Fatihcan,

your PDF shows up in LyX as you expect as a preview on the canvas. This
is with LyX 2.4.0~RC4 with TeXLive 2024 on Ubuntu 22.04.4

PDF preview works for you apart from this file?

Problem with displaying ipe-generated pdf in LyX

2024-05-19 Thread fcanatay
Greetings,

I am having problems working with pdf files generated by the drawing program
ipe in LyX. (These are hybrid pdf that contain embedded code so that they can
be re-edited.) When I insert such a pdf in LyX it doesn’t show up in the work
area at all except for a blank space, although the file compiles and previews
without problems. I have attached a small test pdf (a simple circle), which is
displayed fine in every pdf previewer and browser I tried, except in LyX. I
wonder if my setup is the culprit here (LyX 2.4.0~RC4 & Texlive Basic & Mac
apple silicon). Could anyone confirm that this pdf is correctly displayed in
their LyX window?

Cheers,

Fatihcan Atay

RE: Problematik: fehlender Eintrag \begin{document} stört output der Datei als Pdf

2024-02-19 Thread Kees Zeelenberg
With several letter classes this error message may indicate that a required
field, e.g. the sender's name, is missing or that fields are in the wrong
order. Another error message in such cases is "No line to end here". Some
letter classes are very particular about these required fields.
Probably the best way is to start from a template. In LyX, you may do this from
File / New from template ... / Letters / Koma Script Letter. The template with
the default values compiles successfully to pdf, with LyX-2.4.0-RC3 under
Windows.
Also, you might want to take a look at
https://wiki.lyx.org/Examples/KomaLetter2, where you will find several LyX
templates for the Koma letter class.

DIN Brief and KOMA-Script Letter are exclusive.

Use one or the other, Lyx offers KOMA-Script Letter (V.2) which I have
been using for many years.

You will also reach more people by posting in the ENglish languag into
an English language forum.

Poor PDF preview quality - LyX 2.4.0, Release Candidate 1

2024-01-22 Thread didiergabory
Hi,

Compared to version 2.3.7 and from the default settings the difference is
obvious.
The PDF (graphic) option is set to pdfview... But by changing the parameters
(custom, default system...) It's still just as ugly... On the other hand, the
pdflatex export is very good.

This is an installation under Windows 10.

Do you have an idea?

Here's the top of the preamble in a KOMA-Script report I revised a couple of
weeks ago:

%% LyX 2.3.6.1 created this file. For more info, see http://www.lyx.org/.
%% Do not edit unless you really know what you are doing.
\documentclass[twoside,headsepline=on, footsepline=on]{scrreprt}

\setlength{\parskip}{\medskipamount}
\setlength{\parindent}{0pt}
\usepackage{array}
\usepackage{textcomp}
\usepackage{url}
\usepackage{pdfpages}
\usepackage{graphicx}

Why the new doc uses latin9 rather than utf8 is the issue.

These are what's in Documents -> Settings -> Preamble:

Well, it's not in Documents -> Settings -> Preamble and I had no reason add

It was a wrong font encoding° LyX inserts
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}

unknown commands and no bibliography.

I don't use lualatex; only pdflatex. Somehow lyx inserted those two packages

Rich,
that should be ok, but LyX used

\usepackage[latin9]{luainputenc}

which is for years deprecated. You can still use palatino with
\usepackage{mathpazo}
in the documents preamble and leave all entries in the fonts
settings for standard with enabled "no TeX fonts"

I can't understand why you want Inkscape in the equation at all. Your
best data is in your LyX/Beamer file(s), so why not just use that for
whatever you want?

The SVG standard has no provision for multiple pages. Inkscape has
added XML elements to simulate multiple pages, but it's pretty
squirelly. Please understand I'm a huge fan of Inkscape, recommending
it over LyX for flyers and the like. All the graphics on
Troubleshooters.Com and in my books for the last 10 years were made
with Inkscape. But Inkscape isn't the right tool to manipulate long
text documents. LyX is. LaTeX is. Plain TeX is. Docbook is. But not
Inkscape.

Forgetting what technology is to be used, what is it you want to
accomplish?

The other problems doing that way are:
1) The color are not maintained (cf. yellow turned to black)
2) The name of the layers is not properly set: this can be fixed my renaming

I can use the option all,
but this is a bit strange.
I must get each slide associated with a pages (with the right page number)
but I get no page numbering.

The right behavior is obtained with a direct opening (inkscape file.pdf) when
the pdf file is "correct".

pdf to inkscape

2023-08-27 Thread Patrick Dupre
Hello,

4 years, I generated pdf files (from beamer/lyx), and I can
import them to inkscape, just by doing
inkscape foo.pdf
Now, I recompile the same lyx files and I generated the pdf file,
but I cannot use anymore inkscape.
I get

unhandled exception (type std::exception) in signal handler:
what: input string not valid UTF-8

I am not sure that it is related to lyx.

Some ideas?

Thanks

file directly (which pdf reader? Okular? I use Debian.).

The reason is, that I would like to send the document to a coauthor for
question, for which I should tell him where to look at.

Adding index to ToC and complied PDF

texindy built the index when run from the command line. In the KOMA-Script
book class document in Settings I set the Index Generator processor to
texindy and the option to idxtotoc. In Settings -> Document Class I set
Class Options -> Custom to idxtotoc as shown in the Wiki.

The index does not appear in the ToC or following the Bibliography. What

Re: Table of contents and links in pdf

2022-08-31 Thread Udicoudco
Hello Dan,

To use hyperlinks in lyx you should assure that you use hyperref support.
To do so go to Document->Settings->PDF Properties and check the box named
"Use Hyperref Support", this will automatically create links in the table
of contents.

For more information about customizing the appearance of the links you
should read section 6.9 of LyX's user guide, which can be found in
Help->User's Guide.

Hello.

There is much quicker way to find names of the commands than to search
the documentation. You can open Messages pane (View – Messages pane) and
do whatever action you want. The name of the command of that action will
be written in the pane and after that you can create shortcut for it. It
is my usual way in creating shortcuts.

You can bind a key combo to "buffer-update pdf7". If you want another
shortcut for generating the initial cropped PDF file, bind that one to
"buffer-view pdf7". If that doesn't work, go to Tools > Preferences... >

Use custom and fill the box with the path to your favourite pdf
viewer.  You may not need the full path, if your pdf-viewer is
directly accessible.

Select

We had done quite massive and thus sensitive changes/improvements to

Thanks for working on this, Jürgen.

I'm not sure (I did not do a bisect) but I think the recent commits
broke some ctests. Attached is an example document that fails on
current master that used to pass.

With unicode encoding in Document > Settings > Language, pdflatex
compilation succeeds, but it fails when changing to some custom
encodings. As for why we test that this Hebrew document compiles with
encoding "Chinese (simplified) (EUC-CN)", I have no idea.

At this point, having a document that triggers the issue would be
very useful. Then I am sure that Jürgen or Enrico will be able to

Yes. Wolfgang, if you cannot share your document, you can make a copy
of it and anonymize that via buffer-anonymize (in the minibuffer, i.e.
after Alt-X). This function replaces all characters in your document
with an "a". This will do for us ti debug.

My Mail to Jean-Marc Lasgouttes:
Hi, JMarc,
I thought to send this to you directly.
I have the English version of a book translated in German, and used the
same template as the English one, except of course the German Language
selection.
It is unfortunately quite long (1.4 MB) and I am not sure whether I
should fiddle around with it to shorten it. I also do not know whether
the graphics and bibliography is needed. If so, I could send you an
.arch.gz file.

But we check before all uses of popLanguageName() that
lang_switch_depth_ (which is the stack at stake here) is non-empty
via langOpenedAtThisLevel(). So from the code, I don't see why that can
happen.

Yes. Wolfgang, if you cannot share your document, you can make a copy
of it and anonymize that via buffer-anonymize (in the minibuffer, i.e.
after Alt-X). This function replaces all characters in your document
with an "a". This will do for us ti debug.

Wolfgang, could you share the document that causes issues (at least
privately)?

The assertion above (I ignore the QXcbConnection stuff for now) means
that stack::pop() is called on a stack which is already empty (this
methods removes one object from a stack).

In our code, there are two places where such a stack is used:
output_latex.cpp (LaTeX output) and output_xhtml.cpp (HTML output).

Since your document is exported to late for LuaLaTeX, it has to be the
former.

The place where this pop() method is used (popLanguageName) is related
to our use of nested languages. And indeed, it does not check that some
language has been saved before pop-ing it.

At this point, having a document that triggers the issue would be very
useful. Then I am sure that Jürgen or Enrico will be able to take over.

Yes probably.

What should I do?

From the build directory (tip: you can run LyX from there without
installing):

1/ make sure that you have pulled the latest changes from git and built them
2/ run "gdb src/lyx"
3/ when you see the "(gdb)" prompt, type the following commands
catch throw
run
[do the crashing thing]
bt
4/ send the output of the bt command

f you have issues with thunderbird, try to close it before debugging.

p.s. if I compile lyx again, should I use
./configure --enable-debug
since I am not familiar with gdb?

Usually this type of discussion are more appropriate in lyx-devel mailing
list.

Indeed. But encouraging users to use latest version is good.

But I am not sure that this particular instance is encouraging :)

With that said if you use --enable-debug use also --enable-stdlib-debug that
it will help as well.

These are on by default with development builds.

Compile the 2.4 anew (in case it has changed in the meantime)?

This error does not happen with other lyx documents which I tried

Heureka!

How stupid I missed it. Adding the key solved things, and now the pdf of
the book to which the bibliography belongs is also outputted.

Would be nice to know how one could find out from the log file whats wrong.

Hi,
Without an example file it is a bit hard to tell what kind of coloring
you refer to. But I am guessing that you have already set the options
"No frames around links" and "Color links" (Document > Settings... > PDF
Properties). In that case you can add to the "Additional Options" (same
place): linkcolor=black. Note that this will only change the color not
the functionality.

Best,
Daniel
