Re: [MacGroup] Apple TV

2014-02-19 Thread MICHAEL ROBERTSON
Based on your postings over the years, Im sure you will know more about it than
I do. I have had both ATV’s 1 and 2. The second one, and now a 3rd I think,
are streaming devices, like Roku. So you can stream from iCloud, for stuff
youve bought in the past, or new stuff. It connects with hdmi, pretty basic
really. Turn on home sharing in iTunes, if you want to send stuff from your
iTunes collection to the box. In iTunes prefs, under playback you can set what
video version you want as default.
Can’t think of anything else at the moment.
Have fun with it.

[MacGroup] iCloud acct hacked?

2012-05-18 Thread MICHAEL ROBERTSON

Help. I have been using all the versions of Apples email service for the last
15 yrs or so, from .Mac to mobile me, to now i Cloud. I have always used the
same password for the account over the years, but for some unknown reason to

Apple made the rules for passwords stricter in iCloud. Some people have been
having the problem that their old passwords don’t satisfy the new rules, so
they can’t log in until the passwords are changed. Here are the requirements.

   • Be at least eight characters.
   • Contain at least one number (0-9).
   • Contain at least one uppercase letter (A-Z).
   • Contain at least one lowercase letter (a-z).
   • Not contain three consecutive identical characters.
   • Not have been used in the past year.
   • Not be the same as your Apple ID username.

Insight has just left, the Apple Airport Extreme handles this

20 would I really be getting the full usage for unless the site I
visited had an UPLOAD speed close to my download speed then I was
not going to get the benefit of the higher speed?

Today I found that was true. This weekend we took the
grandchildren to the Polar Express train ride in French Lick. I
took a high def. camera and videoed much of the trip, taking over
30 min. at least. I put it together in a 5.5 min. movie last
night and sent to all the children. The file was 505 meg and I
had to use YouSend it to send that large a file.

I was noticing that the upload speed was hovering around the 1.3
that Insight offers with the 20 meg. I sent myself a copy of the
video so I could download it this morning to test the 50 meg.
The best I was getting was 4.3 down, even though I could take
50. I did this with the tech guy still here and my question for
all these years was answered. I AM only going to get what the
site I go to will upload. Makes sense. So where the 50 really
helps is downloading multiple items at the same time, I would be
able to get THEIR maximum output on each of the downloads until I
reached the 50 max.

Hm, lots of idle time for the downloads until these vendors
increase their upload speeds.

He also said that by next year they will offer fiber to the home,
with 100 meg download speeds. Once in the home they will offer
to install the fiber to the various rooms, but for a home like I
have they can't for there isn't an exposed beam anywhere other
than the furnace room. The NEXT thing they will offer in a
couple years or so will be fiber to their router, that that uses
wireless to send the very high speeds throughout the house, hope
Apple is ready for this one when it gets here.

He said that with my Apple TV I would notice a difference in the
downloads (I guess, if Apple can push more than 1 or 2 meg
download speeds) and he said the gamers love the 50, but I am not
a gamer.

I tested the speed with Speedtest.net and sure enough I am
hitting right at 50 down and 5.2 up. At least when I am sending
a large file I will notice a difference because I am the one with
the faster upload speed.

Probably not easily. HDMI can be made pretty strict about the
devices it will use for display. There will probably be partial
workarounds by doing screen capture on your Mac, but this will
give huge files with lower quality.

I've been looking at the Apple TV and would be tempted, if I
didn't already have a Roku box. The Roku is cheaper, has more
connection options, and seems to have more content available--
Apple TV doesn't have MLB or Amazon. I expect Apple TV to
eventually get MLB, but Amazon may never show up because Apple's
business model is for the video streaming to come from Apple.
That's probably why Apple's built a big new data center in North
Carolina. The streaming from yesterday's Jobs-show was its first
big test.

Re: [MacGroup] Tivo vs. Apple TV

The one factor for me in this situation, is that by using the Insight
HD-DVR, I don't own the box, so if something goes bad, then they
replace it.

 Hi, all,

Thanks a million for all the great info! It sounds like Tivo is the
way to go for us, rather than Insight's DVR or Apple TV. Now I just
have to decide which box to buy: $150 vs. $300 ordered from Tivo.
Will the less expensive box be obsolete sooner? We don't have an HD
TV at this point, but no doubt will have to get one down the road.
And if I go with the lifetime subscription, will it not last as long
with the $150 box? Questions, questions ...

 Thanks again,

I was watching an episode of the tv program Numbers. In it a laptop

The FBI guy in the tv programs said that since 2005 all computers
 (maybe
that's all laptop computers) are required to have a GPS locating chip/
device in them in case they are stolen/lost etc. Supposedly this will
make them more likely to be found.

Is this accurate / true or is it a fabrication of the script writers
 to
provide a neat ending to the story?

If it's true, can you explain how it works and how one would know what
to look for if one's computer were stolen, lost, or misplaced?

And how can I get one for me so my loved ones can find me when even I
 don't know where I am? :-)

 (1) As soon as they switched it on my iDisk began to flake out.

Files moved from one directory into another appear in both places
 after a sync.

 (2) My mail was inaccessible for two days last week. One of my

vanished. Delayed service once in a while is marginally acceptable.
 Lost mail is inexcusable.

 (3) Calendar syncing is really wonky. My wife made changes to our

 (4) Yojimbo stayed in sync across three machines on dotMac. With

 (5) TextExpander synced flawlessly across three machines with

[MacGroup] Mobile web, two newspaper articles

2007-11-30 Thread Michael Robertson
I was reading a article in last sundays New York times, titled
Mobile Web: So Close Yet so Far. In the third paragraph the writer
mentions the development of ... a frenzied and costly effort to
build third-generation, or 3G, networks ensued. But at a recent
conference, 3G was called a failure
Then in todays Courier, in the business section I noticed a small
paragraph in the digest column that says that , Apple and ATT plan
to begin selling a version of the iPhone next year that operates on a
wireless network for surfing the internet at fast speeds. ATT chief
executive, Randall Stephenson said that consumers could expect an
iPhone that works on 3G networks sometime in 2008. That would
address a major shortcoming of the iPhone. ( I have edited these
quotes some)

So, being kind of bored this afternoon I thought I would throw this
out to some of the tech experts in the group, of which I am surely
not. Does this mean what I think it means. My iPhone is now morphing
into a door stop? Maybe Apple will do this with a software upgrade,
or issue a token voucher for anyone who bought one in 07' toward a
new one. Or maybe my interpretation of these articles is all wrong.
Something to think about over the weekend.

Thanks

Its too bad that this is the only way that you can get their service,

While were on this topic, I was wondering how the members of this
list who have bought the iPhone, like their performance. I am not
trying to start a poll, just how do they mesure up against your
previous phones, in terms of signal strength, the speed of the
browser when not in a WiFi area, ect. Have they been worth the price,
and the service upgrade to get the unlimited data, ect.
I am thinking of switching from my motorola one, and have been with
now ATT, all the way back to the bellsouthmobility days when the
phone was the size of a shoe box, so the SS# thankfully is not a
issue with me.
On that SS# issue, if you give it to a ATT rep on the phone, I feel
you would be safe. But I have read of ID theft when they have been
put on a service app directly to a person at a cell phone shop, and
that person then copies it, I have had to fax mine to rental agencies
in NYC, to cosign for my son, on his apartment lease apps twice, and
so far so good, but it makes me cringe, I've been lucky so far.

Thanks

Don't be so hasty! Upload speed can have a great affect on download
speed. This is because downloads come in packets of about 1500 bytes
and each one has to be acknowledged after it's received. A really
slow upload speed can get in the way of a fast download speed.

One place you can see this is with BitTorrent. Most of the BitTorrent
clients let you set the maximum upload speed from the program. If you
set it too high, and start downloading a popular torrent, you can
easily choke your download speed when your upload sharing kicks in
because the upload bandwidth is choked.

MacGroup: Switch to DSL?

2006-05-30 Thread Michael Robertson
No, you have to have a land line for DSL service, I switched about 6
months ago for some of the same reasons you mentioned. You can get
the 6Mb service from bellsouth for just a bit more than the regular
service from Insight that I think is rated around 4Mb, but its all
relative, because in the fine print of the Bellsouth DSL info, they
state that they do not guaranty any specific speed.
My service has been pretty good most of the time, and has been mostly
reliable. I am using a Airport base station, so I know that will
affect speed as well.
You need to check with the Bellsouth web site, Fastaccess.com to see
if your home qualifies for the service.
Hope this helps.

Insight has been extremely slow lately, and their mac support is
 a joke.
Combine that with the constant down times, and I've just about had
it. No point in paying this much a month for something that I can't
use (at least at acceptable speeds).

Would DSL be a better option for me? anyone using DSL and happy
 with it?
Also, can i get dsl without having a local phone line?
We both use cell phones, and have little to no use for a land line.

 Thanks.

MacGroup: Apple news gossip and router question

2006-02-27 Thread Michael Robertson
Hey group,

I was watching CNBC this afternoon, and there was speculation about a
possible deal between Apple and Disney, now that the high commander
( aka steve jobs ) is the largest Disney stock holder, with the
purchase of Pixar.
Seems that there is talk about movie downloads, and some sort of
merger or buyout involving the two companies, all about the future of
content management, ect. This one analysts ( whos name I do not
remember ) seems to feel the two would be a good fit. It will be
interesting to see how this plays out.

On the router question, is it ok to have a DSL modem and a wireless
router, or ABS, right next to each other? Could there be some
electrical interference from one to the other if they are say 2
inches apart that could effect performance or speed?
TIA for any opinions on this.

Mac Laptop batteries; Do they have memory? Is it O.K. to just
 plug your

 charge is
 almost gone?

I had a chance to talk to a chemical engineer who knows just about
everything there is to know about the lithium batteries in laptops.
 Here's what he said.

The lithium batteries in modern laptops should only rarely be
deeply discharged. They don't have a chemical memory like the older
NiCad batteries. He did say that deeply discharging the battery a
few times per year will calibrate the electronics connected to the
 battery.

Lithium batteries have a limited lifetime, no matter what you do.
Their clock starts ticking as soon as they're born, and they'll die
in at most three years, no matter what kind of life they lead.
Clean living will prolong the life to a certain degree, but not
 beyond 2.5-3 years.

Clean living basically means don't deeply discharge the battery too
often and don't let it get too hot. It should also be exercised
regularly without being plugged into the wall.

Remember that if you don't use your laptop for a long time the
battery will go dead all by itself because of the circuitry built
into the battery. If it goes too dead, you can't charge it again
 without extraordinary efforts.

When the elusive mail Spammer sends out their Bulk mailing they
have to try and avoid being caught. To do this they need to keep
the To: field from having too many address's, as this would be

actually being sent to. In doing this the To: field will contain an
address that is not yours, therefore confusing the receiver. This
is done to make the customer feel as if they were sent the email by

good address. Your best bet in this situation is to just delete the

No? Well for the sake of discussion, let's say you did. Maybe you use
Safari regularly, but took FireFox out for a test browse and signed up
for something. And now you want to use that same username and password
in Safari (maybe you were at the site that tells you not to begin
sentences with the word 'and' except under special circumstances).

Open the Keychain Access app (it lives in your Utilities folder).
Scroll through the list of keys there and select the one you want to
use elsewhere. Now click on the button called Access Control. If you
are a Panther user you will have a button called 'Add', Tigger users
will see the what should now be familiar; the '+' and '-' buttons for
the add and delete functions. Click the add button, you will get a
file dialog box opening up that allows you to find the other app (in
this case the other browser) that you want to allow to use this
 password (this key).

As always, Use With Caution, YMMV!

MacGroup: Graphic wierdness in Safari?

2005-02-23 Thread Michael Robertson
Rex,
Are you running 10.3.8? Cause if you are, maybe that has something to
do with it. After I did the upgrade I noticed other issues with Safari,
that I posted on the list, about inabilities to log onto certain sites
that require a username and password that I had not had problems with
before. As with your post, if I use another browser, IE or firefox, I
have no problem, or with my other 2 macs, which are still running
10.3.7. I did a report bug to Apple, but don't know if it does any
good.

horizontal lines thru it, almost like static.

The little graphics render fine in IE and iCab, it's only Safari meeing
 them up on my Mac.

To Lee and John,
Thanks for replying to my post, but as I said in it, I have done those

Ok, I have done everything I can possibly think of, and still can't get

MacGroup: weird safari/keychain thing

2005-02-17 Thread Michael Robertson
Ok group,
Here is the situation I can't quite figure out. Because of a stolen
credit card number, I have been checking my account status for the
account several times in the last 10 days, to see if any more
fraudulent charges have come through. (The number was closed, and a new
one issued), but I could still access it with the same user name and
password on the Bank One cardmember services web site. I was checking
it yesterday, logged in fine, and all was ok, logged out, then
remembered to check for something that caught my eye, and tried to log
back on. That is when things started getting strange. Every time I now
try to get onto either Bank One site,( one for checking, one for
credit card) using Safari, I go to the Bank One homepage, ok there,
but when I try to log in, after putting in the user name and password,
I get a drop down window saying that Safari cannot find the server. But
this only happens on my work desktop unit, a dual G4 running 10.3.7. I
can do the samething with my laptop( powerbook, also running 10.3.7) at
the same location, and can get on fine. At home, with my iMac I can get
on fine. I have a .Mac account and use iSync to keep the Safari
settings the same with the 3 units. With the desktop G4 I have tried
all I can think of, short of reinstalling Safari, ie: cleared the
cache, history, have run disk permissions, and have even reset Safari,
and trashed the safari. plist file, on that unit, and still can't log
onto THAT site. I have no trouble getting into a account I have with
National City, or any other web activity. If I use Internet Explorer on
the G4, no problem either.
So, should I reinstall Safari, on that G4, and put in the setting files
from one of the other units, or is this a Keychain problem, which I am
ashamed to say, I never really understood how to deal with?
Hope this isn't too long winded, but thought one of you problem solvers

MacGroup: Internet Cleanup

2005-01-31 Thread Michael Robertson
I bought this program a few weeks back primarily because of my paranoia
of spyware, and the fact that this program was supposed to search your
hard drive for it. I have used it with some success, but I found that
the pop up blocker seems to interfere with Ebay's opening pages, ect.
When ever I run the search for spyware, none has been found, so I guess
I'm ok there.
On Jan 31, 2005, at 1:10 PM, Rob Kersting wrote:

Well, I figured, what the heck, and installed it.

It really doesn't have much that couldn't be done with Applescripts,
with the possible exception of finding the spyware (if any). But since
the spyware button is disabled in the trial version, we'll never know
how that works unless we fork over the $$.

I'm sure there are other utilities that do the same thing, possibly as
shareware or freeware. Firefox blocks popups very, very well, so that
 function of IC is unnecessary.

I once used Aladdin (Allume's) preference cleaner, it trashed a number
of preferences for apps I regularly used and caused a great deal of
damage. It's difficult to think that a company can safely create a
utility like this that fits every profile imaginable.

If I were to use it, I would use it with a great deal of caution.

 easy to contaminate.

If you use Safari or Firefox as your browser, they are capable of
blocking pop-ups ads. You can manually remove your history cache,
browser cache, and determine your cookie policy yourself. If you use
one or even two browsers, this takes little time, but you must
 schedule it or remember to.

If you fear spyware and use Internet Explorer, it may be worthwhile
and you get the other utilities with it.

Finally, if you are using a company/university machine, your system
administrator should be consulted re: policy and may have to install
it for you depending on your user privileges.

MacGroup: WIFI question

2005-01-28 Thread Michael Robertson
Stuart,
I am no expert on this, but before I was to send a 15titanium
powerbook up to my daughter in chicago, I put in a airport card(it uses
the original one) and went up to highland coffee, knowing they had
wi-fi there. When I powered up, the airport applet at top left showed
the signal, I clicked on it and it showed the name of the account to
which I clicked on and that was it, I was surfin and drinkin. If a cafe
had their's password protected, then I'm sure they would give that to
you. As long as your network settings in system prefs are set for
airport, you should be good to go. I guess their range is the same as
most wireless routers, 150' or so.
Hope this helps.

OK, this may be a really simple question, but here it

directly through a DSL line. I know that almost all
the cafe's are set up with WIFI now. So, what do I
need to do (as far as switching settings) to use the
WIFI networks at these places. And, to switch it back
to DSL when I get home. And, how far is the reach in
these places? Can you access it from their parking
lot (I would assume so). Would the settings be the
same (as the coffee shop wireless settings) if I again
got my wireless setup going at home?

 Thanks,

Beth, you can check the bellsouth web for their dsl, fastaccess.com to
see if your area in oldham county is capable of getting the service, I
have a cable modem from insight because our house(blankenbaker road and

with it, but for the last year and half, its been fine. We have a
airport extream base station connected to the modem and run two to
three macs with no problems, my wife uses AOL with no problems, IMing
our kids (away at college) all the time. I think broadband from a
satellite company like Dish is still pretty expensive, last time I
checked, around $120/month. Good luck with whatever you decide on.

Subject: MacGroup: High speed access newbie

I recently married and my husband and I are considering moving up to
high speed access from our individual AOL dial-up accounts. We are not
set on sticking with AOL, though he?s addicted to his Instant
Messaging, and are considering alternatives. He has (gasp!) a Windoze
machine running XP. I have a Macintosh G4 running Jaguar. We will want
to share the high speed access and if possible I?d like to set up a
small network consisting of the two computers and an old LaserWriter
16/600 I got from work. I also bring home my Powerbook from work
occasionally and would like to be able to connect it to the network as
 well.

Can I get some feedback on the various types of high speed access
available in the local area (we are in Oldham County) as far as ease
of setup and what is required for each? I know that AOL has high speed
access as does Bell South, Insight and Dish Network. Are there any
others I should consider and what are the pros and cons of each?

I know I will need a small network hub, but will I need a router too?
 Any recommendations on these?

MacGroup: erase disc question

Rob,
One followup question I would have on this subject is, If I want to
strip the hd of a cube we are no longer using, and after starting up

your machines or take it apart and make windchimes out of the platters
(they have a BEAUTIFUL ring tone).

Apple's Disk Utility has a low-level format option that lets you zero
all data and I believe Norton's Disk Erase is approved by some
governent agency or another to be totally secure.

Start it up with the System Disk, open the Disk Setup and choose
initialization options. Choose low-level format and zero all data. Run
that a few times and you should be pretty safe. Then just install the
system and box it up to sell.

MacGroup: Dead Spare Battery?

2004-12-31 Thread Michael Robertson
I read in a Macworld article recently on the subject of rechargeable
batteries, that with the ones for mac laptops it is a good idea every
month or two to let them run all the way down and then do a full
charge, it said the same for iPods too.
On Dec 30, 2004, at 11:14 PM, Dan Crutcher wrote:

I left the battery in and charging overnight and, lo and behold, when
I checked the next morning, it registered a full charge. I guess it
just took a while to get warmed up. Now I just have to remember not
to wait another 6 months to put my other battery in and charge it up.

Does anyone know of a way to make these spare Powerbook batteries
keep longer if unused. Or is it simply a necessity to use them every
so often to keep them from dying for good -- a use it or lose it
 scenario?

Apple released a battery firmware update a while back that fixed some
battery problems. My battery would show 100%, would click down to
about 90% and then immediately drop to 0%. The firmware update fixed
it for me. If it doesn't work for you, then you'll need a new
battery. It's a good chance after 6 months that the battery won't
charge again. When these batteries are completely drained of juice,
often they won't come back completely, if at all.

 Hope this helps!

Hey group,
I have a cable modem connection thru Insight, and have recently noticed
that my connection speed is getting really slow. According to the speed
tests that I've run, I am only getting about twice the speed of dial
up, 175kpbs. Do you think its because of the busy holiday online
shopping traffic? I have two G4 desktops running off a airport extreme

and the speed is the same for both. The signals to each seem fine.

free use on the Mac by Karelia:

 http://weblog.karelia.com/MacOSX/WatsonStatus.html

 Here's the deal:

Watson was developed for Jaguar. It is one of the best things out
there for looking for info on the web w/o searching. When Panther came
along, Apple took most of the look and feel from Watson and put it
into Sherlock. Never once even mentioned Sherlock as an inspiration.
So... Karelia decided that Watson for the Mac was dead, and sold it to
Sun, who promised a Java (i.e. platform independent) version of it by,
oh, September 2004. Sun instead sat on it, and never developed it.
Karelia thought that this was a waste of a good product, and found a
loophole in their agreement with Sun which allowed them to give away
 licenses.

Check it out. It is one app I use at least twice every day.

MacGroup: Windoz laptop for sale

2004-11-22 Thread Michael Robertson
Hey group,
For anyone interested, I have a Toshiba 17 Satellite P25 laptop, that
my son had used for one year at school, for sale. Email me if
interested and I can give the specifics on it. I just had it checked
out by a toshiba repair center. I think it should fetch $800 or so.
Thanks for your attention, everyone have a good thanksgiving!

MacGroup: address book/ .mac

2004-10-27 Thread Michael Robertson
Bill, I can't help with the .mac and sync angle, as I am new to that my
self. But I think you should be able to find your address book info in
the home folder, library, application support. If you copy that and
reinstall it in your new home folder in the same place, and select
replace when asked, it should work.

 have resurrected what I need,
except for the contacts. I have a back-up that I think I could use,
but that would be too easy.
Here's why I'm asking for help: When I go to my 'dot Mac' account,
 and click on address book,
all of my contacts are instantly there. How can I do a synch from the
 'dot Mac' world to my
laptop? I have tried clicking on 'preference' on the dot mac address
 book then making sure
synching is turned on and clicking on save. The only thing that
 happens is the few contacts
that I have added to the laptop, are now added to the dot mac list.
Is the synch only one way?
The help section indicates synching will make the .mac address book
 the same as your
computer. (Plan B = If my only hope is the back-up, what file is the
 address contacts stored in?)

 Any ideas?

MacGroup: logitech mouse

2004-01-13 Thread Michael Robertson
Marta, I have found that the batteries seem to last about 4 to 6 months, you
will know when they need to be replaced when it starts to make the cursor act
eraticly, jumping around, not responding well to the movements of the mouse.

Thanks, Harry and Michael, I installed it . It works fine, however,
when I install Panther, it may only do the plain functions, so the lady
said when i called. This mouse will only support up to Jaguar. One more
question : how long approx.does one of those run on those two
batteries since there is no device to turn it off when not in use?

electrical devices. My whole desk is full of printers, scanners, lamps

MacGroup: logitech mouse

2004-01-12 Thread Michael Robertson
I have just the one you are describing, and I think its great! I have been
using a cordless mouse for several years, i'll never use a corded one, I even
got a apple cordless keyboard, no more cords here. The reciever can be well
behind or below your work area and still work fine. The one I use at home is on
the floor and it still receives fine.

MacGroup: spyware

2004-01-09 Thread Michael Robertson
I took note of article in yesterdays CJ about AOL providing spyware protection
and that earthlink already has it for windows users. Is this something that us
Mac users should consider having? I run all the latest security updates with
software update, and am using a router for my dsl connection. I went to
versiontracker and typed in spyware and was directed to a program called
MacScan X ver. b8. Any opinions on this?
Thanks

If anyone is interested, I have a snow slot load imac for sale. It has 600MHz

I have maxed out the RAM to 750Mb. Saw one sell on ebay yesterday for $510.00
so $500 seems fair to me.
Phone if you want to 581-1081.

One thing they have discussed is getting a digital camera. If the boys
want to process digital images on these computers won't they need
firewire? or will usb 1 work?

Rex Baldazo wrote:

I don't see any network stuff (they aren't now but

firewire? Should she assume anything comes with?

On the networks and modem, don't assume they come with the box. They might
but get that in writing.

As for USB and firewire, it's generally safe to assume that you are getting at
least USB since almost all PC motherboards come with support for USB.
However, if you need USB 2.0 (the high-speed version that's essentially as
fast as Firewire 400) then you can't assume since there's plenty of older
motherboards still out there that only support the USB 1.1 standard and not
the new USB 2.0. You should get that in writing (note: USB 2.0 is sometimes
called USB Hi-Speed)

But Firewire is much less common on PC motherboards, so here again just like
with the network support you'd better get it in writing. Don't assume.

As for your whole PC vs. Mac decision, one cost you should consider is the
virus cost. My Mom has a PC (because that's what they use at work and she
doesn't want to learn something different at home) and I've had to spend a
good deal of time and effort with her a couple times when her PC got infected.
And though I bought and installed anti-virus software for her, she doesn't
download the virus patches regularly which is why it gets infected
periodically.

Still, for her I think it is in fact best that she have a PC since that way
Word and Excel look and act exactly the same for her whether she's at home or
work. And that kind of uniformity does matter for people who aren't big
techno-geeks like some of us.

My email service will keep emails moved to a 'saved mails' folder indefinately.
Or you can use the old fashioned method of printing it.

Were all your affected bookmarks overseas sites? The current Internet Traffic

Seems to indicate some problems reaching sites out in Asia and Australia--if
your bookmarks were out there it might have just been Internet problems and not
Safari.

Subject: MacGroup: Safari Bookmarks

Hey Group,
I don't know if this is a friday the 13th thing or what, but I have been using
Safari for 6 months, have had no major problems thus far, (except retainment of
user names and passwords on my mac at home thats set up for multi-users, but
thats another story.) Today, while using Safari, when I opened the bookmark
list, only about a third of the bookmarks would work. I would double click on a
bookmark, and nothing, go down the list, and same thing, some would open, most
not. I emptyed the cache, cleared the history and even reset it, to no avail.
Then I exported the bookmark file to save it, and reinstalled Safari, imported
the bookmark file, and still the same situation. Very strange. Any one have or
had this happen? Thanks for any responces,
Mike Robertson
