To me it would be if I could afford it or not?
I am dropping stuff a lot more than I used and I do drink coffee and or water
etc. around my computer.
If it were me and I could afford the extra $110 I would do it as I know it
would be me or my Grandson
even though I do not let him on mine he is 4 years old and if he can get away
with it he will get on it.

Re: [MacGroup] Not a 128 Mac DUH!

2013-10-31 Thread Steven Brown
If everyone is talking about where I mentioned a 128? Why? So someone owns a
128 and it does not look like that? Who said it did?

I never said that the link or picture looked like anything?

I did say I had a Plus and another guy had a 128? No, it did not have anything
to do with it.

Should I apologize for mentioning it?

So how did that come out of that?

Also several months back someone was looking for a Beige G3 and I mentioned a
guy that I purchased a lot from on E-Bay?

As I have a few but none of the Beige G3s I have was not what they wanted.

It was not like it would have benefit me as this guy lives in New York but
someone made a comment about it anyway?

A couple of years ago I had some stuff that I was selling on E-Bay and sent a
link to the list!

I did not know what the link said until everyone else did? It said something
like I saw this item on E-Bay.

I caught hell for that too? Which could have been said differently? Like Steve,
we are not allowed to promote our own items? That would have been good enough
for me!

I have a lot of older Mac stuff (extra parts and such that I could trade or
sell) (can I say that or mention it without anyone having something to say?) as
I had been trying to get a few items to fix up for my (2) 4 year old Grandsons.
One is Hyper and we just found out this year my daughters son is Autisic.

I like the advice and answers given but it makes me afraid to say much of
anything as it seems like someone is going to make a comment or not like what I
said?

Wow, that is interesting!

Please note all, that that is not the computer that Apple introduced. The
first Mac (that they sold) never had the Twiggy drive. Notice that it is
longer and thinner than the microfloppy that they eventually released in
1984. This one HAS to be a preproduction model. Maybe that's why they are
expecting FORTY THOUSAND Euros!!!

I HAD a 128, so I know that the one in the picture is NOT a 128.

Pretty cool. I had no idea that such a thing existed! Although, every once in
a while someone shows up with some preproduction one-of-a-kind like this and
we get a glimpse into the world of RD at Apple.

some computer work for a friend and in return gave me 2 laptops (powerbook G4,
macbook a1181) They came with no chargers or anything. I took the macbook to
the Apple store to see if I can get it to power-up or anything. Well it didn't
do anything, a came home and joined mac forums, told them what happened and
they basically said that they think the Logic board is dead. They also
suggested i find a local mac users group, they might be able to help me figure
it out or sell a old but still use-able mac. I'm disabled and still waiting on
back pay. I really want a mac always have but never been able to afford one.
I'm willing to sell the laptops including this one so I can get a working mac.

I have two iMacs (old and new)  and am trying to get all my stuff onto my new
one. Since I previously moved stuff from old to new, but continued to work
mostly on old I need to move all stuff from ole to new.

Old: 2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo running Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
New: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 running Mac OS X 10.8.3 (Puma aka Mountain Lion:)

My plan: Set up new account on new machine. Use Migration Assistant to move all
from old to new account.
Then move photos from old account on new iMac to new account on iMac. After
this I plan on deleting the old account on the new iMac.

It is the latter I don't know how to do. Actually not sure about the former two
steps but figure I should be able to figure them out.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance - before I screw up both machines.

Second problem.

I have Time Capsule (backup + wireless base station) and want to set it up.
Currently using Airport Extreme for my wireless onnection. If I just unhook the
Extreme and hook up the Capsule will I have immediate wireless connection or
will I have to make some settings somewhere? I don't want to lose the wireless
connection because then I won't be able to ask for help.

I always prefer Apple because everything is so easy; however I am always very
tentative when making any major changes because I'm afraid I'll end up with
nothing working.

P. S. I have everything backed up to external hard drives on both machines.

[MacGroup] iPhone 3GS will be mine

I got a decent response when I asked for help about getting a new Mac. I picked
up the $499 Mac Mini and took it back the next day and paid the extra $200 and
got the quad 4 with the i7 processor.

I have an iPhone 3GS which I acquired thru ATT. My contract will be up soon
and the phone will be mine.

We have everything here at home ATT along with me paying $85 a month with my
phone service?

I asked how much a plan would run once the phone is paid for and they said the
same amount?

If I really wanted to do that I would go ahead and get the new iPhone 5.

Does anyone know if I can take my iPhone with me to another provider?

I am also wanting to get my Wife a phone and service.

[MacGroup] MacAuthority?

2013-04-23 Thread Steven Brown
I asked about buying a new or used Mac and a lot of you have mentioned
MacAuthority.

I saw a guys picture on their website and sort of thought I knew him?

I thought I used to call him Danny but he said he has always gone by Daniel.

I used to work out at Sears Oxmoor Mall and after I was there about 2 weeks
they bumped my pay up an extra $2 per hour.

They told me I was like an Assistant Manager without the Title?

Anyway I wrote schedules and supervised everyone else that worked in Tool
Territory. including Danny or Daniel.

I called and talked to him briefly and will go by there tomorrow.

He said probably the best way to go would be the Mac Mini but I did not get

[MacGroup] MacWorld or MacWeek Article

2013-04-17 Thread Steven Brown
I was going to say MacGroup article.

By the way I also have AT T and not sure if it was a step up or a step down
especially here in my garage when you could really see the times flucuate in
reception.

Anyway speaking of Apple I had one from back to the Mac Plus even though I was
dying for an SE I could not afford the extra cost.

Here is the MacWeek for today.

[MacGroup] New Hard Drive PowerMac G5

2013-04-12 Thread Steven Brown
My 160 Maxtor Hard Drive is still running at present.

What would be the best way to installing a new hard drive?

I ended up checking around last night online and several office places.

I had to pick up a throttle cable for a lawnboy and we was close to Outer Loop
and I stopped in at Best Buy. (I'll bet you thought I got a hard drive there?)
I did.

We did not have any rope or duct tape with us to control the 4 year old. :) We
took our Grandson in with us and he tried to get into most everything.

I walked past the tech counter looking for hard drives but there was modems and
routers.

I walked around the end cap and saw a clearance section which was about 4 feet
and it had a couple internal and external drives.

I saw an internal Seagate Barracuda 500 GB along with 16MB Cache for $64.99 it
was a larger hard drive than mine and also had 8 more meg of Cache,

I grab the drive and start heading up front and notice the regular location of
the hard drives. I glanced down to look at the 500 GB Hard Drives to see how
much I was saving? Lets see, oh they are originally $64.99, so luckily I saw
the clearance and was able to get it for $64.99 a savings of $0.00?

I grabbed a salesman (not that way) and he said he was sorry that it was put
there.

I asked to speak to a sales rep or manager when all along I meant a District
Manager.

The store manager ended up showing up and asked me what I wanted? Or what can I
do for you and after explaining the situation he offered me $20 off. I took it.

Then later we looked at TVs and ended up bringing home a new TV along with
another Entertainment Center and Sound System and Blu-Ray combined.

Any ideas on installing the drive?

Start out with a fresh system install and go from there?

[MacGroup] PowerMac G5 Performance Issues?

2013-04-10 Thread Steven Brown
I was having G5 issues a while back as it was slow connecting to the Internet
or waiting for Explorer to load.

I kept asking questions but never got the right answer? Maybe I did not ask the
right question? or questions?

I had been thinking a slow connection or needed to switch from G to N which
I did.

I finally maxed the memory out to 8 Gigs and it still did not help much?

Right now I am assuming that it is my hard drive as you can hear it start and
stop a lot more.

Does anyone have a reasonably priced hard drive that is larger than the
original 160 GB that came with this machine? The newer style drives or new to
me SATA Drive.

Thanks

[MacGroup] Someone looking for Card Reader? Targus - Walmart

2013-03-02 Thread Steven Brown
Someone mentioned the other night that they had got a new Mac or iMac (lucky
dog :).

Anyway I was in the house and most of my Mac stuff is in the garage so I was
unable to respond.

I was needing a card reader and I think I got it at Walmart (that is pretty
bad, as I have only had it a couple of weeks and can not remember for sure?) it
is made by Targus and was under $10. Anyway I needed it sort of quick and did
not want to order it online.

It says High Speed SD/SDHC/MMC
Micro SD / T-F
Card Reader/Writer

It works on my G5 and I am maxed out at OS X 10.5.8.

I hope this helps.

[MacGroup] My G5 is slow or sort of Freezes on Videos? Help?

2013-02-26 Thread Steven Brown
How can I speed up my G5?

It is a 2004 Machine with a max memory of 8gb.

It has a 2.5 dual processor.

Right now I have 7 gigs of memory until I can afford 2 more 1 gig.

It just seems really sluggish playing videos or video and music?

What can I do to speed it up? It seems like it takes a long time to download or
buffer the videos to where t
to where it will stop until it receives it?

Could it be because of my wireless? We just upgraded to an N Router.

And to run an E Cable out to the garage would be hard to do without out it
sagging as my Router is about 50 plus feet away from the garage?

Help!

I have never saw one either or even knew that they made such a thing.

I think all I have is some external scsi cables and one is about 6 feet.

I also have 1 adapter and I think it is scsi to parallel adapter for the older

The adapter is new and I have a shorter cable that is new.

If anyone has any use for any of these items let me know, as other people on

Which way are you trying to go SCSI port -- USB device or USB port -- SCSI

Apple's mail, and most other email programs, support a standard called SMIME.
If you install an SMIME certificate in your keychain, you'll then have the
ability to digitally sign your email and other people can send you strongly
encrypted email. SMIME certificates are available for free from lots of places.
I'd go with a well-known source like Comodo for more security.

You can also use PGP to do the same thing, but Apple's mail has no built-in

S/MIME email certificates

Hi Lee! This is excellent advice, which I just followed. It should probably be
noted that this process is not entirely transparent to the casual user. There
are several steps to make this work:

(1) Go to comodo.com (for example) with your browser and find the free email
certificate link, i.e.:

https://secure.comodo.com/products/frontpage?area=SecureEmailCertificatecurrency=USDregion=North+Americacountry=USentryURL=http%3A//www.comodo.com/

(2) After typing in your info and email address it will auto-generate your
digitally-signed email certificate and it will be AUTO-IMPORTED into your
browser.

(3) You then need to go into the browser preferences (I was using Firefox),
advanced security and find certificates (for you) and export (backup) this
certificate (say to your desktop).

(4) You then need to go into your email program (I was using Thunderbird) and
IMPORT this certificate file. In Thunderbird's case this was under account
settings...security...view (and import) certificates.

(5) Don't forget to then SELECT that certificate for that account and check the
(Digitally Sign all emails) checkbox.

(6) If you then send a test email to yourself you should see the a digitally
signed envelope icon or somesuch at the top of your email.

I hope this helps! Lee might be able to explain this in better detail at some
point in the future!

[MacGroup] G5 Network Card or SMA Cable for antenna

2013-02-05 Thread Steven Brown
I have a G5 and do not get very good reception with my airport extreme card as
I am about 75 feet away from the house where my router is.

I put a card in my G4 and it now picks up great. It is a RaLink Card. It would
also work in my G5 but it is an older card and they are hard to find. I am
trying to find a reasonably priced one otherwise I would buy a new one.

Does anyone have a network card preferably an N card? That will work in my G5.

Or does anyone know of an SMA cable that I can connect to the back of my G5 and
then add the antenna so that I can position it for better reception?

I also have a brand new Belkin Share N 300 Router that I bought incase ATT did
not replace my old G Router. Would I be able to use this in the garage here
with my Macs as a bridge?

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

It seems like the FCC or someone would have better control of this anyway.

Even trying to read e-mails or something else of interest you have a flashing

wonder how the heck you got there!

Look how long it took to change the Television ads. The volume would
automatically go up when commercials came on and you would have to mute or
lower the volume every time. If I really wanted to listen or watch it I am
capable of turning up the volume myself!

That is like when you click on a link for more information and then they spam
you with others ads besides theirs.

By the way John if you come up with a solution let us all know as this is sort
of new to me too, as I have not used the time machine as of yet. I guess I need
to read up on that too.

[MacGroup] G5 Help Memory Configuration?

2013-01-30 Thread Steven Brown
I need help with my G5 memory configuration:

I have a G5 with 5 Gigs of memory in it.

It is the 2.5 Ghz with the 8 gig configuration.

Looking at the memory banks from the front of the machine with it lying on its
side the memory is installed as follows all are 3200, 400 dimms.

Left side is: 512, 512, 512 and 1 gig.
On the right side is just the opposite: 1gig, 512, 512, and 512.

Both 1 gig dimms are facing each other in the middle on opposite banks.

But in system profiler they show up as the following:

Dimm0/J111gig
Dimm1/j121gig
Dimm2/j13512
Dimm3/j14512

Dimm4/j41512
Dimm5/j42512
Dimm6/j43512
Dimm7/j44512

For it to be a faster machine it seems slower than the G4s and one of them is a
DP 867 with less memory only 1.5.

It says to install the memory in pairs but I can not afford to get 1 gig dimms
at the present time.

Should I reconfigure it another way?

With the 1 gig Dimms on opposite banks why do they show up as Dimm 0 and 1 and
J11 and J12?

Any help appreciated!

In the meantime I will go back and read up on it again.

Thanks

Re: [MacGroup] Insight

2013-01-21 Thread Steven Brown
We had moved from over by Tom, we lived on Southern Heights and moved in with
her Father to take care of him.
Insight was our provider at the time so we had it transferred here off of
Bluelick Rd.
They contract out a lot of work and the guy that came to install it we told him
we wanted access to cable in her Fathers room.
He starts drilling and doing this and that and some of the rooms that had cable
already running to them he decided to take it upon
himself to rip it out?
We later had to have it put in but that being said we have also had troubles
with ATT. I wanted a newer style router N and they kept putting me off.
When I did get them back out here a guy that used to work for Insight was
downing the last guy as we were supposed be upgraded to newer cabling which
he had not done.
I also do not understand why I have to have separate internet service for my
iPhone 3. My 2 years will be up this year and will be looking for another
provider
as I do not need the newest phone besides this will be mine.

That's an excellent post, Jonathan! I believe we can make the world a more
pleasant place by putting ourselves in others' shoes.

That said, I have had my grumbles with Insight as well. What gets me every time
is that any time you call to report that your internet service is down, they
think it's an opportune moment to try to sell you their phone service!

Still, I like Jonathan's outlook about giving others the benefit of the doubt.
And I,too, truly appreciate all the knowledge and insights this group offers!

Insight has its issues (Not very often for me, though). ATT has issues
(surprisingly enough, again, not for me). I have heard all kinds of bad
things about Verizon and their customers. Dish has good service (if you're
not trying to watch the weather channel in a storm). You even hear people
ranting and raving about how bad Apple customer service is and ironically
they are consistently rated the best in customer satisfaction. A business can

For the past several years I've posted to this group the December statistics
for operating systems used by computers that access our website,
Louisville.com. This year's 2012 OS stats give the breakdown by percentage of
the 120,897 computer users who visited Louisville.com in December 2012 and
compares this year's numbers to the same month's numbers going back to 2007.

The continuing and still accelerating decline of Windows as the OS of people
coming to the site is particularly striking, as is the meteoric rise of the
mobiles, iOS and Android. 2013 will no doubt be the year that Windows visitors
drop to less than half of the users visiting our site. Who would have predicted
that in 2007?

I have no idea how our stats (from Google Analytics) compare to national stats,
but I have no reason to think that Louisville.com would differ much from other
sites. If anyone has national stats, I'd like to see them.

Re: [MacGroup] Beige G3 mini tower available anywhere?

2013-01-08 Thread Steven Brown
I do not have any beige G3's but I do have some blue and whites I think (blue
and something anyway) I also have a 400 and 466 processor and heat sink.
But on these processors you have to match the bus speed or something or they
will not show up as the speed that they are rated, but I am sure most already
know that.

I was keeping these around for spares but now most of the stuff I have is G4s
and 1 G5 so I really do not need these G3s.

Like I said they are not the beige ones.

I had a friend on here to give me a firewire cable and it was appreciated.

With that being said if I have anything that someone needs they can have parts
or a G3 just let me know and I will make sure
that I get a working one together for somebody.

I do not know why I was keeping these anyway as I am trying to fix up a G4 for
my Grandson actually I have to (two) Grandsons and once I
get one going I will need to fix one up for the other even though I do not get
to see him much just trying to be fair about it.

If someone did not want to give it to me I am sure one of the Scholars could

2013-01-03 Thread Steven Brown
Did I live in a Beaver Pond?
We lived at 734 Grade Lane.
Shannon Self lived at 736 Grade Lane directly across from The Grocery Liner
which they owned.
My brother in Laws family owned it before they did which was The Foster Family
which was from Boston, KY and
My brother in laws older brother owned Eagle Lake (The Old Catfish Haven which
is off of Dixie is now called Eagle Lake?) out there which he built.
We got to walk thru it before it was finished and were the first ones to fish
in it.
My Nephews and I was using Cane Poles and caught buckets of fish, the most I
ever caught, of course we threw most back in.
Then The Salt River would flood into it every year so eventually there was some
Big Fish in there.

Sorry I usually do not make long posts!
Also at about 738 there was Pugs Barber Shop and his house (Pug Gilbert).

My older brother used to find a lot of arrow heads where Dixe Cartage or
Warehouse is now as I think there was also an Indian Burial Ground near there
unless I got my P's and Q's mixed up!

Online shopping seems like a straightforward process: hunt down the perfect
item, trudge through the checkout pipeline and await a package's inevitable
arrival. The trip between a warehouse and your doorstep, however, involves
meticulous organization on a massive scale. In order to pull off such a feat,
United Parcel Service (UPS) relies on Worldport in Louisville, Ky.: a 5.2
million-square-foot processing facility that's capable of sorting up to 416,000
packages an hour. Within Worldport, 70 aircraft docks and 155 miles of conveyor
belts await the arrival of packages from over 220 countries and territories.
So, what happens when UPS gets ahold of those parcels destined for air
delivery? The folks clad in brown took us inside their largest sorting hub to
find out.

[MacGroup] Mac OS X 4.11 vs Mac OS X 5.8?

2012-10-04 Thread Steven Brown
I have a Power Mac G4 set up to where I can run my Iphone and Itunes running OS
X 5.8.

I also have OS X 4.11 on another drive so I can run Classic apps.

When I connect to the Internet with OS X 4.11 my signal seems to be stronger
than with OS X 5.8?

Is there a reason for this?

We have a 2WIRE Router from ATT and it is a G.

I have ordered a Netgear N router hoping it will boost my signal up as it
also works as a range extender.

This unit is in the garage around 75 feet from the house with a standard
airport card.

Has anyone else had the same problem with different versions of OS X?

I had been having trouble too and I am connected thru ATT and I was going to
upgrade 1 step above to the quickest but they said it would not help. My router
is in the house along with other computers and my macs are in the garage.
It seemed like while my reception was dropping the Insight customers kept
showing up as possible network connections.
The tech that I talked too turned up the range on the router which helped some
but there can be other factors such as distance from the router or other
obstacles.
My G4's did not have as much problems as did the G5 with extreme it would not
pick up at all until I bought an antenna.
So, it is not just insight but I am sure others have problems too, I am
interested to see what kind of answers you receive.

It seems like after 3pm when the kids get home the reception goes down.
When I lived over by Tom I hsd to change my wireless phones to the dect 6.0 and
got better reception.
I think my airport cards are only capable of G and not N, so I do not think
a new router would do me much good and besides the one we have now is furnished
by ATT.
It does seem like since I talked to a tech the other day my G5 is doing better
until 3pm.
I have been reeading about internet or reception boosters.
Do they work?
Would I be better off getting a WiFi usb and then getting an N Router?
In the garage I am probably 50-75 feet away from the router.

From a back bedroom I can get online easily during the day, but at night it's
just a nightmare trying to get and stay connected.

It occurred to me that Insight must be dialing back its Internet connection
during the evening. So I conducted a speed test; and sure enough, I'm getting
just half the Internet speed I'm paying for in the evening.

Please tell me if I'm wrong. Otherwise, they will hear from me on Monday!!!

I doubt it's an Insight problem.

You don’t  say, but I suspect it's a wireless connection. There's probably a
lot more neighborhood WiFi traffic in the evening than during the day.
Interference from the other routers can seriously degrade your connection.

You can check on your signal strength by clicking on the WiFi icon in the menu
bar while holding down the option key. This will show you your channel and
other information about the connection. In particular, take a look at the RSSI
and transmit rate. If the RSSI is -70 or less, then you have a poor connection.
A low or fluctuating transmit rate can also happen from interference. Under
802.11g the maximum transmit rate is 54. 802.11n can go double that, in 5 GHz.
(If you have any other g devices in use and you're using the older frequencies
for your n connection, it won't go any faster than a g connection.) If your
devices are compatible, make sure you're at 802.11n and 5 GHz.

There are a few things you can try.

Change the channel on your router and you might hit one that's less congested.

If your devices are new enough, make sure you are using 802.11n instead of
802.11b or 802.11g and you're set for the 5GHz band. The higher frequencies of
the n+5GHz connection aren't used by as many devices like cordless phones and
baby monitors, so they tend to be quieter and faster. Those frequencies don’t
go through walls as well, however.

Move your router closer to the computer, or vice versa. This will increase the
signal strength. You could also get a signal booster and put it halfway between.

If your router is old, then get a new one. The newer routers are much more
robust than those of even four or five years ago.

There are a few programs on the App Store that claim to be useful for
diagnosing WiFi problems. I've used one called WiFi Scanner, but I don’t  claim
to know it's the best. (It's only $0.99, so you really don’t  have much to
lose.)

I'll look into NeoOffice. What I'm really looking for is an inexpensive desktop

Also must have PC version. I see where NeoOffice has OpenOffice.

 Steve,

Are you saying Safari is not on your volume?
What version of the OS are you running? 10.2, 10.3?
If you do not see the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then it
 is
likely that you do not have it installed.
Did you use the Find command (apple-F) under the File menu in the
 Finder to
 look for it?
If you do not have it, a simple look at Apple's web site would have
 gotten
 you there.

 http://www.apple.com/safari/

There is a nice big button that says Download Safari 1.2
One you download Safari, it will install itself inside the Applications
folder. When you double-click on Safari, you can go to the Safari
Preferences under the Safari menu and choose the General icon.
You can then set Safari as your default browser.
If Safari is running, it will appear in your Dock, simply holding down
 the
mouse button over the Safari icon in the dock will pop up a menu and
 you can
choose to keep it in the Dock.

After seeing your second post while writing this,

I can launch safari, but nothing in it opens.

I do have it set as default.

I can't figure out what I am doing wrong?

I might suggest you look at the menu bar when you double-click on
 Safari.
Does it show the word Safari next to the blue Apple?
If so, then Safari is launching and you should be able to go to the
 File
 menu and choose new window.
If, when you double-click on the Safari icon you do NOT see the word
 Safari
next to the blue Apple, then you might want to download and reinstall
 Safari.

Next time try to be more explicit when describing the problem. It may
 help
 others help you faster.

If there's interest I could put together an LCS presentation on
 ripping
those LPs to disk and thence to CD. What do you think, Harry?

MacGroup: Problem with sons G3 Desktop

2004-02-08 Thread Steven Brown
This was on an eide drive, I also took it off and used the scsi drive
with a clean install.

Could it be the sound card? Or a hardware problem?

I know this might sound crazy, but it seemed to happen after switching
from a 14 monitor to a 17 monitor. It was originally a 300 and I put a
333 zif in it.

Maybe it is the numbers?

MacGroup: Problem with sons G3 Desktop

2004-02-07 Thread Steven Brown
My sons computer has no sound. The sound adjustments in the control
panel slides back down when adjusted?

It says the sound port is in use by another application. But, it says to
check the ports? There is nothing plugged into the mic or audio ports.

Has anyone else experienced the same problems?

He has a beige G3 with 9.1 loaded on it.

Thanks

MacGroup: G3/Panther?

What blue and white do you have?

How much memory?

Is this the newest or is it 10.2?

Thanks

 Rex,

I just put Panther on a Blue White. I added a little more memory and
boy it works perfectly. I was amazed, and I can open all the Office
Suite, have Mail open, Safari and the performance is VERY good. I
wanted to give this to a family that had a missionary brother going to
Africa and they had no way to contact them, so I offered to help. I
wasn't sure, but it works flawlessly and in the two weeks they have had
it there have been no problems.

MacGroup: Re: Mactown

2003-10-23 Thread Steven Brown
You always take a chance on purchasing something online, even though you
can save some money, you still have to consider packaging and shipping
costs.

Then if the item arrives damaged, you have the hassle of having to fill
out claims, if you insured it.

Buying local, you have the service, you can get it the same day, and
don't have the hassles associated with purchasing from someone you don't
know.

I bought my used blue and white from MacTown and didn't have to pay
anything for shipping and got it the same day. I haven't had any
problems with it at all.

MacGroup: meeting

2003-10-22 Thread Steven Brown

They could also offer products that are being presented and sell them to
the members along with other items and accessories.

Another problem to consider is parking?

Maybe the times that we meet, the streets wouldn't be as crowded?

I am game if everyone else is.

It would be great to have meetings there. Also, it would be a great
 time for
Mactown to strut some of their stuff. Also, I was not aware they took
 the
Apple Loan. It might be good to just have one meeting devoted to
 Mactown:
products they offer, possible demos, financing available, sales events,
 discounts, etc. Just a thought.

About the parking, there are quite a number of spaces in the back of
Mactown, and then there is the Chicken man right across the street with
lots of parking spaces for those who need some sort of sustenance or -
at least a cup of coffee before the intellectually challenging
event-- Thus far at Mactown they haven't received me with a cup of
coffee in their hand as a welcoming gesture. Neither did they roll out
the red carpet as I had requested ! But I am always greeted with a big
hug which makes up for the lack of red. I always had to get my coffee
from the chicken place across the street. That's why I know it is
 there.
