generic radio jingles

Hi listers, and happy holidays to all.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place to acquire generic radio
jingles, without specific call letters, but saying things like
sixties' gold, or that was then and this is now, etc? Thanks, in

Re: DM-4 user's Manual

2010-10-09 Thread russell Bourgoin

Hi,

I've got a unit arriving on Tuesday, or possibly today. If
there is a disc in it with a manual, I'll make you a copy in whatever
format, text, doc, docx, rtf, you'd like. If no disk with a manual
is part of the package, then I too will be in search of the
information. Please keep me posted. Oh, by the way, the unit is
available with a free set of binaural microphones from the sound
professionals for only $299. I bought two 8gig micro sd cards for
mine in the same order, totaling around $359.00! Not a bad deal from
what I've seen poking around.

Hi John,

I listen daily to music from my computer on my home stereo

solution for years. I can even listen to my music and podcasts in a

I've heard a lot of good things re: the ape lossless

some snooping around the web today and found that there is a plug-in
that will make winamp play ape files. Someone from anothe list
mentioned the vlc player plays this material. I'm wondering if
there's any software that works on converting these files to wav
files, which I very well know how to encode to mp3's. I'd be happy

play in Windows Media Player. The other side of this is that in
Winamp Preferences, File types, the checkbox that is labeled Show
Winamp in the context menus in Windows Explorer is permanently
unchecked. I can check it, press Close, immediately reopen
Preferences, and it's gone back to unchecked again. What have I done,
and how is it undone?

cell phone recommendations, anyone?

2009-08-06 Thread russell Bourgoin

Hi listers,

I hope that this is not off topic for this list, but my cell
phone died after four years and I'll need to replace it. Its so old
that at the att store here in the sticks of Gardner Mass, they told
me that they no longer could replace the battery a year ago when I
first started having problems. I got a new battery on the internet,
at ebay, and thusly extended the phone's life for quite
cheaply. However, now I think its about time to get a new one.

So, I am an a t and t customer. What would be a good phone
to get. I've been using the talks software, but, I think that is not
transferrable. Who can help. I thought I'd never get a cell phone
millenia ago, but having done so, now I can't live without one. I
don't think I want to pay for data plans and all, but, what works as
a solution these days. Thanks, in advance, for any ideas!

Re: Changing Encoders in Easy CDDA Extractor

2009-06-22 Thread russell Bourgoin

Hi,

I'm using e z c d extractor version 11. I remember
downloading a file that included alternative codex for many of their
decoders. You just had to unzip the codex pack and copy the files
into the program files, ezcdex folder, overwriting the files that
were there already. I would think you could copy your encoder in
that directory after renaming the encoder that is being replaced,
then name you replacement what the old one was called. That should
work, but if it doesn't, delete the new file and rename the old one
back to what it was. Good luck.

what to do about sound taxi

2009-06-04 Thread russell Bourgoin

Hi listers,

I recently upgraded my system with a new mother board,

match the old stuff, since the machine code is now different. So,
when i tried to use the program, it would only convert 30 second
pieces of the source files. I can't find a number to call and have

Re: Wireless Keyboards and Wireless Headphones

2008-04-04 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi,

I'll vouch for the keyboard! I bought one from Jerry
several years ago now. I had a minor problem, the transmitter quit
working, but after complaining to gyration, they sent me a new one at
no charge!

I use mine in several different places, using my fm transmitter and a
radio to hear the screen, reading email in bed, controlling music
apps from the driveway, looking up phone numbers from the sunroom,
and on and on.

Rusty

I've sold quite a few of Gyration 100 foot range RF Wireless keyboards
with only two or three minor complaints. It cost's $199.
For headphones I've been using Advent AW-770 for seven years. They are
rated at 100 feet also but I've never got more than 30.

Re: playlist editor

2008-04-04 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi Peter and all,

I use notepad to do this, along with the windows tool,
sendto, one of the windows toys. Send to is added to your context
menu, so, when you right click on a file you'd like in a playlist,
choose send to and then clipboard as name. Press enter and the
entire filename goes to your clipboard. Now just press control-v in
an open notepad window, and the entire filename appears in your
document. Save the file, when completed, to a filename with a pls or
m3u extention and there you have it. I hope this helped!

 Hi,

I think this one is called zenstone plus.

I have partial vision and found that the stone works sort of like this. I
say sort of, to cover my uncertainty, but this has been my experience:

Hold zen plus so the flat screen faces you and is on the left side.

On top left is an audio out jack. Bottom left is the USB connector.

Top right has a rocker switch. Press this on its right side and hold it to
turn it on. I'm not quite certain what pressing it on the left side does.

I often found that, after not pressing buttons for a while, the first key
press is merely a wake up call and does nothing, so keep that in mind.

Now, facing you on the right is the more or less standard joy control, a
circle with a button in its center.

The center button brings up a menu. When this menu is active the right and
left edges of the circle move thru things like file play, radio, recorder,
and who knows what else. But the files play mode I believe is
 furthest left.
When you think you have the mode you want, press the center button to
 confirm your choice.

So, assuming you start playing files, press the center button, then press
the right edge of the ring to move to radio, then press center
 again and the
radio should be playing. Now use the left and right buttons, you
 know what I
mean, to tune to the station you want. Experiment with this,
 because tapping
gets different results from pressing and holding, I think.

Now, to get back to playing files, press that center button. Remember, you
might have to tap it twice because the first tap just says hello to the
unit. Once it wakes up, press the left button and confirm with center.

As for the other modes, I'm not going there. I only know that I've
accidentally recorded my voice but cannot pin down how. I gave that unit to
 a sighted friend.

I have the 2 gig model with a tiny speaker and 2 of the 1 gig zens, none of
which have screens and are all friendlier to people not looking at a
 display.

5.32 just wouldn't install. A lot of the stuff from the program was missing
such as the input and output uner preferences, so I went back to 5.08.
I keep getting an illegal operation every time I exit. It says the
instruction at, and then mentions a bunch of numbers references memory.
And I have to hit the OK button. What versions are people running?
This now makes the 6th time I have uninstalled it. Am I the only one who
has had this issue?
Also, when I get down to skin support, it freaks out when it seems modern
skins. I then have to exit out of it, go back in to preferences, then very
very quickly hit the down arrow button so it bipasses the modern skin, in
the hopes that I miss it. Is it meo or does this modern skin support not
get along with jfw?

RE: Looking for earbud suggestions

2008-01-14 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi,

I have some bose earbuds that I highly recommend to anyone
in the market for comfortable good sounding earbuds.
They cost $99 when I ordered them from bose.

Rusty

At 08:34 AM 1/11/2008, Cornell Ligon spake thusly:-

Hi,
I've got a few pair in mind and I think all three come with tips of
different sizes:
Bose - $99 a pair sound great, but a bit pricy,
JVC has a great pair that sound great, but cannot remember price,
and audio tecnica are also great sounding, but once again, cannot
remember price.

You can go to JR.com and view ear buds and compare the specs.

FYI:
sensitivty number implies loudness level meaning less volume to
drive the sound.
I have a pair of JVC noise cancellation full over the ear headphones
that have a sensitivity of 104 decibals; the audio tecnicas have a
sensitivity scale twice that meaning they drive sound much easier;
and I don't remember sensitivity of bose.
frequency level is the scale of low and high range sound - meaning
the loer number is that of bass response and higher number is that
of treble response; greater the range (e.g. 20 to 2000+) will give
greatest amount of sounds from the music being played.

and lower ohms level for quality of sound.

that is just a brief synopsis in simplest language. Hope not too
much info. I only offered the suggested site, because their prices
are excellent and it allows for comparison purposes. circuit City
and crutchfield also allows for comparisons, but their pricing is
that of the MSRP. Bose pricing is the same everywhere, because they
don't allow vendors to discount their products.

Hi, Lynn. I have the same problem, so I was happy to find earbuds made by
Phillips. I don't remember the model number, but I think that's what come
with the Braille+ made by the American Printing House for the blind. I'll
try and find that info out for you, if you like, or you can probably just
google earbuds made by Phillips. What I like about them is that they have
little covers on the buds themselves that I think are meant to
 make the buds
more comfortable. My ear canals are too small for most earbuds, but these
fit gently and snugly into my ears. I actually try not to wear earbuds too
often uness I'm traveling, because I know they really aren't so
 good for you
hearing. But these are pretty cool, and they don't sound so bad, either.

Hi everyone. There are a lot of things about me that are, well, just plain
weird. One of those weirdnesses is that I have had the extreme misfortune
to have been born with ear canals that seem to want to spit out earbuds.
  I
can't seem to keep the darned things in, and frankly, they drive me
  insane,
but my 16-year-old nephew tells me I'm committing a terrible fashion faux
pas by wearing my old clunky, but much more comfortable and in my humble
opinion much better-sounding, headphones that I used with my old portable
  stereo.

I'm hoping you guys can recommend a good brand of earbuds. I typically
  have
been using the ones that come with whatever digital player I buy, but I'm
not satisfied with them anyway, not just because they are constantly
  falling

Re: How to best or easiest way to Record Audio Cassettes to the PC?

2007-10-22 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi Brett,

I just saw this note today. I've gotten dreadfully behind
in reading emails.

I was thinking of putting up a tutorial on how to do this
entire operation. I'll be doing that this week.

When you originally record the tape, do it at 44.1
stereo. Then when you select each track of the stereo recording and
save them in new mono tracks, put them at 22 khtz. Sound forge warns
you that the file may play back at a different speed, and yes it
does, half speed to be precise, which is normal sounding speech. I
hope this helps!

Rusty
P.S. I'll let you know when I've got my tutorial ready!

At 04:30 PM 10/12/2007, Brett Boyer spake thusly:-
Hey Rusty
Ok that sounds good but a couple of questions. why 22.5 instead of 44 and
can record regular cassetes with high-speed dubbing on, then take the
chipmunk mp3 and slow it down? Is that possible?
Is there any thing else I should know before tackling this insane project.
I have to get rid of these thing so I can move to another town easily.
thanks for your help

Re: How to best or easiest way to Record Audio Cassettes to the PC?

2007-10-11 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi,

Yes, this is exactly what one can do with sound forge and
probably any decent sound editor. You record the 1 and 7 eighth
casette at 3 and a half. You, of course, hear one side forward and
the other backward at twice the normal speed. then you work with
each track separately, reversing if you need to, but you paste the
file into a mono 22.5 rather than 44.1 khz file. Hth.
Rusty

Another question. If any of you use 4 track tapes is it possible to put
these in the stereo and later reverse tracks on the right side of the stereo
field and make all tracks mono
Also is it possible to record at a high speed and slow down the recording
for the mp3?
thanks

Re: Nero 7 Question

2007-09-27 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi,

Once you have selected your files, pressing control-1 will
move them to the layout.

Rusty

Hi larry,

I don't have nero 7 so I really can't be sure that this will work for you.
however, In nero ultra 6 the nero explorer worked almost like the windows
explorer. From the tree view you could browse to the folder that had your
music in it and from the corresponding list of tracks you can simply select
the one's that you want to burn and copy them to the clipboard. then, press
the tab key to move the focus to the compilation window and paste them in.
Then after you put the tracks in the compilation window you could burn them.
Try that experiment and let me know what happens since I'm drawing at straws
here.

No answer on my last Nero question, so let's try it another way. Since I
can't figure out how to get Nero to build CDs through Windows Explorer,
  I've
dedicated a folder where I dump songs for CD burning for use with Nero's

down through the various folders that contain music, I can scroll through
each individual folder and read all info concerning each song. So I'm
wondering if maybe I'm doing something wrong. I have both Window-Eyes and

Re: some sam discoveries

2007-09-27 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi Steve,

I never did speak with paul as I got company and the time
flew by. I did figure out how to adde new music, though. In your
explanation below, you say to add a new category? What if the music
is all, say, country or rock. You, assumably, have the rest of that
type music in the appropriate categories, so I didn't understand your
advice re: creating a new one.
I ran the windows automatic graphics labeling program and,
only one new thing emerged. When on tracks, a right arrow renders
new folder 1. When you right click, or applications key or shift
f10, a context menus comes up. One of the choices is add. When it
is activated, you then get a choice of adding a file or a
directory. Just press enter on your choice and an explorer tree view
comes up to find the new material. Press enter on it and it gets imported.

When I went into program files, spacial audio, and then sam,
I found a m3u playlist called first time. Its what plays the files
and announcements when you first run the program. So, I'll be a real
happy camper when I can figure out how to load and play a predesigned
playlist, like, say smooth jazz for dinner music, etc.
I assume that if your music is properly tagged, when it gets
loaded into the database it goes into the appropriate
category. Problem is, not all music is properly tagged! Well, I'll
try to further explore the category scheme and its
usefulness. Mostly, though, I set up preset picked playlists to
match the occasion and encourage requests.

Thanks,
Rusty

and play a playlist, and how to add new music to the database. I'll

Paul is excellent, and, to be honest, Spacial's only blind customer
support person, and the blind part is associated with customer and
support agent both!

I thought I wrote and explained how to add music tracks to the
database. If not, here it is again, but a little abbreviated in case
it's a rerun.

1. Create a new category by right-clicking on any top-level category
and choosing New category from the menu.

2. Select that category (highlight it by moving through the list of
categories until the one you want speaks its name).

3. Add folders where your music is stored by pressing CTRL/D.

That's really all there is to it.

For other category options, place the mouse cursor on the category
name and right-click it, then select from the resultant menu.

some sam discoveries

2007-09-25 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi David,

When I first replied to this question from David, I didn't
know how to achieve making sam output come out of a separate sound
card from the software speech. Well, now I do know!

Just press alt-f to get into the file menu, and press enter
on config. Then right arrow once and use your screen reader's find
function to fin the word air. I use window-eyes for this, so I press
control-shift-f, type air and press enter, and my mouse lands on
airout. Mine says airout, click to configure. I press the left
click button, and then I can choose the device I wish to use for the
sam output.

I have communicated with sam support via e-mail and did
receive a reply. Paul asked which screen reader I used and mentioned
that window-eyes was the best for this program. He gave me a number

Re: Identifying the playing surface and non playing surface of a CD

2007-09-11 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi,

This is the method I use, too. Dvd's seem to have the ridge
on both sides, and, some cd's have no ridge at all.

Rusty

Ok. Here's the best way to identify the playing surface and non playing
surface of a CD. Braille readers will be able to use their finger tips but
for those who have sensitivity problems use your finger nail but very
carefully. Probably the easiest way to do this, if you are doing it for the
first time is to place the disc in the case. From the centre of the disc
slowly run your finger nail towards the outer edge of the disc. About half
an inch from the spindle hole you will find a deep groove, your finger nail
will pick this up. This is the non playing surface. Now if you turn the
disc up the other way and again slowly and gently run your finger nail from
the centre towards the outer edge about half an inch from the centre you
will find a ridge. Depending on the brand of the disc the ridge will vary
in how pronounced it is but it is there and It is a ridge. This is the
playing surface. Once you get used to feeling it then you will know at a
very brief touch which side is which. Walter.

Re: Accessible FM transmitters

2007-09-11 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi Jonathan,

I'm very interested in purchasing a unit as you describe in
your mail. When you say its priced on the high side, how high is
high? And, did they charge more for adding the features that you
requested? Is there a contact that you have to whom I could speak to
obtain a unit tricked out as is yours?

I do some dejaying at fish and gun club functions. Often I
bring a few large bose accoustic waves and place them outside facing
the say, family day activities. The cooking crew is off at the
barbecue pit and are out of range of the bose radios that I bring, so
they park their trucks around the pit and tune radios
in. Unfortunately, they are out of reach of the c crane transmitter,
altered as it is. Hence my interest in the unit you describe. Any
info is surely appreciated.

Rusty
At 10:19 AM 9/11/2007, Bob Seed spake thusly:-
couple of months ago, there was a great thread on this list about FM
transmitters. A user recommended the transmitter found at
http://www.wavemach.com.

I purchased one of these and am thrilled. The range is huge, the
construction solid, no nasty power hum, very good stereo separation, in
short, no complaints whatsoever. I got him to add a level control that
allows me to set the line in for the two RCA sockets, and he also added
small buttons for setting the frequency. It has a standard antenna socket at
the back and comes with a very solid little antenna, not just a wire.

So if you're looking for an FM transmitter, this one is definitely worth a
look, but it is on the high end of the price range. You definitely get what
you pay for though.

  Hi all,
I'm looking for a blind friendly FM transmitter that will work well with
PC, stereo, mp3 player, etc. It also needs to be able to broadcast 150+
feet in a household environment. This is for use in the USA, so the
broadcasting frequencies need to end in odd numbers.

I also would like the transmitter to have multiple power supply options
like car adapter, AC adapter, batteries, even USB.

I've seen one called MobileBlackBox v5000 fm transmitter, but it seems
to be out of stock and I don't know how easy it is to use. Also, I don't
know if it lives up to the range it claims. I know the one you can buy
at Radio Shack for about $30 isn't worth 2 cents.

Well, thanks in advance for your input and advise.

If it's anything like Broadcaster, it's a two-step process, made a lot
easier if all your albums are in one place, inside one folder.

1. Create a new category or use the one SAM created for you when you
installed it.

2. Locate that category in the category list and press CTRL/D, the

At 06:46 PM 8/28/2007, Steve Matzura spake thusly:-
Hi, Rusty:

Glad my quickie-how-to was helpful to you.

You don't have to press ESCAPE to enter the search window. Just start
typing something and it opens. The list of songs can be found by
tabbing past all the checkboxes. Don't back-tab (Shift + TAB), that
will only get you back to whatever window you were on before you
started searching. It's a little quirky that way--you just have to
press TAB about six times and then you hit the list.

There is a document that comes with SAM Broadcaster, I don't even know
if it's part of the DJ program or not, that references most of, it not
all, the functions in the PAL scripting language. That's what I used
as a learning tool. The language itself is very Pascal-like. It has
numeric and string variables and comparators, lots of interesting
string functions (string within string, string concatenation, string
to numeric and vice versa, etc.), and some very useful time and timing
functions. These are all explained in a docunent called PAL

Re: Wireless transmitter

2007-05-31 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi,

Don't forget the $59 c crane fm transmitter. I have two and
consider them two of my most estute investments. I have a wireless
keyboard, so I can control my computer anywhere in my home or on the
deck. Any radio provides audible feedback, and I have several
stationed around my house. I can read email in bed! I control
xmpcr, winamp playlists, and can sit on the deck with a cup of coffee
and enjoy listening to the new york times. If needed, the c crane
phone number is:
800 522 8863

The transmitter runs on batteries or ac adapter. Batteries last for
a really long time. That means you can take one along with an mp3
player and listen on a car radio! Pretty cool!

Yes check out the 100 milliwat unit if you're looking to transmit just

will need to have someone help you set the frequency. Once that is done
  however you should be set.

  Hi
Can anyone suggest a good quality robust wireless transmitter?
I bought 2 small fairly inexpensive wireless transmitters recently (now
legal in UK) to 1. tTake sound from my computer's soundcard and broadcast
this into the fm band of my new Sony DVD player 5.1 system.
  2. To broadcast Sky from the box throughout my house for each VHF radio
  to
  pick up.
(Both transmitters are at different buildings) I probably got what I paid
for. Both transmitters do work but sometimes slightly distorted,
  suggesting
not a strong enough range. There is also a fairly strong hum in the
background, I hasten to add which is not in the original.

I'm looking for something which gives good quality, as good as normal
  sound
on VHF. Any suggestions from your own experience?
  Thanks.

computer and love arranging them into lists of favorites. My computer is
in its own room with other office stuff. I would like to be able to
pipe the music on the computer into other parts of the house. I had
heard of wireless speakers, but when I went looking, what I saw was sets
of 3 or 5 speakers, one or more of which had to stay hard-wired to the
computer. This appeared to mean that your base would be in one room and
your treble in another. Can anyone throw any light on this for me, and
also perhaps tell me if I have other options?

Thanks much,

Hi Rich,

From what I've done with it you can pretty much run it straightaway. You
have to use the shift-F10 context menu keystroke a bit but that's really
the
only drawback with it. For those script gurus out there a little
scripting
wouldn't hurt it. I've used it to create data DVD backups and create a
few
cd's and that's really the only thing that I find a little fussy.

Hi, this is Steve. I have a bit rate question.
If I take a WAV file and convert it to a MP3 file, if I then later choose to

the already once compressed file, even though it is at a higher bit rate?
My thinking is that an already compressed file, compressed further is using
the first MP3 file as it's source.
Hope this makes since. Am I correct or not?

Hi,

Has anyone had the problem of never finding cddb info on
the cd put into your drive using the newest versions of e z cd
extractor? I used to use the program all the time, but with the last
few upgrades, I've not been able to get the cddb info. I have to use

Re: Thanks, and a repeat question!

2007-01-29 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi Amy,

There are a couple of ways to create a playlist that I've
found. You can use the windows power toys utility, sendto.exe, or,
perhaps easier, go to each file you want to include in your playlist,
press the applications key on it, arrow down to enqueue in winamp,
and press enter. Once you have done this for the first file, winamp
will open to the playlist editor. When you have done this for all of
your songs, alt tab back to the winamp program and press control s to
save your list. You'll be prompted for a name and there you go!

Hope this helps!

Rusty

Hi gang,

Thanks to all who answered my question about getting audio files off the
computer. However, I didn't get an answer to my other question. So, again,
I ask: How do you create a playlist in Winamp. and save it, so you don't
have to go to all the trouble of telling it to play a particular directory?
Thanks.

r09 manual and card format

2007-01-25 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi Guys and gals,

I'm waiting with baited breath for my doorbell to ring as
I'm expecting delivery of my ederol r09 recorder this morning. I
listened to all I could find and have two questions. I do not have a
card reader so formatting the card via that method, as I heard on one
of the podcasts, is, for now, at least, out of the question. Can I
put the card in the machine and format it from my computer?

Secondly, is there a manual in text or pdf available? If so, where?

Thanks in advance.

Subject: Goldwave, Realtec AC97 and the Audigy NX 2

Hello to all from a new list member.

I've joined this list specifically to get help with a recording problem
  I'm
having at the moment. Its probably easier if I just lay it all out for
  you
here and see how we get on!

I wanted to record some films etc from my hard drive recorder onto the PC
and I installed Goldwave 5.1 to help me achieve this.

However, even after reading manuals and getting help from other sources,
each and every attempt to record something failed miserably. The playback
always sounded as though my levels were far to high, leaving me with a
heavily distorted recording. I tried every possible combination of
  settings
and levels, but each and every attempt resulted in the same distortion.

I started asking around to see if anyone could help, and the general
  feeling
was that the Realtec AC97 Audio I was using as part of my PC set-up may
  have
been the weak link. So, taking more advice on board, I've now bought
  myself
an external soundcard, the Creative Audigy NX2, in the hope that this
  will
make things right. The NX 2 arrived today, and I now find myself with
  more
questions than answers! It'll be Sunday before I can get hold of sighted
assistance and then I remembered about PC-Audio!

So, my first question is, is it possible to run the NX2 and the Realtec
  AC97
side-by-side? Or do I need to disable the AC97 while using the NX2 and
  vice
  versa.

Ideally, I'm hoping the NX2 will work with Goldwave 5.1 and enable me to
make my recordings. But I've noticed that after connecting it up tonight I
lost my existing PC audio. Everything went silent, no JAWS no nothing,
  until
  I disconnected the NX2 again.

What I'm really hoping to find on this list is someone who's already
successfully using Goldwave 5.1 with an external Audigy soundcard to make
recordings through the line-in facility on the card. This way I can
  obtain
some exact settings etc to help me get started with this whole PC audio
  recording thing!

Sorry if I haven't made myself at all clear about what I'm trying to do
here, and the problems I've run into whilst trying to do it, but if
  anyone
can offer any kind of help and advice, that would be very much
  appreciated.

  Regards.

Re: saving streaming audio

Another fine tool for this purpose is replay a v, which, can
capture streams without using the sound card at all, thus allowing
you to keep working slash playing without your screen reader getting
into the streams. Hth,

Wrong tool, wrong concept. M3U is a playlist, not a stream. You want
a program like Total Recorder from High Criteria. Comes in two
versions. Current release is 6.0, very accessible, very good program.
I use it all the time to capture stuff from BBC7 to play back after
it's gone from their weekly schedule.

Should I stay with 7 or venture into 8? I am mostly worried about my
program list, since it has 85 entries. Also it seemed much more
difficulto record the programs with it. By the way, has anybody else
noticed that sometimes you get mp3.xxx files? Any suggestions or
recommendations? Thanks. Kurt

Hi all!
I'm curious about total recorder, but I have some concerns. It's my
understanding that it installs drivers which may or may not interfere with
the performance of Jaws. I've also been told that these drivers can be
disabled, and was wondering if there was a way to insure the stability of
jaws while still electing to use the drivers provided by total recorder. I
know a lot of people who swear by this program, and was wondering whether or
not any of you think that it measures up to other programs like goldwave,
sound forge, and audacity. Thanks!

These units are hard to find but there are a few stores that have them.

JUdy! As was stated, it's a piece of equipment, no software and no
noise reduction per say. And I can't comment on it's accessibility except
that I have sold some other units in this series to blind people with no
complaints.

Re: RFBD CD portable Players and software

2006-11-07 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi,

Not to mention that it can take braille notes and record voice memos.

Rusty
At 11:17 AM 11/5/2006, Kelly Pierce spake thusly:-
A couple of weeks ago, I spoke to the director of the RFB studio here in
Chicago about DAISY players. The studio has an extensive outreach effort
with folks going to schools and meeting with borrowers throughout the
Chicago area and Midwest. The Telex Scholar has its buttons arranged in a
circular manner. Many blind end users I am told do not like it and find it
troublesome to use. The buttons are not easily identified tactily and they
have multiple functions. Most blind users prefer units, based on extensive
interviews with teachers and print-impaired end users, that have a
telephone-style keypad rather than one arranged in a circle.

For what it is worth, I considered my options this past month in choosing
one of these units. My CD/Mp3 player no longer played MP3's and appeared on
its last legs. I had the unit just about 18 months, listening to it about
15 hours a week. I agonized over the issue because I recognized that the CD
at this point is a transitional technology. Its days are numbered and I
don't want to be holding the bag. Also, CD players are mechanical devices
and may not be as durable as solid state devices with no moving parts. I
bristled over the prospect of chucking a pricy DAISY player every 18 months.

I ended up choosing the Bookport. To my knowledge it is the only solid
state device that can play the DAISY CD books from RFB. I believe the
Bookport will have a longer lifespan than a CD player with none of the
problems of fingerprints or scratches that plague the use of CD's. Further,
the Bookport represents a total and complete portable media access device.
In addition to playing DAISY books, it plays MP3 files and reds text files
with a built in speech synthesizer.

Wile the Bookport sports a higher price tag than most of the portable DAISY
CD players, the added durability and functionality turn the price into a
extremely fair value.

Sound forge 8, what did i do?

2006-10-13 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi guys and gals,

I've been using sound forge with window-eyes since version
4.5 of sf. I could always route my mouse cursor to the bottom of the
screen. Then doing one line up, I would hear the status line, sample
rate, length, bit rate, stereo or mono, etc. One more line up would
read me the two numbers of the meters, I.e. -3 -3 or whatever. Okay,
here's my problem. I must have inadvertently hit a wrong key
somewhere along the line, recently, because, instead of the two
numbers I used to get in the second line up, it now just says cpu
cpu. Does anyone have any idea of what I might have done and how,
short of re installing sf, I can change it back to what it used to
be? Any help would sure be appreciated.

editing midi files?

2006-05-16 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi Folks,

I have some dot mid files on my system, beatles songs,
standards, etc, and I'd like to use parts of some of these as ringing
tones on my cell phone. How can I get rid of space, i.e. silence, at
the beginning of I want to hold your hand.mid, or how could I take
the first line of 'good day sunshine.mid and use just that? I don't
think this is a job for sound forge or gold wave, so, is there a
program that allows this kind of editing?

Any help greatly, as always, appreciated.

acquire
an Iriver H300 series unit. The newer units are more focused on their
ability to display video now. You should be able to pick up an Iriver

  Hello list.
I know that this subject is on and off from this list for some time
now. I am on the market for a hard disk based player myself and I have

some questions. Iriver has discontinued the h340 and is now very hard
to find. Since rockbox only works for out of date players at this
point, I will buy something that is more current and I will have to
put up with the difficulties we all have when accessing something with

out speech, remembering menus, count key strokes etc. Is the iriver
h10 20 gb version reasonably usable? There is a touchpad as I
understand from the description. Can we use that thing? Can we go up
and down the menus or file folders accurately?
Do we need special software to transfer files or it is as with the
h340
  accessible with windows explorer?
I am also thinking about ipod 60 gb version. I think however that this
unit does not have any line in or fm tuner. Is the ipod accessible as
above? It appears that it has a click weel. Can you locate files if
you
know where they are? Can you transfer files back and forth easily?
Do you have to edit mp3 tags for all this to make sence?
Any help is very much appreciated.

Hi,

I'd just open the mp3 in sound forge. Play it to the point
where you want to start your clip, hit the enter key to pause, then
the letter i and then enter again until you get to the end of the
clip. Press enter to pause again, press the letter o and now your
segment is the area between the i and the o. Press control c to copy
that portion to the clip board. Then press control n and enter to
open a new file. Press control v to paste uyour segment into the new
file and then save a and name it. That's it!

Re: FM Transmitters`

2006-02-23 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi,

It's fantastic. I've got a little radio by my couch, and
also by my bed, and I can do anything on my computer from either
place. In my living room, I just hit mute on the remote for the main
surround sound bose sterio, create my playlist with only the little
radio on, press play in winamp, hit the mute, and there you
go. Marginally received fm npr stations which can be tuned in on the
web, now are no longer marginal but come blasting in, crystal
clear. My brother has a radio show up in Bangor, Maine, on comunity
radio, which streams its programming, so I can listen to his show
from here in Massachusetts, or down in Tampa, or in San
antonio. Well you get the picture!

On cold blustery days when staying in bed for a couple of
extra hours is warranted, I read my email from bed, with a hot cup of
coffee by my side on the night stand!

And, when xmpcr is in the mix, the remote keyboard serves as
a super remote control. I can be out on my deck on a sunny
afternoon, portable keyboard at hand, Bose wave purring away and
change the xm radio stations.

this, we don't have to be tethered to our computers any more. Nowadays,
 we

However, even when the unit has been modified to broadcast at maximum

Hi,

From what you say, you did not rip the file. You just copied the
index file pointing to the audio files on the cd to your folder. To
play the songs in winamp, Just highlight the files and press the
applications key, thus bringing up a context menu. Play in winamp
should appear in this menu. Just press enter on that option and your
music should be played. Hope this helps.

Re: FM Transmitters`

Hi,

C Crane will cost around seventy dollars, delivered. All
you do is plug it in, or put a battery, which will last for months,
and then plug it in to your speaker output jack. I've got mine
plugged into one branch of a splitting cable, with the powered
speakers in the other branch. You may or may not need to fiddle with
the screw adjustment, depending on how it comes in straight out of
the box. I did it to mine and I can listen to fm radio out on my
deck, but not beyond my driveway.

Hi,

I'm not Chris, but get cdex. Its free, but by no means the
only ripping option. I personally prefer ez cd extractor at:
www.poikosoft.com
which can rip cd's, convert files from one audio format to another,
and burn audio cd's.

Which ever ripping program you ultimately choose, make sure
it uses one of the cd identification databases out there, so that you
have real titles to your ripped songs and not generic names like
track01, track02 et cetera!

Hi,

There is a square label in the back of the unit. This can
be peeled carefully off, thus revealing three screw holes. The one
closest to the edge of the machine is the one you want. With a small
screw driver, turn this clockwise all the way. Stick the label back
on and you're set. Not sure to what level this boosts the signal. I
still cannot pick up the signal over a hundred feet or so, but its
clearly better.

Normally on this list we chat about audio as it relates to music and
production but I'd like to chat about a new game that has recently come
  out
and that's taking the blind gaming community by storm. The game is a
  Racing
game and it's called Top Speed2. The idea is you have your keyboard or a
stearing wheel and you race around tracks. The sound of the cars is most
Realistic and there are plenty of ad on cars and tracks. You also can
either host a server for 7 of your friends to play on or log in to a
  server
that's being hosted. If your in to sports you will most deffinately enjoy
this one. You'll play this game for hours. Now the cost you ask? Well the
fine developers in the Netherlands who wrote this game have decided to
  give
it away completely free of charge. You can go to:

  http://playinginthedark.net
and download the game and all the extra tracks and ad ons. Also you can
learn how to design your own racing cars and tracks and a few blind people
have already done this. Try this freeware game. I think you'll be most
  impressed.

Re: Winamp security problem

I still use winamp for all of my music and audio files.

Can't be beat!

Winamp used to be the world's most popular MP3 player and is still

popular, but as Windows Media Player has gotten better, some users have
migrated over, said Thomas Kristensen, Secunia's chief technology officer,
As a blind user I found Windows Media Player awkward so a long time ago I
decided to use Winamp. Do others find it so still?
Are blind users migrating to WMP as the article suggests.

Re: Re[4]: Reading V U Meters In Total Recorder

2006-01-30 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi,

When you install total recorder, you are given the choice to
install its software driver. I chose no, or uncheck the box so it
isn't installed and have no conflicts whatever. When I let the
driver install, winamp will no longer play songs with an invalid
sound driver message. Without the software driver installed, chose
the soundboard option while setting up your recordings and total
recorder is a gem to use.

Rusty

Gentlemen:

Don't know anything about the meters but wonder if you guys can help with
the reason I rejected Total Recorder?

I am a subscriber to Freedombox and they for one acknowledge a conflict with
Total Recorder and I experienced other conflicts yet mention was made of you
using Sounge Forge without a hitch.

As I understand it, Total recorder takes over the sound card and doesn't
play nicely with other sound programs. Did you find a way to prevent this?

My latest challenge is figuring out how I can use Windows Media PLayer 10
but finding it difficult to burn although I don't have a problem with
(ripping). Wonder if either of you have attempted this program?

Will appreciate any comments you care to make.

On Saturday, January 28, 2006, 1:10:54 PM, you bellowed the following:
I think that one can do that in Gold Wave; however, I have not found a
way to read the V U meter in Gold Wave.

Sure, I use sound forge to do this, but sometimes, particularly when I'm
doing something where I don't want a full editor loaded up, I just want
something where I can pull up a small app and take a quick look at a meter
  without doing much else.

lots of times, on ebay, you buy new, in the original factory sealed box.

are sold out too. There is Ebay but I don't want to buy used, long
distance.

I wonder how accessible the H10 series of players is.

folder holding the Mp3 tracks, then copy and paste them into this window
but it wont work this way,so how do I load this window with thenew

same way as I did when I started the first session in the ,quote new
window where I could rename the label and check the file size etc.

 Hi Alan,

When you start Nero Burning Rom, the multisession choice you last used will
be the one selected. It is not possible to choose all of them, as they are
not checked but are radio buttons and can be selected with the up and down
arrow keys. When you select one, the previous one is deselected.
 To continue
with a multisession disc, just arrow to that choice and then press Enter.
You will then move on to the window where you choose the files you wish to
 add to the disc.

 Good luck.

data base stopped working or some such thing I would have to change
programs. Until then I am staying. You don't have to have the latest thing

Subject: best CD burning program for making CD copies

I am going to be buying Premier CD creator so I can be sure of copying
files and folders for my OTR. Is there a program which is easy to use to
completely copy commercial CDs? I have gotten a nero 6 but only made one
copy by accident of a disk. I need to be able to copy CDs and maybe even
DVDs, although the DVDs are data disks and nothing more, with OTR or
books on them. Does anybody have any suggestions? I want a burning
program that will copy commercial CDs that I can use as easily as I used
to use Nero 5.5. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Kurt

Re: using mute in sf7

Hi,

Mark the beginning or the selection you'd like to mute with
the left bracket of the letter i and the end with the right bracket
or the letter o. Once that section is selected, the mute should work
on only that portion of the file.

Rusty

Hi list, can someone help me with this. i am using soundforge 7, and i have
made a recording in sterio, and want to erase a bit at the beginning. sf7
advises me, that i can't do this, but must use the mute. i found mute, but
when i try to use it, all i manage to do, is to mute everything. any help
would be appreciated. brian.
