Re: [JAWS-Users] links

2018-03-25 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi Holger,

If you are composing your e-mail as plain text, it will actually be no
hyperlinks, so the presence of clickable links will depend on wetter the
recipients e-mail client or web service recognizes web addresses or the type of
link that pertaining text is likely to be.
If you want to be sure that links will be recogniced as such, use HTML format
when composing your message and, although by default WLM converts links
automatically, you can be even more sure if you manually use the option for
inserting an hyperlink, which in WLM I don't remember if it can be done by
pressing CTRL+K as in Outlook or if it's necessary to select the text first and
then choosing an item in the Insert tab, similar to the procedure in Outlook
Express. But be aware that this won't work if the recipient configured their
e-mail client (or if it was automatically configured so by an antivirus) to
read all messages as plain text.

Hope it helps!

Hello Patti,

The message I sent you earlier about using CTRL with shift and F9 is for
changing text as a field set up in a Word document to regular text. If you are
pasting links that originated in Excel then you likely just want to use the
CTRL Alt V (Paste special command) and choose to paste as unformatted text.
However, for links set up in word using the CTRL with shift key and
F9 removes a field including a hyperlink field and leaves just the text with
the normal style.

Take care.

I'm not sure what you're actually running, but if it's Outlook 2010, and
probably later versions of Outlook, place focus somewhere inside the link,
press the applications key and arrow up until you find the hyperlink-related

Re: [JAWS-Users] links in a document

2018-02-12 Thread Brian Lee
Hi Patti,

Being that the links were coming from a different program even though the
link was removed the text attributes might not have changed. The steps I
gave in my first message were for links created in word using the hyperlink
field. The CTRL with shift and f9 still might remove the link but the text
that is left might not match what you want. You might want to check the
text for which you removed the links and see if the attributes changed or if
you have to change them. If you use JAWS key F on the text that was a link
you can hear the attributes announced. If at this point you need to change
the font, font size, color, etc. of the text you removed the hyperlink from,
and if you have nearby text you want to match, here is what to do. Select
at least one character of the text you want matched and use CTRL with shift
and C to copy it. Select the text that you removed the hyperlink from but
which retained the attributes applied by the origin program, and use CTRL
with shift and V to paste the formatting you copied.

Again, if you copy the links from another program you might just want to use
paste special and choose unformatted text. However, if the links were
created with Word fields then using CTRL with shift and f9 is a quick way to
do it.

Take care.

Please keep in mind that displaying your messages in HTML is less secure
then displaying them in plain text.

This way, when the e-mail is in plain text, you don't have files that
might be viruses being activated, or beacons being triggered for fishing
e-mails.

I, for one, would not rely on my anti-virus, especially since I'm using
the free one by Microsoft, to completely secure my computer, so I take
every precaution.

If you find this is only happening a fraction of the time, in other words,
you're mostly copying links to send space, or something like that, it's
best to leave it in plain text, and if there's a link you have to click on
to go view a product, let's say, press the keystroke of alt+shift+H, this
will switch the e-mail into HTML, and keep the rest of your e-mails
secure.

Just a thought.

Mike, it does work when I copy the link and then paste it into the address
bar in IE
That's how I've done it the last few times now.

For some reason, this problem just started out of the blue. I have no idea

I'll have to use the copy/paste go-round.

Hi Arianna,

Did this problem just start happening all of a sudden?

Awhile back if you pressed, Jaws key + Z, to toggle the virtual cursor on
and off, would sometimes fix this issue, & sometimes it took invoking the
keystroke more than once.

If you copy & paste the link into the Run dialogue & press enter will it
work then?

Also, is it possible that the links are sent in plain text? If so, then
pasting them into the Run dialogue should work. Or, you can try the
keystrokes below on the links.

To open links sent in plain text, try the following for Outlook Express.
#1. Place the cursor at the beginning of the link & invoke the keystroke,
Shift + Enter.

#2. Place the cursor at the beginning of the link & invoke the keystroke,
Alt, Shift, + H. Invoking this particular on a link somehow turns the
link
into an HTML link & now, just press enter.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Go into your Options in Outlook Express and make sure you have messages
set to be displayed in HTML, not plain-text.

Go to Options, Read tab, and make sure the box to read messages in
plain-text is not checked.

Check the security tab in tools, options,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Links don't work in OE

2017-10-09 Thread Scorpio

Yes, Andy, we do live in different times, more knowledgeable times.

If Yahoo hadn't made the mistake of telling us about web beacons, then
people would never have put two and two together, and gotten the reason for
people getting so much spam.

The fact is, you get those spam messages not because someone got a hold of
your e-mail address and decided to send you loads of e-mails on erectile
dysfunction, it's because a bot sent you and e-mail with a web beacon,
letting it know that the message was opened and read, letting it know that
it was an active e-mail address, so it could go ahead and spam the heck out
of it.

Andy, this is not something I just made up, it's been going on for quite
sometime, and while your anti-virus can pick up on malware, Trojans and
other harmful files, the fact is, it won't pick up on beacons your e-mail
contains.

Apple isn't coming out with so many updates for it's iOS because it wants to
make things easier for us, it's coming out with them for security sakes. A
hole here, and critical bug there, anti-virus is not the be all and end all
of security, and besides, you're forgetting one important thing, humans are
the worst offenders when it comes to opening up infected files and getting
more spam.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, anti-viruses have gotten more stronger
and ever more vigilant and aware, but in the end, they can't protect us from
everything, even ourselves.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Links don't work in OE

2017-10-09 Thread JM Casey
Hi.

Try steps described on one of these web pages.
https://www.lifewire.com/make-links-work-outlook-1173782
or:
http://www.dummies.com/computers/operating-systems/windows-xp-vista/how-to-r
epair-hyperlinks-in-outlook-express/

You said you were using Windows 7 and most of this stuff is for older
operating systems. But to be honest, so is Outlook Express. So if you read
through this you should be able to get some helpful answers.

If none of that stuff works, just copy the hyperlink and paste it in your
browser of choice.

Hi All,

I've had this problem for quite a while but have just gotten around to
posting about it.

Frequently when I get email from a company like Audible for example, and the
email contains links that are identified as graphic links by Jaws, I am
unable to activate the link no matter what I do. Enter does nothing, Jaws
cursor and left click does nothing. I know the links are good because I can
forward the email to my gmail account (accessed on the web) and activate
them there.

Is this an Outlook issue? A Jaws issue? Something up with my security
settings?

Can anyone give me a clue what might be going on here? And maybe how to fix
it?

Thanks for any thoughts.

How do you accomplish the cut and paste if the link doesn't appear as

can't be reached with the tab key either.

My annoyance is that some of these messages read the subject line and stop,

often it still is a blank message to Jaws! No one here to say if it

Rose,
When you open the message does it say something like, To protect your
privacy, Outlook has blocked some pictures from being downloaded. Click here
to download pictures?
This is what I get all the time and I am having the same troubles as you. No
matter what I do, it will not take me to the link, it will just stay where
it is or take me to the top of the page.
I have a sighted person here that I will send the email over to and she says
that I need to hit the display images at the top but with JAWS it doesn't
take me to a display images, it just starts the message if I go to the top.
I have been wondering how to overcome this for a while now.
If this is the same issue I hope someone can help the both of us.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Links not activating in Outlook 2013 messages

Kimber

I don't know the answer except that if I get the cursor on the link, using
the cursor keys on a braille display will open those links.
My annoyance is that some of these messages read the subject line and stop,
display, jaws virtual or review cursors say "blank" no matter what,
sometimes pressing escape and reopening the message works, however, more
often it still is a blank message to Jaws! No one here to say if it
disappears off the screen or not. I assume it has to be something in the
HTML code somewhere, but not a programmer, so not sure of that.

Tom,

I have found lately, that in Firefox, you must use the space bar instead of
the Enter key in order to activate links on certain web pages. This is
particularly true if there are a lot of form fields on the page where the
cursor keeps popping in and out of them.

A while ago there was a problem when Google Chrome was uninstalled. Some

Here is the link to the article

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310049

it appears that sometimes just using the reset function in Internet Explorer
resolves the problem. You go into the tools menu in Internet explorer into
Internet options, advance tab and do the reset button.

I am not at a system right now where I have the information about corrupt
registry entries. However, I am quite sure the article covers the method for
correcting the registry. It has to do with corrupt HTM and HTML entries.

If you don't get it resolved I will find information on it that I have on

[JAWS-Users] links on website not working

2013-12-08 Thread Becky Buckner
Hello.
Using Windows 7 and JAWS 15 with IE 11, I find that the links on some sites
will not work when I hit enter on them. I noticed this also with JFW 15 before
I went to IE 11.

One site I just experienced this with is

Anything I can change to get these links to work? Is this just an Internet
problem?

Thanks for any help.

Becky,

I couldn't get the links to work either, with the enter key.
However, if you press the application key and enter on open, whatever

Re: [JAWS-Users] links on website not working

2013-12-08 Thread John R Vaughn
Becky,
Since IE10 using Jaws14 and even Jaws 15 on windows 7 machines I, like
others, have seen this frustrating event of thinking you are activating a
link when you press enter on the link, only to have nothing happen.
Possible solutions are to press the application key while on the link and if
a choice is open or open in a new window, then try and activate the link
by pressing enter on the menu choice.
Other times, on some web sites, doing the above does not give you any
choices to activate the link, in which case I will bring up the list of
links with insert key plus F7 and try activating the link that way.
Sometimes, I find Shift plus enter key is needed to open the link.
On other web sites, sometimes having to route jaws to PC and activate the
jaws cursor with replication of the left click does the trick.

Just seems to be the vagaries of some web sites. But I am sure some more
sophisticated user on the list may have another explanation or suggestions.
I think some of us are also finding that to go back to the previous web
page can be problematic and require persistence in using the go back
command of alt left arrow.

2013-12-08 Thread Hans Pauli Sundstein

Hi.

I tryed to press the spacebar on the links, and they opened as wanted.

Some webpages are written to allow single mouseclick only, and when we press
the enter key, we are performing a double mouseclick, and therefor there is
beeing performed an activation and a canselation at the same time.

See if the spacebar dos'nt solve the problem.

Sometimes webpages are using mouseover links, whithout writing the links
correctly, and we therefor have to use the mouseover activation anyway, but
it is not the case in this situation.

 Hi all,
I have 14 and XP pro and Outlook Express.
I am not able to click on a link in e mails to send me to that
 particular link.
I also get a message saying no links found on the page.
Even though, When I hit insert F 7, I get a list of links.

Is there a setting I need to adjust?

 Thanks.

Rich, another possible solution to activating a link in an E mail and
Outlook express.
Instead of placing the cursor on the first letter of the link, move one more
character to the right and try entering or clicking on that character to
activate the link.
For some reason, some of us have had to do this to activate a link.
