For the no VoiceOver, you can use computer speakers.

Sorry to hear about your ear problem, not sure if bluetooth would help with the
issue but would think any speakers that you plug in through the 3.5 jack would
work if the volume goes all the way down again, and a lot of bluetooth speakers
today also come with the option to connect via the 3.5 jack. Good luck

Dropbox on iPad Mini

2014-09-15 Thread Eleanor Martha Burke
Hi All, I think the dropbox app has recently been updated. I used to be
able to have the full page open but now there is this left sidebar which is
giving information about other files in Dropbox. I have tried tapping on
the actions button on the bottom right to see if I can get full page but I
only get an option for thumbnails of all the pages in the article. Any
ideas how I can remove this left side bar. Apologies if sidebar is not the
correct term for it. Interestingly this is not an issue on the iPod Touch or
on the iPhone.

question on account settings in iPad Mini

2014-03-26 Thread meadowlark77
Hello y'all,

Last night, I sent a text to someone and it came back saying it had
failed but no reason was given for the failure. It makes me think I don't
ahve something set right in the iPad Mini.

My iPad mini can go on both cellular and wifi. I guess what my question
is, is this. When I set it to where the messages come from, do I set it to
my cellular number, or do I setit to an E-Mail account, such as gmail?
Unfortunately, it had defaulted to my iCloud account settings and that might
be why the message didn't go anywhere. What do I do here? When I set up my
friend's iPod, there was only one solution so I set it that way, but in my
case, how do I set this?

Thanks in advance,

Brenda

Okay, that's what I did and I was getting a weird thing of not being able to

Verizon assigned it a different number and when I asked what that was,
they said it was only the number tha they assigned to the network, but when
Iuse my own number to send from, evidently, it is not working.

I don't think iDevices synch with each other, at least I have never heard
 of
this. They synch with iTunes. You have to normally set up synch

You can of course make the preferences identical.

You can do this by going to settings, and iCloud.

Hello Brenda. With Voice dream from what I know you don’t sink books that are
in the library. You can open books in there using the services that it allows
you like drop box or Book share i think. There are others. There may be other
settings it keeps the same. You can purchase voices which then can be
downloaded on other devices with no extra charges due to the fact that they
were purchased with your apple ID. I know of no other purchases like books that
you can make with it. I hope this helps.

You will need to restore it using iTunes, or from settings, general, reset,
erase and reset, and when that is done and you are setting up the iPad by hand
choose ro restore from an iCloud back up on the iPad itself do not use iTunes.
Oh and make sure all iCloud settings you want enabled on the iPhone are
actually enabled and that iCloud is actually turned on on your iPhone too.
You can do this by going to settings, and iCloud.

Re: trying to sync with my iPhone on my new iPad Mini

2014-03-14 Thread meadowlark77
Well, this is interesting. I thought about doing that, too, but kept
insisting this should and could be done. Finally I did get the job done,
but--I could not get my folders that I made over there, so I decided that I
guess I'd have to forget that notion. They say thereis a way, but I couldn't
do it, simply because my screen reader does not seem to have access to where
they say we need to go. That part will be off topic here, so won't belabor
the point. At any rate, I got it to where all I had to do was to redownload
the voices. Seemed the last step I took, put the iPad in sync with my phone
enough, that it saw the purchases and let me know, but still had to
reinstall that. Some of the log ins for radio apps needed to be put back and
so on. I kept getting asked when the phone would come back on, if I had
given the iPad permission to access certain things such as iCloud and stuff
like that. So, yeah, I got something that I can work with at this point now.

Thanks,

Brenda

Okay, I actually had to redownload the Voice Dream. I didn't have to pay for
that again, but it's extra voices that I have, those purchases did not get
transferred, so every time I look at a voice, it says it's price and to buy
it. What do I do now?

Hello Brenda. With Voice dream from what I know you don’t sink books that
are in the library. You can open books in there using the services that it
allows you like drop box or Book share i think. There are others. There may
be other settings it keeps the same. You can purchase voices which then can
be downloaded on other devices with no extra charges due to the fact that
they were purchased with your apple ID. I know of no other purchases like
books that you can make with it. I hope this helps.

Re: can't move apps into folders on an iPad Mini

2014-02-27 Thread Matthew Carello
Hello Aleeha. When 2apps are on top of each other or 1 is on top of a folder it
should say so. Hold your finger there for about 2 to 3 seconds then very very
slightly slide your finger left. It should say opening. At this point let go
and it should go into the folder. you may have to do it more than once until
you get the hang of it. I hope this helps.

can't move apps into folders on an iPad Mini

2014-02-26 Thread Aleeha Dudley
Hey All,
Just a friendly lurker with a question. I have an iPad Mini 32
GB, no retina, no 3G. I cannot move apps into folders on the device at
all. I can with VO off, but not with it on. I am running the latest
iOS and a restore does no good. I hear VO say moving (app name.) I
don't hear any notifications that I am on a given folder or app. I can
drag all I want to, but it does not tell me where I am, other than to
say the row and column number.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Aleeha

Ipad Mini - Editing/Deleting E-mails

Is an iPad Mini / air a feasible netbook replacement?

2014-01-24 Thread David Griffith
My XP Notebook has done sterling service for me over the years but is
getting on its last legs.

The logical replacement would appear to be an iPad but I am not sure it will
be up to the job.

For example last week I had to chair a meeting.

I needed 5 documents open for rapid reference.
That is an agenda , minutes of last meeting, action sheet, staff handbook
and budget spreadsheet.
I am prepared to work around the clunky nature of Numbers by saving
spreadsheets as html as I will not be actually editing them. I do this even
on a windows platform sometimes .

However using pages on my iPhone I cannot currently see any quick way of
having multiple Word documents open and switching between them for
reference. Obviously if I am chairing meetings it is unacceptable to have to
constantly load and reload documents and expect everybody to wait whilst I
re-find the place I need.
Does anybody know how this could be done or alternatively another solution?

The question is would an iPad with VO be a serious replacement for a Netbook
with Office?

Regards

David Griffith

Hi David,

I basically asked a similar question recently with iText Express. The only way
I could skin the cat was to open the window chooser. It's not very efficient
and there are still functions in MS Word that beats any of the Mac word
processing solutions. JMO. I know others may contest that, but I am still
attempting to totally convert to the OS Mac platform.

Best,

Re: Is an iPad Mini / air a feasible netbook replacement?

2014-01-24 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello David,

I’m sure that an iPad is not a good replacement for a netbook, but a MacBook
Air would definitely work for you. You can quickly switch between open
documents in Pages using Cmd-Accent sign which on a British keyboard is to the
left of z.

The smallest MacBook Air is the 11-inch model and it is very light to carry
around. If you do get a MacBook Air, make sure to get 8 gb of RAM.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Is an iPad Mini / air a feasible netbook replacement?

2014-01-24 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi David,
Have you used Numbers recently? I'm really impressed with the latest version of
Numbers. I have always been a big fan of Microsoft Excel and kept a Windows
computer around for a while after getting my Mac mainly to use Excel. However,
now I prefer Numbers. You might need to play with it a little to learn how it
works, but once you do I reckon you to will prefer it and no longer need to
view spreadsheets as HTML. Also, Numbers works really well on the iPad—in many
ways better then the Mac, at least for using spreadsheets rather than creating
them.
Having said that, I agree with Anne. An iPad would be a great supplement to a
netbook, but for your needs I don't think it would completely replace it for
the reasons you've mentioned. The iPad is fine to use when you have a bit of
time to play with, but in a meeting when there's a lot going on I think you'd
prefer the comfort of a computer you're familiar with and a keyboard. I
certainly won't be giving up my Mac for many years to come, if ever.
Best,
Nic

Re: Is an iPad Mini / air a feasible netbook replacement?

2014-01-24 Thread Nicholas Parsons
P.S. I love my MacBook Air. I've almost gotten to the point of being completely
Windows free now. I only really use Windows for track changes, but hopefully
soon I won't even need it for that.
I'm not sure if you've used a Mac before—I assume you have seeing as you're on
this list. If so, then I need say no more—a MacBook Air would be fantastic for
meetings. However, if you haven't, then just be warned that you will need to
dedicate a lot of time to learning how to use it, unlearning what you're used
to with Windows and developing new strategies. So if you don't have the time to
invest, stick to what you're used to.
Best,
Nic

iPad mini

2013-11-15 Thread Chris H

Hello everyone
just a quick message to say there might be an iPad mini owner in the
family at Christmas as I'm hoping my half brothers get one for Christmas
from our parents. Father rung me and asked what one can do with a wifi
tablet and tole them. I then gave a sort of a hint to consider the iPad
or iPad mini for two reasons.
1. They have an iPod Touch already so makes sense to get a tablet
running on the same platform.
2. Since I am a devoted Apple user and helper I will be able to offer
help for an iPad or iPad mini instead of what they liked the look of; a
Samsung tablet. Sorry to sneak that in there grin.
Keep you posted as if they do get the mini I am hoping to feel and have
a brief play with it. Note they are not VoiceOver users but I am.

Any comments welcome.

ipad Mini setup question.

2013-09-04 Thread Jim Noseworthy

Hi Folks:

I have a persons iPad Mini here to set up for accessibility. My question
is, is there any options that I can change on the iPad that are not
found in the iPhone setup? For example, while in the iPad Mini setup
menu, one can go in and out of the setup catagory without meaning to.
Is there a way to prevent that from happening?

Thanks all over the place gang.

Re: ipad Mini setup question.

2013-09-04 Thread Matthew Carello
Hello Jim. The iPad is set up quite different than the IPhone. For instance in
settings there are containers. You have the main settings screen and say you
double tap on something like accessibility it will put those items under the
main one. www.applevis.com has a very well done podcast on setting up an IPad
mini. I also know you can set up gestures for it and that podcast goes into
that also.

Re: Split keyboard on ipad mini.

2013-01-26 Thread Sarah k Alawami
Oh that type of split key board. Try this.

1. turn the rotor to edit by placing 2 fingers on the screen and turning until
you get to typing . I flick once like those nobs where you turn and let go for
the option. Note that you must be in an edit field for this to happen.

2. flick down to touch and then turn the rotor back to chars or words or what
ever you navigate by.

Take care.

Question about status area on an iPad mini

2013-01-03 Thread Matthew C
Hello all sorry for the second question. I am not sure where to look this
up. On my iPad mini where it says charging there is something weird above
it. It says not charging. Then under neath it it says IPad charging. Does
anyone know why it would have this? It jus seems really odd to me.

iPad mini questions

2012-12-03 Thread Debbie April Yuille
Hi All

I'm thinking of getting an iPad mini and I'd like to know, can the external
speaker produce as louder audio as the iPad 2? Also is the overall
performance as good?

Thanks
Debbie

Re: The iPad mini reviewed.

2012-11-23 Thread Chris Moore
I have to slightly disagree with your review. The contrast on the iPad mini
display is excellent, and far superior to the iPad 2. The dots per inch (DPI)
is higher than you quoted, it is actually 166 as the resolution of the display
is the same as the iPad 2, but the same pixel density is squeezed into a
smaller display which means it is slightly sharper than the iPad 2. To be
fair, nobody complained about the iPad 2 display before March this year when
the retina iPad was finally launched.

As for the Nexus, yes it has a higher resolution display, but the apps have not
been designed to take advantage of that. They are just stretched phone apps.
The only thing which is sharper is video and text. As for usability, I still
think Jellybean lags behind ios. Talkback is buggy and less responsive than
voiceover in my opinion and lacks many of the features voiceover has. The only
advantage talkback has over voiceover in my opinion is the ability to choose
your own TTS.

I can say this from experience, my Nexus 7 mainly sits in the drawer and since
getting my iPad mini, it is my device of choice and saves me running down the
battery on my iPhone.

Yes it would have been nice to have a retina display and an A6 CPU, but at this
stage it might have been difficult to cram all that into the thin and light
iPad mini. The Nexus 7's build quality just can't compete with the iPad mini,
and the wider screen on the iPad mini is far superior for reading books and web
pages, compared to the slim 16:9 display of the Nexus.

Before I get slammed by all the Android lovers, this is just my opinion of
owning both products.

Re: The iPad mini reviewed.

2012-11-23 Thread Sadam Ahmed
Hi sir,

Thanks for your opinion.

I always love to spark good discussion on these things.

Actually my concern which I didn't point out in the review is that this device
runs an older CPU.

I wonder what will this mean for software upgrades?

Most likely the iPad 2 will be retired by Apple next year.

If you match Google's tablet with Apple's tablet on price alone there is no
doubt that Google's tablet wins.

I just think this device is too expensive.

This is coming from a guy that owns a 13-inch Macbook Pro, the iPhone 4S, the
iPad 2, the fourth-generation iPod touch, and fifth-generation touch.

But each to his own.

Kind regards,

Re: The iPad mini reviewed.

2012-11-23 Thread Chris Moore
Apple have always been a premium brand, and Apple make their money from
hardware sales.

It is a bit like comparing a Ford to a Mercedes. They both make nice cars, and
both all work the same way, but the Mercedes is more classy and refined.

Macs have always cost more than PCs and the iPod in most cases cost more than
other mp3 players. So this is nothing new for Apple.

The iPad 2 is very popular in the education field, hence why it is still
around. I agree it will probably be discontinued next year, but there is still
plenty of life in the A5 processor for the next 12 to 18 months. Perhaps £249
/$300 would have been a better price, but when you pick the thing up and see
how well it feels in the hand and built quality etc, I think it justifies it's
price.

Of course, if you are not into premium products, then there is Aldi oops I mean
Android :)

2012-10-23 Thread Sarah Alawami
For LTE iPad add an editional $130 if I read it right. I dunno how much LTE
will cost in your place of residence though so check with your LTE provider.

Re: the ipad mini

2012-10-23 Thread Damashe Thomas

Hi,
Usually, any device that has LTE connectivity is also backward compatible
with 3G connections. I would assume this is the case everywhere, and should
be the case with the iPad mini. As for whether or not you will receive your
mini on november 2nd would depend on how apple is handling shipping for the
U.K. I would suspect that shipping info will be made available when you
actually place an order on friday. Also, I think the cellular connected
models will be available for preorder on friday, they will not ship until
mid november. I may be wrong about that, but that is what I understood
today.
