Re: ultralingual dictionary

2012-08-17 Thread Andrew Lamanche
When you open Ultralingua, you have your toolbar first with which you can
interact, and in there you will find to the far right your search field. This
is where you type your search item, and you press enter to activate search.

To the right of the toolbar, there's a table of various dictionary functions. I
mostly use the dictionary function, second from the top., so I have it set to
that. But theres also conjugation, and some more which I am not familiar with.
In the previous versions of Ultralingua you would interact with the table to
choose the function you wish. I notice in this latest upgrade that every time I
choose a new function, I am thrown back into the search field, and I have to
come out of the toolbar to check which functions is selected. This is
potentially a bug and I will be reporting it to Ultralingua.

To the right of the table, you have a popup button where you choose the
dictionary which you wish to be active. THen to the right a reverse dictionary
direction button, i.e. English-French or french English, and then to the right
of that you have an unlabelled button which is actually "add entry" button. You
can label it with Vo+/.

Then you have html section where your results appear.

The way I work with the dictionary is like this: command+f will take me
straight to search box. Hit enter after typing your entry.
Stop interacting with the toolbar and use fn+vo+right arrow to quickly move to
the rightmost edge of the screen, then only one or two presses of vo+left arrow
to land on html section,
Interact to read your results with vo+arrow keys.

Hope this helps.

Hello.

You have to do the same with IOS. I just turned on screen curtain, restarted
my iPhone, and screen curtain was off. I'm running the latest version of IOS 5.

Re: Menu Tab For Facebook

2012-08-17 Thread Brian Fischler
Sorry, I should have posted that I only installed the program after I
installed Mountain Lion. Regarding the program not coming up I found
that you had to hit VO and hold the space bar down to get the program
to open. Additionally, if you click Control F it launches the program,
I don't think I had to enable that shortcut.

Does anyone know what might be popping up on the screen that I am not
able to interact with, and is not being read? It seems to say untitled
under system prefs if you select VO and F1 to pull up the item
chooser. Thanks

Re: Podcast App for Mac

2012-08-17 Thread Esther
Hi Mark,

I use a couple of AppleScripts to speed up playback of tracks selected
in iTunes and return to normal speed. iTunes itself doesn't support
variable speed playback, but QuickTime Player, which it uses, does. So
the scripts just pass the current position in the track to QuickTime
Player, with the speed boost, and then back to iTunes at normal speed,
so the track position can be kept. I've used this method for several
years. However, it's the older version of QuickTime, which is now
dubbed "QuickTime 7", that has the easy access to A/V controls of
pitch, speed, etc. that was used for the scripts, and while this still
works (and provides different playback options -- all accessible
through the GUI with VoiceOver), it's no longer included by default
with operating system distributions starting with Lion; you have to
download it separately.

If you're interested, I posted instructions on the Mac-access list
earlier this year, and you can read the post in the mail archives:
Speeding up podcasts on the Mac:
http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access%40mac-access.net/msg08057.html

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: captures and firefox question

2012-08-17 Thread Teresa Cochran
Actually, the Firefox nightly build is adequate enough for solving capchas and
doing a little web browsing. The current stable releases do not work.

Here's a link to the nightly builds:
http://nightly.mozilla.org

Once you install this, you will have to go to the extensions tab in preferences
and install WebVisum. If you don't have a WebVisum account yet, you might want
to set that up with a different browser on its webpage first. Firefox nightly
works well for the purpose of solving capchas independently, but it's far from
ready for prime-time browsing, and requires some tweaking and patience.

Re: V M Ware Question

2012-08-17 Thread Sean Murphy
Hi,

Remember that Mac does not have a insert key. If you require this key, then you
will have to modify the keyboard within Windows, VMWare or on the Mac to permit
this to occur. There have been many posts on this on different lists discussing
how.

Re: Two questions about virtual machines and a brief intro

2012-08-17 Thread Sean Murphy
Hello Paul,

No problems. I use the Focus 40 USB version with no problems. If you don't
connect the USB device to VMWare, then the Guess will not recognise it. Ideally
you should do this while the OS is loading.

captures and firefox question

2012-08-17 Thread Kirsten Edmondson
Hi,
Someone recently told me that the best way to solve captures is to get Firefox
and webvisum. However, I have thought, for a long time, that FF is inaccessible
for the Mac. Is this still the case?
Is this actually the best way to solve captures? If so, when I download both
applications, what do I need to do to get them to work together? If Firefox is
not fully accessible, how do I make it as accessible as possible?
Thanks in advance,
Kirsten

Re: Saving Files in TextEdit

2012-08-17 Thread Veronica Elsea
Steve, when I unchecked documents under my icloud preferences, that
weird wizard did indeed go away. This also changed the default save to
documents folder, rather than icloud.
Now, here's the thing I wish would come back. When the save dialog
appeared, you used to be able to just hit command-d for don't save. That
seems to have gone away. Bummer! I did send a note to feedback asking
for this one back. Even my sighted hubby misses this shortcut.

Thanks.

App Store on the iPhone

2012-08-17 Thread Shen
Hi everyone,
Wonder if anyone is having this issue on your iPhone.
1. Opne the App Store, search for an app, anything will do.
2. Open the app to get more info. Tap on the "tell a friend" link.
3. An email will be open. Tap on "add contacts".
4. You will be in Contacts, but VoiceOver will not speak any of your
contacts. At least this is happening with me.
Anyone else having the same issue?

Re: Looking for the link for the list archives

2012-08-17 Thread Esther
Hi Kirsten,

The Mail Archive site for this list is at:
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries@googlegroups.com/

Since you're also on the viphone list, you can also use the links that
appear at the bottom of those posts to the mail archive site if you
need to find this info again. Just change the "viphone" in the
address to "macvisionaries" to get to the archive pages for this list.

Another way to find this page is to go to the main Mail Archive page
-- that's with "mail-archive.com" written with a hyphen between "mail"
and "archive", and no "s" after "archive" -- and type in the name of
the list you want in the search box. When you press "Return" you'll
get first links to mailing lists that match your search, and then
posts that match your search.
http://www.mail-archive.com

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

tables in textedit?

2012-08-17 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I made a new document in textedit, planning to insert a table. When I tried, a
couple odd things happened.
First, I entered rows, but once I entered columns, everything in the table
dialog became dimmed, yet the table seems to have been inserted.
Second, vo could not see the table. It read everything as "new lines", but
never announced a table of any sort.

How can I use tables in textedit with vo? Does Pages have this same problem?
I'm considering getting it if I can use tables and other features, but don't
want to if vo will still refuse to see tables I insert. Thanks.

I tried changing it back to list view multiple, multiple times, but it wasn't

to fix itself. I'll keep a watch on it for future orneriness, though. That was
very odd, and I was afraid it was broken

switch views, or find the toolbar or the view

command-control-f to put Mail in full-screen. Go to your mailboxes list and
find the mailbox you want to move. Press VO-comma. You'll hear a message from
VO that the item is marked for drag and drop. Next, go to the favorites bar and
interact with it. Press VO-period. You will hear a sound and a message
indicating the item is being dragged. (You can also navigate to an item in the
favorite bar and press VO-less-than or VO-greater-than to place your folder
before or after the item under the VO cursor.

The other method is very similar, only the keystrokes are different. Use
VO-shift-command-space to "mouse up" on the item, and then use the same
keystroke to place it where you want it.

I find that if one method doesn't work, the other one will.

Incidentally, if you have a magic trackpad, you can use a three-finger drag to
move items.

Re: Error Google drive folder is missing

2012-08-17 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

The Sign Out is in the Preferences but if it's dimmed, then you'll have issues.
Maybe you should remove the Google Drive folder from your Home Directory, the
folder itself. You shouldn't lose anything as it's all with Google anyway.
I'm wondering if something is corrupt in the folder itself. You should also go
into your System Prefs, in the Users & Groups pane, Login Items and remove
Google Drive from the startup items. This will make it easier to troubleshoot
as it won't always be trying to start on login. In this situation, when you
open Google Drive from your Applications folder, it should be opening for the
first time and maybe it'll ask for your credentials.

Looking for the link for the list archives

2012-08-17 Thread Kirsten Edmondson
Hi,
I seem to have misplaced the link which was sent out about these list archives.
Recently, I tried to get into google groups, to read some emails from earlier
in the year. However, I was unable to access the Googlegroups site properly. I
think this is because it has been changed.
Is there a link to access Google groups as it was? Or is there a link which
will take me directly to the archives, and thus I can search easier?
I have a feeling that it is
Www.mail-archives.com/Macvisionaries.Googlegroups.com
Is this correct? Will this get me where I want to go?
Many thanks,
Kirsten.

Re: Safari questions with ML

2012-08-17 Thread Andrew Lamanche
If a table is long, to get to the first cell in the first row, press fn+vo+left
arrow. To get to the last cell of the table in the last row, press fn+vo+right
arrow.

Also, if you have a few tables present, to move to a table on a page press
vo+command+t. You can do it repeatedly to move quickly from table to table. To
go to a previous table, press shift+vo+command+t.

Hopes this helps.

Hello Paul,

This is wrong. I can use Focus 40 FS braille display in VMWare fusion with
no problems. How are you connecting? The issue could be related to the
method of connection.

if you are successfully connecting to the Mac and then you need check your

windows doesn't see the relevant method you are using to connect, then all

Talking of Quicktime, how accessible is this on the Mac? My guess is

Re: Error Google drive folder is missing

2012-08-17 Thread Eric Caron
Hi Tim,

Thanks for this tip. I'll keep trying now that I know it is working
for you.

I went to the extras menu for Google Drive and most of the options
including preferences are dimmed. I did press quit but that is not the same as
signing out. I'm not sure where to sign out and it has not asked me for my
credentials when signing in.

Currently the folder is visible in my home directory, same level as Dropbox and
Desktop and Downloads.

Any additional tips very much appreciated.

Where do I sign out, for example?

Re: I just switched back to Safari from Chrome, here's why

2012-08-17 Thread Chris Blouch
Yes, but then you have to turn VO off or you'll have two screen readers
speaking. Having to turn VO off and on every time I flip into and out of
Chrome is a non-starter. Most people don't just live in their browser.
Chromevox makes a lot of sense on platforms which don't already have a
screen reader so on the Mac it's just odd.

Error Google drive folder is missing

2012-08-17 Thread Eric Caron

Hello listers,

If anyone out there is successfully using Google Drive with Mountain
Lion, I'd be interested in knowing. I have updated two macs and in both cases
I get the message in the subject of this email. "Error, Google Drive folder is
missing."

I did have some trouble with Dropbox on one of the two machines and one worked
immediately. It took some time and lots of experimenting but I got Dropbox
working now on both machines.

With Google Drive I've tried every trick I can think of and nothing has worked.

I have tried to find the latest version as at one point it said I was using a
out dated version and needed to get the new one. It didn't seem to tell me
where to get it though.

So I found it with Google and then tried to install with no luck.

I then tried increasingly drastic steps finally completely shutting down and
Deleting the app. I then deleted the folder from my Mac. I then installed
again and yes the same error message shows up in the Mountain Lion Extra's
menu.

I'm hoping someone can at least confirm Google Drive works in Mountain Lion and
if possible give some tips as to how they got it working.

Re: Saving Files in TextEdit

2012-08-17 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys
Yes, I do it all the time. I have my files saving in the desktop, and I have
done this for quite sometime. You just tab around or press Bo right arrow
around. I have found that the VO Space is particularly bad in this particular
menu. However, the return key seems to work better. When you hear the computer
say iCloud, it is a pop-up button. Press Vo space )more times if you have to(
and then go down arrow for your menu choices. Mine gives me the choice of the
desktop and other folders on my computer.

Are you talking about the view menu in ML mail? My first item is message

 How weird is that?

Re: Audio Highjack Pro

2012-08-17 Thread Chris
Yes, please let us know, this is one program I plan to try and
eventually purchase as a substitute for Total Recorder on the other
platform. Thanks!

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if anyone on the list is good at using Audio Highjack Pro.
I have recently purchased it with the intention of using to produce a series
of Mac and iPhone how to podcasts. Can I use this program to record my voice as
well as the Voice Over from my computer at the same time, or will I have to
record them separately and then join them together post production? I hope
that I can record both my own voice from my microphone and the system sound at
the same time.

Does anyone know of any good tutorials for this program?

Thank you,
Scott

I'm not aware of any such wizard happening every time I open Text edit but then
again, I've left it running for some time so I have been just command-tabbing
into it. I haven't used the editor a lot lately so Haven't determined if there
is a way to change the default save directory.

Re: Two questions about virtual machines and a brief intro

2012-08-17 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
I must also add that if you want to connect using bluetooth (as I connect my
Eurobraille via bluetooth in Fusion latest version) there is support within
fusion to connect your debice virtually but you have to locate the bluetooth
settings in windows and connect your braille display. Then in jaws you have to
make sure you locate the correct port so your braille display is shown there.
It's a while since I did it but I'm also sure that you have to tell Fusion that
your bluetooth receiver that the Mac uses to make sure that it's shown in
fusion settings in the USB devices.

Hope that isn't too complicated.

Kawal.

Re: Two questions about virtual machines and a brief intro

2012-08-17 Thread Sean Murphy
Hello Paul,

This is wrong. I can use Focus 40 FS braille display in VMWare fusion with no
problems. How are you connecting? The issue could be related to the method of
connection.

if you are successfully connecting to the Mac and then you need check your
Fusion setup. The hardware is still controlled by the Mac and Fusion. If
windows doesn't see the relevant method you are using to connect, then all bets
are off.

Hi,

the person doesn't need to be in your contacts. You would need to type there
phone number or, e-mail address they use for iMessages in the to field. If
this person is in your contacts, and have multiple entries, after typing in
their name, press the down arrow to choose the entry you want to use for that
person and press VO spacebar. BTW, there is no send button. When done typing
your message, just hit enter. I'm assuming we're talking about messages on the
Mac right?

My first mac

2012-08-17 Thread Chris

Good morning all.
Ladies and gentleman, this is to let you know I have ordered my first
mac, the Macbook Pro 13 inch without Retina Display, from
www.ebuyer.com! It will come with OS X Lion, but apparently can be
freely upgraded to Mountain Lion.
Hope you like the choice I have made. Will no doubt have many questions
and hours of fun and frustration grins. But judging by what I heard last
night on Skype I was completely sold. Should be here within the next 5
working days from today.

Good or what!
Chat soon Chris.
