I posted already a similar question; however, is there an easy way to collect ALL footnotes throughout the book at the END of the book without doing anything tho the footnotes themselves (i.e. something in the preamble)? Wolfgang

keyboard customization
Is there an easy description of keyboard customization for lyx around (customization 4.4 ff is beyond me)? I tried to use my € sign, which is on the keyboard and works with a normal editor, but not in lyx (nothing is printed if the key is pressed). I tried to set it somehow via preferences-view-keyboard-enter keyboard table first-check- choose keyboard table where I can choose between european.kmap, german.kmap, german-2.kmap... but after having tried this I messed up the keystrokes so that e.g. I had to press twice the dot in order to get it on the screen. Where do I have to make a change in order to get (Miller 2001) As I have it now it is (Miller (2001)) whereas cited by Miller (2001) is correct. There is a nice book by Rainer Hattenhauer (2005), Linux-Livesysteme (published by Galileo Computing) - alas in German (perhaps translated in the meantime?) which gives detailed instructions and could serve as a basis. One could just insert this CD in the computer, start the system, work with it, save the produced documents on the computer, and thats it. I think this would be a nice project also for your students ... Wolfgang

jabref and lyx
sorry for a slightly off-topic question: I am using jabref for entering references in my lyx file. Some of the author entrances in the bib-file are embraced by {author} and listed separately from the non-embraced author entrances, which I do not want. example: author1 author3 author4 {author2} {author5} {author6} what I want: author1 {author2} author3 author4 {author5} {author6} I would like to either have the embraced entrances treated equally to the unembraced ones or to remove in an easy way all the {} -signes. Can this be done in JabRef? I did not find an answer in the JabRef 1.8.1 Handbook of Wassenhoven. I tried to register at http://www.openusability.org/account/register.php but my EMail address is refused there respectively my password entered is not accepted. Has anyone an answer or was able to register successfully? Wolfgang

Re: jabref and lyx
Quoting Dominik Waßenhoven [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I just looked into it again. If you don't need the double braces, JabRef offers an option to automatically remove them when you load a file. In German it's Optionen - Einstellungen - Beim Laden doppelte geschweifte Klammern um BibTeX-Felder entfernen. If you activate this option, load your .bib file, and save it, the double brackets should have gone. HTH, Dominik.- Thanks, Dominik, Thats it. I should have checked the options more carefully. Re: Historical question
Oh, no, I don't still use that version. But I got more involved after I found the program (who here remembers when Matthias called it LyriX?) I think he called it first Lynx - which was already used... Wolfgang The name was changed because someone contacted Matthias threatening to sue, that name having been taken for a word processor of some sort.

french use of : ; etc
Could one of the French people of this list tell me whether it is practice in French to leave space before ?, !, :, ; such as: chaque jour à une heure du matin ? instead of chaque jour à une heure du matin? and Ordonnées : nombre moyen de fleurs par plante (10 plantes par valeur) ; abscisses : longueur de la période sombre en heures instead of Ordonnées: nombre moyen de fleurs par plante (10 plantes par valeur); abscisses: longueur de la période sombre en heures Wolfgang
LANG=fr
How do I set the french LANG for starting lyx? if I try LANG=fr_FR;lyx I get: OkApplyCancelReadOnlyPolicy: No transition for input SMI_OKAY from state INITIAL perl: warning: Setting locale failed. perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings: LANGUAGE = , LC_ALL = (unset), LANG = fr_FR are supported and installed on your system. perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale (C). perl: warning: Setting locale failed. can´t send mail to the list
I can´t send mail from my normal account to the list. Same via my university account. Only webmail uni-tuebingen works. I can live with it, but it is time consuming to switch to webmail (but probably time-saving for those kind people who answer my trivial questions). I noticed others (e.g. Steve) have a similar problem. Wolfgang This is the message I get: Your message could not be delivered for 24 hour(s). It will be retried until it is 4 day(s) old. index issue
If I index two (or more) words following each other, I usually mark them and select 'index entry' (german: Stichwort). To make the word(s) appear emphasized in the index, I use @\emph{xx} as shown below in the example (as Liviu told me, thanks again). If this is done with word(s) which is (are) already emphasized I get a double entry of the words in the index, e.g. Oxalis, 62 Oxalis, 71 where both are correctly emphasized. It should, however, show Oxalis, 62,71 I traced the tex output and found this: \section{Mouvement foliaire de \emph{Oxalis regnellii}} [EMAIL PROTECTED] montrer les mouvements foliaires So apparently the whole index-item-box was emphasized (first \emph) in addition to the emphasized word. My solution was, to mark in Lyx my 'index entry' (Stichwort)-box and use ctr e (for the emphasis on/off switch). Since it took me some time to find out I thougth to report it here. I wonder whether this is a bug in Lyx. Wolfgang

Bib questions
How can I change the citations from W.Engelmann to Engelmann, W. in the bibliography? I am using Koma book and natbib author-year, abbrvnat as the style. Furthermore, how is the citation style changed from Engelmann, W and Mayer, A. to Engelmann, W und Mayer, A. (it is a German book) Wolfgang
index
in my index the page numbers of some of the same entrances are not shown behind each other. They belong to cases where emphasis is desired, e.g. [EMAIL PROTECTED] on page 33 and [EMAIL PROTECTED] on page 42 leads to Lolium, 42 Lolium, 33 instead of Lolium, 33,42 I have also exported the tex file from the Lyx file and run latex several times with the hope, that the index file will be correct in this way, but in vain. Strangely, there are other plant names which occur twice on different pages and they are displayed correctly. In these cases the earlier pages are displayed first, as they should (and not Lolium, 42 Lolium, 33 as in the given example. Has somebody an idea whats going wrong? Wolfgang
