Re: mudding on the mac

2010-12-09 Thread Eric Oyen
for the most part, irc and mac with voiceover isn't very good either. I have
had some success with Xchat aqua and voiceover using growl, but join more than
one chan or be in a busy chan and forget it. too much noise and no
intelligibility. I have yet to find a way to get growl to use a faster read
speed than the slow setting. I have alex (the main voice) set to over 300 wpm
but using growl, it sits at a paltry 75 wpm. far too slow for my needs.

Re: producing braille on the mac

2010-12-09 Thread erik burggraaf
That would be louis. The only drawback is that you need a serial or bluetooth
embosser. USB and network are not supported, and since there are no serial
ports on current macs and there aren't that many bluetooth enabled embossers,
you have to get a little creative.

Re: Dropbox.

2010-12-09 Thread erik burggraaf
Hi, there should be a dropbox folder in your home folder. Simply copy the file
and paste it into your dropbox folder.
If you want to make the file public, place it in /home/dropbox/public.

Then you can press control option shift m on the file in your public folder and
bring up the context menu.
Arrow down to dropbox, and press right arrow.
Arrow down to copy public link and press enter.
Then you can paste the public link anywhere you like.

having to open a window with command+n or something like that.
Can anyone offer me a workaround? Or perhaps an alternative to dragon

be easier to use the keyboard if possible.

 Thanks for any tips.

Re: Talking Communities Chat Client for the Mac

2010-12-09 Thread Jim Fettgather
You can download the Mac client here,

Now, there are two things that need to be namually configured. One,
you need to put in the IP address of the room, and the room ID.
Those two pieces of info are displayed on the same page as the
download link for the Mac.
It works well, but there are definitely some accessibility features
that seem to be missing.
Thanks.

Re: Talking Communities Chat Client for the Mac

2010-12-09 Thread Jim Fettgather
So, on the same page as the Mac download, the following info appears
for the Accessible world auditorium room.

Here is the info that you need to connect using our TC Conference for MAC:

Server: 74.208.96.53
Username: enter your name
Password: enter your password (if available)
Room ID: rs5affc3cfa191

Also, I had to restart the Mac, or restart the program, I don't recall
which, but it's probably a good idea just to be safe and restart the
computer, and then, the program was able to log into the room just
fine.

Re: European Carriers Claim Apple Should Pay for Network Infrastructure

2010-12-09 Thread Ruud Bemelmans
I don't think this is such a bad idea, because it keeps reinforcing the
industry. If Apple, google and other companies that produce smart phones
want to keep up the current success of said phones, then investing in
the networks will eventually result in an even bigger success rates. If
the carriers can't maintain the network, the sale of smart phones will
dwindle and the carriers as well as the smart phone producers will have
a bad time all around. The big question however is, if this goes
through, how much extra costs will that generate for the customers? But
to be fair, that's always the question with changes in various industries.

On a short of-topic note: I didn't think the few politics-related
messages were relevant to the subject as politics didn't get mentioned
anywhere in the article or in the on-topic replies. I'm just mentioning
this as this is an international list with god knows how many people
from various backgrounds and politics is one of those subjects that
always causes trouble in such a varied group. (just my opinion)

Re: mudding on the mac

2010-12-09 Thread Ruud Bemelmans
I also tried mud walker and telnet today, just because it would be nice
to not be tied to windows for mudding. Mud walker had all buttons and
menus accessible, but at one point it just kept giving me mud walker
busy, busy, busy, which got annoying rather quickly. Telnet connected
at least and told me some stuff, but it didn't scroll on properly, which
wasn't super, but at least it gave me more to work with than Savitar and
Mud walker. I haven't messed with options in telnet, so that might be
something to look into.

Peoples thoughts on adress panel!

2010-12-09 Thread Colin M
Hi All!
Marlaina's question about adding names from her address book!
Got me wondering do you all or just some of you think it might be a good idea
to add something like option+1 to add to the [to field] and option+2 for [cc
field] and of course option+3 for [bcc field]
I thought of command+1, 2 and 3 but I do not know if that would muck around
with the Address book because Ab uses command +1 and 2 already!
Because this is not a accessible issue can people give ideas to Apple?

Re: European Carriers Claim Apple Should Pay for Network Infrastructure

2010-12-09 Thread Scott Granados
But you're wrong here, Apple Google and the others already to invest in these
companies. They pay their Internet bills. Sure Google has a huge
infrastructure and does a lot of settlement free traffic exchanging but they
buy a ton of pipes, transport, facilities, buildings, on and on and they do buy
transit so pay per packet for traffic not directly connected. Same with Apple
and the other companies you mention. Apple pays Internap per megabit just like
everyone else does. It's not Apple's job to pay some European carrier because
they can't manage their own infrastructure. It's like saying I should have to
pay Cox Cable money because I use a lot of service from Comcast. That's just
silly.

Re: European Carriers Claim Apple Should Pay for Network Infrastructure

2010-12-09 Thread Scott Howell
Scott I could not agree more. If these carriers did not know what they were
getting into, that is not Apple's fault and believe me they knew there is no
question about that. THey are just looking for handouts. And for those who want
to continue to argue in favor for the carriers, the carriers could simply stop
carrying the iPHone and then they can cry about the subscribers they would not
continue to attract.

burning DVD's on the Mac

2010-12-09 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay,

I am convenced that Simply Burns rules for CD burning; but, what about burning
DVD's. Let's say I've got some videos I make and I want to burn them on to a
DVD which will play in my DVD player. What APP would I use to do this? IF I
wanted to make multiple copies of a CD using Simply Burns, is this possible?
I'm guessing that the copy one feature will not allow this. Thanks.

Sincerely,
The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!!

Re: Dropbox.

2010-12-09 Thread erik burggraaf
Hi, that's a focus issue. Sometimes it works, and other times you have to
interact right down to the file name, rout the mouse with control option
command f5 and then either press control option shift M or control mouse
button. For some reason I have had really bad focus problems in that folder,
but it only applies to that folder as far as I can tell.

Hope this helps.

Perhaps you could send this thread to the developer. Mention the fact that
tagging objects in the API is a very straight forward process and that word of

Maximizing Windows?

2010-12-09 Thread Dan Roy
I was working with my wife who is fully sighted. I was trying to get her to
visually describe some images on a site. She was continuously frustrated
because, Finder was covering up most of the web sites window. She couldn't
figure out what to do about that. Meanwhile, VO was performing just fine and I
had no problems reading the page. So, is there a way to maximize the safari
window. I have been through the Safari menus and there doesn't seem to be a
way to do this from the keyboard. I am obviously missing something.

Also, on a related note. Has anyone experienced having windows or dialogues
opened that VO doesn't acknowledge. My wife was telling me about a dialogue
that was up for force quitting an application. I had done that a few days ago,
and, the application did close. However, apparently, the dialogue was still
lingering. VO didn't acknowledge this and, command-tabbing through the various
opened windows didn't find it either. Any suggestions?

Also, on a related note. Has anyone experienced having windows or dialogues
opened that VO doesn't acknowledge. My wife was telling me about a dialogue
that was up for force quitting an application. I had done that a few days
ago, and, the application did close. However, apparently, the dialogue was
still lingering. VO didn't acknowledge this and, command-tabbing through the
various opened windows didn't find it either. Any suggestions?

Re: Handbreak and backing up a Disney Movie

2010-12-09 Thread Justin Kauflin
I can't say how it is to burn the DVD, Up, but I've noticed that some Disney
movies have a sort of protection against burning them to the computer.
Disney has a funny way of dealing with burning dvd's to the computer.
When using handbreak, you can choose between a bunch of different titles to
have as the source. Disney basically makes a bunch of dummy files that look
like they might be the actual movie, but are just jumbled files. What you'll
want to do is find out the title by playing the dvd in the default DVD player.
When the movie is playing, go to the go menu and scroll down to the title sub
menu. the correct title to use in handbreak will be checked. If you select
the wrong title, the dvd will import out of order.

Hope that helps some,
Justin

You can also press command-option-h to hide all the other windows except the
one you're working in. By the way, you can press command-h to hide the current
window.

Re: Unzipping Files and Skype Recorder

2010-12-09 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Sorry then. Maybe you should ask for help from Apple. Normally Macs can unzipp
zip archives. Maybe the file is broken or you've installed a program what
disables the function, maybe accidentally.

 Hi Ezzy,

is it really a zip archive or maybe rar? Normally Snow Leopard can extract
zip files out of the box. Just set your cursor on it and press CMD + O or VO
+ Space. Do you get an error message?

 Hi Ezzy,

just press VO + Space on the zip-archive. Then you've got an unzipped folder
with the music. From there you can import the files to iTunes.

For recording Skyp calls and many other things you can use Audio Hijack Pro:
