It is obviously time to have Pentax do it. Avoid having whoever do it. Paul On Jan 18, 2007, at 12:43 AM, Russell Kerstetter wrote: Sorry to bring this thread up again, but... But if I hold my light at an angle, the shadow from the specks fall far enough from the speck to indicate that ths specks are actually on the filter. Even so... are there any known issues with these ccd's or filters where they may have come this way from pentax? I really don't think this is the case, because I have not had these showing in my pictures until fairly recently, I just ought to ask. Also, is there a more aggressive cleaning method I could try (besides scotch tape) or is it time to suck it up and pay the big bucks to have pentas or whoever do it? Thanks again for the help. Site for comprehensive CF/SD memory tests?
Rant I'm finding the Internet and it's search engines increasingly frustrating. The local Staples has the discontinued Sandisk Yellow gamers 1GB SD cards in stock at a very reasonable price. I've spent several hours trying to find a comparison test, or even just a read/write specification, to see if these cards are really any different from the standard 1GB Sandisk cards, (except for the color of the case that is). Yes I know, as I said, the price is very attractive but I have plenty of SD storage at this time. So even if they're cheap I'm not interested unless they're a little better than bottom of the barrel. But all I can find is retailers with the usual puff descriptions, no hard information. The Internet used to be good for independent pages with information, sometimes good sometimes bad posted by everyone and his brother about any subject, and the search engines, especially Google would find them and make them available. Now all you get is page after page of huxters, some with multiple entries all pointing to the same _damned_ useless pages, (as opposed to just useless pages). Distortion ... well controlled and easily correctible in PS Handling... Lovely Cons: Chromatic Aberration: Sometimes it can be annoying but so far I have not had cases of CA that could not be corrected in ACR. The thing to keep in mind is to watch out for it. I recently had a shot that required a lot of cloning to remove a tangle of electrial cables after about 3 hours of cloning out I realised I had forgotten to remove the CA... In colour the CA was barely noticable but when I converted the shot to monochrome it really stood out so it took more time to clone out the CA.. Yes I know you can fix it in PS evern after ACR but somehow it does not do as good a job... Hello! (introduction)
Hello, I've been lurking on the list for a week or two and thought it was about time I introduce myself. (I actually sent a message once already, but it doesn't look like it made it. So forgive me if you get this message twice) My name is Mike Dausin and I am a computer security engineer from the Austin Texas area. I can't quite remember what got me into photography but I can say this is by far the most fun/interesting/challenging hobby I've have (also the most expensive, but who's counting?) I mostly take landscape shots, which gives me a great excuse to go travel. But if I'm not on the road I try to take abstract photos in my house. I've flirted with owning a Pentax for several years, but I've only just now taken the plunge (with a K10.) This is a superb camera. But right now I'm more surprised at the size of the Pentax Community. I think I've seen 2,000 e-mails on this list in just over a week! It's good to know that I'm not the only one out there that isn't shooting CanoNikon. In any case, I look forward to talking with you all soon! FS - Metal lens hood - Genuine Pentax (Asahi Optical CO.)
For Sale - AOC - original metal lens hood, 49mm threads, marked as used on Takumar 105mm 2.8 100mm 4.0. To quote a frequent PDML poster - This is an excellent hood for the 50mm lenses on film and digi as well as a very good choice for the 77mm Ltd, which suffers from a short built in hood. Has signs of usage - a few superficial scratches - otherwise in very good to new condition. $12.00 USD. Buyer pays shipping. Pentax price hike?
DCWatch Longtime test #6 focuses on accessories such as extension tubes and other gizmos that makes strange things to lenses. http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/longterm/2007/01/19/5391.html It looks as if Pentax is planning to increase the price on these items that are expensive to make and keep in stock, probably as they don't sell in significant numbers. Judging from the table, many items will double in price. The Japanese press announcement is dated 11507 so I guess it will be a few days until we see something similar in English. Re: finally put my hands on K10D... part III
Boris, The FAJ 18-35 sample I have is very sharp on wide end, even reasonably sharp fully open. You may have a bad sample. If you wish I can send you some full size JPEGS from my *istD shot with this lens. yes please, that would be very useful as I said I have nothing to compare my shots with. You can use this address but please keep the attachment size within reasonable limits. But this is not just about sharpness - while images produced by fixed 50s are refined (smooth and sharp at the same time), images from zoom are rough - yes, they may be apparently sharp, but IMHO this is not real sharpness (just higher contrast). Also about all possible aberrations are present - from color fringing through geometric distortions to softening towards the edges. As you said, I may have a bad sample but even if my sample is fine it's probably unfair to compare such basic zoom with specimens of some of the best glass available regardless of price. Too bad I've started with the latter... BTW I've tried to develop these pictures using ACR in PSCS2 and with contrast set to the minimum they now look much better to me. Nobel Prize to the inventors of the RAW image processing! :-) Having said that of course I cannot dispute the fact that 50 mm lenses give better image quality. indeed. Re: Disassembling a F135/2.8
Succes! I managed to clean this little gem and now it's fungus free. Ordered a spanner wrench through ebay and got some Schroder PH0, PH00 and PH000 screwdrivers. Nobody in Europe sells JIS screwdrivers and my Schroder screwdriver set fits perfectly. The lens was completely disassembled and I learned I didn't need a spanner wrench at all. All the glass surfaces are accessible when disassembling the front part. Working on the K mount with all the tiny parts was a nightmare. The weather over here in the UK has been absolutely terrible for weeks now, so the other day I decided to do some lens testing indoors, also giving me chance to familiarise myself with the workings of ACR. Re: OT - Web Security Question
Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions. My webhost confirmed that it was a 'brute force' attack that got the password. They said that they have software in place to detect that with the main logins, but are in the process of installing it for FTP. They didn't answer my question about SFTP so I'll ask again. Checking the logs I found that I was lucky enough to stumble onto the intrusion just a few hours after it happened - so at least that worked out. Meanwhile - I'm learning more about .htaccess commands... - MCC -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mark Cassino Photography Kalamazoo, Michigan www.markcassino.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net

Re: K10D pre-release firmware 1.10 now wireless flash
I downloaded the archive and the files look semi-legit. There is a release date of January 23 in one of the documents. I do not think waiting a few days for the official release is going to kill me so I am going to hold off. Re: Hello! (introduction)
Quoting Mike Dausin (PDML) [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Hello, I've been lurking on the list for a week or two and thought it was about time I introduce myself. You can do both, i do:-) In any case, I look forward to talking with you all soon! Welcome to the list.
