[MOPO] AS OF JUNE 1st, EBAY DEMANDS THAT ALL PACKAGES SENT HAVE TRACKING NUMBERS

Hi, Everyone,
 
  I just received notification from eBay that as of June 1st,  all packages 
sent out by Sellers will be  required
to have a tracking number...all packages.  Even some  guy in Podunk U.S.A. 
who sends out 100 packages a day, each one containing a  near-worthless 
trinket he's sold for 50 cents as of June 1st will be  forced by the 
powers-that-be at eBay to spend 70 cents extra per  package to the Post Office 
for a 
friggin' tracking number.
Let's see...that'll only cost Mr. Seller from Podunk an extra 70  bucks a 
day...and the trinket he's sending out is only worth 50  cents!
  I don't know if other sellers agree with me, but I think eBay is  truly 
crossing the line here.  It's one thing if they raise their rates  (which 
they've done many times).  I can begrudgingly accept that.  But  to issue me a 
decree that I must provide a tracking number to  them for every package I 
ship as of June 1st makes me think  that eBay is getting to be more and more 
like Big Brother every day.  I'd  like to hear if other sellers on eBay agree 
with me or not.  If you  do agree, I'd suggest you give eBay a call and let 
them know  what you think about it.  I just got off the phone after making 
a call to  eBay.  The airhead on the other end was obviously lock-step with 
eBay's  latest plan.  Of course, in their email they emphasize how many  
rewards
they plan to give us as sellers, treating us like a bunch of imbeciles who  
aren't fully aware of how transparent
their B.S. has become.  Hey, you can dip a turd in chocolate and cover  it 
with a rainbow of sprinkles, but it's still a friggin' turd.  (Sorry  about 
such a crude metaphor, but as you can tell, I'm not pleased with  this...)

   Hey, I have nothing against tracking numbers.  In fact, I  use them 
quite a bit.  The thing that bothers me is how an edict is being  passed down 
by 
eBay. I think the decision should be up to the seller.   Guess I just don't 
like being told what to do by a company that already is  taking so much of 
my money...

  I just spoke with a rep at PayPal and she said that they do  not provide 
a free tracking number if a package is sent through them,  whether it's sent 
by Priority or not.  She said the fee through them is  exactly the same as 
you pat through the Post Office, which is 70 cents.

As of yesterday, using the feature when you click  on items sold on EBAY
and click add tracking link that is on every sold  item listed,   I have 
been
able to enter in both kinds of customs  forms numbers (for first class, the
smaller form, or the larger form for  priority) on overseas sales and
seemingly that satisfies the tracking  information issue.   

Indeed  tracking using customs  form numbers only tells you when it has
arrived at the overseas  destination, and when released from customs.   IT
DOES NOT TELL  YOU WHEN IF EVER DELIVERED TO ADDRESSEE.   This may  not
ultimately win a dispute because signature wasn't required on delivery  but

they emphasize how many rewards  they plan to give us as sellers, treating 
us
like a bunch of imbeciles who  aren't fully aware of how transparent their
B.S. has become.  Hey, you  can dip a turd in chocolate and cover it with a
rainbow of sprinkles, but  it's still a friggin' turd.  (Sorry about such a
crude metaphor, but  as you can tell, I'm not pleased with this...)

At a Fourth of July celebration in 1985 (I believe that was the year) in  
Palos Verdes, CA, Jimmy Stewart and Frank Capra were scheduled to appear.   
At the time, I already had a Rear Window insert...and went up to Hollywood 
and  bought a You Can't Take It With You lobby card for the occasion, hoping 
to have  both Stewart and Capra sign it.  Unfortunately, Mr. Capra's wife was 
sick  and he couldn't be there...so I ended up having Jimmy Stewart sign 
both pieces  (I still have the Rear Window insert).  What I remember most 
about Jimmy  Stewart was how incredibly tall (and old) he seemed.  I was quite 
nervous,  fumbling around with the special pen I'd brought with me, dropping 
it a couple  of times. He merely signed his name in the poster's background. 
 Hey,  I really don't care if his autograph affects to value of the insert 
one way or  the other.
The fact is...I actually met Jimmy Stewart and talked with  him for a 
minute or two.  I suppose his autograph 
is proof of what happened on that Fourth of July, but the thrill of meeting 
 him means more to me than whatever value the poster might have.  It's the  
only poster I've ever had autographed. But this was Jimmy  Stewart!  Truly 
a memorable momentdidn't cost me anything  except a bad case of nerves...

This is 2012, not 1940 or 1950.  The celebrities realize a high  percentage 
of the autographs they provide will be sold on eBay.  I think  the selling 
of autographs is much more of a phenomena now than it was even 20 or  30 
years ago.  The majority of the stars I've seen at these shows have  been out 
of work for decades, aren't making residuals off of whatever series  they 
might have been in and no doubt need the money they charge for autographs  to 
pay their bills.

Throughout the mid to late 80's, I had innumerable run-ins with Noel  
Schiff.  On one occasion, he'd committed to purchase a Return Of Dr. X  
(Bogart) 1/2 Sheet from me for $1600 (as far as I recall, that was the  
amount).  
At the time, I was between jobs and needed the money to pay  my rent for the 
month.  Noel assured me he'd have the money to me by  the 1st.  Well...the 
1st came and went...so I gave Noel the benefit of the  doubt and didn't call 
him till the 4th.  When I got him on the phone, I  remember asking him 
frantically if he'd sent the $1600 he'd promised me...that I  desperately 
needed 
it to pay my rent.
  Oh.., he replied, matter-of-factly, I forgot to tell youI  decided 
that I don't want the poster...
  Of course, I went ballistic, calling him many, many choice  namesthen 
wrapping it up with the statement:
  I never, ever want to hear your voice on my phone  again!
  The only positive thing that came out of that entire scenario  back in 
1986, maybe 1987...is that good old Noel at least honored my request and  I 
never, ever spoke with him again
   An interesting side-note...I was wandering  around Google and discovered 
that Noel Schiff apparently had an alter-ego  named Chicago Slim who was 
the front man for a blues band in  Chicago.  Here's a link to Noel and his

Frank lives in L.A.---in the Valley.  I believe he appeared at a  Comic-Con 
in San Diego a couple of years ago.
He's written a screenplay about the history of Mad Magazine and its founder 
 William Gaines and the last I heard from him (a year or so ago) he was  
frustrated that something was hanging up its production. Not sure of its 
status  at this point...

  I'm sure those words were written by Frank Jacobs, a friend of  mine and 
a movie poster collector as well (mostly 30's  + 40's musicals).  Everyone 
remembers the cartoonists at Mad---  Don Martin, Sergio Arigones
and so many others---but the names of the writers from the early years of  
Mad are generally forgotten.
It's really unfortunate because Frank and the other writers came up with  a 
ton of brilliant material. Frank was the one who usually wrote  song 
parodies like the one you posted. A truly great talent and a really nice  man
