I don't know who you got, nor do I know any of their names except a guy
named Dennis who has always been very helpful to me; but I've had an
encounter with a guy I'll call Mr. SnarkyPants. For what it's worth, I
use JAWS 15 with Firefox to shop on the regular Amazon site and I never
have any problems. I always found the access site too limiting.

playlist in new iTunes crashes

2015-07-28 Thread Robert Logue via Jfw
Jaws crashes and restarts then iTunes stops working when I focus on a
certain playlist. The list was in my iPhone till yesterday. Then I did
something to it that made it disappear from the phone. It still shows
up in iTunes. Just tried copying all the tracks to a new list and crash
again.

Have the latest ios and itunes.

I wonder. Do crash reports get sent to FS when Jaws crashes and restarts
or are we supposed to send a bug report?

at Freedom Scientific. I haven't been in touch with them for a year and a

the help I got that she didn't feel that she did. So I hope they will stay
that way, and that there hasn't been a change or reduction in work force
making it so hard for the ones there that they are frazzled.

Re: Calling All Script Writers

2015-07-28 Thread northstar1950--- via Jfw

actually, the line should look like this:

TypeKey (DownArrow, true)

Legend has it that on Monday 7/27/2015 09:51 PM, Ed Marquette via Jfw said:

About half the time, when I need a script, what I really need is a
macro.

I am stumped with the simplest problem.

I have an application which will work fine if only I pass the down
arrow through to the application, not permitting JAWS to process
it. I know this works because I've done it manually.

So, I want a simple script, which I've assigned to Windows down
arrow.

The first script command is the ByPass command, and I think that
works.

I'm then thinking I should send the TypeKey command followed with
the parameter (DownArrow).

So the line reads:

TypeKey (DownArrow)

Well, I get a compile error on the TypeKey command.

I think I am overlooking something pretty simple.

as the parameter.

a little out of touch. What are people using for torrenting these days? I
used to use UTorrent, but I've noticed the latest version has started to
hang my system a fair bit. I'm still using JAWS 14, so a client that works
best with that version would be appreciated - though if I need to, I can
always upgrade to 16. Thoughts and feedback would be awesome.

don't know if it works with other embossers, because it requires a fairly
high dot resolution. But, of interest for a blind person, is there is
additional drawing tablets that let blind people draw their own pictures. I
don't have the exact page at hand, but explore this page, and you might find
some helpful info here.

Subject: accessible design software

Hi.

Pasting an e-mail, from my lectuer.

Have to do use, case, state and other diagrams.

I am a blind it student, and this is a core subject.

Any ideas.

I use a screen reader jaws for windows from http://www.freedomscientific.com

Any ideas, any software, which will help.

Must be some software, that can design accessible diagrams.

Any ideas.

Marvin.

Marvin, that is a shame. I understand that diagrams are visual
representations, but to stop visually impaired from creating or using them
is not great.

There is a core Unit of Competency that is required to be completed for this
qualification. The important part of this unit is.

Elements and Performance Criteria

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate
achievement of the element.

1. Derive high-level design from specification

1.1 Develop static class diagram from given set of specifications

1.2 Develop either collaboration diagram or sequence diagram from given set
of specifications

1.3 Develop either activity diagram or state diagram from given set of
specifications

2. Refine design

2.1 Investigate and refine behaviour, state of classes and collaboration
between classes

2.2 Validate correct visibility of class services and state data

2.3 Identify generalisations within classes

2.4 Identify specialisations within classes

2.5 Apply principles of aggregation and composition to refine class design

3. Document design

3.1 Create detailed uniform modelling language (UML) static class diagrams

3.2 Create detailed UML collaboration or sequence diagrams

3.3 Create detailed UML activity or state diagrams

If you have any thoughts about how you could address these requirements? May
I suggest sending these requirements to some blind colleagues and see what
they might suggest.

Unfortunately, as this is a core unit of competence I am unable to change it
to another unit.

Let me know your thoughts.

Regards,

Subject: business needs assignment

Hi.

Well.

No accessible diagram software, so how do I do this assignment.

Unless, there are some more accessible ways to describe applications, or
processes, unless, iuse the entity designer in visual studio.

Any ideas.

Did ask a few blind tech people on a few tech lists, but no answers yet.

Marvin.

Re: Calling All Script Writers

2015-07-28 Thread northstar1950--- via Jfw

hmmm, you have two closing parenthises

Google Docs

2015-07-28 Thread Lee Anne Atkinson via Jfw
Good afternoon all,

I will be switching companies soon and much of their information is stored
in Google Docs. I have never used this before nor Gmail nor Google
Hangouts, so I am a complete newbie to this. Is it accessible to JAWS? I
am hesitant to dive in as I recall hearing less than stellar reviews on the
list in the past. Thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

RE: windows 10

2015-07-28 Thread Michael Mote via Jfw
Drew, it really depends on what you like to do when using your computer.
From all accounts, most of what we as screen reader users do with Windows 7
and 8.1, we should be able to do with Windows 10. The new Windows 10 has a
new web browser called the Edge, which may not deliver the best web
experience in the beginning. You can learn more about that by listening to
the Windows 10 discussion on Fs Cast EP 109. Glen Gordon was a guest on
that show, and he talks in depth about Windows 10. Also, from what he said
on the show, when you first install Windows 10, you won't have JAWS speech.
You will have to use narrator at first, and then once the set up wizzard has
finished, you can run JAWS and it will work, as long as you have the latest
build of JAWS 16. Magic users must be running version 13. I am a little
concerned about how frequently Microsoft plans to update this new version of
Windows. That was also discussed on the FS cast episode I referenced
earlier. I wonder how that will affect JAWS performance or any screen
reader or magnifier performance for that matter. Hope this helps!

If you have any SMA upgrades available to you, for example I have 1 SMA
upgrade left, which I'll use for Jaws 17. Then, after I use that upgrade
for J17, I'll buy the SMA's for J18 J19. When you buy the SMA's ahead of
time you get a discount, but you don't buy any SMA's until you are out of
SMA upgrades. So, after I buy the J18 / J19 SMA, I'll buy the SMA's for J20
 J21 after I use the J19 upgrade.

Take care.

RE: JAWS and Amazon

2015-07-28 Thread Adrian Spratt via Jfw
I think there are three parts to your post.

On the FS tech support person, I'd urge you to call back and run your questions
by someone else and/or demand to speak to a supervisor. I've had problems with
some FS people, but for the most part I find them professional.

On navigating the Amazon website to make purchases, etc., I find the regular
(as opposed to the so-called accessible) website quick and easy to use. From
time to time, when they make changes to the website, something goes haywire,
but Amazon's web designers mostly respond quickly to concerns I and others have
brought up with them. You could post specific questions here on this list, and
I think you'll find most will be answered.

The exception is your third point, the Amazon Music player. I don't use it
myself, but a friend who is an experienced and ingenious JAWS user who hates
iTunes is corresponding with Amazon in an attempt to get them to fix problems
with the music player. No good news there, at least for now.

I have a question: Why JAWS 15 and not the current version, 16?

Re: JAWS and Amazon

2015-07-28 Thread Dave Carlson via Jfw
Hello T Using,

I've actually never had any problems with JAWS Technical Support. All my
encounters have been courteous, and admittedly, when their only suggestion
was to run JAWS in default mode and/or delete all the user settings, I've
complained that it was an onerous thing to suggest, they still didn't treat
me in any way a demeaning manner.

Sometimes I've found that my personal attitude at the initial call has a lot
to do with how the responder reacts, and I try to have an open,
non-confrontational attitude at the first encounter -- after all even though
it's been brewing in my mind for several hours or days, it's a brand-new
situation for the tech support person.

As to Amazon, I find it pretty good to use with any version of JAWS in the
standard mode. Just use all the different navigational techniques until you
come up with a pattern that works for you. I use the navigational keys to
move around, and in my experience, there are a number of combo lists that
come up when you select different ship addresses, recipients, or payment
options. Shipping method tends to be radio buttons.

Also note that if you ;purchase more than one item, and if they are shipped
by different vendors, you will need to select shipping options for each one
separately, since they all have different shipping options.

I see that you're using JAWS 15, but I don't think that there are any
significant enhancements in JAWS 16 that would resolve your issues.

RE: reading objects

2015-07-28 Thread Adrian Spratt via Jfw
Kimsan,

In that case, the chances are that the object you clicked on is a graphic or
perhaps a photo.

I had to deal with an objects problem a while ago, but I don't remember the
details. Two points, just in case they help:

First, there is a setting in JAWS setting (insert-v) for hiding or not hiding
objects in Word documents. Mine is on, which probably means it's the default.

Second, I have a note to myself from long ago that a lister suggested pressing
insert-F1 to find out what's going on with an object. I'm afraid I can't test
this, as I normally try to do before posting, because I can't think of any Word
document I have right now that contains any objects.

Sorry if this is useless information.

After scanning the document, it brings it up in word, I see all the text on

objects but how do I read the content?I'm down arrowing and nothing is
said besides blank.

I'm using the 30 day abby fine reader btw.

Good afternoon all,

I will be switching companies soon and much of their information is stored

am hesitant to dive in as I recall hearing less than stellar reviews on the

HelloEd:
Try this line:
TypeKey (DownArrow)
This compiled for me.
You were missing the quotes around downarrow.

On 7/27/2015 10:51 PM, Ed Marquette via Jfw wrote:

About half the time, when I need a script, what I really need is a

I am stumped with the simplest problem.

I have an application which will work fine if only I pass the down

Control shift O then arrow through the list of objects and press enter to
select the one you want. If you need to know what the objects are, and are
unsuccessful with the methods the other listers have put forward, you can
insert alternative text identifying the object with the assistance of a
visually equipped person. When the object is selected, go to the context
menu, up arrow to format and tab to alternative text, and insert your
description. .

JAWS and Amazon

2015-07-28 Thread Tusing via Jfw
Hi,

Seldom if ever have I ever expressed any dissatisfaction with Freedom
Scientific.

I had been told to upgrade to JAWS 15 so finally I did it.

Well, with afriend watching my every move, I

Found it was very difficult to buy items on amazon.com/access,

Impossible to select a different gift recipientfrom a list of

People one lists for shipping, and impossible to change shipping options.

I was using the latest Firefox with JAWS 15.

I called Freedom Scientificand explained this. I was told sarcastically to
go buy a new version of JAWS which I frankly thought was totally out of
line-since F S had been tauting the virtues of JAWS 15 for sometime!

Thinking some one cared, I mentioned that JAWS does not work with the
Amazon music player-very useful for playing musicand

Downloading music.

Would you believe I was corrected in a short manner as the speaker from F
S quipped why would any one

Even want to use the music player.

Why would any one asksuch astupidquestion?

I guess we should be permitted to use some key Amazon features and not
others.

He criticized me for using JAWS 15-which was what F S had been
recommending all along.

Great sarcastic moral support.

So I ask this.

Are people shopping using JAWS 15 and latest Firefox on Amazon.com/access?

I have watched friends use the Amazon music player and it has a lot of
good features. But F S I guess would

Dole outaccessibilityand maybe permit us to use it 3 versions from now. The
sarcasm

Called support hit hardas I spent a lot of time

Trying to use the Amazon site and the player.

Also F S support had told me that JAWS 15 worked with both.

Thank you and have a good day.

just acts like the web page is blank. Help, please and Thank you.

I know some of you have tested windows 10 and am wondering if you could give
me a quick overview of the new features and if it is worth upgrading right
away. I guess it is scheduled to be released tomorrow. thanks!

Try this.

Control-shift-o creates a JAWS list of the objects. Pressing enter on an
item in the list takes you to it.

I'm testing a scanning software, so my question is this.

After scanning the document, it brings it up in word, I see all the text

the

objects but how do I read the content?I'm down arrowing and nothing is
said besides blank.

I'm using the 30 day abby fine reader btw.

Thank you.

Re: Calling All Script Writers

2015-07-28 Thread Soronel Haetir via Jfw
Also, if all you want to do is pass a key through you can simply
assign the PassKeyThrough script to the key in the .jkm for the
application. I'm not aware of a way to use the key manager to
accomplish that but it's not a hard thing to do.

I use the script editor, open the .jkm in question then add a line like:

Alt+DownArrow=PassKeyThrough

Thanks!

disappear from the screen. I would appreciate any input on why I get
this message. The PDF document never opens up in adobe reader, but I
get this message. Thank you so much for your help.

RE: reading objects

2015-07-28 Thread Adrian Spratt via Jfw
It might do something if the object is susceptible of OCR. It would be worth
trying for each object in a document that isn't otherwise identifiable. I think
Ann's suggestion for objects that don't contain standard text is creative. The
next step would be Kevin's which is equally creative.
