is not a moderator of the group you will have to
wait for the group's moderator to approve your join request. To answer your
second question..If you reply to a Facebook message that you receive by email,
yes the sender will receive your reply. With that been said, this is the case
for me anyway. It seems at times that Facebook & Facebook messenger is
different for people.

the reply get back to the person, no, it does not.
Talking from experience. lol

re group messages go through e-mail, I think it depends on your fb settings,
but I don't quite recall how that works, because I disabled my fb

In my humble opinion, if one has strong internet navigation skills, facebook
shouldn't be an issue.
It's like any other page, knowing where important links are which in this
case: notes, groups, posting, unfriending, blocking, settings, etc.
All a trainer would need to do is explore facebook and know where everything
is.
That's the reason why I opened up a fb page as I knew when I was about to
train someone was going to ask for fb training.

Thanks, Jorge, that's the answer. To elaborate, one way you can confirm the
message was sent is to go back to the edit field and check if the text has
disappeared. Oddly enough, JAWS reports there's text there even if it's
gone, so go inside the edit field to verify. I understand you can also go to
your own inbox and check the "Sent" folder, but I haven't tried that yet.

Note. The first time you press enter, you may only be leaving forms mode, so

I want to send a private message to a Facebook member, not something that
will appear in "chat." From a Google check, I understand that the intended
recipient has to have enabled message sending. I believe this person has,
since there is a button labeled "Message." There's also an edit field. The
instructions I found indicated that after entering text, tab to the "Send"
button. However, I find no such button. I do find buttons that aren't
labeled, along with a "Send money" and one other unrelated send button.

Can anyone say if the unlabeled button that appears after the text field is
the one I want? Any other thoughts?

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Facebook, how to send a private message, unlabeled
button

I want to send a private message to a Facebook member, not something that
will appear in "chat." From a Google check, I understand that the intended
recipient has to have enabled message sending. I believe this person has,
since there is a button labeled "Message." There's also an edit field. The
instructions I found indicated that after entering text, tab to the "Send"
button. However, I find no such button. I do find buttons that aren't
labeled, along with a "Send money" and one other unrelated send button.

Can anyone say if the unlabeled button that appears after the text field is
the one I want? Any other thoughts?

2016-04-14 Thread Adrian Spratt
Kimsan, I did try the mobile version. Here's the problem there, and maybe you
or someone else has a suggestion for this part. The person I located after many
years has a very common name. Let's say it's John Smith, which it isn't.
Through Google, I found what is almost certainly the right regular Facebook
page for that person based on the biographical data there. However, when I
searched for that name on the mobile version, all those thousands of extraneous
people with the same name came up and I couldn't restrict the search terms.

So, any idea how I can find the mobile version of a regular Facebook page?

Is this via the regular fb page? I hardly use that beast, instead I use the
mobile version and sending private messages there has not given me any
problems.
Sorry, I totally didn't answer your question about the unlabled button.

Re: [JAWS-Users] facebook question

2015-03-01 Thread Kimsan
From the regular fb site, simply type the at sign which is shift and number
two under the function keys along with their name.
You can down arrow and press enter once you find the name.
I say down arrow because after pressing the @ sign and the first letter of
the name, it might not be the person you are looking for, unless you type
the entire name and then it will pick it up. It's kind of like how the auto
complete works in outlook.
The mobile site on m.facebook.com site takes a little longer so I just tag
from the regular site.
Here is how you tag from the mobile site, if you have a day to spair...
After typing the post, don't press enter, simply down arrow and there will
be unlabled buttons, press spacebar on the last one, then the next thing you
will need to do is press the letter b to navigate by buttons, and press
spacebar on the first unlabeled button and then you will be in a dialog with
your friends name, check the box of the friend you would like to tag, press
x to navigate from checkbox to checkbox, press b until you here done, press
spacebar, then press b until you here post and press spacebar to post the
post.
From the mobile site, when you read it back, if you were to let's say tag
me, it will say, Kathy pinstock with Kimsan song and then whatever you
posted.
On the regular site, it will just say the persons name wherever you tagged
them, for example, this is my post I am sending to link Kathy pingstop so I
hope she doesn't think I am weird for writing such a stupid post.
I hope that helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] facebook personal page

2015-02-13 Thread Mike Boyd

I am not quite sure what you are referring to as a Personal Page, as to
me, this is the page that I see when I sign into my Facebook account, and
also what others see when they visit my page. However, if you mean Pages,
then I think I might be able to help you out. A Page can be created by any
Facebook member, and it can be about any topic that he or she would like it
to be about, within Facebook's Terms and Conditions of course. For instance,
I have created a page for a nonprofit organization to which I belong to, and
it was very easy to create. I first recommend that no one try to do this
from the regular Facebook web site, only use the mobile site:
http://m.facebook.com, or the Facebook mobile app either on an iPhone or
Android phone. I like using the mobile web site on my computer, simply for
the reason that it is faster than trying to enter a lot of information on a
phone. When you go to the Facebook web site, you will find just below where
the links to your messages, notifications, etc. are listed, and just abouve
the search field, a link to Pages. Clicking on this link will bring you to a
page where you will have the opportunity to search for a particular page
that belongs to someone else, create a new page, or edit an existing page
that you manage. Naturally, to create a page, simply click on that link to
get started. When creating a new page, you will be presented several edit
fields, combo boxes, etc. to format your page as you would like it. First
you will give your page a name, then you can enter a short description of
what the page is about, this must be brief, as I believe you only have 150
characters or so available to input into this field. A little further down
the creation page, you will have the opportunity to enter a broader
description of your page and or just tell about yourself or whatever. You
will also be given the opportunity to post pictures and important events
that might have or will be happening. There are a few other fields that you
can fill out, not all are required, and I believe they consist of things
like your location and so on. When you are finished setting up your page, at
the end of the page creation section, you will find an I agree check box,
and a Create Page button. If you have done everything correctly and within
Facebook's guidelines, your page will be created. From this point forward,
you should visit your page often to update the information posted to it,
removing temporary events which have past, adding new pictures, and whatever
you would like to do with it. Pages can be a fun way of sharing your
information, allowing other people to get a better insight into your life to
the extent that you post, and to hear what others think of the things that
you have posted there.

I hope that this gives you a good picture of how to go about creating a
page, and that you find it helpful in creating your own page. Note: If you
use a iPhone to create your page, I believe you will find some of the
pertinent links in the dock.
Please feel free to check out my own page, which as said, was created to
promote a nonprofit organization that I am the vice president of, it is
called Bayou Region Chapter of Affiliated Blind of Louisiana. The page is
relatively new, and does not have many postings yet, but it will give you an
example.
