all footnotes at end of book

2005-11-04 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann
I posted already a similar question;
however, is there an easy way to collect ALL footnotes throughout the book at
the END of the book without doing anything tho the footnotes themselves (i.e.
something in the preamble)?

 If not, I get:

 Thanks for the info.

I have scrbook (koma-script) from teTeX-texmf-3.0, but don't see it.

What about ctr carriage return (a red carriage return sign occurs afterward)

headings in koma script

2005-11-24 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann
I am trying in koma book to avoid headers (headings) in preface and

In Koma it is not recommended, to change the type-area,

Specifically:
17mm on top, 28 on bottom (that is, bottom NOT 2* top!)

We tried (unsuccessfully) the workaround

keyboard customization

2005-12-09 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann
Is there an easy description of keyboard customization for lyx around
(customization 4.4 ff is beyond me)?

I tried to use my € sign, which is on the keyboard and works with a normal
editor, but not in lyx (nothing is printed if the key is pressed).
I tried to set it somehow via preferences-view-keyboard-enter keyboard table
first-check- choose keyboard table
where I can choose between european.kmap, german.kmap, german-2.kmap...
but after having tried this I messed up the keystrokes so that e.g. I had to
press twice the dot in order to get it on the screen.

It is too confusing for me and I would appreciate a hint

downloaded it from CTAN site
unpacked distrib.zip in ~/texmf
where it gives me

copied powerdot.layout to ~/.lyx/layouts

did texhash,
lyx reconfigure
and started lyx anew.

in the newly started lyx I choose
formatdocumentdocumentclass
and find
unavailable: powerdot presentation

what did I wrong?

I am using lyx 1.3.4

jabref again

2006-01-26 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann
Here is another jabref related question.
The output of the article style in the References section
does not give me Capitals in the titel, except the first one. However, in
German references this is not tolerable. I am sure there is a way round in
jabref, but I dont know how to do that. Of course I could use {B} etc in the
text for it, but I imported much literature of my bib file from another
program and would try to avoid doing it by hand.

Some .bst styles require additional packages in the document preamble. In
 this case, add

how to get rid of empty page

2006-02-07 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann
Hi there,

I use Koma script book style and want to get rid of an empty page which is put
between my two column part and one column part

two column part

 * here is end of a list

In the following slides are shown:

(now I have to switch to onecolumn-style, since the slide show is in a table
which spans the whole page, therefore:)

\onecolumn

2.2.2slides
 Helfrich-Förstercha:Diafolge-des-Vortrags
..
\twocolumn

between the twocolumn text and the onecolumn text there is a whole page
without text (just a header) which I don´t like. How do I get rid of it?

Note: Besides twocolumn I use a twosided document, which might (also?) be
responsible for this empty page.

What do you want to achieve? If you only want to switch between

at the multicol documentation (texdoc multicol on unix).

and am I than back again in twocolums?

its takes ages until I am through. So if you could just give me a hint for

Rich,
as I said: I have twocolumn throughout, except for a few pages.

The reason, I can´t do it with the normal twosided selection in the

here should come a onecolumn-part
\begin{multicols}

and here twocolumn again
x xxx
x xxx
x xxx
x xxx

LaTeX Error: \begin{document} ended by \end{multicols}.
 \end{multicols}
Your command was ignored.
Type I command return to replace it with another command,
or return to continue without it.

If I use \begin{multicols}{1}
I get no error, but the onecolumn part is put in the
right column of my basic setting twocolumn in documentpage

According to Herbert, multicol is a separate prg and has nothing to do
with the twocolumn setting.

Where is my mental blackout?

A demo is always nice if you can arrange it. Rehearse it well.
Don't cram too much into a small slot of time though, if you want

 you prepared in advance.

For instance, if you use a letter template and show the result of the export.
I found this to be impressive, because it is so quickly done and

  Wolfgang

The .dbj file is a batch job that is run to generate the .bst file. If
you edit the .dbj file directly, just run tex against it to get the new
 .bst file.

 /Paul

Thanks, now I understood. But the dbj file is confusing for the unexperienced.
For instance, where is the line which selects for article

Title. Journal
I have now
Title Journal (without .)

Same with book

or for incollection:
In: editors (capital and :)
instead of

Just found the answer in Kopka´s Latex:

note, that the number has to be 8, if the following chapter should be 9!

citations and references

2006-07-27 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann
I had much help by this list recently by trying to get familiar with makebst
to meet the requests of the publisher for citing references and the
bibliography. However, I still have a few problems. Perhaps somebody who is
experienced can help me.

I have produced with latex makebst a we.bst and we.dbj file and put it in
~/PP-buch/Bibtex-style
afterward texhash (necessary?)
and selected we (.bst, not included) in the Bibtex-references popup at the end
of my lyx document (koma-script book style).

There were, however, some mistakes I made and I tried to correct them by
changing the we.dbj file (which should later be converted to we.bst by
running lated we.dbj).

MY QUESTION: In the dbj file the different decisions are given as e.g.:

%STYLE OF CITATIONS:
% %: (def) Numerical as in standard LaTeX
  ,ay%: Author-year with some non-standard interface
% ,alph%: Alpha style, Jon90 or JWB90 for single or multiple authors
% ,alph,alf-1%: Alpha style, Jon90 even for multiple authors
% ,alph,alf-f%: Alpha style, Jones90 (full name of first author)
% ,cite%: Cite key (special for listing contents of bib file)
%--\ans=a(==ay)---

I guess, I have to add % in
% ,ay%: Author-year with some non-standard interface
and remove the first % in the line above if I want the (def) version
%: (def) Numerical as in standard LaTeX
is this correct and does the second % in this line stay?

Where do I have to make a change in order to get
 (Miller 2001)

As I have it now it is
 (Miller (2001))

whereas cited by Miller (2001) is correct.

Can I do this from outside the bst file and if not, where in the dbj would be
the place for the change? makebst is a nive tool, but for the unexperienced
partly not easy to understand.

Unfortunately, my contribution is due soon.
Thanks for help:

Wolfgang

a ps:
The problem with the replace is, that it does not differentiate between

the replacement gives

apparently latex decides by the parantheses which one is used.

So, some global way (\bibpunct?) would be better. Which one?

\bibpunct does not differentiate between the brackets around the year and
those around the whole citation. So you have to use two different cite
styles, or add the brackets manually.

so far I have imported the bib file via jabref. But if I click on the
particular citation box which should give

there are not many cases where this is needed, it is easily done. Should have

Re: user interface study of lyx

In preparation for the class, I plan to post a separate
questionnaire to the lyx-users and lyx-devel lists.

I welcome any comments about this. Again, my intent is to
have this be a contribution to the lyx project.

I am currently working with a colleague on a book chapter using lyx, me on
linux platform, he on microsoft. There are some problems on his side (e.g.
exporting to pdf) with which I can´t help him.

I think, it would be very helpful in such and similar cases to have a linux
livesystem on CD which contains all the necessary programs needed for writing
documents with lyx such as tex stuff, spellchecker, vector and pixel oriented
graphics (xfig, PyX, PStricks..), chemical formulas, bibtex related things
such as JabRef or Pybliographer, presentations (beamer..). There is a nice
book by Rainer Hattenhauer (2005), Linux-Livesysteme (published by Galileo
Computing) - alas in German (perhaps translated in the meantime?) which gives
detailed instructions and could serve as a basis.

One could just insert this CD in the computer, start the system, work with it,
save the produced documents on the computer, and thats it. I think this would
be a nice project also for your students ...

jabref and lyx

2006-09-07 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann
sorry for a slightly off-topic question:
I am using jabref for entering references in my lyx file.
Some of the author entrances in the bib-file are embraced by {author} and
listed separately from the non-embraced author entrances, which I do not
want. example:
author1
author3
author4
{author2}
{author5}
{author6}
what I want:
author1
{author2}
author3
author4
{author5}
{author6}

I would like to either have the embraced entrances treated equally to the
unembraced ones or to remove in an easy way all the {} -signes. Can this be
done in JabRef? I did not find an answer in the JabRef 1.8.1 Handbook of

index issue

2007-11-03 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann

If I index two (or more) words following each other, I usually mark them and
select 'index entry' (german: Stichwort). To make the word(s) appear
emphasized in the index, I use @\emph{xx} as shown below in the example (as
Liviu told me, thanks again).
If this is done with word(s) which is (are) already emphasized I get a double
entry of the words in the index, e.g.

Oxalis, 62
Oxalis, 71
where both are correctly emphasized.
It should, however, show
Oxalis, 62,71

I traced the tex output and found this:

\section{Mouvement foliaire de \emph{Oxalis regnellii}}

[EMAIL PROTECTED] montrer les mouvements foliaires

So apparently the whole index-item-box was emphasized (first \emph) in
addition to the emphasized word. My solution was, to mark in Lyx my
'index entry' (Stichwort)-box and use ctr e (for the emphasis on/off
switch).

Since it took me some time to find out I thougth to report it here.
I wonder whether this is a bug in Lyx.

2007-12-11 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann
in my index the page numbers of some of the same entrances are not shown
behind each other. They belong to cases where emphasis is desired, e.g.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] on page 33
and
[EMAIL PROTECTED] on page 42
leads to
Lolium, 42
Lolium, 33
instead of
Lolium, 33,42
I have also exported the tex file from the Lyx file and run latex several
times with the hope, that the index file will be correct in this way, but in
vain.
Strangely, there are other plant names which occur twice on different pages
and they are displayed correctly. In these cases the earlier pages are
displayed first, as they should (and not
Lolium, 42
Lolium, 33
as in the given example.
Has somebody an idea whats going wrong?
Wolfgang

I forgot to mention, that I (still) use Version 1.4.3. Perhaps I should
update, if the new versions do not show this behaviour.
